[Bug 1938013] Re: 4.15.0-151 is freezing various CPUs

2021-08-04 Thread Dominique Pellé
I'm also affected by this bug:
- 4.15.0-151-generic freezes
- 4.15.0-147-generic does not freeze (previous available kernel in grub)

My CPU:  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700T CPU @ 2.90GHz

The freeze happens generally at the login screenshot (sometimes before,
sometimes after, but shortly after booting in any cases).

I am forced to reboot my computer and select the older kernel in grub to
properly boot.
In /var/log/kern.log I see Oops:

[Bug 1686084] Re: x11vnc terminates with **stack smashing detected** error

2019-03-18 Thread Dominique Pellé
I upgraded to Ubuntu-18.04.2 (up-to-date as of 2019/03/18) and keep stumbling
on this crash.
It's a severe issues as x11vnc is almost unusable (crashes every few minutes).

Can the fix be backported to Ubuntu-18.04 LTS?

The bug is marked as importance "high". What else is needed to get this
fix in Ubuntu-18.04 LTS?

Here is the version number on Ubuntu-18.04.2:

  $ x11vnc --version
  x11vnc: 0.9.13 lastmod: 2011-08-10

Strange, not modified since 2011?!

[Bug 195264] Re: vim.gnome crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2012-11-22 Thread Dominique Pellé
Thomas Hotz wrote:

 Is this still an issue for you?

As I wrote earlier, this issue has been fixed upstream on Oct 30 2007 in
this version of Vim:

7.1.147 (after 7.1.127) freeing memory twice completing user name

That's about about 5 years ago now.
I don't think any supported version of Ubuntu uses such an old version of Vim
nowadays.
Please close this issue.

[Bug 114375] Re: [needs-packaging] [Upstream] LanguageTool, a grammar checker for LibreOffice

2012-08-08 Thread Dominique Pellé
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 980991 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980991

This bug is marked as duplicate of bug #980991 but they are not
duplicates:

Bug #980991 is about LightProof in LibreOffice
Bug #114375 is about packaging LanguageTool grammar checker

LanguageTool and LightProof are two completely different grammar checkers.
LanguageTool supports far more languages and detect more errors.
LanguageTool can also be used standalone without LibreOffice.
LanguageTool is written in Java. LightProof is written in Python.

[Bug 114375] Re: [needs-packaging] [Upstream] LanguageTool, a grammar checker for LibreOffice

2012-05-11 Thread Dominique Pellé
 However, the current upstream LO is shipped with Lightproof, not
LanguageTool.

Yes, but LanguageTool is more advanced than LightProof. LanguageTool supports
far more languages.
So creating an Ubuntu package for LanguageTool would be good.

OpenSuse packages LanguageTool:

[Bug 945081] [NEW] Firefox always crashes at a given URL, plugin IcedTea6 1.9.13 seems to be the reason

2012-03-02 Thread Dominique Pellé
Public bug reported:

I can reproduce a crash 100% of the times with Firefox-10.0.2 on
Ubuntu-10.4.4 LTS when going to this URL with Firefox-10.0.2:

http://www.dimenticatoio.it/index.php?title=Videotel

If I disable all plugins in Firefox, then it no longer crash.

If I only enable the plugin IcedTea NPR Web Browser Plugin (using
IcedTea6 1.9.13 (6b20-19.13-0ubuntu1~10.04.1))  then it crashes.

I had opened a bug in Firefox bug database before realizing than the plugin was
the reason. See:

[Bug 620620] Re: shell redirection and pipe create junk character in front of file name

2010-08-20 Thread Dominique Pellé
I found that the sequence of characters \302\240 (octal) which appears
in the file name is an unbreakable-space (UTF-8 hex sequence: 0xC2
0xA0).

Now I still don't know why shell command echo  abc creates a file
name \302\240abc.

[Bug 620620] Re: shell redirection and pipe create junk character in front of file name

2010-08-20 Thread Dominique Pellé
From main menu, I went into System-Preferences-Keyboard (Layouts tab,
click Reset to Defaults) and now everything appears to be working
fine. So it was my keyboard which inserted non breaking spaces when I
pressed spaces! I don't know why it was set up like that but at least
it is solved now.

[Bug 620620] [NEW] shell redirection and pipe create junk character in front of file name

2010-08-19 Thread Dominique Pellé
Public bug reported:

I notice this issue today (2010/08/19) with Ubuntu-10.04
which really puzzles me.  Ubuntu-10.04 was working fine until now.

Shell redirection creates junk characters in file names.

Here is an example:

$ mkdir /tmp/test
$ cd /tmp/test
$ echo  abc
$ mv abc def
mv: cannot stat `abc': No such file or directory

# Clearly this is wrong, I the 'mv' command should have succeeded.

$ ls
 abc

# notice there there is a blank in front of the file name?!?

$ ls -Q
 abc

Piping command is also broken:

$ ls | cat
 cat: command not found

I though it might be a bug in bash, so I tried with another shell (zsh)
and the problem is identical. So is this a kernel problem or a file system
issue?

Here is more info:

$ uname -a
Linux pel-laptop 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 28 06:07:29 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

$ mount
...
/dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro)

$ locale
LANG=en_US.utf8
LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.utf8
LC_TIME=en_US.utf8
LC_COLLATE=en_US.utf8
LC_MONETARY=en_US.utf8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.utf8
LC_PAPER=en_US.utf8
LC_NAME=en_US.utf8
LC_ADDRESS=en_US.utf8
LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.utf8
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.utf8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.utf8
LC_ALL=

If I change the locale to C, I see this:

$ export LANG=C
$ ls
??abc

And with C locale, piping works so I can pipe into sed to see what
kind of junk char are in the file name:

$ ls | sed l
\302\240abc$
 abc

However, redirecting is still broken with C locale:

$ echo  yyy
$ ls
??abc  ??yyy

I have no idea why those characters \302\240 end up in the file name
when redirecting.

Right now, I pretty much can't do anything in the shell anymore so
bug is severe.

[Bug 607697] [NEW] dia tool crashes when exiting (*** glibc detected *** dia: double free or corruption)

2010-07-20 Thread Dominique Pellé
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dia

The dia tool crashes sometimes (not 100% of the times) when I quit.
I'm using Ubuntu-10.04 (Lucid Lynx) with latest updates.

$ dia --version
Dia version 0.97.1, compiled 22:05:25 Mar 30 2010

I start dia from a shell. I edit something, I save, I quit and then dia
crashes (sometimes).
When crash happens, I see this on the terminal:

$ dia foo.dia
*** glibc detected *** dia: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x09a1dae0 ***

[Bug 83142] Re: crash on XSetIMValues() call when using xim and esperanto locale

2010-07-04 Thread Dominique Pellé
I just installed Ubuntu-10.04 (from scratch) and I see that this bug is
still present.

Two files /usr/share/X11/locale/{locale,compose}.dir contain eo_XX which
should be replaced with eo since both Debian and Ubuntu now use Esperanto
locale eo.utf-8 (they were using eo_XX.utf-8 several releases ago, not sure
when change was made).
However, this change to Esperanto locale was not made in
/usr/share/X11/locale/{locale,compose}.dir

I attach the simple patch for Ubuntu-10.04 to correct it. I verified
that is solves the problem.
