I've tested (accidentaly) on 4 different servers. Three of them have the same CPU of the bug report. Sorry for the double comment. I'm not sure if this is a fault of fwupd or the fact that lenovo released a fault firmware; anyway I think Ubuntu should not push firmware updates along normal system updates. Public bug reported: On Friday 7 Sep. a bios update was released through ubuntu software center in Ubuntu 18.04. I've attached a screenshot of the update to this bug report. I've applied the update to a Lenovo Thinkpad L560 AND a Lenovo Thinkpad L570 and after rebooting both computers started beeping and they died. Now both laptop shows only a black screen and all the Lenovo suggested procedures to restore the BIOS were unfruitful. Some news: I've tried Ubuntu's 2.6.32 with nouveau driver and it works even if the screen resolution is incorrect. I've tried booting lucid with 2.6.31 kernel and Nvidia drivers (instead of 2.6.32) and the screen worked. I've also tried Debian squeeze with 2.6.32 kernel but with nv drivers and the bug didn't show up. I know debian kernel and ubuntu kernel are slightly different so what is the next step to tracking down this bug? Hi, in my desktop since I've installed karmic (and grub 2) the grub menu never show up during boot. It's automatically boot ubuntu. Luckily ubuntu is my only operating system so it's not a big deal. Today I've updated to Lucid and the grub2 menu still doesn't display, lucid boot automatically but after the new splash screen my monitor turn black and goes to power saving. The pc seem frozen and even the MagicSysrq does'nt work.
