Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: smbfs
Transferring files over an SMB network (mounted with mount -t smbfs ...)
is relatively slow. I get around 2 MB/s whereas over other protocols
(e.g. SSH) I get around 9-10 MB/s. The receivers are various Samba
servers, all of them are performing well (7-9 MB/s) with other clients.
I already tried to tweak my mount cmd (TCP_NODELAY, SO_{SND|RCV}BUF=8192
etc), unfortunately without any success. I noticed while capturing my
network traffic with Wireshark, that - eventhough I specified a buffer
size of 8192 bytes - it seems as if only 512 bytes are transferred at
the same time (see http://www.sweety.li/tmp/wireshark_smb.png for a
screenshot).
I never had this problem with other Linux distributions or lower Ubuntu
versions before, so I guess it is nothing hardware related.
Nevertheless, you may also find my complete dmesg, an output from lspci
and lsmod on the site http://www.sweety.li/tmp
As you can see from the output of my dmesg, something definitely seems
to be wrong
