[Bug 987933] Re: 10de:0407 Ubuntu 12.04 shutdown hangs with proprietary nVidia driver

2012-09-10 Thread Elmar Roberg
For me, this problem developed about a week ago. Cannot recall exactly when.
Changing grub did not work.

Also, the Kubuntu Launcher buttons no longer work either.

I have shut down by using Terminal,

The notebook (DELL xps m1530) then shuts down but does not actually shut
off.

Not sure if this may have something to do with the fact that I did not
know that one must use kdesudo when starting a gui process.

[Bug 1000690] Re: Kubuntu 12.04 doesn't logout/reboot/shutdown after accidentally adding new default panel

2012-09-07 Thread Elmar Roberg
I too have this problem.

When using it shuts down, takes me the grey panel, the
dots change until the last one is highlighted, but the machine does not
switch off. I then have to hold down the power off hard button to switch
off.

This problem seems to come and go. This time I cannot find a solution to
it.

[Bug 954565] Re: Applications bleed or move into adjacent workspaces...

2012-08-16 Thread Elmar Roberg
Can confirm that it is not just when window touches edges of workspace
as I first thought.

In fact action is quite random.

After connecting to projector, found that windows were randomly
distributed (e.g. Virtualbox from WS12 to WS9, associated VM to WS8;
Thunderbird from WS11 to WS12; Tomboy from WS5 to WS6.) Interestingly
fullscreen Nautilus in WS1 stayed where it was.

Keyboard settings CTL+ALT+1 to 0 work to switch WS, but
CTL+ALT+- switch to WS11
CTL+ALT+= switch to WS12
do not work.

But, I guess you guys are doing nothing about it, so not sure why we
bother.

[Bug 954565] Re: Applications bleed or move into adjacent workspaces...

2012-08-14 Thread Elmar Roberg
The bleeding seems to occur when a window is close to one of the
workspace edges.

Since the default seems to be to snap to an edge, the window first has
to be moved and it tends to eb sticky (need to do two actions if want to
move it horizontally and vertically away from an edge.

It does not seem to occur to windows that have been maximised.

[Bug 954565] Re: Applications bleed or move into adjacent workspaces...

2012-08-04 Thread Elmar Roberg
This is the most frustrating thing! Enough to cause one to tear one's
hair out.

It has nothing to do with Gimp. For me, it happens with system monitor,
arora, chrome, almost anything, and every day. Worst is that the windows
sometimes get moved to workspaces that are not even visible. Nothing
then appears in the Unity bar. If I then open the doc in Nautilus again,
it reappears as if by magic.

Other times, something happens and whilst the panel is still visible it
becomes non-responsive. I then discovered if you press the hard shutdown
button it brings up the shutdown dialog and restore the workspaces
again.

The worst is that all this stuff worked perfectly in ubuntu 11.04. I did
not upgrade to 11.10 because I could simply not get it to work at all on
my Dell XPS.

The other frustrating thing is that it sometimes bleeds it in such a way
that just the top border is not visible - so you cannot drag the window.
Only option sometimes is to open up system monitor, kill the process and
restart it again

Do you know how frustrating this is if you are due for a meeting and
have some last minute printing to do, or something like that?

[Bug 1019740] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 shuts down unexpectedly

2012-07-01 Thread Elmar Roberg
Public bug reported:

Have reported a beg regarding Update Manager today.
Resolved part of the problem with advice at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12027673

However, when do apt-get update, fails because it seems some websites
not available.

Now, Switching workspaces does not work - not in Unity not in Gnome. If
I use CTl+Alt+arrow keys takes me to a WS where the panel and Unity Dash
become inoperable (clicking on anything - including the shutdown icon -
has no effect), and all the open Apps "disappear."

If I then press the the hard shutdown button, the apps reappear, Dash
and the Panel become operable again, but after a few minutes the system
shuts down.

1, 2, 4, 5

The issue seems to be that if the image in the jpg goes right up to the

Try it with the attached image.

If I insert a picture into a document. Then reduce the size, the left
hand side is cropped, losing part of the picture. I notice that by
manipulating the width and height, this can be reduced, but is a time
consuming process, and can result in distortion esp. of text.

[Bug 826657] Re: Restart Numbering at this paragragh does not work in List

2011-08-15 Thread Elmar Roberg
I think I have misunderstood this. Sorry!

The feature I was attempting to use is "line numbering". I confused this
with paragraph numbering, which I struggled with in MS Word as well.
(Have been a user of MSW for 20+y, and Wordstar and other products
before that, and LO style handling is a vast improvement on MSW.)

[Bug 826657] [NEW] Restart Numbering at this paragragh does not work in List

2011-08-15 Thread Elmar Roberg
Public bug reported:

I have tried the tick box in the style (Numbering n Start) and in the
normal paragraph formatting.)

I also notice that if I copy a part of text (embedded in a paragraph,
excluding the paragraph marker, say the text inside these brackets), and
paste it with Ctl+V, then it brings with it paragraph style info. I thus
have to paste as "unformatted text". This is a pain, since it means
extra effort, and is counter-intuitive.

I am also new to Linux/ Ubuntu.
First time it seemed to be related to not knowing that i need to unmount, and

However, this time, I used the eject in "places" in Nautilus after

There is also no icon for either on the desktop.
