[Bug 1771768] Re: Can't rename files on a random basis (18.04)

Yeah, I have seen something like that indeed.
Couldn't reproduce either at the time because of the randomness.

[Bug 1768565] Re: pdfsam crashes at launch (MATE 18.04)

2018-05-03 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Looks like the issue is known on github.

This comment contains a workaround:
https://github.com/torakiki/pdfsam/issues/220#issuecomment-386129933

Has to do with the default java version being used. pdfsam expects 8 but
default is 11.

[Bug 1767020] [NEW] French language keyboard layout selection _randomly_ fails

2018-04-25 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Public bug reported:

When starting the installer in French language, when getting to the Keyboard
Layout Selection the layout appears to randomly fail to set.
By random I mean I haven't been able to determine a sequence of steps that
either always triggers this failure, or a sequence that never does.

The Correct Layout is selected by default in both lists (left and right)
but is not actually in effect when testing in the input field.

Note this is possibly due to a conflict in the MATE desktop, I don't
have the expertise to determine whether that's the case or not.

[Bug 1735961] Re: Cannot upgrade ubuntu mate 16.04

2017-12-05 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Hello
Thank you for your report.
It looks like the reason for the failure to upgrade is that you are holding
back packages.
Do you remember having set a hold on some software (through synaptic for
instance)?
If you don't, the cause might be due to a repository installation, since the
Software Boutique allows for installation of software from third party
repositories.
In that case I would recommend removing one by one the software installed
through the boutique, to try and identify the one that is causing this.

[Bug 1728881] [NEW] Cursor invisible due to wrong color when renaming files in caja

2017-10-31 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Public bug reported:

Style Ubuntu-MATE-Dark

On Artful, when you select a file in Caja then hit F2 to rename, then
try to navigate in the filename using the left-right arrows, the cursor
position is impossible to make out due to the cursor being white on a
white background.

[Bug 1724453] [NEW] Pluma sometimes looses the ability to order tabs acrros multiple pluma windows

2017-10-17 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Public bug reported:

I don't have a clear path to reproduce but this has been happening for some
times.
I've been hit by this in 16.04.

The bug is kind of random, at least I've no clue what could be
triggering this weird state.

Basically sometimes control of tabs get lost, and you can't:

- Right click on a tab, usually this would drop a context menu with "Move to
new window" option
- Move a tab to another Pluma window

The ability to move to a new window still exists through the menu
Document -> Move to new window, and using that still works as expected.

[Bug 1719908] Re: Keyboard step - Keyboard layout not applied when layout is selected

So, weird: got hit by this on my second install of Ubuntu MATE Artful
i386, on the first install I left the install language as English and
there was no problem selecting my layout after that, on this second
install I started the installer in French and the problem showed up.

[Bug 1700930] Re: Default action policy for "Security Updates" changed between 14.04 and 16.04

2017-09-13 Thread Etienne Papegnies
So, errata. Turns out I was wrong too.

I met @kirkland Dustin Kirkland at ubuncon-europe last week end and we
talked about this.

It turns out this change IS official policy and is advertised here:

https://insights.ubuntu.com/2016/12/08/ubuntu-16-04-lts-security-a-comprehensive-overview/
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Features

I still feel this was somewhat under reported and that the classic media
sources that cover Ubuntu have dropped the ball big time but I can't
fault Ubuntu for that so I'm closing this issue.

I'll just have to remember to turn this off on any new install or mention it to
the machine's owner and explain the possible consequences.

After downloading your video from youtube using youtube-dl, I can't
reproduce this issue in vlc: the whole video show up fine.

Can you please test playback using a different video player such as

[Bug 1714723] Re: questioning lack of updates thus whether installation option was ignored

2017-09-04 Thread Etienne Papegnies
I can confirm that this parameter seems to be ignored.
I've recently witnessed this on 17.10, and have previously seen this happening
on Xenial and Zesty.
Steps to reproduce are easy:

- Create a new virtual machine in virtualbox with all default options
(including networking)
- Proceed to install the system
- Monitor network usage

You'll notice a large amount of data is downloaded during install.

[Bug 1713984] Re: started raise network interfaces - times out

I am affected by this on Ubuntu MATE 17.10.

systemd-analyze blame shows:

Seriously what the hell.
Holding up boot until the network comes up?

Maybe it makes sense in a server setting, but this should never happen
for Desktop versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1133477] Re: [SRU] cut-n-paste move files got stuck forever

2017-08-18 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Ubuntu MATE 16.04.3

Reproduced the issue in caja using the test case described by tsimonq2.
Installed gvfs/1.28.2-1ubuntu1~16.04.2 (gvfs/xenial-proposed)
Ran killall caja to reload caja and its components.
Attempted to reproduce the bug after reload: could not reproduce the bug.

The proposed package fixes the bug.

[Bug 1708766] [NEW] mate-control-center windows always get raised when any other window is raised

2017-08-04 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu MATE 17.04 and 17.10 :

Open Firefox, A terminal and any other program you want, then open also the
sound settings.
Then hit CTRL + ALT + D to hide all windows, after that, use ALT + TAB to go
through the window list and select your terminal window, and release.

Expected behavior: only the terminal should be un-minimized.

Actual behavior: the terminal and the sound settings window are un-
minimized.

If you open other settings windows from the control center, those
windows are raised as well.

Not sure if the fault lies in Marco or m-c-c, but the bug does not
happen when using Compiz instead of Marco.

[Bug 1708067] Re: error message said I wouldnt be able to boot Ubuntu

2017-08-02 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Can you please give more information about the system?
If I'm reading your logs right it seems it was an attempt at a dual-boot
install / upgrade.
It also seems there was a network failure during the install process.

Sure, but in that case the panel preferences UI should block the user
from reducing size further. I've checked and it does that in Xenial. The
hard limit to panel width seems to be 17px.
