[Bug 1380076] Re: Can't suspend on Surface Pro 3

2014-12-04 Thread Fastguy
What about supporting the real thing, ie connected standby or
InstantGO function. Isn't it yet supported by linux kernel? Without
this and without real S3 state, linux won't be really useful on a SP3
I'm afraid.

[Bug 993298] Re: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts

2014-04-21 Thread Fastguy
I'm on Ubuntu 14.04. This is affecting me. I'm sharing my wifi connection. The
problem is that there's a server that has to be queried from a DNS outside of
my normal one, but since dnsmasq is using default DNS servers set by dhcp, the
devices behind this shared wifi connection can't connect to that specific
server.
 I need to add a line to dnsmasq configuration, such as
server=/this.specific.server/specific.dns.ip
I found no way to do it and even trying to send a message with dbus did not
work (for me). Probably I could not sort it out.

I have the specific server ip hardcoded in the /etc/hosts file. If
dnsmasq respected the /etc/hosts file, then the hosts behind the shared
wifi connection could have obtained the right ip address for the server.

It's very strange to hardcode dnsmasq parameters into the C code rather
than leaving it out to some configuration file.

[Bug 993298] Re: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts

2014-04-21 Thread Fastguy
OK, I managed to send a dbus signal to set specific dns for a specific domain
but this signal went to the initial dnsmasq started when system booted up.
So the dnsmasq started by the wifi sharing connection has no dbus interface and
it doesn't read the /etc/hosts. It has totally static hardcoded configuration.

The only way to overcome this issue was the very dirty solution of
putting dnsmasq in a wrapper script to remove the --no-hosts parameter
:(

I'm seeing this error and crash in my freshly booted Lenovo T400,

plays but again very slowly.

[Bug 1070652] Re: [regression] [Quantal] can't browse to gvfs share

2013-04-06 Thread Fastguy
I confirm this bug. And it is not a duplicate of #1069255.

To reproduce:
1) Share the drive from Windows where your pagefile resides (ie c:)
2) Browse it and mount it with Thunar.
3) Try to list the contents of directory with Thunar, you will receive an error
that pagefile.sys resource busy. You won't be able to see folder contents.
normal ls on the /run/user/username/gvfs/mounted_location/ works.

[Bug 1091183] [NEW] davfs2 can't work with Sharepoint servers with NTLM authentication

2012-12-17 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to connect the Sharepoint Servers at work which use NTLM
authentication. I get the following response:

Could not authenticate to server: ignored NTLM challenge, ignoring empty
Negotiate continuation, rejected Basic challenge

It seems davfs2 is not compiled with NTLM support when it's compiled with
libneon27-gnutls.
The following bug report on Debian explains it better than me:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=668968

Can we switch back to compiling with libneon27 instead?

Thanks

[Bug 376244] [NEW] lirc does not work with avermedia m115 card remote

2009-05-13 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

Hi,

I have an Avermedia M115 mini-pci-e TV card on an Acer Aspire 5652. The
card has an infrared device which seems to work partially. I can get
some of the keys like 1-2-3...9-OK-VolUP,VolDown,Mute etc.

System is Ubuntu 9.04, newly installed. (i disabled the saa7134 module
as it's buggy at the moment)

On the other hand, most of the special keys on the IR remote don't work, I
receive such messages in dmesg output:
 atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0x9e on
isa0060/serio0).
 atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e01e keycode' to make it known.

I have the following device in the lshal output, which seems to be
related to the tv card:

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_0'
  info.addons.singleton = {'hald-addon-input'} (string list)
  info.callouts.add = {'debian-setup-keyboard'} (string list)
  info.capabilities = {'input', 'input.keys', 'button'} (string list)
  info.category = 'input'  (string)
  info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer'  (string)
  info.product = 'Video Bus'  (string)
  info.subsystem = 'input'  (string)
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_0'
(string)
  input.device = '/dev/input/event6'  (string)
  input.product = 'Video Bus'  (string)
  input.x11_driver = 'evdev'  (string)
  input.xkb.layout = 'us'  (string)
  input.xkb.model = 'pc105'  (string)
  input.xkb.rules = 'evdev'  (string)
  linux.device_file = '/dev/input/event6'  (string)
  linux.hotplug_type = 2  (0x2)  (int)
  linux.subsystem = 'input'  (string)
  linux.sysfs_path =
'/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/device:01/device:02/input/input6/event6'
  (string)

cat /dev/input/event6 is always silent, except for the already
recognized keys, which do write on the console:

r...@enterprise:/# cat /dev/input/event6
1123560
1234567890
^C

I guess the first step is to get the kernel recognize those keys. But if
it's going to be manual, that would be a hard work due to a total of 48
keys on the remote (some working).

Note: no input devices are configured in xorg.conf, nvidia driver is
loaded to do it automatically. Xorg.0.log shows nothing about the remote
getting configured.

Any clues?

[Bug 204960] Re: [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken

2008-10-26 Thread Fastguy
Hi Ari,

Thanks for your response. This M115 is in fact a card based on SAA7134
with an additional cx2028 tuner chip, but it doesn't register it's IR
as described in the workaround. It's running with the latest kernel
(2.6.27) and as card number 138 for the saa7134 module.

But I'll try as you suggested. Thanks for the pointer, I started to
believe that it's a driver problem at first stage.

[Bug 204960] Re: [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken

2008-10-24 Thread Fastguy
Hi,

I have an Avermedia M115 mini-pci-e TV card on an Acer Aspire 5652. The
card has an infrared device which is exactly working as described in the
original bug report. I can get some of the keys like 1-2-3-OK etc. on
the login screen, terminal window etc.

System is a Mythbuntu 8.10 beta 1 updated to latest packages as of Oct
24, 2008.

Nevertheless, most of the keys on the IR remote don't work, I receive such
messages in dmesg:
[100603.834359] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0x9e on
isa0060/serio0).
[100603.834375] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e01e keycode' to make it known.

I also see that my lshal reports something else, so the HAL solution
here does not work. Here's the interesting part below, also stange that
I have not one but two devices, event7 and event8 on the video bus:

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_1'
info.addons.singleton = {'hald-addon-input'} (string list)

  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_1'
 (string)
  input.device = '/dev/input/event8'  (string)
  input.product = 'Video Bus'  (string)
  input.x11_driver = 'evdev'  (string)
input.xkb.layout = 'us'  (string)
  input.xkb.model = 'pc105'  (string)
  input.xkb.rules = 'evdev'  (string)
  linux.device_file = '/dev/input/event8'  (string)

  linux.sysfs_path =
'/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/device:06/input/input8/event8'
(string)

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_0'
info.addons.singleton = {'hald-addon-input'} (string list)
  info.callouts.add = {'debian-setup-keyboard'} (string list)
  info.capabilities = {'input', 'input.keys', 'button'} (string list)
info.category = 'input'  (string)

  input.device = '/dev/input/event7'  (string)
  input.product = 'Video Bus'  (string)
  input.x11_driver = 'evdev'  (string)
input.xkb.layout = 'us'  (string)
  input.xkb.model = 'pc105'  (string)
  input.xkb.rules = 'evdev'  (string)
  linux.device_file = '/dev/input/event7'  (string)
  linux.hotplug_type = 2  (0x2)  (int)
  linux.subsystem = 'input'  (string)
  linux.sysfs_path =
'/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/device:01/device:02/input/input7/event7'
  (string)

Changing the /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/20thirdparty/lirc.fdi file
contents to match the upper mentioned device silences the compaints of
lircd and inputlircd about the exclusive access, but does not make the
remote work.

cat /dev/input/event7 and cat /dev/input/event8 and irw are always
silent, even for the already recognized keys..,

I guess the first step is to get the kernel recognize those keys. But if
it's going to be manual, that would be a hard work due to a total of 48

I confirm similar behaviour, it happens when I leave my computer alone

Pulseaudio is running as system-wide-deamon, at realtime priority. When
I stop and restart the pulseaudio service, problem dissapears, until I
leave it alone for a long time.

[Bug 242502] Re: Can't get rid of nolisten tcp in kdmrc

2008-06-24 Thread Fastguy
Hi,

I understand. However, my display forwarding is on LAN, even on the same
hardware from virtualized guests to host. Therefore, even though ssh -Y
works, using it doesn't make sense as it adds overhead to the
communication make things slow down.

The main issue is that, to generalize, the change that I make in
/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc (local server start options) is not taken into
account somehow when the genkdmconfig script is run from /etc/init.d/kdm
start command.

[Bug 242502] [NEW] Can't get rid of nolisten tcp in kdmrc

2008-06-23 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

I use kdm as my login manager, my system is Ubuntu 8.05 with Xfce
installed. gnome and kde packages are minimal.

I'm trying to run my X server without the -nolisten tcp options.
Whatever I do in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc AND /var/run/kdm/kdmrc (???), it
ends up firing the X with -nolisten tcp. Isn't it possible to start X
without this option? I need network access to my X server...

Thanks,

Fast

[Bug 218574] Re: Virtio devices from libvirt

2008-06-05 Thread Fastguy
Hi,

I use Hardy 8.04 up-to-date system. However, I don't see any virtio
option within the Virt-Manager GUI when creating a guest VM.

What should I do to have it? My guest is not Ubuntu, but I know that it
has virtio modules built-in in its 2.6.24 kernel, just as Ubuntu.

Thanks,

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

Hi,

I'm trying to setup XP on my Gutsy system with Xen 3.1 and 2.6.22-11 xen
kernel, on a HVM DomU, viewing through an SDL or VNC window. PV linux
domains (domU) work nicely. The system is updated daily with apt-get.
The problem still exists as of 19/9/2007.

Description of Problem:
With Normal Mouse Driver in xorg.conf:
A few minutes (or seconds) after I start the HVM and go through the setup
instructions, the mouse cursor in Dom0 suddenly goes to top left corner of the
screen and is stuck there. No movement, no up down, no left right. No matter
what I do, can't move it. Only the buttons continue to work. Some other
symptoms:

- I can switch to my second X server by CTRL-ALT-F8 (running on vt8) and use
the mouse, but after few seconds (minutes), it gets stuck also and even locks
up the system.
- I can kill the X server by CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE and restart it, mouse comes
back working on GDM/KDM screen.
- I can logout using the keyboard. Then mouse comes back working on GDM/KDM
logon screen.
- If I start the HVM DomU, or if it's still running in the background, the
mouse locks up again after some time.
- I'm using xorg nv driver, tried vesa driver but no change.
- Tried doing dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and made all defaults, no change.

With evdev mouse driver in xorg.conf:
If I use evdev driver instead of the standard mouse driver in Xorg.conf, then
the mouse is still stuck on the left of the screen, but I can move the cursor
up and down on 1 axis only.
- I can move the cursor right towards screen area, only if I'm very very
careful to move very very slowly, 1 millimeter at a time. If I do any sudden
movement or move 2 mm instead of 1 mm at a time, the mouse goes back to the
left side of the screen. Start from the beginning.

With this bug, the HVM DomU's are not usable, unless you want to
sacrifice your mouse control.

Would this problem be because of xorg or something about xen?

Thanks for any insight,

Best regards,

Emre

[Bug 140963] Re: Xen Dom0 Mouse Gets Stuck on Left Side of Screen, 2.6.22-11-xen

2007-09-19 Thread Fastguy
Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the comment. I disabled mouse accelaration by xset m 0 and rerun
my hvm domu. Result:
- The mouse is not stuck (with evdev driver), but xorg freezez altogether,
can't even do CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE
- With normal mouse driver, mouse goes to top left and stuck there, then xorg
locks up after some time...
- Seems like a memory leak?

[Bug 138926] Re: 2.6.22-11-xen kernel does not have xenfb and xenkbd modules

2007-09-15 Thread Fastguy
Hi, in my domU config file, the only interesting sections are:
extra = 'xencons=ttyS0 console=ttyS0 video=xenfb'
vfb = [ 'type=sdl' ]

however, i can only get the console in the SDL window, not yet the full
X (i used to get it on older kernels though).

[Bug 139864] Can't Compile Driver with Xen 2.6.22-11-xen kernel

2007-09-15 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-headers-2.6.22-11-xen

Hi,

I can't compile the patched 9631, 9755 or 100.14.10 nvidia drivers under xen
kernel 2.6.22-11-xen. I know that you may tell this is anyway unsupported by
nvidia, nevertheless I would like to say that the same drivers version 9755 and
100.14.10,
- compiles fine under kernel 2.6.2-11-generic (non-xen kernel)
- compiles fine under kernel 2.6.20-100-generic (a dom0 xen kernel)

However, stops compilation with the following error in 2.6.22-11-xen:

*** Unable to determine the target kernel version. ***

It happens with all versions of the driver, therefore I started to think
that there's something missing in the linux-headers-2.6.22-11-xen
package.

In other Dom0 xen kernel, such as 2.6.20-100-generic, they compile fine
giving the output nvidia.ko loadable module.

Thanks,

Emre

2007-09-14 Thread Fastguy
Hi,

I confirm that it's built into the kernel as Chuck said before. You need
to put fbdev in the driver section your xorg.conf in order to load it.

However, I can't get xorg to load with some strange errors. Then SDL (or
VNC) window appears with the tty1 login prompt.

2007-09-12 Thread Fastguy
Hi Chuck,

OK the module is built-in, but why am I not able to modprobe it?

voyager ~ # modprobe xenfb
FATAL: Module xenfb not found.
voyager ~ # modprobe xenxkb
FATAL: Module xenxkb not found.
voyager ~ # modprobe fbdev
FATAL: Module fbdev not found.

Guess I'm missing something. In my previous installations, even if I
didn't use xenfb in my xorg.conf, as soon as I modprobe it, the SDL
window popped up in front of me even though it's blank.

I'll try again this evening.

Marsu42, do you have the xenfb module in your xorg.conf?

Hi,

I can't find the xenfb and xenkbd paravirtual framebuffer related
modules in the 2.6.22-11-xen kernel. These modules are used to have a
functioning X server inside a DomU, where you can see the output in an

The source code of these modules shall be inside the source code of xen.

2007-09-05 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-10-xen

Hi,

I'm currently using Gutsy latest packages (as of Sept 5, 2007) and have
XEN installed. The XEN kernel is 2.6.22-10-xen and Xen version (seems to
be) 3.1. My DomU crashes during boot with the attached messages on the
console. The messages include some sentences in Turkish during boot of
my DomU, but just skip that part, nothing related to the crash.

FYI, the exact same system, works flawlessly with XEN 3.1, kernel xen-
image-2.6.20-100-generic (Dom0 and DomU) which is downloaded from Sdriks
Feisty repositories (http://cedric.gabriello.fr/ubuntu/)

Hi,

This message, XENBUS: Device with no driver: device/vfb/0 doesn't mean that
there's no FB support. This is fired when Dom0 start the vfb backends while the
frontends (the modules) are not loaded in the DomU. When you load the modules
in the DomU, you should have this on DomU's console :

2007-05-11 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-1-xen

Hi,

Just installed 2.6.22-1-xen kernel. There are two problems for this package:
1) The description on page
http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/gutsy/base/linux-image-2.6.22-1-xen mentiones
that this package shall be installed by using linux-xen metapackage, which
doesn't exist in Gutsy.
2) The package, even though installed with all other necessary tools (with
ubuntu-xen-desktop metapackage), does not boot as Dom0, but successfully boots
as DomU or normal kernel. It gives the error: ELF start or entries are out of
bounds. Hipervisor - Kernel mismatch? Or the comment about booting as Dom0 is
wrong? (I've never seen any kernel above 2.6.20 which is able to boot as Dom0).

[Bug 90265] Re: w83627ehf driver does not detect the chip on Asus P5B-E

2007-03-07 Thread Fastguy
Hi Mark,

You're right. the name of the machine is Xen but the kernel is stock
Ubuntu Feisty kernel. I will use this machine as Dom0 for my future Xen
install.

In fact, I already have Xen 3.0.4 with 2.6.19-4 kernel on this machine,
but I didn't mention it to keep things simple. Nevertheless, I have the
exact same problem for that kernel also. (I'm using Cedric's
repositories for higher version of Xen, i.e.
http://cedric.gabriello.fr/ubuntu/ , as original feisty repo has 3.0.3
which is not good for me.

A good place to look for this issue is:
http://lists.lm-sensors.org/pipermail/lm-sensors/2007-February/018798.html

Best regards,

Emre

[Bug 90265] w83627ehf driver does not detect the chip on Asus P5B-E

2007-03-06 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm running the latest packages of Ubuntu-Feisty as of March 6th, 2007. Kernel
is the default one of this date:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc# uname -a
Linux xen 2.6.20-9-generic #2 SMP Mon Feb 26 03:01:44 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

I installed lm_sensors package to get some info about what's going on on
my harfware. I then used sensors-detect to see which chips I have.
Here's the summary output.

==
Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done.
Just press ENTER to continue:

Driver `eeprom' (should be inserted):
  Detects correctly:
  * Bus `SMBus I801 adapter at 0400'
Busdriver `i2c-i801', I2C address 0x50
Chip `eeprom' (confidence: 6)
  * Bus `SMBus I801 adapter at 0400'
Busdriver `i2c-i801', I2C address 0x52
Chip `eeprom' (confidence: 6)

  EEPROMs are *NOT* sensors! They are data storage chips commonly
  found on memory modules (SPD), in monitors (EDID), or in some
  laptops, for example.

Driver `w83627ehf' (should be inserted):
  Detects correctly:
  * ISA bus address 0x0290 (Busdriver `i2c-isa')
Chip `Winbond W83627DHG Super IO Sensors' (confidence: 9)

I will now generate the commands needed to load the required modules.
Just press ENTER to continue:

To make the sensors modules behave correctly, add these lines to
/etc/modules:

#cut here
# I2C adapter drivers
i2c-i801
# Chip drivers
eeprom
w83627ehf
#cut here

Do you want to add these lines to /etc/modules automatically? (yes/NO)
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc#
===

Then I used modprobe to probe the modules:

==
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc# modprobe i2c-i801
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc# modprobe eeprom
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc# modprobe w83627ehf
FATAL: Error inserting w83627ehf
(/lib/modules/2.6.20-9-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/w83627ehf.ko): No such
device
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc#
==

As you see, the w83627ehf module should have found the onboard sensor
chip, but it doesn't. The end result is that I don't have any sensor
info.

I read in some newsgroups that there's a patch for this driver to work
OK on P5B's, which was in 2.6.18 mm tree of the kernel. I don't know if
it was merged into this 2.6.20 ubuntu kernel. Please let me know if I'm
missing something here.

Best regards,

Emre

[Bug 89773] Cannot Create initrd image for kernel 2.6.19

2007-03-04 Thread Fastguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Hi,

I have a Ubuntu Feisty latest beta on my system with 2.6.20-9-generic
kernel from Ubuntu Archives (as of March 4, 2007)

I built the latest Xen from mercurial repository on this system,
everything went fairly well after including bcc, -fno-stack-protector
tricks etc.

Now I'm trying to build an initrd image, as I have LVM and RAID on my
disks.

Here's the problem:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/boot/xen# depmod 2.6.18-xen
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/boot/xen# mkinitramfs -o /boot/xen/initrd-2.6.18-xen.img
2.6.18-xen
W: udev hook script requires at least kernel version 2.6.19
W: not generating requested initramfs for kernel 2.6.18-xen

So mkinitramfs complains that my udev scripts need at least kernel
2.6.19.

I guess this might be a bug that prevents building initrd images for
older kernels (unless I'm missing something here).

Note: Order of events:
- Perform apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade in running system on March 4,
2007, without rebooting. The system was last updated on Feb 24, 2007 as far as
I can remember.
- compile xen
- build initrd image (successful!!!)
- Try to boot Xen dom0. (unsuccessful, complains that root file system can't be
mounted). Grub Menu.lst is correct.
- Boot back to 2.6.20-9-generic.
- try to create a new initrd image with the upper mentioned procedure. FAIL.

Best regards,

Emre

[Bug 81915] Re: [feisty] hald adds/removes same device many times a second causing high loads and extremally slow performance

2007-02-12 Thread Fastguy
I am not able to continue the installation from the Alternate CD because
of this bug. The live CD installs fine though.

When I kill udev, the errors vanish, but then the process cannot
continue.

[Bug 81915] Re: [feisty] hald adds/removes same device many times a second causing high loads and extremally slow performance

2007-02-07 Thread Fastguy
Hi Again,

Unfortunately my problem occurs on the setup phase from the alternate
installation CD (latest daily build of feisty). Whether I do a command
line installation or a text mode, the installation gets stuck after
trying to recognize disk drives.

I then have this error message about PCIC Probe all over the place and
cannot continue the installation.

The LiveCD boots and starts installation well.

Regards,

Fast

[Bug 81915] Re: [feisty] hald adds/removes same device many times a second causing high loads and extremally slow performance

2007-02-05 Thread Fastguy
I confirm this behaviour. I can see the same messages repeating on
console (#4 i guess). The installation is stuck and does not go forward.

Config: Core2Duo E6300 2gig ram 2x250G sata disk, asus p5b-e board.
