(In reply to Matias De lellis from comment #26) Hi, Your description seems correct. Eric? Ping.. =) The commit where the bug is introduced would be this: https://github.com/xfce-mirror/xfdesktop/commit/ f8fc72957dda162d7d310831494a336da849a6c Tomorrow I try reverting this commit. Regards, Thanks for all!. Matias Yeah, I'm thinking the issue it the icons have their locations set and queued in the XfdesktopFileIconManager's xfdesktop_file_icon_manager_add_icon but not getting updated when the screen size change happens. It's probably easier to remove that queue and let the icon view handle that placement. [Bug 1388946]
We're hitting DBUS's reply timeout. We'll have to find a way to perform the call without a timeout to fix this. The code in question is in: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/tree/src/xfdesktop-file-utils.c#n691 which calls xfdesktop_file_manager_proxy_rename_file_async There's a dbus_g_proxy_call_with_timeout http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-glib/dbus-glib-DBusGProxy.html#dbus-g-proxy-call-with-timeout But the timeout is an int representing milliseconds which only gets up to 32 seconds (unless my math is off). (In reply to Samuli Suominen from comment #30) (In reply to Eric Koegel from comment #29) In xfsm_shutdown_try_suspend the logic is: SystemD ? use LoginD suspend Upower 0.99 ? use Upower suspend Otherwise lock the screen and call pkexec xfsm-shutdown-helper --suspend http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-session/tree/xfce4-session/xfsm-shutdown. c#n312 Same for hibernate. Does pkaction --action-id org.xfce.session.xfsm-shutdown-helper -v return anything? I've been testing with a system that has consolekit + upower git master (it calls itself 0.99.2). Or is this for systems without polkit installed (or polkit-gobject-1 which is used for the fallback instead of sudo)? Just trying to figure out where it's gone wrong so we can fix it. [Bug 1358482]
First, there's no need to run xfdesktop with sudo. You'll get the session warning because you aren't logged in as root so there's no session running for it. From the stack trace it, the only xfdesktop call in that stack is xfdesktop_application_run (), which is located here: http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/tree/src/xfdesktop-application.c#n773 It's really hard for me to get that wrong! :) Is there anyway you can do a stack trace with the debug symbols installed? Maybe that will provide more detail to this bug. http://docs.xfce.org/contribute/bugs/start#backtraces May be of some help setting your system up for it. There's quite a few warning messages but luckily most of them have nothing to do with xfdesktop (seems to be vlc and libindicator don't get along well). GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_get_uint: assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_UINT (value)' failed is interesting, maybe try running: xfdesktop --quit; xfdesktop --g-fatal-warnings If that warning message comes up then xfdesktop will crash, the backtrace from that may help pinpoint why that happens, but note that it probably won't help resolve this crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1358482 Title: xfdesktop crashed with SIGSEGV in XScreenCount() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1358482/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hmhm, so this one completely ignores logind? Is it really an improvement wrt. the runtime detection patch? - The hope is that this path will be used if the logind running check fails (i.e. FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Gentoo, Slackware, etc). So if you're using systemd this patch is nice but not useful. (In reply to Eric Koegel from comment #20) Created attachment 5541 [details] Suspend/hibernate upower 0.99 (no logind) So this version makes upower optional but still uses the shutdown helper. A couple of notes: - OpenBSD supports hibernation via /usr/sbin/ZZZ or /usr/sbin/apm -Z - on FreeBSD you might want to call /usr/sbin/acpiconf -s 3 for suspend for consistency, /usr/sbin/zzz still supports APM but I doubt there is any APM-supporting hardware left - on FreeBSD you can check for suspend/hibernate support by looking at the hw.acpi.supported_sleep_state property through the sysctl API, see sysctl(3)[1] and acpi(4)[2] [1] http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=sysctlsektion=3apropos=0manpath=FreeBSD+10.0-stable [2] http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=acpiapropos=0sektion=4manpath=FreeBSD+10.0-stablearch=defaultformat=html Also the long term plan still is to use a DBus-actiavted helper instead of sudo? Where should this live, both xfce4-session and xfce4-power-manager need to make use of it but either one depending on the other would probably not be nice. People run Xfce without xfpm and and xfpm is used outside Xfce. -- Thanks for all the info and links! I've hopefully got all that in there, but let me know if I've got it wrong. My idea for the Dbus helper is actually to write a daemon to provide some of the logind API, as in: PowerOff, Reboot, Suspend, Hibernate, HybridSleep, the Can stuff (like CanPowerOff), Inhibit, and the PrepareForShutdown, PrepareForSleep signals. This way other applications outside of xfce can use it too and without having to adapt to yet another API since they'll be similar. But it may take me some time which is why I wrote this patch. -- (In reply to Eric Koegel from comment #20) Created attachment 5541 [details] Suspend/hibernate upower 0.99 (no logind) So this version makes upower optional but still uses the shutdown helper. The patch is still missing bunch of #ifdef UPOWER lines: xfsm-upower.c:24:20: fatal error: upower.h: No such file or directory And when you add #ifdef UPOWER around that #include upower.h, the same file still has code without #ifdef's: xfsm-upower.c:304:22: error: missing binary operator before token ( Please try the patch with a system that doesn't have upower headers installed, and with --disable-upower Thanks! Although I think it would be a good thing not to rely on logind, please do not extend this crude and ugly sudo hack that BSD and Solaris users have to put up with, but replace xfsm-shutdown-helper with a small DBus service and use PolicyKit to authorize access to shutdown/suspend methods. xfsm-shutdown-helper should just go away, PolicyKit is nowadays available even on the BSDs and Solaris. Do you want the AKA amigamagic part? Most people seem to just use their name. You can also do the git add/commit stuff to format the patch header how you like and I'll push that to master :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307251 Title: xfdesktop doesn't save the arrangement of desktop icons after a resolution change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1307251/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1307251]
Created attachment 5439 Fix icon position saving on resolution change So I got the time to actually test the patch out and it works great, thanks. I turned it into a full git patch, so instead of doing: git diff ~/fix-for-bug-1234.patch you can do: git add -u git commit git format-patch -1 Those commands will 1) stage your changes, 2) commit them (and allow you to add a header and get credit for your work), and then 3) pull the patch out so it can be added to xfdesktop's code directly. This may be helpful if you write more patches for git based projects in the future. If ypu're ok with the header I put on your patch, I'll commit it to xfdesktop. Thanks again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307251 Title: xfdesktop doesn't save the arrangement of desktop icons after a resolution change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1307251/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1307251]
Thanks for writing a patch for this! A quick note: xfdesktop_move_all_cached_icons_to_desktop(XfdesktopIconView * { #ifdef ENABLE_FILE_ICONS GList *l, *leftovers = NULL; XfdesktopFileIconManager *fmanager = NULL; TRACE(entering); if(XFDESKTOP_IS_FILE_ICON_MANAGER(icon_view-priv-manager)) fmanager = XFDESKTOP_FILE_ICON_MANAGER(icon_view-priv- if(fmanager == NULL) return; +xfdesktop_file_icon_save(fmanager); If we add the save function there you won't need the if check. I don't forsee any issues with your patch, but I won't have time to fully test this patch until the weekend, I just wanted to provide some quick feedback. If you're ok with my proposed change, either you or I can turn the diff into a git formatted patch for inclusion into xfdesktop. http://docs.xfce.org/contribute/dev/git/start provides info and links if you've never worked with git before and want to.
[Bug 1295614]
mcipub, your log only shows: ==25967== LEAK SUMMARY: ==25967==definitely lost: 8,976 bytes in 145 blocks ==25967==indirectly lost: 130,362 bytes in 136 blocks ==25967== possibly lost: 43,384 bytes in 656 blocks Which isn't too bad. There's a lot of leaks from GTK/Glib that will never get fixed, which does make it harder to make sure xfdesktop itself isn't leaking. You can see the Glib bug report starting from 2001 here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64096 Anyway, since the big leak you were seeing appears to be in the Ubuntu patched version of xfdesktop I'm closing this bug report. If that gets fixed and you still see a leak in xfdesktop, by all means open another report and we'll track it down. https://wiki.gnome.org/Valgrind points to some supperssion files the gnome people wrote to filter out a lot of the known leaks, in case you do find more leaks. That will cut down on the file size of the valgrind log. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295614 Title: xfdesktop leaking memory on wallpaper change (ubuntu 14.04 with xfce) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1295614/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1294209]
Created attachment 5401 Use GIO directly for delete/trash operations xfdesktop uses Thunar's dbus for trash/delete so I'm not sure why that error pops up, however since the operation doesn't really need a popup window showing the operations progress I wrote a patch to use GIO's built-in functions directly. Just an FYI, this bug isn't specific to xfdesktop. [Bug 496354] Re: amixer doesn't seem to unmute audio
I've seen that toggling mute with ALSA (amixer) can leave PulseAudio in a muted state and the only way to unmute it is to run 'pactl set-sink- mute $CARDS 1' where $CARDS is the index of your audio sink (you can try to replace it with 0 or 1). I've modified a simple script that you can bind to the XF86AudioMute key to toggle mute. It will toggle mute for all the sinks present which usually isn't an issue. The directions for the key binding in the script are for XFCE (I use Xubuntu) so yours may be in another location. Let me know if this helps. ** Attachment added: Bash script to toggle mute in PulseAudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/496354/+attachment/2579811/+files/pavolume.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496354 Title: amixer doesn't seem to unmute audio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/496354/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
