[Bug 1856633] [NEW] My touchpad stop working

2019-12-16 Thread Emiliano Falabrini
Public bug reported:

I followed this

In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the
Touchpad)

This is generally a case of a kernel (linux) or xorg bug.

Execute at a terminal:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices

One should see a touchpad device, like:

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio2/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse2 event8
B: EV=b
B: KEY=420 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=1103

If you do not find something like this, then the bug is in the linux
kernel. Please follow these steps:

File the bug against the linux package by running ubuntu-bug
linux.

Provide the general information.

Enter the following commands in a terminal:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices

Attach ~/devices as separate attachments to your bug report.

So that would go into /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and that would be all that's
in it? I don't have an xorg.conf currently, and I haven't edited one in
a very long time.

So would it be best in the interim to move to the non-modesetting
driver, disable the present extension, or disable page flipping? I don't
really know what the impact of any of those would be, but the freezes
are getting pretty impactful for me.

[Bug 1821059] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2019-03-20 Thread Emiliano
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to 18.10, I get frequent freezes when I resume my
system (hp elitebook 820 g3) from sleep. The system seems to run, but
the screen remains black. Not dark, black, like the screen is off. ctrl-
alt-fX do not change consoles (or they do maybe, but since the screen is
off, I can't tell. I did not have this problem under 18.04. It seems to
be tied to the time the system has been asleep; 10 minutes or so and the
system wakes up no issue, but after an hour I frequently need to hard-
reset.

[Bug 1782233] [NEW] Connection through network-manager-vpnc package does not work, but manually connecting using vpnc command line does

2018-07-17 Thread Emiliano
Public bug reported:

I have configured a vpnc connection to my home network (Fritz!Box). When
I connect through the network manager, I can connect but there's no
network connections; when I connect manually using the same credentials
using the instructions from https://askubuntu.com/a/488446/687208, it
does work.

Superficially it sounds like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/network-manager-vpnc/+bug/274002, but I'm not getting that error since
I can in fact connect to the VPN, but after that all connections fail.

$ find /etc/X11 -iname xorg.conf

and

$ find /usr/share/X11 -iname xorg.conf

both return 0 files

Can I somehow reset the xorg conf (and expect it to work)?

I see BTW that intel recommends kernel 4.16 in its stack
(https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2018q1-intel-graphics-stack-
recipe). Could that be an issue? I have 4.15, I don't think a newer
kernel is available in Ubuntu.

I alternate between Wayland and Xorg now. I'd prefer to use Xorg; under
Wayland I see the intel card being used, under xorg I see llvmpipe.

Did I submit under Wayland. That's dumb. Can I send my logs again?

[Bug 1688213] Re: Filesystem could not be read/written anymore

2018-05-08 Thread Emiliano Vavassori
Cannot run the indicated command; logs are long gone and I'm not using
anymore this kernel (using linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04, which is
working fine).

Frankly I do think we may close the bug as WONTFIX, since the kernel
version is not anymore in the repositories, plus if you are running
xenial you should have migrated long ago to linux-hwe. Please advise.

I've just ran do-release-upgrade on a Lenovo P51, and the systems hangs
just after "Starting Session c1 of user gdm". I get a little further by
purging nvidia-* (I get the GDM greeter again) but after logging in
there, the screen freezes and a little later I'm kicked back to the
greeter.

[Bug 1688213] Re: Filesystem could not be read/written anymore

2017-05-04 Thread Emiliano Vavassori
@volt: I have a different DE (based on GNOME) so I cannot assure the
behavior between the two DEs are similar. What happens (for example) is
that the Telegram Desktop application stop to work, kills itself and
cannot be reopened, for example. Icons to shutdown the session or the PC
are missing. It is a little slower than normal and any other operation
usually silently fails.

No dual booting here, just Zorin, installed on UEFI.

[Bug 1688213] [NEW] Filesystem could not be read/written anymore

2017-05-04 Thread Emiliano Vavassori

Packages

Hardware information: Dell XPS 15 (9550), lshw attached as hardware.info.txt.

Description:
At a random time when normally using the PC, the disk is rendered unavailable
and any commands run or file accessed has a read error. Poweroff and reboot
hang because of unavailable disk. System is completely unusable and needs a
forceful restart (pushing the power on button).
Misbehaviour happens 100% of the sessions, but with random time to appear (10
minutes to 2 hours after the boot). NOTE: Log harvesting is quite impossible
because the disk is rendered unavailable also to system process.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Boot with affected kernel and work normally
1) Wait between 10 minutes and 2 hours for the disk to be rendered unavailable
2) Power cycle the PC using the power button

Workaround:
There are no strict workaround known for the kernel versions affected; once
misbehaviour has happened, the only thing that makes the PC usable again is to
boot with previous kernel version (e.g. linux-image-4.8.0-46-generic included
and lower works as expected).

Expected result:
Kernel does not render disk unavailable and continuously works.

[Bug 1580237] Re: pam_mount doesn't mount when using sgrp

2016-07-11 Thread Emiliano Vavassori
Hi,

Just try to see if this fixes:
* Upgrade to the latest version (on 14.04, 4.3.9);
* Add to /etc/samba/smb.conf file in the [global] section on the client:
winbind expand groups = 1
* Restart smbd, nmbd and winbind

Fixed your same issue. sgrp seems to mount right after this procedure.

happened while i'm logged in, randomly. To 'fix it' i had to close my session

In my case, the mouse pointer appears on LightDM (by now).
Best,

[Bug 1068411] Re: 1002:9712 fglrx driver doesn't recognize my ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

2012-10-21 Thread Emiliano
The penalty occours when trying any application that uses OpenGL. The
frame rates drops like 30% on any application that uses 3D acceleration
(like on to https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demos/) compared with
Ubuntu 12.04 provided drivers.

I will flag this bug report as resolved. Since I managed to get fglrx to
recognize my video card again.

sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf
libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
cd ~/; mkdir catalyst12.1; cd catalyst12.1/
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run
sh ./amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/oneiric
sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb
sudo aticonfig --initial -f
sudo reboot

The one thing is that Unity still doesn't launch/shows as before. I will
file another bug report about it (If doesn't exits). Meanwhile will
start using Gnome Shell that seems to be working now.

2012-10-21 Thread Emiliano
Javascript or any app that uses 3D acceleration gets a penalization in
frame rates.

"do you have problem(s) with the open source drivers provided by default that
fglrx-installer was ment to address for your
applications?" Can you rephrase that sentence? I didn't fully understand your
question.

I tried to contact AMD directly, besides being ridicusly annoying and
confusing, I will try again.

Thanks for your support Christopher.

2012-10-20 Thread Emiliano
In response comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-
installer/+bug/1068411/comments/8.

As you said, my graphic cards is still supported by ATI driver 12.06
(8.97.100.3). There is a reference of it here:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Quantal_Installation_Guide.

(Link gattered from here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu)

I followed the instructions there. Downloaded
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/amd-driver-
installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.zip and did:

unzip to home directory
sudo sh ./amd-driver-installer-*.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/quantal
sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb
sudo aticonfig --initial -f

But, as soon I do dpkg -i fglrx*.deb, a error stops the installation. I
attached the error log.

[Bug 1068411] Re: 1002:9712 fglrx driver doesn't recognize my ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

2012-10-19 Thread Emiliano
Emiliano, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please
answer the following questions:
+ Does this issue not occur in gnome-shell?
+ Did this issue not occur with a release prior to Quantal?
+ As a potential WORKAROUND, does the upstream release of fglrx work for you
following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6
 ?

Nothings really works. Gnome-Shell or Unity. The problem is when the
Quantal installation finishes and reboot my system it doesn't take my
12.4 propietary version of the Catalyst driver (Installed from Unbutu,
and 12.04 worked fine)

No, it doesn't occur prior to Quantal. 12.04 worked great.

I tried the workaround already. Tried the "Using the Ubuntu
repositories", "Manually installing Catalyst 12.6" (My graphic card
support was droped after 12.4) and "MESA "error" recommendations.
Nothing.

Sorry for the delay. If any other log is needed, please ask.

[Bug 882226] [NEW] bluedevil doesn't recognize AR9285 integrated bluetooth device

2011-10-26 Thread Emiliano
Public bug reported:

Bluedevil does not recognize my integrated bluetooth device. I own an
AR9285 WLAN/bluetooth integrated device with kubuntu oneiric. With
Ubuntu, gnome-bluetooth recognize it and it works as expected. I tried
to restart bluetoothd, but nothing seems to happend. I tried with rfkill
command, nothing anymore. I tried to execute bluedevel from the main
menu, the bluetooth icon appears in the tray bar, but the bluetooth
device is recognized as unactive. In the end, I tried to execute
bluedevil-wizard from a terminal, but it segfaults.

[Bug 657783] Re: xorg 100% cpu while using xournal

2011-03-22 Thread Emiliano Bonassi
I'm very disappointed to say that there was no solution, i cannot write more
than 4 pages , after that xournal become unusable.
None of the patch works, some i ask if there was a solution that consist of the
replacement of libgnomecanvas with another library that do the same work.
If not won't be possible, there was some kind of alternatives to xournal on
linux?
I don't want to return to windows to use my tablet.
Thanks,
 Emiliano
