[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-04 Thread FiReSTaRT
I just wanted to make a note that I never used Banshee in my life (for
music I use Audacity), so it has nothing directly to do with the bug. I
think it was happening without the menu running, but I can't guarantee
it. I'll turn it off a I've been using Activities and Cairo almost
exclusively. Note on Cairo: I initially reported a duplicate bug way
before installing it, so it's a non-factor.

[Bug 588416] Re: File browser "Open with Phatch" integration is broken

2010-11-10 Thread FiReSTaRT
When I am browsing a directory in Nautilus, select an image or a group of
images, right click, open with phatch photo batch processor, it just crashes
instead of asking for an action. This issue started with Lucid (AMD64) and now
it continues with Maverick. Nautilus integration worked fine with Karmic. When
I open phatch through the Applications menu, it doesn't crash and I can process
an image or multiple images with it.
I am also including the "strace -v -o nautilus.txt nautilus" output, recording
my actions of moving to a folder where I have images and trying to open an
image with phatch. I scrubbed the file so my username got replaced with
"username." Other than that, it's untouched.
I will not include any images because it happens with ANY image ALL the time.

When "stable" has major usability issues, then it might be a good idea
to at least include the unstable release on the side, include warnings
about both ("stable is practically unusable, unstable is great but might
have issues that haven't been found") and give the users a choice.

[Bug 667570] [NEW] When aMSN opens windows to add all of my contacts pop up. Newer versions of the package fixed the issue

2010-10-27 Thread FiReSTaRT
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsn

Why is 0.98.3 still packaged with Maverick? It had the same bug with Lucid,
which was well known to the developers. They fixed it. I compiled 0.99. It
works, without this bug.
The bug is that every time I connect on the MSN network using aMSN, windows to
add all of my contact pop up and I have to click on "Cancel" 50 times. The
solution was to compile straight from source, early into the Lucid days. Just
prepare packages for the newer version and release them.
Compiling this particular package isn't a straight-forward process and it takes
a few tweaks to make it work. I don't mind it, but your typical "like Windows,
but it works" Ubuntu user typically couldn't.

1) Running Maverick AMD64
2) Package version: 0.98.3-2ubuntu1
3) I expected for a newer version to be bundled with Maverick, a newer version
that doesn't give me a popup window to add every contact that I already added
(and I have dozens of contacts)
4) What happened was that Maverick still has the buggy old 0.98.3 where popup
windows for each contact that I already added opens

This is not a huge issue to me. I can deal with it.. But amsn was one of
the main reasons I finally made the switch from Windows and a major draw
for my converts. If it's not working right, you have a major usability
issue.

[Bug 362545] [NEW] HP dv9894ca kernel panic in weak wifi signal areas

2009-04-16 Thread FiReSTaRT
Public bug reported:

-System and kernel info should already be attached by the process, but if you
need anything else, post it up (and how to get it) and I'll be glad to include
it.
-Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03)

Additional info:
-Only happens in weak signal areas. As long as the signal's relatively strong,
there's no danger of panics.
-The network in question is a Cisco Clean Access network, but that may or may
not be relevant as it's the only network that I connect to that may have weak
signal (depending on the area)
-I use the Konqueror for authentication and Firefox for regular browsing
