[Bug 2058842] Re: Grid pattern not aligned with text

2024-05-02 Thread Filippo Bistaffa
Apparently, this is "expected behaviour" according to GNOME's devs
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-text-editor/-/issues/671), even
though it doesn't make much sense to me.

[Bug 1535840] Re: systemd ignoring /etc/modules due to blacklist

Any news about this? it seems all watchdog modules are blacklisted
unless the watchdog daemon is installed and one module is enabled in
/etc/default/watchdog. With basic watchdog functionality already enabled
in systemd shouldn't this be changed to support it?

[Bug 1924852] Re: Selected output device in Sound settings is not persisted across restarts

2021-04-19 Thread Filippo Ghibellini
In my specific case I have two output devices:

1. an audio card integrated in the motherboard
2. and an external microphone that has a monitoring output jack

Each of them results in two selectable options (there's always a second
"Digital Output (S/PDIF)" prefixed one) in the Ubuntu settings for a
total of 4.

After startup the usb microphone is selected as the output device so I
have to switch it to the integrated sound card analog output.

(you can see details about each device in the `pactl list sinks` output
in my "workaround" comment)

Also whenever I connect my guitar amp (also acts as sound output) it is
automatically selected as the active device and disconnecting it results
in the microphone being selected again no matter what I had selected
before connecting the amp.

There is no HDMI involved anywhere.

[Bug 1924852] Re: Selected output device in Sound settings is not persisted across restarts

2021-04-17 Thread Filippo Ghibellini
It seems that whenever you connect a new device it is set as the currently
active one.
I suspect the device selected as active after the restart is simply the last
one to load.

I just tried this with 3 devices:

1. at first have device A and B connected to the computer and have B selected
as active
2. connect new device C
3. I can see C becoming automatically the active device
4. disconnect device C from computer
5. A automatically becomes the active device

all of the above was monitored by having the "Sound" panel of gnome-
control-center opened and watching the "Output" > "Output Device" Combo-
box changing.

[Bug 1924852] [NEW] Selected output device in Sound settings is not persisted across restarts

2021-04-17 Thread Filippo Ghibellini
Public bug reported:

# Introduction

My computer has multiple audio devices, so I had to select the correct
one in the "Sound" section of "Settings". This worked fine, except that
whenever I restart the computer this setting resets to the original one.
Effectively I have to visit the sound settings on each system startup in
order to hear anything.

# How to reproduce

1. have system with multiple audio outputs
2. open sound settings
3. select non-default output device
4. restart computer
5. open sound settings

# Expected result

Selected audio device is the same as the one selected right before
restart.

# Actual result

The active output device is the original default one (i.e. not the one
that we selected).

IMHO there are three big question with bluetooth and PulseAudio:
1. in these days we (probably most of us) are always on web conferencing and we
need good audio quality in both direction, mic and speaker.
Current bluetooth headsets are capable of using Bluetooth Profile HFP 1.6 with
mSBC 16kHz audio encoding, this standard permit high quality voice conferencing
and It was made in 2011...9 year ago.

2. Bluetooth Profile A2DP for listening only (music...) There are a lot of
codec for
high quality listen audio, es. SBC-XQ, aptX-LL, aptX-HD, aptX Voice and
FastStream

3. Support for new version of Bluetooth / Profile. Ex #1 BT 5.3 with LC3
(Low Complexity Communications Coded (LC3)) codec. Ex #2 BT Profile HFP
1.8 with codec selection and Enhanced Voice Recognition Activation.

My two cents

2020-06-29 Thread Filippo Argiolas
@3v1n0

With your ppa fractional scaling works again (I'm almost sure it worked fine in
19.10)
Text rendering is pretty bad at 125%, slightly better at 150%

[Bug 1857459] Re: audio doesn't work

2020-01-04 Thread Hu Filippo
I don't know how to do a kernel bisection, it is the first time that I submit a
bug.
But I have tried 5.3.18 and there aren't any problems, and
5.4.0-050400.201911242031 and output is "dummy".

EDIT: I have installed all the release candidate.
v5.4.0-050400rc2.201910062030 works
v5.4.0-050400rc3.201910181847 doesn't work

tell me if this is enough or if I need to learn how to do a kernel
bisection

thank you

[Bug 1082418] Re: [Fujitsu Lifebook AH532] UEFI firmware locks itself after installing Ubuntu in UEFI mode

2018-04-16 Thread Filippo Falezza
Actually, this crap happened me many times and I was able to solve after
burning a mobo just to figure out what was happening. PLEASE READ
EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!

When the system has not grub installed everything is ok, but after the install
efi is destroyed. The only way to solve it is to jumper the two pins under the
ram, it will reset cmos and efi. Then you have to create a freedos bootable usb
stick with the bios updater on it. Pay attention that 1.x can't be updated to
2.x, so check twice for the exact bios version.
Then flash the bios.

Now reboot the computer. It will automatically check for any bootx64.efi in
Boot folder in the efi partition. If you have something there, it will boot it.
In the case you want to reinstall grub you can, but in order to AVOID TO REPEAT
EVERYTHING just remove the efibootmgr and efivars packages, without them
grub-install won't touch the efi entries.

If you have any questions please ask, maybe i have some news since I am
still trying to add a standard entry as i used to have.

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04) by an insufficient compiler!

2018-03-09 Thread Filippo Molesti
Could we please know when this bug is going to be fixed at last?

If is not uncommon, actually quite common I would say, to have a NVIDIA
graphic card and a more recent version of GCC installed than the one in
the Ubuntu distribution, which is quite old. And then the machine is
broke when the new kernel is installed!

All the fixes in the above risk breaking the machine irreparably. Even
reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch may not work in the long run, if the
bug is not fixed in the new kernel version, because one also need to use
the most recent versions of GCC and thus the problem is bound to
reoccur. And having to keep using kernel 112 also looks quite
unsatisfactorily as a long term solution.

We need the matter to be fixed once and for all.

[Bug 1753062] [NEW] ubuntu bionic beaver dev branch - disappearing mouse cursor, after few secs, when using a usb mouse on dell xps 13 9333

2018-03-03 Thread Filippo Neri
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release:18.04

since upgrading from ubuntu 16.10 to 18.04 (dev branch),
the mouse cursor disappears after a few secs when using an external usb mouse
on a dell xps 13 9333
The notebook also has a touchpad which appears to work correctly.
I can manage to make visible again the mouse cursor by touching the touchpad.
But again if I start using the external mouse after a few secs 60 secs the
mouse cursor disappears again.
This is happening constantly does making difficult to use the external mouse.

Thanks for you attention.
Best regards,
Filippo

[Bug 1740438] Re: Kernel has troule recognizing Corsair Harpoon RGB mouse

2018-01-03 Thread Luigi Filippo Pavan
I'm not sure whether it may be relevant in this context, but there is
unofficial driver support for your mouse: https://github.com/mattanger
/ckb-nex. I don't know if the source is part of the Linux kernel; if
that is the case, just ignore/delete my comment.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-16 Thread Filippo Callegari
Lenovo z50-70 (20354) corrrupted bios, can modify only date and time.
Lastest version of bios allready installed.
I've only tried ubuntu 17.10. My luck is I've installed grub2, so from usb I
can load conf and boot all my operative systems. No way to do something for
rewrite from the laptop.
So, if you can boot the uefi live usb, another workaround is take the disk and
install grub (if you haven't one installed yet), and when you boot the usb
press 'c' key and load the config file for grub.

If anyone have a sane bios image, please dump it and public it, so I'll
try to reflash the image on my bios.

Regards,
Igor

[Bug 1512347] [NEW] invalid sources.list generated from reading apt-setup/local0/repository

2015-11-02 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
Public bug reported:

hi,
it looks like configure_apt from library.sh will add the contents of
apt-setup/local0/repository verbatim to the sources file. This works only if
the repository is prefixed with "deb ", which for apt-setup is optional. Not
using a repository prefixed with "deb" will result in an invalid sources.list
file. See also https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T94177 and

I also notice that, starting from 14.04, there's no seahorse options in
confd. Therefore this option was removed intentionally without keep in
mind security risk.

2015-04-24 18:24 GMT+02:00 Martin Pitt martin.p...@ubuntu.com:

It appears to be a temporary kernel glitch, but can you reproduce this
with sudo apt-get install --reinstall systemd? If so, attaching the
output of journalctl would be appreciated. If this reproduces the
crash, please also copypaste the output of

   sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemd.postinst configure 219-7ubuntu3

 Thanks!

[Bug 1403367] [NEW] package opensc (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: tentata sovrascrittura di /etc/opensc/opensc.conf presente anche nel pacchetto libopensc2 0.12.0-1~corp1~maverick1

2014-12-16 Thread Filippo Carra
Public bug reported:

I faced the error following the guide published at:
http://www.crs.lombardia.it/ds/ccurl/537/296/Manuale%20per%20l'installazione%20e%20la%20configurazione%20del%20Software%20CRS%20per%20Linux%2064bit%20v1.1.pdf

Installation of opensc fails if libopensc2 is installed and it runs smoothly
when the latter isn't.
Although libopensc2 is not automatically selected by the package manager
(synaptic) it seems from the guide that it is recommended, hence why I tried to
install it.

I would say severity of this issue is rather low because it's about
installing a specific software that is required in only one region of
Italy.

[Bug 1369113] Re: Steam game began crashing 2014-09-12 (cross-post Source bugtracker)

2014-11-19 Thread Filippo Scognamiglio
Hello everyone, jumping in here with the same issue (with a QML
application). I just tested backporting that specific commit
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libXext/commit/?id=11aad96bd689d54156064d2e81213dc827a689d1)
to the version currently in launchpad for utopc and it seems to solve
the issue.

I'm asking to the experts here: should I push the code and make a merge
proposal or we should just wait until the new version lands?

[Bug 1097937] Re: Suspension not working on HP Compaq CQ61-110SL

2013-01-11 Thread Luigi Filippo Pavan
I also have the bug report window after rebooting the pc, which contains
lots of - I suppose useful - informations. I can't get a complete
screenshot of it because there aren't dedicated tools for capturing
scrolling windows (and I can't copy/paste the content). See the attached
screenshot (Italian localization), it shows the first rows only. I've
sent the bug, though.

2013-01-11 Thread Luigi Filippo Pavan
I've updated the two files following your instructions described in post
#10. Let me know: maybe, if you do not find the right information, it's
because I have to force the shutdown process by keeping pressed the
dedicated button of the laptop, which doesn't allow Ubuntu to save
syslog and kernlog.log files. Thanks again.

[Bug 1097937] [NEW] Suspension not working on HP Compaq CQ61-110SL

2013-01-09 Thread Luigi Filippo Pavan
Public bug reported:

It seems that the suspension is not compatible with my laptop. I've tried it
with both Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10, even with a clean install of the O.S.
(dual-boot with Windows 7). The computer has a 32-bit architecture.
Behaviour: when resuming from suspension, monitor shows a black screen and,
after some seconds, only the wallpaper (sometimes only the black screen), so
that I have to force the shuting-down process, keeping pressed the shutdown key
of the laptop.
The model of the laptop, as the title says, is: HP Compaq CQ61-110SL. I hope
that community will solve this, because I am only a newbie ;) If you need more
information about this, just ask, thank you.

P.S. I've already tried asking about this problem in Ubuntu forums, but
with no success.

[Bug 690620] Re: package console-tools has conflicts

2012-06-23 Thread Filippo Mazza
On Precise:

Install: libconsole:i386 (0.2.3dbs-65.1ubuntu2, automatic), console-tools:i386
(0.2.3dbs-65.1ubuntu2)
Remove: kbd:i386 (1.15.2-3ubuntu4), ubuntu-minimal:i386 (1.267),
console-setup:i386 (1.70ubuntu5)

This makes the system unusable, i.e. user won't be no more provided
graphical login, tough.

Why this behaviour?
I can provide more info if needed.
