[Bug 71560] Re: Crash information collection depletes resources, clogs up and crashes system
* bin/apport: Limit core dump size to 75% of usable RAM (MemFree+Cached-Writeback). This should avoid trashing people's boxes hard on huge core dumps. Bump dependencies on python-problem-report. Create an expensive, but realistic check for this in test-apport. (LP: #71560) 75%, what is this number based on? On a machine with a little amount of free memory this might still cause the problems. 75% of 2Mb is still a disaster. I would understand something like (Free Ram- XXMb). And if it would be a negative result, don't dump. The 75% fix will work for most, but not for some... [Bug 71493] Re: Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780
The .asoundrc I attached uses softvol to create a master channel. (Normally one can not overwrite the master, but in this case it does work since master controls nothing) It also upmixes to 5.1. The problems lie with the driver, and will not get fixed judging from what upstream has to say about it. [Bug 71493] Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.17-10-generic-di Card: Intel ICH5 Chip: C-Media Electronics CMI9780 kernel: Every version that supports this card I guess, Dapper, Edgy, Feisty all have the problem. Problems: The master channel controls nothing. Muting it, changing volume has no effect on anything. Stereo sound: When only playing in stereo, this problem can be solved by just using PCM to change/mute volume. Surround sound: When playing in 2.1/5.1 configurations, this is a bigger problem. To change sound, one has to individually change multiple channels. In 5.1 I would have to mute PCM, Center, LFE and toggle surround to turn of all sounds. Work arround: For 5.1 I currently use xbindkeys with the following scripts. But the are bound to fail every now and then. mute/unmute sound: amixer sset PCM toggle amixer sset Center toggle amixer sset LFE toggle amixer sset Surround toggle Turn sound up: amixer sset PCM 10+ unmute amixer sset LFE 1.99+ unmute Turn sound down: amixer sset PCM 10- unmute amixer sset LFE 1.99- unmute But because of the nature of amixer, the channels will not always have the same volume. Perhaps a better script can be written. But really the Master channel should just be fixed. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780 https://launchpad.net/bugs/71493 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60326] Re: [edgy] gstreamer, rhythmbox won't read files over smb
Hello. People on the forums using the Feisty repo's report the problem is solved on feisty. Upstream reports that upgrading the lib's solves this problem : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351322 Could a fix be backported to edgy? (Altho I know Edgy might only get security updates). This problem affects more then Rhythmbox as you can see by the duplicate bug reports. It breaks playback for all media (movies/music) for all programs (VLC,Totem,Rhythmbox...) that use remote sources like smb and even ftp I believe. -- [edgy] gstreamer, rhythmbox won't read files over smb https://launchpad.net/bugs/60326 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40732] Re: totem-gstreamer does not support 5.1 surround sound
Perhaps this can help. To get 5.1 playback for everything, I created an .asoundrc in my home dir with: pcm.!default { type plug slave.pcm surround51 slave.channels 6 route_policy duplicate } After that, everything will be in 5.1 , however GStreamer gave heavy ticking in the sound. [Bug 68589] Failed file system check, weird behaviour
Public bug reported: I have a HD rack, sometimes I remove a HD. Ubuntu insists on doing the file checks at boot, of course it mentions that it can't find the partition it wants to check.
