[Bug 577433] Re: Serial port not working on Toshiba Tecra 9100

2010-05-09 Thread edc
Hi,

I tried with kernels 2.6.33.3 and 2.6.34rc6, the issue remains.
Serial port does not work natively, I need to boot with acpi=off to get it
working.

Regards,

Ed.

2010-05-08 Thread edc
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The serial port does not work on my Toshiba Tecra 9100 running lucid.
I am unable to connect to serial devices using minicom nor cu, cu says
Connected but I can't type any command.

Everything works OK if I turn acpi off on boot or with Windows XP.

Regards,

Ed.

[Bug 482386] [NEW] ValueError: unknown locale: en_NG

2009-11-13 Thread EdC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Hi

When I try to run Ubuntu Software Center from the application menu, I
get the timer for a while and then nothing.

Ubuntu 9.10

Is there a work around for me in the meantime? Can I change my locale? -
if so how?

From the command line I get:

[Bug 450882] Re: ubuntu one does not understand my account

2009-10-13 Thread EDC
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 450873 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/450873

Similar situation to Mike except that I never had an Ubuntu One account
that was cancelled. I click the Subcribe button to register for the
free 2 GB account and I'm taken to a page where I'm asked to Upgrade my
account. I want to try the free option before deciding whether to
upgrade.

[Bug 362570] Re: Python distutils installs into 'site-packages' instead of 'dist-packages' when a prefix is set

2009-08-12 Thread EdC
Thanks for the explanation for why the fix doesn't work for me :). I
can't seem to (easily) install the karmic package so I'll have to wait
until I upgrade to test the fix.

[Bug 362570] Re: Python distutils installs into 'site-packages' instead of 'dist-packages' when a prefix is set

2009-08-11 Thread EdC
For me, installing with --prefix=/usr/local still installs into a
directory (/usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/). That choice is OK
with me, but the problem is that this directory is not in the default
search path and so the original bug has not been resolved and this
breaks installations of third-party packages that used to work in 8.10.

Here's an example showing that installing a package (rdiff-backup in
this case) with the --prefix=/usr/local puts it in a location that is
not in the python search path:

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (450) $ dpkg -l python
...
ii python 2.6.2-0ubuntu1 An
interactive high-level object-oriented language (default version)

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (453) $ sudo python setup.py install
--prefix=/usr/local --record files-installed
running install
...
writing list of installed files to 'files-installed'

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (454) $ grep Main.pyc files-installed
/usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/rdiff_backup/Main.pyc

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (457) $ rdiff-backup --version
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/local/bin/rdiff-backup, line 20, in module
import rdiff_backup.Main
ImportError: No module named rdiff_backup.Main

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (462) $ sudo bash -c 'echo
/usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/local.pth'

/usr/local/src/rdiff-backup-1.2.5 (464) $ rdiff-backup --version
rdiff-backup 1.2.5

So I think /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ needs to be added to
the default search path.

[Bug 370932] Re: maradns init script silently fails during the boot, but works when run manually

2009-08-05 Thread EdC
I am also seeing this bug but I don't use wireless networking.

However, as for Felix, removing splash from the appropriate kernel
line in /boot/grub/menu.lst seems to fix the problem.

Very strange.
