[Bug 652206] Re: Regression with RaLink RT2860
Kernel 2.6.32-24 continues to operate fine, with or without the backport module from 2.6.35. Kernel 2.6.32-25 appears to operate normally provided it is NOT using the backported module from 2.6.35 - but the malfunction does appear when booted into 2.6.32-25 WITH the backport from 2.6.35. To put it another way as that seems worded complicated, the issue only appears to occur in 2.6.32-25 with linux-backports-modules-compat- wireless-2.6.35-2.6.32-25-generic installed. -- Regression with RaLink RT2860 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652206 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 652206] Re: Regression with RaLink RT2860
I may have made a mistake in which package this bug is coming from. I have the backport packages for modules installed, and one of these (linux-backports-modules-compat-wireless-2.6.35-2.6.32-25-generic) is providing the kernel module I have loaded when I boot this kernel. The 2.6.35-24 kernel, which works, does NOT have a backport package installed (though one is available). I am installing the backport for -24 to see if this introduces the observed behaviour into -24, while removing it from -25 (as this downgrades the backport package). -- Regression with RaLink RT2860 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652206 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 652206] [NEW] Regression with RaLink RT2860
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-25-generic My netbook (EeePC 1000) can no longer reliably connect via WiFi when running the kernel included with linux-image-2.6.32-25-generic. [Bug 227406] Re: run application dialog autocomplete regression
I see the same behavior on a fresh Lucid netbook install. Glipper is not installed. The behavior also seems present in any standard file selection-style dialog (ie, choosing an icon for a launcher entry, hit CTRL-L to switch from the segmented buttons to text path entry, and begin typing the path). Yes, they can. I see no reason why libopenal.so.0 and libopenal.so.1 cannot both exist. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-support-en On installing Ubuntu 9.10 server, it seems that Open Office is installed as language-support-en depends on language-support-writing-en, which in turn depends no OpenOffice, myspell etc. This causes all sorts of unnecessary software (such as various X11 libs, a JRE, some GNOME libraries). Having this sort of software installed by default via the ubuntu-server task seems inappropriate? I am able to cull all of this out without any issue, except that it takes a good amount of time to do so, and introduces an unnecessary step in an install process that could introduce user error (ie, accidentally uninstall ubuntu-standard and a whole lot of other essentials) ** Affects: language-support-en (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Server installs improperly install openoffice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid
I think it's important to note however, that this is NOT an Ubuntu- specific issue. Other distros are making the same migration (and are doing it the same sudden-transition way). While I think that the only reasons to REPLACE one library with the other is few shared files in /etc, I think there is no reason why the old code cannot be patched to look at a different file(s). There's two different ways this can be fixed: 1. Fix it on the distro/packaging side 2. Fix it on the application side I vote that #1 is the proper solution. If libqt was dropped when libqt4 was added, I think there would be a lot more noise... but it's nearly the same problem. We need a graceful transition, not an all-or-nothing approach as is being implemented now. That said, Pre 1.1 openal development has ceased. Applications still being worked on (like x-plane) should notice this and do what they need to do to keep current. I'm not saying anyone is doing this, but lets try to avoid stonewalling. Being inflexible doesn't help anyone. If I could code worth anything, I would have a go at fixing the issue myself. I hope there is someone out there with the skills and motivation. And, taking a probably naive view, I don't see how this is an issue on the application side itself. Unless there are dirty kludges involved, it shouldn't be very hard to find and adjust any calls to a given set of functions. Why is there such resistance to 'porting' the code to the new version? If it really is that hard, then I would say someone is doing something wrong. Take that with some salt, since I likely don't know what I'm talking about. Now... bickering aside. Why is it specifically that the old library cannot be provided side-by-side? It makes no sense to me. Is it the config file conflict in /etc? As mentioned earlier, this (probably) should be something even I can fix. The specification to use that file is stored somewhere. Even MS 'notepad' can do a find/replace. I sincerely hope there's more to this than laziness or stubbornness. -- /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273558 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 319893] [NEW] regenerates initrds for kernels pending removal
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: initramfs-tools While adding/removing kernels through the package management system, update-initrd is called for EACH kernel module package, for both additions and removals. Depending on what is being done, this leads to the initrd's being updated repeatedly. This is especially irritating when removing a kernel - the module packages are uninstalled first, the initrd is regenerated (several times sometimes), and finally the kernel is removed (and the initrd that so much time was spent on... is deleted as well). Is it possible to have this script defer until the end of such processes? Is this even the responsibility of this package? [Bug 258465] [NEW] Unable to configure Administration menu
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 8.04.1, the Administration menu under System is not configurable. I am attempting this process: 1. Right click Applications on the top-left of the screen, next to the Ubuntu logo 2. Choose Edit Menus 3. Navigate to System -> Administration 4. Check/Uncheck anything What happens is, a moment (sometimes as long as a second) after I check/uncheck something on this list, it reverts itself. This for instance means I have to manually run "gksu /usr/sbin/gdmsetup" should I want to enable remote logins, or other such tweaks. Screenshot of the dialog in question is attached. I do not know what package this would be considered, but I don't think this is the fault of the menu editor itself, rather something wrong with the files it is attempting to alter. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Assignee: Draeath (draeath) Status: Invalid -- Unable to configure Administration menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258465 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 251367] [NEW] ubuntustudio-screensaver not satisfied by xscreensaver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntustudio-screensaver Wishlist bug: The metapackage 'ubuntustudio-screensaver' requires 'gnome-screensaver', and replacing 'gnome-screensaver' with another screensaver package results in the whole ubuntustudio- metapackage-tree to be removed. Adding an "OR" qualifier to ubuntustudio-screensaver to allow gnome- screensaver, xscreensaver, or kscreensaver would resolve this issue. All other desktop metapackage trees have this same core flaw, ubuntustudio just happens to be the one that irritated me just now. Users would want to remove gnome-screensaver in favor of xscreensaver (or kscreensaver) due to the lack of configuration that has been marked WONTFIX for several years (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316654) ** Affects: ubuntustudio-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubuntustudio-screensaver not satisfied by xscreensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 250008] [NEW] UI "ghosting" artifacts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: blender I'm using ubuntu-studio 8.04.1, amd64, with an nvidia card / proprietary drivers. I am NOT using compiz. I do not have vertex buffers enabled in my blender config. While using blender, I occasionally see a one or two pixel wide line of garbage along the border between the 3d-view and the top header. This moves with the header if I drag it down to expose the configuration panel. also, while mousing around the panels, occasionally artifacts display around (rarely over, but sometimes) the various buttons/controls I am focusing on - these artifacts look like there is a panel behind the one I'm using. I cannot recreate either of these on-demand, it seems random. It doesn't appear to effect the scene, or interfere with operation of the program - but it is an ugly graphical glitch. It won't cooperate and allow me to catch it with my printscreen key ready ;) Of note: I don't see any other graphical issues with the program, nor do I have any openGL issues on the rest of the system. (note I've tested this all with and without the AddARGBGLXVisuals xorg.conf option, it has no effect) ** Affects: blender (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- UI "ghosting" artifacts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 228429] [NEW] wishlist: handling of duplicate files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dpkg I just ran into a package bug where two packages handled the same file, and this prevented the installation of the second package without passing "--force-overwrite". The file in question was exactly the same between both packages. It would be nice if there was an intelligent way of handling this situation when both files have the same MD5 hash, as in that case it doesn't matter which package's version goes in, as long as the file persists for the life of BOTH packages. Granted, this is still a bug in the package, not the package manager, but some way of handling this besides mucking with dpkg directly or waiting for an update would be neat (or, prompt for overwrite rather than erroring out? ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wishlist: handling of duplicate files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 104319] bad parameters to kdialog
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eclipse For eclipse, package version 3.2.1-0ubuntu1 for i386: the script /usr/bin/eclipse passes incorrect command lines to kdialog on lines 142-144 Specifically, '--warning' does not apply to kdialog, and kdialog does not use the '=' in the argument. Hence, kdialog will exit with error status and script execution will not continue (and it will look like nothing happened - you only see the error if you run 'eclipse' from a terminal) A workaround is, if $DIALOG is kdialog, remove the --warning parameter entirely, set --text to --sorry, and replace the = on the arguments with a space.. I do not know enough BASH scripting to add ain if/else check to see if $DIALOG is set to /usr/bin/kdialog, but a simple if/else stanza should do the trick. Example: else $DIALOG \ --title "Integrated browser support not working" \ --sorry "This Eclipse build doesn't have support for the integrated browser."
