[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2016-01-20 Thread FMaz
Well until I can install an ISO of Ubuntu and, right out the box (ie.:
on the live CD), see that this problem no longer exist without requiring
any intervention from the end-user (such as guessing I was supposed to
install a software to get a basic OS functionnality to work as
expected), this bug is not to be marked as resolved.

This include copy/pasting any kind of content from and to any kind of
software.

If what ever software can fully resolve the issue, it should be included
in the distribution and activated by default. Until then, it is a waste
of time to ask for each user to install something themself.

[Bug 1047384] Re: System Encryption Password set before setting keyboard locale

2016-01-09 Thread FMaz
pitrou:

No, the main concern is not that it will force people to use simpler
passwords, but that people will install, without being aware of the
layout issue, then on first boot be locked out, not understanding why,
and having to re-install or re-format loosing all their data.

Which is what happened to me at first, and one of the reason why I
completely stopped to use Linux (and it used to be my main OS for years)

[Bug 1224673] [NEW] wireless at install

2013-09-12 Thread FMaz
Public bug reported:

On a default Thinkpad X61S, I tried to install Xubuntu 13.10 beta 1. At
the step where we are prompted to select the wireless connection, I
choose mine ( a WEP-2 secured connection ), and I hit connect.

A second later, I get a crash report window, asking me to report a
crash. ( ironical, since I'm not connected ), and immediately after I
get a Unrecoverable error telling me the live version will be started to
help me investigate.

Live version connect without problem (once you find how to add a
wireless connection, which far from intuitive BTW)

Also note that I did the exact same installation process using the
Xubuntu 13.4 CD without any problem; the wireless connection gets
connected, so I can hit back, check the Download update box, and carry
on. 13.4 installed OK.

I'd be happy to use my live key to help with debugging, but I'll need exact
command as I'm not a linux technical guru. :)

Good job, Xubuntu is ... relieving compared to Ubuntu :)

Maybe that's totally offtopic, but aside from Windows, how other *nix
distributions are handling the problem ?

This bug is going on for a really long time now, and I think every time
the problem is looked at, the qualified people say it's a design
problem. Maybe we should check somewhere else to have some fresh idea ?

my 2 cents.

[Bug 641300] Re: Text Entry Boxes in Firefox sometimes get stuck in an endless Select-All making typing in them impossible

2010-11-09 Thread FMaz
This bug affect me too.
The weird part is that it doesn't happen in all textbox.

If it was a key that was lock, like SHIFT+HOME or CTRL+A, it would happen in
all textboxes.
But I can type really good this repport, and I got a user field in another tab
that is in trouble.

Also, their's absolutly no javascript associated with that user field. (I know,
it's one of my website)
It also happen on other places, like the other days, I could type my message in
GMail.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x64, with the default Firefox installation. I also have
the Firebug extension installed, but currently innactive.
My computer is a Dell Zino HD, with a Microsoft Natural Keyboard.

I've also experienced the problem on my laptop (thinkpad x61s) with
Ubuntu 10.04 x32.

Ho yeah, it seem to happen in textbox (input type=field), but I've also
experienced the trouble in the GMail message area, so I guess that's a
textarea. So I don't think it's the autocomplete, as the auto-complete
should be triggered for textarea... But at the same time GMail is way
too much dynamic, so they could trigger autocomplete function for syntax
correction inside a textarea too. Well, I don't have any clue, but
their's a real bug here.

Also, right now I had the trouble with the user field as I said. But the
interesting part is that I have 2 tabs openned: local (localhost), and
remote. Both field on both version are having the problem at the exact
same time. And other textfields in the same page are OK.

IMPORTANT:

So the problem seem to be associated with the name of the field, or it's ID.
I've also tried to:
- delete all the autocomplete values going in the preference, privacy, and
delete the Form Search History ONLY
- double click in the field and delete all the suggestion with the DEL key on
hightlighted items
... and the problem disapeared in the problematic field, without even
refreshing the tab.

having a clue here...

2010-02-23 Thread FMaz
Ok folks, their is 3 things that can resume this 200+ messages thread:
1) Many people want a bug fix, not a workarround;
2) The bug is too complex to be fixed by users, and will need a -- if not
many-- really good developper to be fixed;
3) It seems like it's a X / xorg bug, not a Ubuntu or Ubuntu application bug.

Concerning the last point, you should know that their is an issue repport
openned on the X / xorg bug tracker system here:
=
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25220
=

If anyone have any usefull informations to add about this bug, it would
be better to do it there instead of here.

Re: [Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2010-02-19 Thread FMaz
I do agree that this bug is an epic fail.
I do agree with the comment saying that we are users, not developpers.
(On this, I would also add that is really hard to join the developper
community, it's not user friendly at all.)

But I must disagree about the comment comparing Linux to Mac OS.
When people are not paid to do something, their are differences. The
difference is even bigger if the projet doesn't have the support of
the market ( we must do our own drivers for some material)

The work involved in linux is bigger because other OS doesn't
have to do this work... and their employe are motivated by their
pay.

That said, clipboard is an Epic failure and should be the priority #1 for
any future version, really.

2010-02-19 Thread FMaz
@Jackflap:

No matter the development model, by it's nature, the project tend to a goal:
Be an operating system.

Having no real clipboard that really works is a failure to this goal.

2010/2/19 Jackflap derizio...@gmail.com

 Look it's open-source. It's an open-source development model. That's how
 it works.

Why do you have to rant and rave on a technical bugtracker about a
development model that clearly doesnt satisfy your expectations?

Perhaps open-source just isn't for you.

I just notice that I've Nominated this bug for Lucid... Now that I see that I'm

nominations are (as it's not explained, or hidden somewhere that I'm unable to

Do nominations are votes for the distribution we would like the bug to be fixed

2010-02-19 Thread FMaz
Linking a bug report can be done with two click, and launchpad
has a good documentation.

Personnaly, I didn't even know that. Maybe it's easy when you know how to
do, but the interface is not intuitive for doing so.

Users will not read pages of documentation to report a bug. They already
must do an extra action over their regular work to report a bug, reading a
documentation should not be an obligation if the interface was good.

As for my question with the nominate for release, I really think I have done
something wrong with this, and I still don't know what exactly it is, and
how to remove it.

Lauchpad have a really bad user interace for the normal user (maybe
fonctionnal for debuggers, but NOT intuitive for users), but this point is
off the topic.

2010/2/19 Saïvann Carignan oxmo...@gmail.com

Jackflap : As said previously, Canonical and Mark Shuttleworth are not
in charge of xserver-xorg development. Ubuntu is a distribution.
Canonical can contribute to bugfixes to upstream projects such as
xserver-xorg, but drastic changes of concept needs to be done by the
upstream projects themselves, by qualified developers.

If people start to pollute Ayatana discussions with this unrelated
issue, there will be no benefit either for Ayatana and this bug report.
Instead, invite every people who suffer from this bug to click the
Affect me too button. That will give visibility to this bug to
 Canonical.

If this bug is not fixed yet, it's because it is not a easy bug, not
because xserver-xorg or Canonical is not aware of this issue. However as
long as you only refer to ubuntu bug report, xserver-xorg developers
don't get any attention to this issue. And anyway, a bug report is not
the right place to discuss, it only makes thing more difficult for
developers as bug reports are polluted, therefore we should not be
surprise that they stop using it, and work silently.

FUSA applet, notifications, simplescan, upstart are Canonical projects,
 not xserver-xorg.

FMaz : Linking a bug report can be done with two click, and launchpad
has a good documentation. That only means that in 5 years, nobody took
care to open and link a bug at xserver-xorg, users and developers.

That's so true...

I think a bug should be raised of priority when it start to flood the bug
tracker database with tons of duplicates complains.

Actually, my nightmare are about me, learning C+ at a suffisent level to
submit a patch. IMO, that should also be considered as a good reason to
increase the bug priority.

This is crazy, this bug has 45 people that take time to go to LP and click
 affects-me-too,
it has a dozen of duplicates,
it is one of most reported bug I seen, and yet it is just Wishlist
 priority?!

Ubuntu fails to provide most basic functionality expected from a desktop

[Bug 513525] [NEW] If you read this text, your display server doesn't work properly.

2010-01-27 Thread FMaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Note: The title is a free-traduction, as I use a French version of
Ubuntu 9.10.

I just discovered a tray icon in my top menu bar. It looks like a dialog
window with 4 red diagonal arrows inside of it, all pointing a
different corner of the dialog box. (see attachment for screenshot)

When I right click on the icons: nothing.
When I double click on it: nothing.
When I keep my mouse over it:

This message could be translated to something like:
---
Session active, non-inhibited, screen inactive.

If you read this text, your display server doesn't work properly. Please report
it to your distributor.
Check out
http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2009/08/17/gnome-power-manager-and-blanking-removal-of-bodges/
 for more information.
---

I've tried to reply to the blog post, but it's closed for comments, so
I'm reporting the trouble here.

As it seem to be a screen matter, here are few details that could be important:
- I have a Thinkpad X61s.
- Sometime, when the power cord is disconnected and I close the panel: the
computer doesn't go in sleep mode. When I don't remark it, my battery is
drained and the computer seem to shutdown the same way as a desktop would when
a power lost occur.

Note: My skill are not that good, I had really a hard time to find how
to report this bug (someone should definitely re-think the lauchpad
design to be user-friendly), so don't expect me to be able to patch my
kernel and try other wild things like that. ;) (I'll be happy to try,
but you'll have to be really clear and answer a bunch of dumb questions)

2009-10-12 Thread FMaz

Ok, here is the situation:
1) I received a .doc file from someone.
2) I openned it and saved a copy (still in .doc) to be able to write in the
document.
3) I inserted a bunch of image in the text, adding caption to it.
3.1) Some but not all image have been cropped
3.2) All images have been resized
3.3) All images are imported from 300dpi 12MP images.
4) I saved the document a couple of time: no problem
5) I exported a PDF file: the PDF is perfect
6) I closed the document.
7) I open the .doc document again, all the images disapeared, but the captions
are still written.

I've joined a file, were you can see the PDF generated before I closed
