[Bug 1589605] Re: evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory
Hi @seb128 , I have tried disabling my three online Google accounts and the subprocess disappears altogether. As soon as I re-enable one account with few Google Agenda items, it comes back with ~ 50 Mio. When I enable the main account that has a good many Google Agenda items, the subprocess starts to happily eat away at its 300+ Mio. So the obvious workaround now is to disable GMail and Calendar synchronization in System parameters/Online accounts (see attached screenshot). Concerning the putative memory leak (the subprocess does indeed eat away at more and more memory as time goes by), this would include compiling evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess with MemCheck, wouldn't it? I would need the compile options and other things I'm not very familiar with… :/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589605 Title: evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1589605/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1589605] [NEW] evolution-calendar-factory uses lots of memory
Public bug reported: As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile installs) by several users, including desktop installs, evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case). This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or other). Another user on my system has much fewer Google Agendas than me and her memory usage of evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess is less, but still close to 100 Mio. There have been random crashes of the process, mostly directly upon login, always caused by addressing memory out of range. There used to be a workaround by invoking the process a second time, which caused it to exit more or less gracefully. This is not the case anymore in 16.04. Unfortunately, searching Google leads to the bug #1342123 which concerns "Canonical System Image", and several users have replied even though it does not only concern mobile installs, which is not immediately self-evident when you are not aware what "Canonical System Image" stands for… ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Incomplete ** Affects: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: evolution memory ** Description changed: As filed under bug #1342123 (under Canonical System Image, i.e. for mobile installs) by several users, including desktop installs, evolution-calendar-factory (previsouly in 14.04) then evolution-calendar-factory-subprocess (in 16.04) run using several hundreds of megabytes of memory (~ 300 Mio in my case). - This might have to do with having lots of linked calendars (Google Agenda or other). @penalvch OK, tried running the latest daily-live xenial. Tried opening several Firefox windows and tabs with my Google Drive documents and other windows. A workaround : install Jaunty, then upgrade to Karmic. This of course won't work if you really want to install UNR (which I believe doesn't exist for Jaunty), but at least SquashFS didn't spill its guts all over me with Jaunty. Whoever is in developing (I would love to help had I the time and energy): something happened between Jaunty and Karmic as far as SquashFS is concerned. On my Asus 1008HA netbook, installing or running live 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 works fine with a USB stick, but Karmic won't go live because of SquashFS errors. Whatever works! [Bug 428632] Re: Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem)
A little better, but still not working. For some strange reason, after trying the above-mentioned commands, I get usb-creator 0.1.8 (go figure). Anyway, using a standard i386 ISO image on my USB stick works a little better: I get the "please wait" cursor, then the Ubuntu splash screen. But instead of going into a session, the screen reverts to the "please wait" cursor, then back to the splash screen, then back to the cursor, then nothing. Ctrl-Alt-F1 shows again a bunch of SQUASHFS errors. Again, I tried disabling AHCI, tried ide=nodma, acpi=off, etc. Various changes happen, but it always ends up with SQUASHFS erros. To sum things up: usb-creator 0.1.8 gets a little further than the standard Karmic version, but we don't get a session going. -- Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 428632] Re: Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem)
After looking around, I have found what may be a workaround (although I am unable to test it at present): the problem may come from the version of usb-creator in Karmic. By reverting to the 0.1.10 version, things seem to work for most users. I found the information (in French) at http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=355414 I will try this as soon as possible and comment on it. This is what I will try : $ sudo apt-get --purge remove usb-creator-* $ wget http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/u/usb-creator/usb-creator_0.1.10_all.deb $ sudo dpkg -i usb-creator_0.1.10_all.deb -- Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 428632] Re: Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem)
I should add that I tried removing AHCI, also tried noacpi and ide=nodma (and various combinations of these) but the errors persist. -- Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 428632] Re: Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem)
Same here trying to boot Karmic i386 standard (not Netbook Remix) on an Asus Eee PC 1008AH from a USB device. Everything goes fine until the system tries to launch X, at which point SQUASHFS errors pop up followed by end-request, I/O errors and what not. Only way to reboot is the so- called "emergency" reboot by pressing Ctrl-Alt-PrtScrn-B. -- Karmic boot fails (end_request) on Targa 1016 (MSI U120 oem) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for setting the importance to "High" as this could be a wonderful tool if it were reliable. As it stands, one should not rely entirely upon it. But I'm sure things will get better as soon as notifications are fixed. I was able to fix the issue of multiple entries of fglrx in DKMS by following the steps in the following page: http://doc.ubuntu- fr.org/ati.run Basically, you delete all instances of fglrx and you re-install the ati drivers. -- fglrx: Multiple versions in DKMS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 303148] Re: fglrx: Multiple versions in DKMS
Exact same problem here with Intrepid while updating to kernel 2.6.27-9-generic 64 bits on an Acer computer with an Athlon64/Opteron and an ATI RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series] graphics card. Since the update, Ubuntu us functioning in low graphics mode. fglrxinfo reports "BadRequest". I unfortunately do not know where I can find the error message that appeared during the update as posted above in the initial message by toffyrn, but I recall it was the same : "Multiple versions in DKMS.
