Confirming that disabling n-mode is a valid workaround.

But I'm curious as to why this rate control bug keeps coming back once
every few kernel releases.

[Bug 1093188] Re: Overlay scrollbars do not permit WPA/WPA2 Enterprise connections with CA certs

2012-12-24 Thread Eric Appleman
Cannot replicate in Quantal live CD. Haven't tried a full install.

So, I guess it's a regression until proven otherwise.

Btw, to trigger this bug, you don't even need an actual network. You can
try connecting to a nonexistant hidden network (preferably PEAP) as long
as the criteria are met and no cert is chosen.

It can happen from the network applet so long as the network actually
exists and enterprise menu comes up to configure the network.

The bug is present with both Unity and GNOME-Shell.

[Bug 1052305] [NEW] Unity does not respect window theme

2012-09-17 Thread Eric Appleman
Public bug reported:

Continuing from bug #800315

When setting themes in Unity, the existing tools (gnome-tweak-tool and
gnome-appearance) to change themes do not successfully change the window
theme. The proper gconf/dconf(?) setting is not changed.

Other DEs such as Gnome-Shell and Cinnamon are not affected.

[Bug 1050202] [NEW] Cherrypick xrandr list providers to complete DRI2 offloading graphics stack

2012-09-12 Thread Eric Appleman
Public bug reported:

Assuming that Intel 2.20.7 and Nouveau 1.0.2 land for Quantal, we will
have 99% of the components needed for Phase 1 PRIME support referred to
as DRI2 offloading.

The only missing piece would be a single commit for xrandr.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xrandr/commit/?id=7cb20881991c8bcf7e8fa0af6ad0f85682f98e1f

Phase 2 stuff like power management and auto-switching aren't going to
be ready until 13.04, but we can do Phase 1 rather easily in this cycle
since everything else (dri2proto, xserver, mesa, etc) is ready.

An empty OSI string will load the brightness controls in what seems to

[Bug 813259] Re: btrfs cannot boot if / and /home are separate

2012-01-22 Thread Eric Appleman
Might be relevant

When installing Ubuntu in one large btrfs-Partition without an extra
boot-partition, take care to keep about 1 Mib space free at the
beginning of the disk. This is possible using the partition manager in
the Ubuntu installer. When there is not this space, the installer fails
at the end when trying to install Grub!

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-11-15 Thread Eric Appleman
Since we are playing Occupy 668415, I'll add my 2 cents.

Unity is a joke. The sidebar pops up way to often and the interface is a
mess where nothing works well together. Global menus are a nice gesture
to free up screen space, but just too wonky.

On the other hand, aside from not shipping MGSE's bottom bar, GNOME
Shell is beautiful and more mature.

[Bug 312756] Re: MASTER: support graphics card hot switch

2011-06-19 Thread Eric Appleman
Looks like AMD has a questionable Optimus alternative in the works.

It's called BACON and is muxless.

Plus, no OpenGL on the dedicated card.

2011-06-16 Thread Eric Appleman
