[Bug 362345] [NEW] firefox-3.5 apt:// urls not working out of the box
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 firefox-3.0 in ubuntu ships with an apt://packagename URL handler setup by default. This will call /usr/bin/apturl to bring up a popup giving the user the option to install the given package from their ubuntu repositories. e.g., apt://vim-full, see http://is.gd/sLi3 for a blog post about the ubuntu wiki supporting these URLs however, it seems the firefox-3.5 shipped with Ubuntu doesn't include this handler definition by default, these are the values found in about:config for firefox-3.0: network.protocol-handler.app.apt;/usr/bin/apturl network.protocol-handler.app.apt+http;/usr/bin/apturl network.protocol-handler.warn-external.apt;false network.protocol-handler.warn-external.apt+http;false please add these to the firefox-3.5 profile ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 Package: firefox-3.5 3.5~b4~hg20090330r24021+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: firefox-3.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686 ** Affects: firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- firefox-3.5 apt:// urls not working out of the box https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362345 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 351708] Re: Gwibber can't add an account
I believe the problem here for KDE is that either a) KDE is simply not adding a new startup entry for the gnome keyring daemon or b) Gwibber's pkg dependencies did/do not include the gnome-keyring-daemon package so check if the pkg is installed via `dpkg -l gnome-keyring-daemon` (and install it if it isn't already) then add a startup application to your session to invoke `gnome-keyring- daemon --start` logout and login and see if Gwibber starts please report success/failure of this workaround -- Unable to add accounts using Gwibber in fresh Kubuntu Jaunty installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 356250] [NEW] [jaunty] [wishlist] [patch] Support for Sony PlayTV USB vendor/product ids
Public bug reported: This Sony PlayTV, vendor id 0x1415, product id 0x0003, is based around the DiBcom STK7070PD reference design and has a STK7070PD frontend and two DIB7070p tuners [1]. It is therefore identical to many devices already supported by /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/kernel/drivers/media/dvb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb- dib0700.ko. It is supported in v4l-dvb since changeset 10824 [2] when the necessary vendor and product ids were added. Whilst this change has not yet been accepted into the main kernel tree, it is a trivial patch that I have tested and found to be working well in 2.6.28. I have backported the changes from the v4l-dvb mercurial tree and generated a patch against linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic to simply add the vendor and product ids for the device (attached to this bug). Please consider this patch for inclusion in jaunty's kernel package. [Bug 354447] [NEW] gnome-terminal zoom-in keybinding referenced in menus is not intuitive in relation to the actual keypresses needed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal In gnome-terminal the 'View --> Zoom In' menu item lists the key binding of "Ctrl++" in the same way as Mozilla Firefox does. However, on for example a pc105 keyboard (en_GB variant), you technically need to either use 'Shift+Ctrl+=' or 'Ctrl+KPLUS' (the numpad +) to cause it to zoom in. So the referenced keybinding can be slightly confusing to the novice user. Mozilla Firefox resolves this by also binding 'Ctrl+=' to the same function so users can easily discover the feature without much thought. As such, most users have a learned response of holding Ctrl and hitting the - and = keys to zoom in and out. Gnome Terminal should probably do the same to make it easier to discover the feature. This effects both Ubuntu jaunty and Ubuntu intrepid. It has not been tested under hardy. [Bug 353968] [NEW] USB DVB-T devices unusable on EPIA-M system under Jaunty unless cpufreq scaling (longhaul?) disabled
Public bug reported: I am using an EPIA-M mini-itx box as a vdr system using a DVB-T tuner over USB. Both live TV and recordings are unstable with clicking and popping sound as well as a breaking up picture unless cpufreq scaling is disabled by running the following script: {{{ #!/bin/sh MAX_FREQ=`cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq` echo $MAX_FREQ > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed echo $MAX_FREQ > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq echo $MAX_FREQ > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq }}} This effectively disables any cpufreq (longhaul?) changes being made during operation. Though it is not ideal as there is obviously a large amount of time when the system can remain idle on low-cpu to save voltage/energy. Whilst playing back TV, the current CPU speed is identified as being the maximum, but there is obviously some polling going on underneath the covers that is causing problems. Let me know if you need any further info. Re: [Bug 292287] Re: wpa doesn't work on x31 thinkpad in 8.10
At the time I was using a default ubuntu 8.10 installation with the nmapplet utility that comes out of the box. I subsequently had a look into this, and whiile I can no longer remember the exact details, I believe I discovered that the wireless chipset that came with the Thinkpad X31 had only very basic support in Linux. I subsequently upgraded the internal Mini PCI card with a cheap replacement that I well supported under Linux, and have had no problems since. For anyone else that wishes to do this, it's worth noting that out of the box, Thinkpads are somewhat crippled, and don't let you plug in unauthorized cards. I had to use a program called no1802 to flick a bios setting which disables this check. I used a small Linux C program I found. This does not happen if gdm is configured to require a password, or if i log out from the initial (automatic) session, and then log back in using my password. [Bug 213818] Re: thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04
So far: It took me a while to get Windows running properly, hadn't booted into it for a couple of months now. Using the Thinkvantage tools I'm at least able to throttle my CPUs down, resulting in drastically lower temperatures. I'm not sure how much this was affected by my blowing through the fan to get some dust out beforehand, though. Sensor 1: 47C Sensor 2: 62C CPU0 & CPU1: 47C It was good to hear the fans spinning up for a change, too. On the other hand, the only acpi application I could find right now doesn't see any fan information, which boggles me a bit - Ubuntu didn't have a working custom DSDT file, yet did at least get fan information though it couldn't set it. Will test with some LiveCD tomorrow. -- thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213818] Re: thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04
Similar issue here, not quite sure whether it's the same. Running 8.04 on a Thinkpad t60p (Intel Core2Duo proc), my fan speed for some reason will not go above 3500RPM while set to "auto". I haven't had a shutdown yet, but I've been unable to boot once. Temperature mostly hangs on 62C, which is simply too darn high for an idling laptop on AC. Funny bit is that I'm for some reason unable to manually set fan speed, even though I turned the necessary module option (thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1) - I get a Permission Denied, whether I try as root or as a plain user. This annoys the hell out of me, frankly. I'll be testing with some LiveCDs and Windows now and report my findings. So far the internet seems to suggest that SMP + ACPI support has been broken ever since 6.06. -- thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...
okay, so this is my understanding of how things should work: 1. on a local network without DHCP, resolv.conf is configured manually by the user 2. on a local network with DHCP, resolv.conf is set once at connection time, but then may be updated each time the DHCP lease is renewed 3. on a remote network (via PPP or VPN), resolv.conf contains the merge of local and remote settings, and is set once at connection time, but then may be upated each time either of the leases are renewed -- both local and remote -- 3b. if the remote network does not provide DNS information then resolv.conf should be left unchanged 4. when the remote network connection is brought down, resolv.conf must be restored to either its state before the conntection was established, or -- if the local lease was renewed during this period -- to its latest lease value one way for this to happen would be for NM to take a copy of resolv.conf at the point it establishes the connection, and then have it listen to resolv.conf for update notifications. if resolv.conf is changed by some other party (e.g. dhcpclient or dhcpd) then it can update the copy of the file that it will use to restore when the connection ends, and can also recompute the local/remote merge. @alan ezust: perhaps other people can tell you how it is done for the time-being, but I happen to know that what you want is coming in a nice gui form in the yet to be released, NetworkManager 0.7. -- resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 173260] Re: logprof doesn't handle marks (in any usefull way)
Hi. This is the intended behavior of logprof/genprof (perhaps as you suggest there could be better intended behavior :) The way its used is that genprof marks the log with a random string to denote the log section it should be looking at when you "Scan For Events" while generating a new profile. So the tools know to ignore everything before the mark. Its possible that logprof could be modified so that it records the last entry processed (the date or some unique id from the log entry - or even marks the log again and saves the mark). Logprof should not be marking the messages file. genprof does when you start a profile development run - for this you should see something like " GenProf: 16ab5bf0d80d869e30edcbd2be0f9844". So then running "logprof -m 16ab5bf0d80d869e30edcbd2be0f9844" Would only look at messages after that mark. -- logprof doesn't handle marks (in any usefull way) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 102097] Re: Auto mount does not work for USB drive
I can confirm multiple Gutsy (network upgraded from Fiesty) machines have problems with multiple usb sticks and card readers, that worked under Fiesty without issue. A simple, but not user friendly solution is: sudo mount -t vfat /dev/{sdb1 or such like} /media/{dir_of_choice} Typical error seems to say "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so" Have tried removing (then adding back in) the "usefree" option in gconf- editor. Seems that auto mounting in Gutsy(Fiesty as well ?) has gone completely belly up! -- Auto mount does not work for USB drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 80900] Re: problems resolving fully qualified domain names on Kubuntu feisty
Hi, The problem is that on a large network avahi plays a large role in finding shares and printers. It makes this a lot more difficult to shut it down. [Bug 125938] Re: After upgrade to latest version flash is not workning in firefox
Same here. The problem seems to be that a previous version of the plugin was still in cache (presumably from 9.0.31), and the installer decided to use that instead of downloading the current version: Unpacking replacement flashplugin-nonfree ... Setting up flashplugin-nonfree (9.0.48.0.0ubuntu1~7.04.0) ... Installing from local file /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz md5sum mismatch install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz The Flash plugin is NOT installed. Removing /var/cache/flashplugin- nonfree/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz and reinstalling flashplugin-nonfree fixed this for me. [Bug 114473] Re: Feisty: netgear wg111t causes ubuntu to crash
I have exactly the same issues with Feisty freezing/crashing with the same combination of Netgear WG111T wireless USB dongle and ndiswrapper. No matter what I do the result is always a total system crash a few seconds after the USB dongle is inserted. Some more info for you... 'dpkg -l ndiswrapper-common' for me gives "1.38-lubuntul" I am using the WG111T v1.3 drivers from NetGear. The device ID is 1385:4251. 'ndiswrapper -l' reports that the netwg111t driver is installed. I do a 'depmod -a' followed by 'modprobe ndiswrapper', the system then freezes almost immediately after I connect the USB dongle. I have attempted to collect syslog entries but they are not being saved. I have managed to take a screen-shot however and can email it if required. -- Feisty: netgear wg111t causes ubuntu to crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114473 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
