[Bug 1186800] Re: [830 v3.7 regression] Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2013-06-13 Thread EffE
wow that's hard!

git log --oneline v3.6.11..v3.7 | wc
  13005 104076 815300

I'll try to filter a bit, on a P3 866mhz takes ages to compile with each
commit...Frankly I don't think it's worth it.

[Bug 1186800] Re: [830 v3.7 regression] Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2013-06-13 Thread EffE
Chris,
I'm trying to bisect but seems I have a problem with build-mainline-one
script...

effe@C400:~/linux-stable$ git bisect start -- arch/i386 include/video
effe@C400:~/linux-stable$ git bisect bad v3.7
effe@C400:~/linux-stable$ git bisect good v3.6.11
Bisecting: 15 revisions left to test after this (roughly 4 steps)
[14d33d384693eb6083396199de516fdef320f7af] OMAPDSS: Correct DISPC_IRQ bit
definitions for LCD3
effe@C400:~/linux-stable$ git describe 14d33d384693eb6083396199de516fdef320f7af
v3.5-rc2-87-g14d33d3
effe@C400:~/kteam-tools/mainline-build$ ./mainline-build-one

*** BUILDING: commit:14d33d384693eb6083396199de516fdef320f7af series:raring

fatal: No names found, cannot describe anything.
build-mainline-one: 14d33d384693eb6083396199de516fdef320f7af: invalid commit

I can't create the .deb I need to install the kernel to test nor I can't
find a solution, I think I need to be much more geek...

F.

[Bug 1174571] Re: pcmanfm does not browse network shares

2013-06-05 Thread EffE
I can confirm it on Lubuntu 13.04. I can resolve host/computer name but I can't
access the shares. Adding a complete ip/name path on Pcmanfm, like
smb://192.168.0.107/Downloads or smb://OPTIPLEXGX620/Vídeos, will mount share
and grant a full access and I can also mount share via Gigolo without issues.
Sometimes the share works just fine after a couple of mount/unmount cycle but I
think it's just a coincidence.

[Bug 1186800] Re: Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2013-06-03 Thread EffE
Hi Chris,

The information collected are merged after an hang with kernel
V3.8.0-23-generic and a forced reboot (pressing power button).

Again, my system is stable with kernel V3.6.11, the Issue starts with kernel
V3.7.0+.
I installed also openssh-server to see if I can access the machine remotely
during hangs but is not reachable.

Re: [Bug 1186800] Re: Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2013-06-03 Thread EffE
Understood. Well for now the unique workaround I found is to block the
grub entry on V3.6.11 on startup so the system works. It's not my
primary machine then I would like to help you (or with the maintainer
of the kernel in this case) to do a bisection. Just ask.

2013/6/3, Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk:
Nothing untoward stands out in the logs from the working setup.
Unfortunately, if it is a hard hang and the machine is unaccessible from
the network, then the easiest way to debug the issue is likely with a
 kernel bisection.

[Bug 1186800] [NEW] Video goes blank and system hangs (using an old kernel fix it)

2013-06-02 Thread EffE
Public bug reported:

I'm on a very old Dell C400 P3 866 with 768mb ram which still works rock
solid. I've upgraded this system from Lubuntu 12.10 to 13.04 but with
every kernel above V3.6.11 (took from mainline ubuntu) system hangs
randomly.

I tried to install Intel video drivers from
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/ (Intel(R) Linux* Graphics Installer
version 1.0.1 for Ubuntu* 13.04 (32-bit)) but this did not solve the
problem. I'm not sure if is driver or kernel related since on the last
release change the drivers curiously works using kernel V3.9 but before
revert to this release I would like to help to find a solution.

[Bug 480929] Re: [Dell Mini 9]Audio hiss coming from netbook speakers when using headphones

2011-04-19 Thread EffE
Yeah David, both alsa-infos were taken with headphone plugged in.

I tried quickly and no one seems to affect the hiss. I admit to haven't tried
so much because I have a fly to Rio within few hours and I have many things to
do.
As soon as I can I'll check better. :)

Does your Dell Mini9's have a Line-in or only a mic-in?

[Bug 590003] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build

2010-06-07 Thread EffE
On my Dell Mini9 I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with kernel 2.6.34-020634-generic
installed from the latest mainline (17-May-2010 22:38). I was able to
successfully build bcmwl-kernel-source copying the four headers found on
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.34-020634-generic/include/generated to
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.34-020634-generic/include/linux.
Then I reinstalled bcmwl with a simple sudo apt-get --reinstall install
bcmwl-kernel-source. That's all.

[Bug 480929] Re: [9.10]Audio hiss coming from netbook speakers when using headphones

2009-11-14 Thread EffE
I forgot to say this issue seems to be present even of a 9.04 with custom
kernel 2.6.30 compiled with Kernelcheck using the same configuration of kernel
2.6.28. Same behavior.Perhaps a kernel setting?
I can't reproduce it because I completely removed Ubuntu 9.04 now. Need space
on my 8GB SSD. If you like I can reinstall it and check but I need some days to
do it.

[Bug 480929] [NEW] [9.10]Audio hiss coming from netbook speakers when using headphones

2009-11-11 Thread EffE
Public bug reported:

When you put headphone jack in an hissing sound starts from speakers, if you
remove headphone the noise stops immediately. The sound in headphone is quite
perfect.
I'm on a dual boot machine (9.04 and 9.10), with jaunty with kernel 2.6.28
sound is perfect with no issues. Audio settings are the same on both OS (done
with alsamixer). I suppose it's a pulseaudio/gnome-media/kernel settings
related problem (Karmic now uses 2.6.31-14 kernel) but can't be sure.
Tested it with mics muted and all audio set to zero. No luck.

Pulseaudio 1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4
gnome-media 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
Kernel 2.6.31-14-generic

Tested on a Dell Mini9. Please see additional informations on ubuntu
forums:
