[Bug 134593] System Freeze Tribe 5 Kernel

2007-08-24 Thread finalbeta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic

After upgrading from tribe 4 to 5 my system freezes up about 1 minute after the
log-on screen. Wetter or not I log in.
The previous Kernel 2.6.22.9 still boots the machine fine.

I would give dmesg info. But the system is completely frozen up.
It's a Medion 8083.

[Bug 130530] Re: dpkg: error processing eog (--remove)

2007-08-06 Thread finalbeta
Thank you for your response.

There was an icon of Autopackage software installer (GTK+) in
/usr/share/icons/hicolor.
It's a third party software package manager. I'm not sure why I used it, it was
last used 330 days ago.

After removing the package (thus removing the icon). The problems where fixed.
Thank you for your tip, and sorry for my mess.
I marked this as fix released, but perhaps I should have marked it as Invalid.

I would like to mention that from an end users perspective, they way you tell

VERSION:

Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

Example of a Java Web Start Application:

http://users.telenet.be/greenhouse/foldersync/releases/0.1/foldersync.jnlp

Updating alternatives:
sudo update-alternatives --config javaws
This command does not work, there is no javaws

One can configure sudo update-alternatives --config java
But this doesn't change anything for the browser.

The problem is that the browser doesn't know what to do with the file. Open it
with browse program, or save to disk. (See attached image).
What Firefox should do it simply start Java and let Java ask the user what
should happen.

PS: a jnlp file is just an xml file that should be passed to
/usr/bin/javaws

[Bug 119175] jnlp support in Firefox

2007-06-07 Thread finalbeta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox should know what jnlp files are. (They are Java web start files)

When clicking a jnlp link firefox opens a dialog where I can browse to a

Firefox should know it opens with /usr/bin/javaws

You can't expect end users to know this. It's the same for konqueror

[Bug 71560] Re: Crash information collection depletes resources, clogs up and crashes system

2007-03-30 Thread FiNaLBeTa
  * bin/apport: Limit core dump size to 75% of usable RAM
(MemFree+Cached-Writeback). This should avoid trashing people's boxes hard
on huge core dumps. Bump dependencies on python-problem-report. Create an
expensive, but realistic check for this in test-apport.
(LP: #71560)

75%, what is this number based on? On a machine with a little amount of free
memory this might still cause the problems. 75% of 2Mb is still a disaster.
I would understand something like (Free Ram- XXMb). And if it would be a
negative result, don't dump.

The 75% fix will work for most, but not for some... Sounds like a nasty
fix to me.

[Bug 71493] Re: Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780

2007-03-30 Thread FiNaLBeTa
The .asoundrc I attached uses softvol to create a master channel. (Normally one
can not overwrite the master, but in this case it does work since master
controls nothing)
It also upmixes to 5.1.

The problems lie with the driver, and will not get fixed judging from
what upstream has to say about it.

This solution works, but can't be incorporated into a default Ubuntu in
any normal fashion.

[Bug 91523] Re: [apport] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance()

2007-03-16 Thread FiNaLBeTa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 90934 ***

I've followed your duplicate link to upstream and posted more information there.
(When it happens now, apport doesn't come up, and I don't know how to provide
the information you wish).
However:
I've posted this upstream:

I'm running Nautilus 2.18.0.1, this does not
happen with 2.14.3.

But it is easy to reproduce. Just make a symbolic link pointing to itself.
ln -s bla bla
Nautilus will crash when displaying the folder. I've had others confirming
this.

[Bug 73780] Re: [SRU] kdbus (edgy)

2007-02-16 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Hello, I was reading the motu list today. This topic came up. I ran
kdbus again.

And it works, on the terminal I'm no longer receiving this part of the error:
kio (KService*): WARNING: The desktop entry file
/usr/share/applications/DefaultPlugins.desktop has Type=Link instead of
Application or Service
kio (KService*): WARNING: Invalid Service :
/usr/share/applications/DefaultPlugins.desktop
kio (KSycoca): ERROR: No database available!

So this issue is now fixed for me. (I was the reported that said it was not).
I have no idea why it crashed before. I even rebooted the machine after the

[Bug 57608] Re: Filesystem check forced, lack of information, and takes an houre.

2007-01-26 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Thanks for responding.

I am using the ext2 driver for windows. I never really considered the
consequences of that, that it reverts my partition to ext2. (that is
pretty stupid of me)

Seems this is my own fault and this can be closed.

PS: I upgraded to edgy, removed file checking at X boots, and now it's
less of an issue.

[Bug 72649] Re: Unresponsive windows (Freeze)

2006-12-03 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Just had the issue again. I can not move windows with the mouse.
Alt-F5 did however manage to minimize the application when it happened
(firefox). The I manager to minimize the next window, xchat.
I was then able to minimize/maximize xchat and work in xchat. But I could no
longer use any of the other windows on the desktop. (nor can I open the menu or
can I right click on panels.)

When I used cntr-alt-F5 and then changed back everything worked fine
again. I'll try to do some other things next time it happens.

[Bug 71493] Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780

2006-11-12 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.17-10-generic-di

Card: Intel ICH5
Chip: C-Media Electronics CMI9780
kernel: Every version that supports this card I guess, Dapper, Edgy, Feisty all
have the problem.

Problems:
The master channel controls nothing. Muting it, changing volume has no effect
on anything.

Stereo sound:
When only playing in stereo, this problem can be solved by just using PCM to
change/mute volume.

Surround sound:
When playing in 2.1/5.1 configurations, this is a bigger problem. To change
sound, one has to individually change multiple channels. In 5.1 I would have to
mute PCM, Center, LFE and toggle surround to turn of all sounds.

Work arround:
For 5.1 I currently use xbindkeys with the following scripts. But the are bound
to fail every now and then.

mute/unmute sound: amixer sset PCM toggle amixer sset Center toggle
amixer sset LFE toggle amixer sset Surround toggle
Turn sound up: amixer sset PCM 10+ unmute amixer sset LFE 1.99+ unmute
Turn sound down: amixer sset PCM 10- unmute amixer sset LFE 1.99- unmute

But because of the nature of amixer, the channels will not always have
the same volume. Perhaps a better script can be written. But really the
Master channel should just be fixed.

[Bug 60326] Re: [edgy] gstreamer, rhythmbox won't read files over smb

2006-11-11 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Hello. People on the forums using the Feisty repo's report the problem
is solved on feisty. Upstream reports that upgrading the lib's solves
this problem : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351322

Could a fix be backported to edgy? (Altho I know Edgy might only get
security updates). This problem affects more then Rhythmbox as you can
see by the duplicate bug reports.

It breaks playback for all media (movies/music) for all programs
(VLC,Totem,Rhythmbox...) that use remote sources like smb and even ftp I
believe.

[Bug 40732] Re: totem-gstreamer does not support 5.1 surround sound

2006-11-11 Thread FiNaLBeTa
Perhaps this can help. To get 5.1 playback for everything, I created an
.asoundrc in my home dir with:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm surround51
slave.channels 6
route_policy duplicate
}

After that, everything will be in 5.1 , however GStreamer gave heavy
ticking in the sound. Totem-xine, xine play fine now. (ticking sound was
reported as a bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365429 )

[Bug 63161] Edgy: Alacarte crash

2006-09-30 Thread FiNaLBeTa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 60933 ***

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

Alacarte crashed after creating a new menu item and pasting some info in
the command field. I can't reproduce it. But since I have a bugtrace I'm
posting this anyway.
