Sorry to tell you, but support for your card has been dropped aeons ago
and I don't think ATI plans to bring back support. Even the Windows

[Bug 284408] Re: r3xx Hardware does not work with fglrx [EPR#257839]

2009-03-18 Thread F-3582
That would be nice, but unfortunately impossible because of the
previously mentioned incompatibility with XServer 1.6 which will be
introduced in Ubuntu 9.04.

Didn't I read somewhere that AMD had intended to keep a legacy branch
that supposedly was to be updated every three months? What happened to
those plans?

[Bug 72053] Audio files encoded with FAAC falsely recognized as video

2006-11-16 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: faac

I tried everything, but the result stays the same: Whenever I encode an
M4A file with FAAC it gets recognized as a video file by Nautilus. M4As
encoded by iTunes, on the other hand, are recognized correctly.

It's not much of a problem, my iPod can read them, but it's still
somehow irritating.

The settings I usually use for FAAC:

faac -q 100 -m 4

Also trying the -w option won't help. Any ideas?

The emerald-theme-pack package just installed some default themes for

[Bug 151226] Synaptic recommends libsexymm2, which is useless (missing Perl bindings)

2007-10-10 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: checkgmail

The problem here is: Checkgmail depends on Gtk2::Sexy in order to make
links clickable.

Synaptic tells me that Checkgmail recommends installing libsexymm2 which
would be the right choice here, however Checkgmail also needs the
appropriate Perl bindings in order to actually work with it.

So, the solution for this would be making Checkgmail recommend the
libsexy2 Perl bindings instead, which would have to be included into
Ubuntu, because there's no package, yet.

[Bug 145260] Gutsy: WLAN via Network-Manager lacks long-term stability

2007-09-26 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ever since I upgraded to Gutsy (fresh Tribe 5 install, by the way, just
in case you wondered) wireless networking started going weird, got fixed
somehow just to show even stranger issues. I'll report some of them
seperately.

First of all, I use an on-board IPW2200 WLAN adaptor which connects to a
Linksys WRT54G most of the time. I didn't get the chance to test it on
different setups, yet.

The main issue at the moment is the general instability of my connection
causing loss of signal and having to reconnect to the AP. Most of the
time this goes without much trouble, however, sometimes it keeps trying
to re-connect until the Network-Manager Daemon itself shuts down
removing the nm-applet from the notification area, even though the
process is still visible in the gnome-system-monitor. Unfortunately this
has always happened while I'm was away from my laptop and I can't tell
what happened before.

Fortunately there is a log which I'll attach:

[Bug 145725] Gutsy: Switching to fullscreen in Totem and having wobbly windows enabled produces a glitch

2007-09-27 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

First of all, I use the latest version of Compiz
(1:0.5.2+git20070918-0ubuntu3) and the open source ati driver
(1:6.7.193-1ubuntu1) which enables me to run Compiz via AIGLX. Now, the
following problem occurs to me:

When switching to fullscreen in Totem while having Compiz enabled with
wobbly windows activated the bottom gnome panel is left visible. That's
pretty much it, but in my opinion this is a little annoying. You can
work around this simply by deactivating wobbly windows or Compiz
entirely, but it'd be nice if it worked with wobbly windows, as well.

By the way, Totem seems to be the only player affected by this, because
all the others I tested (MPlayer, VLC) don't create a new window for
rendering fullscreen video.

[Bug 153072] Focused windows get blurry when dodge effect is enabled

2007-10-15 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I've been noticing this for a while, already:

If you put a window on top of another one causing the former top window
to perform a dodge, the contents will get blurry, as soon as you bring
it to the top again. The interesting thing is that the contents that
were hidden underneath the top windo don't get blurred. This is probably
a little difficult to understand, so I'm gonna attach a screenshot.

What I did was put Opera on top of Amarok, then selecting Amarok which
made Opera move aside. As soon as I focus on Opera again, the stuff that
wasn't covered by the Amarok window gets blurry.

This glitch will only happen if the dodge effect is enabled for focusing
windows. Of course it happens with all different types of applications, not
just Qt apps. And it doesn't just affect text - it's just most obvious there.

[Bug 140476] MPlayer always downsamples AC-3 streams to two channels in Gutsy

2007-09-17 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

Whenever playing a video with AC-3 surround sound on MPlayer, I only get
the left and right channels. This happens solely with AC-3 audio while
other codecs that support 5.1 encoding are completely unaffected (the
famous 6_channel_id.wav targets all my speakers, but switches the
RearLeftRight/CenterLFE channels). When opening a video with AC-3
encoded sound, I get the following:

Forced audio codec: mad
Opening audio decoder: [liba52] AC3 decoding with liba52
Using SSE optimized IMDCT transform
Using MMX optimized resampler
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/16.67% (ratio: 32000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [a52] afm: liba52 (AC3-liba52)

Note the "AUDIO..." line. When playing other 5.1 encoded media it says:

Forced audio codec: mad
Opening audio decoder: [pcm] Uncompressed PCM audio decoder
AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 6 ch, s16le, 4233.6 kbit/100.00% (ratio: 529200->529200)

Meanwhile I switched to Hardy and managed to break the Radeon driver on

[Bug 192154] [NEW] [Hardy] VLC has huge audio delay in ALSA mode, sometimes locks Pulseaudio

2008-02-15 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

I'd like to report the following:

In Hardy the included version of VLC (0.8.6.release.d-0ubuntu3) has big
problems at the moment, which seem to be caused by the latest update in
Pulseaudio (dunno if it was the latest Ubuntu patch version or 0.9.9
altogether).

Anyway, when playing a video using the default sound output module (I
suppose that VLC), there is a five second delay between video and audio.
Sometimes, when I close VLC immediately after the sound has started
playing, VLC closes correctly, but the last sample cached, loops
indefinitely, causing Gnome to become almost completely unusable
(Terminal can't be displayed, most buttons on the panel lock the same up
when being pressed and many other things). Usually the only way of
recovering this is restarting my computer.

The interesting thing is that VLC doesn't show this in OSS mode.

[Bug 192161] [NEW] [Hardy] Rhythmbox doesn't recognize correctly when I exit visualization via Esc key

2008-02-15 Thread F-3582

Just go into Fullscreen with your visualization and exit with the Esc
key. Rhythmbox will still show "Fullscreen" in the "Mode" drop-down
menu.

[Bug 192225] [NEW] [Hardy] Rhythmbox keyboard commands don't work when visualization is displayed in full-screen

[Bug 192229] [NEW] [Hardy] Using built-in keyboard commands to control volume makes lists behave weird

2008-02-15 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When using Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down to adjust playback volume or Ctrl+Left
and Ctrl+Right which don't have any use in Rhythmbox it makes a dotted
rectangle appear in the list you last worked with (Sidebar, Playlist,
Artist selection, Album selection) which moves according to the arrow
key you press.

This is confusing and definitely not intended behaviour, especially not
in the Playlist field, because that rectangle only uses a small fraction
of the "selected" tab. You can even scroll through your list using those
keys.

[Bug 192392] [NEW] Please add support for the Medion MD1 NBC remote

2008-02-16 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

There is a lircd.conf at
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Medion_MD1_NBC which might be of use.

switched places, many buttons mapped to keyboard letter keys, and others
simply not mapped at all).

Thanks in advance.

No, I didn't assign them. You can find those short cuts on the right
side of "Control->Increase/Decrease Volume". I would have made a
screenshot, but Ubuntu doesn't let me make screenshots when a pull-down

However, I made a screenshot of the result.

[Bug 181057] Re: [hardy] "Del"-key doesn't work on Acer Extensa laptops

2008-02-18 Thread F-3582
As I said, I use a Medion MD 42200. However, it seems like they share a
lot with those Acer laptops. Another theory might be that my keyboard is
dying. I'll check that against my Gutsy CD. As I said, the keys not
working are LeftArrow, DownArrow, PgDown, Backspace, Delete and Return.
However, Backspace and Return do work if pressed together with Shift
while all the others work with Ctrl pressed.

By the way: This happens in GRUB already.

[Bug 189406] [NEW] [Hardy] Update Manager doesn't display package versions anymore

[Bug 189761] Re: Wrong localised keyboard layout

2008-02-08 Thread F-3582
The problem is apparently that Gnome isn't able to override the keyboard
settings in your xorg.conf anymore. In earlier and more stable versions
Gnome asked whether to use the X settings or the custom Gnome settings.
This ain't the case, anymore.

For a quick fix, just edit the settings in your xorg.conf.

Furthermore, the weather applet tries to access a non-existant
"Localization XML Database" when clicking Preferences. Looks like these
two are somehow connected.

Looks like the applet isn't supposed to do anything, yet ;)

Anyway, I'll carry my bug over to gweatherapplet. Someone close this.

[Bug 184659] Weather applet cannot access its own location database.

2008-01-20 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

The weather applet is unusable, because it is unable to find its
location database (Location.xml). Trying to reinstall it doesn't help
even though the file is listed as installed. Probably just a path typo
or something. Anyway, without that file the applet is pretty much
useless, because you cannot select any city without it.

The interesting thing is that it was formerly able to at least display
the weather of my location (it still complained that it couldn't find
its database) until I removed it and re-added it to the panel.

[Bug 185698] [NEW] Please port this to Hardy

2008-01-24 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-2.95

Hello.

I just upgraded to Hardy the other day and had to discover that epsxe
(www.epsxe.com) had stopped working. After some searching I found out
that the file libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 was missing from my system which
was needed to run one of the sound plugins, libSPUEternal.so. Some more
searching revealed that this particular file was once inside the package
libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 which isn't included in Hardy aymore.

Unfortunately it is impossible to recompile libSPUEternal.so, because of
its closed-source nature (being built in 2003) and the project being
long dead. Nevertheless its emulation accuracy and sound quality is
still unmatched and it would be a shame to lose the ability to use it.

So please re-include at least the library I was talking about into
Hardy.

Thanks in advance

Hmm...

I tested it and apparently you are right. It fails to build from source.
However, it seems that at least the package libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 is
binary compatible to Hardy, so it would be sufficient for most
applications affected by this to copy/paste that one package to the
Hardy repos.

[Bug 179732] Libsexy is missing Perl bindings, please include them

2008-01-01 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Hello,

there are Perl apps like Checkgmail which are able to use libsexy for
some extended functionality. Checkgmail, for example, can display
clickable links via libsexy. Unfortunately neither Debian nor Ubuntu
seem to provide the Perl bindings necessary.

Luckily the process of building such a package is quite easy, all you
need is:

dh-make-perl
libsexy-dev

With those packages (and their dependencies) installed, type the
following:

# dh-make-perl --build --cpan Gtk2::Sexy

The resulting .deb package - in my case libgtk2-sexy-
perl_0.02-1_i386.deb - will provide the necessary Perl bindings for
libsexy.

Of course you can run dh-make-perl without the --build parameter for
creating a source package meeting the Debian/Ubuntu standards.

[Bug 182439] libSDL.so shouldn't be inside libsdl1.2-dev

2008-01-12 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

>From my humble understanding installing a foo-dev package shouldn't be
necessary unless you want to build something that needs to compiled
against foo, should it?

There is at least one application/library - libspuEternal (a sound
plugin for various Playstation emulators) - which tries to access
libSDL.so, if you want to use the SDL framework as sound output.
Unfortunately libSDL.so is inside libsdl1.2-dev and not
libsdl1.2debian-* and therefore spuEternal will fail to recognize SDL,
if you don't know that. Since it spuEternal comes pre-compiled there's a
chance that you never installed libsdl1.2-dev, at all.

[Bug 208579] Re: VLC not using PulseAudio by default

2008-03-31 Thread F-3582
Good. Then I'll give my two cents about this:

Right now VLC is plain unusable when installed in Hardy, because it uses
ALSA output by default which is seriously broken in a PulseAudio
environment. It even leads to almost-complete X11 lockups.

However, installing vlc-plugin-pulse fixes all that. And if there's no
PulseAudio available, it will fall back to ALSA. I don't see why there
should be any regressions in making VLC depend on that package, because
the way it is now, VLC doesn't work at all.

[Bug 195473] [NEW] Rhythmbox launches (and relaunches) all by itself on weird occasions

2008-02-25 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

First of all, I use Hardy which includes Rhythmbox version
0.11.4-0ubuntu6 at the time I am writing this.

The problem is this:

Something seems to be listening to DBus or something and invoking
Rhythmbox every time the name Rhythmbox appears on it. That's my theory.
The easiest way to reproduce this behaviour is creating a file called
"rhythmbox.txt" and opening it with Gedit. This will cause Rhythmbox to
launch and relaunch if closed, until you close that particular Gedit
window.

This issue is really annoying, especially if you try to debug Rhythmbox
with Gdb, but Rhythmbox always starts before Gdb can invoke it (this is
another one of those occasions)!

[Bug 201406] [NEW] Totem-mozilla always overrides VLC plugin in Firefox

2008-03-12 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

It seems that totem-mozilla (2.22.0-0ubuntu1) can now identify as the
vlc plugin for Firefox. Which is nice if you don't want to install that
VLC plugin separately.

However, if you do want to use the VLC plugin for content that request
it (e.g. http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/content/9602?inPopup=true) Totem
will always override it, even if it is installed.

There should be some routine checking for the presence of that VLC
plugin (might also affect the Realplayer plugin, because Totem handles
that, as well) and disabling its VLC-emulating capabilities, if a native
VLC plugin is found. Because if it's there, there has to be a reason for
it...

Someone should package that plugin for inclusion into Ubuntu, then. At

[Bug 196417] Re: vlc pulseaudio support

2008-03-31 Thread F-3582
Nice to see it working, but wouldnt it be a better idea to install this
plugin by default?

At the moment a novice user who heard about the "Just Works"
capabilities of Ubuntu would have difficulties getting VLC to work like
it used to on Windows, because Pulseaudio is installed by default in
Ubuntu and apparently breaks the ALSA module enabled by default in VLC
leading to almost complete system lockups once you close VLC and try to
do anything with the Gnome panel.

So please make VLC DEPEND on vlc-plugin-pulse.

[Bug 250630] [NEW] Prevu aborts building certain packages that compiled perfectly fine

2008-07-21 Thread F-3582
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: prevu

I encountered this while trying to backport two packages: Zsnes and
GStreamer. Both gave me the following error after compiling:

dpkg-deb: ignoring 1 warnings about the control file(s)
dpkg-deb: building package `zsnes' in
`../zsnes_1.510-2.1ubuntu1~8.04prevu1_i386.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges >../zsnes_1.510-2.1ubuntu1~8.04prevu1_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: not including original source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: binary and diff upload (original source NOT included)
Copying back the cached apt archive contents
 -> unmounting /var/cache/prevu/src/927 filesystem
 -> unmounting /var/cache/prevu/hardy-debs filesystem
 -> unmounting dev/pts filesystem
 -> unmounting proc filesystem
 -> cleaning the build env
-> removing directory /var/cache/prevu/builds/1061 and its subdirectories

Prevu Error: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted:
'/var/cache/prevu/hardy-debs/zsnes_1.510-2.1ubuntu1~8.04prevu1_i386.deb'
Prevu encountered an error performing your build. The actual
error message may be further up in the scrollback before pbuilder
exited. Please look for a failed dependency or compile error in
the full output.

Other packages could be built just fine and it looks like these two
didn't show any problems at all. Except for Prevu refusing to build
them.

I might add that building those two packages takes a lot of time. The
root password might have expired during that time which could explain
the 'Operation not permitted' error message.

Oh, and I'm on Hardy using the latest version of Prevu.

[Bug 189406] Re: [Hardy] Update Manager doesn't display package versions anymore

2008-06-01 Thread F-3582
Interesting idea, indeed. Novice users won't probably know much about
the packages being upgraded, anyway.

However, let me humbly disagree with you on one aspect: Synaptic is a
tool for installing packages. As an "advanced" user it would be too much
of a hassle to open it everytime I want to install a hundred and thirty
updates. Just to see which version has been updated to which. Update
Manager did a very good job in displaying sufficient information for
people like myself who would like to see what exactly was going to
happen.

If you don't wanna have novice users see all this, because they could
get confused, please dumb the entire interface down and make the old and
"advanced" appearance optional. Yes, optional. Please.

Another solution would be making Update Manager at least indicate a new
upstream release.

Yes, glitch-free gets disabled automatically, if your setup doesnt
support it. You need at least ALSA 1.0.17 and Linux 2.6.27 (or 2.6.26
with certain patched applied). The OSS backend doesnt support glitch-
free at all.
