[Bug 2075327] [NEW] New upstream release 550.107.02

2024-07-31 Thread Eduard de Vidal Flores
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to
make sure all of our users have access to these improvements.

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

[Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

[Bug 2073109] Re: nvidia-driver-550 could not be installed on [10de:25b0] and [10de:25b2]

2024-07-15 Thread Eduard de Vidal Flores
This bug is related to bug 2061830
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-550/+bug/2061830), where it was decided that we should be
"limiting the driver to be loaded only on the new hw supported by this
driver. This will be temporary until we are ready to migrate 535 to
550."

We are currently considering reverting that change now.

[Bug 2062380] Re: Using a 6.8 kernel 'modprobe nvidia' hangs on Quanta Grace Hopper

2024-06-13 Thread Eduard de Vidal Flores
The problem does not persist in newer versions of the driver. As such,
it will be fixed once the new drivers are released.

Additionally, in investigating the problem it seems that enabling the
flag does NOT fix the problem. As such, there is no benefit to adding
the flag in any case.

Considering this done.

[Bug 2052913] Re: [nvidia] Large Performance Regression in fullscreen windows from Ubuntu Jammy to Ubuntu Noble

2024-04-10 Thread Eduard Kachur
Can be related, I see that fullscreen windows are not being unredirected when
running Wayland session with mutter 46 (gfx1103_r1, LLVM 15.0.7, DRM 3.57,
6.8.0-22-generic):
RENDER: No direct scanout candidate: paint-box
(1688.00,-11.00,62.00,62.00) does not match stage-view layout
(0,0,1920,1080)

Actually right after boot when opening video in firefox I can see that
it's being unredirected, but after launching few apps, log above is
being shown for fullscreen windows.

Re: [Bug 1951098] Re: When screen is locked the top bar with apps shows

2021-11-28 Thread Eduard Drenth
Hi,
Thanks for the response.
After removing extensions, logout/login and than lock screen:
- I see info about ethernet, wifi, bluetooth, battery, nightlight- I can
operate sound level and suspend computer
After putting back extensions dir, not enabling custom extensions,
logout/login and than lock screen, on top of that:
- I see live patch icon and can click settings (only see launched
settings after logging in)- I see and can operate tuxedo control centre
(launched windows I only see after logging in)
After enabling custom extensions again, logout/login and than lock
screen:

- same as above

So perhaps only live patch is an issue that belongs here, but that's
not something I can judge.

By the way I run wayland.

[Bug 1935734] Re: nautilus can't open folder as root

2021-07-13 Thread Eduard
I can confirm that I am experiencing this issue now with my Ubuntu Hirsute
installation in VirtualBox.
I just ran all package updates it after not using this VM for a while.
After this I noticed it, because I wanted to do root access actions using GNOME
Nautilus.

Not so long ago I had this same issue under XFCE on Arch Linux too, but
that one got eventually fixed by updates, most likely including GVFS or
something related.

[Bug 1930637] Re: ath11k WIFI not working in proposed kernel 5.11.0-19-generic

2021-06-25 Thread Eduard
Ok, although I am normally using Hirsute, today I installed Focal, so I could
do the requested testing here for Focal as well.
I tested:
 - 5.11.0-20-generic
 - 5.11.0-20-lowlatency
 - 5.11.0-22-generic
 - 5.11.0-22-lowlatency
 - 5.11.0-23-generic
 - 5.11.0-23-lowlatency

Because these where the kernels that I got available today with Proposed
enabled.

All of these kernels give me a working Soundwire and a working ath11k!

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-15 Thread Eduard
@vicamo

Thanks!
It turns out to be something with my installation (no success after removing
NVIDIA drivers and it also turns out that installing an older generic kernel
version gives the same issue when I try that, something seems completely broken
here). I will find that out for myself.

So not a problem for the new kernel indeed.

2021-06-14 Thread Eduard
See my reply here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1921632/comments/56

I describe that I am tested 5.11.0-20 right now.

So WIFI ath11k works (and Soundwire, that's the bugreport that I am
replying on). A new graphics related issues occurs with the generic
version of the kernel, lowlatency works fine.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-14 Thread Eduard
Alright, testing the kernel 5.11.0-20 right now (I didn't realize that
it was available already, because somehow it didn't show up as an
automatic update anymore when having proposed updates enabled).

For me, also working with XPS 9700, the kernel works, but only the
5.11.0-20-lowlatency without issues.
Both the WIFI ath11k issue and the Soundwire issue are solved for me.

But 5.11.0-20-generic does not load the GUI, only a blinking cursor on a black
screen. :(
When I boot the kernel from GRUB without the "quit" and "splash" parameters, I
see the full kernel and systemd outputs.
With Ctrl+Alt+F* I can also switch to terminals and just login to a terminal.

So I suspect there is an issue with the NVIDIA driver and this kernel.
So I think something needs to be fixed with that.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Eduard
Alright, I also tested the proposed 5.11.0-19-generic now.

SoundWire does work on this kernel.
So that part is OK.

BUT

Recently a new bug has been introduced with the ath11k driver, that my machine
also uses.
It seems that we are now going to introduce this same bug on Ubuntu if this
kernel gets accepted (It has already passed It has already passed Arch Linux
and Fedora, on which I reported too. And has also been fixed already.)
The result is that WIFI is not working.

Shall I do a separate bug report for this?

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-02 Thread Eduard
Hi, I am lucky that I am reading the verification request now.

Yesterday I tried this one by manual dpkg-install:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.13-rc4/amd64/

Was this build supposed to have the fix included as well? Because for me
sound still did not work.

[Bug 1925730] Re: Dell XPS 17 (Ubuntu 21.04) - No sound AT ALL upon fresh installation

2021-05-25 Thread Eduard
Hi,

For about at least two months now, I have found the reason, and also how
to solve it. And that is no other than compiling the kernel by yourself,
while applying a change in the configuration.

See:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=976791

These settings need to be enabled before build (the first one makes the second
one visible):
CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_USER_FRIENDLY_LONG_NAMES=y
CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m

Here follows is how to do it whith the NCurses interface that you get with the
kernel source for Ubuntu:
Device Drivers  --->
 Sound card support  --->
   Advanced Linux Sound Architecture  --->
ALSA for SoC audio support --->
-*-   Intel Machine drivers  --->
[*] Use more user friendly long card
names
   SoundWire generic machine driver

For now I won't go into more detail, but this is wat needs to be done and what
Canonical/Ubuntu should have done by themselves!
Ubuntu is the only distro which I know that has this setting still disabled.

SoundWire works out of the box with Arch Linux, with Fedora, with
Debian, but not with Ubuntu (why doing these things different from
Debian?).

So please Canonical/Ubuntu correct it! Thanks!

This is still an issue in a clean install, default config ubuntu 20.04
with all updates and indicator-multiload from the repo also in its
absolute default config.

This makes it basically impossible to use multiload with 20.04 right
now.

[Bug 1909594] [NEW] No feedback when unmounting is finished

2020-12-29 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
Public bug reported:

I'm using "Files" 3.36.3-stable on Ubuntu 20.04. When writing large
amounts of data to USB HDD it can take up to a minute to fully flush the
data to HDD.

"Files" provides a button for unmounting of my USB HDD. When I click
this button unmount is started with "Unmounting usbdisk - Disconnecting
from filesystem" appearing in notification area. This notification stays
on the screen until I remove it with "X". It stays on the screen even
after unmounting is finished.

But in GUI there is NO notification that unmounting has finished! And if
the notification is removed (with "X") there is also no indication that
unmounting is still in progress.

[Bug 1901164] Re: Barcode backend does not work after update to ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-23 Thread Eduard Mann
** Description changed:

  Release:
  Description: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
  Release: 20.04
  Paket: glabels (3.4.1-1.2) [universe]

Expected that labels which were created with Ubuntu 18.04, including
barcode code 128, still displayed and could be printed.Unfortunately the
barcode is not displayed any more. Error Message Barcode is not valid -
  free translation.

Further the gnu-barcode / barcode backend is not selectable for the
barcode object in glabels, even the barcode package is installed.

  Assumption:

the barcode package does not install the library starting from 0.99 by

- this library during the build phase neither are the runtime libs
- provided on the installed system.
+ default (which is fixed in the groovy version 0.99-4), therefore the
+ build of the glabels package does not include this library during the
+ build phase neither are the runtime libs provided on the installed

  Workaround which worked for me:

Download and Install the barcode package from groovy (using dpkg -i):

Rebuild the glabels package from Source:

  mkdir glabels-build
  cd glabels-build/
  apt-get source glabels
  cd glabels-3.4.1/
  debchange -i
  dpkg-source --commit
  debuild -us -uc -i -I

  Install the fresh build package:

  sudo debi

-
The barcode backend become available in glabels after the above steps.

Yes, sounds pretty much like it. I have two keyboard layouts configured
(German and Catalan). Now I realized that the Super key works when the
active layout is the same as the top one in the Region & Language
settings. If I change the order in the settings dialog, then it will
work only for the language that was moved to the top.

[Bug 1807499] Re: 30 seconds boot delay when root fs is on lvm

2018-12-08 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
A the moment I can see following solutions:

(1)
Make the lvchange_activate function in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 a while loop which executes
the "lvchange" command repeatedly until the root LV appears

(2)
Utilize udevd to create the LV devices while wait-for-root is waiting for the
root LV to appear. A hack for doing so is to replace in
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-lvm-metad.rules the line 96
  ACTION!="remove", ENV{LVM_PV_GONE}=="1", RUN+="/bin/systemd-run /sbin/lvm
pvscan --cache $major:$minor --activate ay", GOTO="lvm_end"
with
  ACTION!="remove", RUN+="/sbin/lvm pvscan --cache $major:$minor --activate ay"

[Bug 1807499] [NEW] 30 seconds boot delay when root fs is on lvm

2018-12-08 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
Public bug reported:

On my system the root filesystem is located on a logical volume. I have
constant boot delay of 30 seconds. My current conclusion is that this
problem exists due to lvm performing the initramfs-tools local-top
initialization incorrectly.

According to initramfs-tools(8):
local-top OR nfs-top After these scripts have been executed, the root device
node is expected to be present (local) or the network interface is expected to
be usable (NFS).

But what /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 is simply try
to activate the requested root volume by means of scanning the (at that
moment) available block devices. What happens on my system is that
local-top/lvm2 is executed before the pv block device (SATA-SSD) shows
up. Then initramfs-tools calls the wait-for-root executable which waits
for the root device node notification via udev.

This has a (minimum) timeout of 30 seconds configured. This timeout is
exceeded since nothing will make the root volume device to be created.
Then later (I guess in local-block) the root volume device is created
(since the pv is available).

[Bug 1806257] Re: gnome-shell excessive logging cannot bind to x11-unix

2018-12-02 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
For some reason (I cannot remember) my root filesystem node "/" had the
owner set to my user. I guess this used to work for some time. And some
change in mutter or related packages made this break.

Changed back owner to root.root and system is now starting properly.
Don't know what to say about the system failing in such an obscure way.

The gigabytes of log messages consist only of messages like this:

Dec 2 17:08:33 host gnome-shell[3869]: failed to bind to

Downgrading the mutter package makes the error go away.

[Bug 1775283] Re: SRU of LXC 3.0.1 (upstream bugfix release)

2018-09-27 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
lxc-copy is no longer working for me since this "SRU".

Command used:
  lxc-copy -n bionic-template -N bionic-new -s

Gives in strace:
  ioctl(4, BTRFS_IOC_SNAP_CREATE_V2, {fd=0, flags=0, name="rootfs"}) = -1 EXDEV
(Invalid cross-device link)

Apparently the "fd=0" is wrong. I guess that commit
9de31d5a1394fd0bed495fa7cde5e625a1d64b48 made this break. Can this SRU
be reverted for now?

[Bug 1788001] Re: Wrong permission for /etc/apt-cacher-ng

Really?
$ ls /etc/apt-cacher-ng/ -ld
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Jul 4 20:34 /etc/apt-cacher-ng/

It has all the permissions it needs to read the files. You might have
something more fishy in the system.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-04-16 Thread Eduard Pertinez i Juncosa
For the record.
My scanner Epson Workforve WF-7610 was not recognized by iscan yet xsane
recognized it.

sudo -u saned scanimage -L
returned
device `epson2:net:192.168.1.30' is a Epson PID 08B9 flatbed scanner

but it did not work.
It used to work flawesly with the same configuration BEFORE upgrading to 17.10.

My workaround:
a) Commented epson2 and epson in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf . I added epkowa.
b) epkowa.conf has the correct net ip.
c) I copied epkowa drivers to correct lib folder
cp /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa.* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane/

after that
sudo -u saned scanimage -L
returned
device `epkowa:net:192.168.1.30' is a Epson WF-7610/7620 Series flatbed scanner

and iscan ran again.

[Bug 1751460] Re: [regression] deja-dup-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in Gigacage::::operator()

2018-03-24 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
It is really a sad affair here. As far as I know Linux does not provide
a explicit means to limit the amount of memory an application can use.
The only reliable ulimit one can set is the virtual size limit. It feels
also strange that DejaDup pulls a full web-browser into its background
daemon. And furthermore that this web browser is not initialized on
demand, but unconditionally.

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2018-01-09 Thread Eduard Braun
One thing we'd need to consider is that some more or less basic Inkscape
functionality currently relies on Python extensions, e.g.
- Several templates
- Help links
although I already wondered if this was even really necessary -
I assume there are better solutions available to open a link from GTK
- Export/Import extensions
They are not strictly Inkscape core but a lot of users are not aware
they might be running an extension to export to their favorite format.

Second important questions is if this would only affect packaging or if we
really want to split out the extension code from the Inkscape source repository
into a more or less self sufficient sub-project.
In the latter case I fear that the bundled extensions - which are in a pretty
desolate state even now - might bit-rot even faster (less users, less
developers having the repo on their radar, less obvious affiliation with the
core program).
If we could achieve to make the extensions into a "community project" (that is
a lot more user driven, allowing easy contributions and additions of new
extensions with well-organized categorization and documentation) that could
also improve upon the status-quo but as a start this would require a "core
team" of people who would be willing to do the necessary maintenance (not sure
we have that right now...).

[Bug 1417470] Re: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing

2017-11-24 Thread Eduard Braun
As the previous fix only worked around the issue by adding blank pages to the
output I had another shot at fixing this. I created a merge request with a
"proper" fix that actually outputs partial renderings of the final document
which can then be stacked in the LaTeX document with the text sandwiched in
between, see
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/merge_requests/135

As the renderer (especially the hack we use to make PDF+LaTeX work) is a
fragile thing and I'm not too familiar with it yet this requires a lot
of testing. I'd appreciate if you could check with your own samples if
Inkscape produces proper output.

Attached is an example document that should highlight the new
functionality.

[Bug 1724639] Re: Graphics problem - 80% of the Left hand side of screen solid black

2017-10-22 Thread Eduard
@kaihengfeng;

I have tried both kernels you proposed, and can confirm what has been stated in
the opensuse-Forum:
Both Kernels 4.11 and 4.12 SEEM to be working and show no graphic glitches.

So the first idea would be that something happend within the Kernel transition
from 4.12 to 4.13, , but not too easy.
Trying to open differnet Applications with 4.12 shows that there is already
something fishy going on with the graphics, e.g. LibreOffice will not start
with Kernel 4.12 and I believe it must have to do with the graphics.

This is in accordance with the errors / logs / exceptions posted in the
opensuse bug-report.

So for Computers / Laptops / Netbooks using the Intel Mobile 945
Chipsets and Ubuntu 17.10, I would personally recommend the 4.11 Kernel,
for I found it to be most stable and all applications I have tested so
far do work.

I can help with logs and dmesg if needed, please just tell me what logs
you need.

For everyone who has this error, I will show you a workaround so you can still
use your computer even after the update to 17.10.
The workaround consists of installing kernel 4.11 and using it.

Enter Grub (which is the startup manager) by holding down the shift key while
booting.
If you have Grub showing up on every boot (e.g. if you have a multi OS and also
have Win 7/8/10) installed, even better.
Now select Ubuntu ... enhanced options and then select starting up with the
4.10 Kernel (which still should be installed if you have updated from 17.04).
If the option to start up with the 4.10 kernel is not available, select
recovery mode (which should also work fine, but you have to work with a low
resolution then)

In the 4.10 Ubuntu (recovery mode) open your browser and go to this directory:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11/

under "Build for i386 succeeded" download these 3 files:

linux-headers-4.11.0-041100_4.11.0-041100.201705041534_all.deb
linux-headers-4.11.0-041100-generic_4.11.0-041100.201705041534_i386.deb
linux-image-4.11.0-041100-generic_4.11.0-041100.201705041534_i386.deb

After the download, put those 3 Files in a new, seperate folder, and
open the directory with the terminal (right click on the folder --> open
in Terminal).

In the Terminal post:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Press enter and wait. The 4.11 Kernel will be installed, it takes a while.
After that, you can reboot your computer and in Grub in the enhanced options
you can now start your computer with the 4.11 generic kernel, which works fine
for me.

If you want Ubuntu to start up everytime with the 4.11 Kernel, you can
use the "Grub Customzier" for that. Here is how you install the grub
customizer:

http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/04/install-grub-customizer-
ubuntu-1404/

Let's hope that someone in this Linux world can make the Intel Mobile Graphics
card work again in a de-bugged 4.13 kernel =)

Cheers and Kudos everyone !

[Bug 1724639] Re: Graphics problem - 80% of the Left hand side of screen solid black

2017-10-22 Thread Eduard
I can confirm the bug too.
After the Xubuntu update from 17.04 to 17.10, the intel mobile graphics is
broken.

Moreover, the issue seems to be a little bigger.
The bug here is the same one as bug #1720703 , so Mods please merge the two
bugs.
It seems to have nothing to do with the Ubuntu distro, as is is present in
Ubuntu Mate,
Ubuntu, Lubuntu und Xubuntu, all Versions 17.10 -- > so this indicates that it
is Kernel 4.13
related.

And it seems to affect other distros as well.
The bug also affects OpenSuse, with Kernel 4.13:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1058870

So there seems to be something wrong with Kernel 4.13 with the Intel
Graphics 945.

In the openSUSE Bug Report, users state that Kernels 4.11 and 4.12 are
still working.

I will test that right now and report back.

Thank you Community for all the efforts.

[Bug 1220472] Re: USA keyboard layout - ctrl + z and ctrl + y replaced

2017-07-30 Thread Eduard Braun
Is this still and issue?

Just tried on Windows 10 with both
- Inkscape 0.92.2pre0 (973e216, 2017-07-25) and
- Inkscape 0.92+devel (48344d68f8, 2017-07-29)
and actually Ctrl+Z/Y is switched when I switch from German to English keyboard
layout.

Now
- there might be differences between Windows and Linux
- Inkscape is actually supposed to behave like described initially
but (in the scope of this bug) I can't reproduce it.
