[Bug 352303] [NEW] hal will not start if fdi-cache is corrupted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal I got a crash of my system during a package update. After reboot, the system becomes unusable: keyboard and mouse were disabled. It was not easy to troubleshoot the issue. Finally I discovered that the hal daemon refuses to start because /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache was corrupted (empty file) I had to enter recovery mode and delete /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache to rescue the system. I believe that the hal daemon should not fail when the cache is corrupted. It should rebuild the cache and start normally. r...@jaunty# /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes 12:43:31.890 [I] hald.c:680: hal 0.5.12 12:43:31.891 [I] hald.c:681: using child timeout 250s 12:43:31.891 [I] hald.c:746: Will not daemonize 12:43:31.891 [I] hald_dbus.c:5417: local server is listening at unix:abstract=/var/run/hald/dbus-R4s2k7pUvd,guid=dd582abbff249b3532a28a1649d1f3d3 12:43:31.903 [I] ck-tracker.c:391: got seat '/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Seat1' 12:43:31.905 [I] ck-tracker.c:321: got session '/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1' for seat '/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Seat1' 12:43:31.911 [I] ck-tracker.c:274: Got active state (ACTIVE) and uid 1000 on session '/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1' 12:43:31.912 [I] ck-tracker.c:342: Got all sessions on seat '/org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Seat1' 12:43:31.912 [I] ck-tracker.c:418: Got seats 12:43:31.912 [I] ck-tracker.c:816: Got seats and sessions Runner started - allowed paths are '/usr/lib/hal:/usr/lib/hal/scripts:/usr/bin' 12:43:31.918 [I] hald_runner.c:301: Runner has pid 4368 12:43:31.918 [I] hald_runner.c:182: runner connection is 0x9d104c8 12:43:31.928 [I] mmap_cache.c:274: cache mtime is 1238483551 *** [DIE] mmap_cache.c:di_rules_init():79 : Couldn't mmap file '/var/cache/hald/fdi-cache', errno=22: Invalid argument ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 NonfreeKernelModules: ath_hal Package: hal 0.5.12~rc1+git20090204-0ubuntu4 ProcEnviron: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: hal Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686 ** Affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- hal will not start if fdi-cache is corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 296710] Re: warning: ehci_hcd loaded AFTER uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd
Scott, I still have the problem in initramfs (like reported by Aurius). module-init-tools 3.7~pre9-1 initramfs-tools 0.92bubuntu25 The workaround add ehci_hcd to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules provided by Javier works for me. The workaround MODULES=dep provided by Dimitrio DOES NOT work for me. here is the output of the modalias thing (just in case) : r...@jaunty# for hci in /sys/bus/pci/drivers/?hci_hcd; do echo $hci; cat $hci/*/modalias; done /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd pci:v8086d27CCsv144DsdCA00bc0Csc03i20 /sys/bus/pci/drivers/uhci_hcd pci:v8086d27C8sv144DsdCA00bc0Csc03i00 pci:v8086d27C9sv144DsdCA00bc0Csc03i00 pci:v8086d27CAsv144DsdCA00bc0Csc03i00 pci:v8086d27CBsv144DsdCA00bc0Csc03i00 -- warning: ehci_hcd loaded AFTER uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296710 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Here is a minimal patch for Hardy, against 4.4.2-2ubuntu2. This SRU aims to fix a regression introduced with Hardy. It has low risk, since there's only 3 files touched, no source code: * debian/changelog * debian/patches/series * debian/patches/08_fix_xubuntu_translations.patch The translation patch is minimal. [Bug 139057] Re: Should try given password for next partition
Hi, i had a similar problem on my laptop: * I have 2 encrypted partitions: sda5 and sda6: /dev/sda5 - swap partition /dev/sda6 - mapped to /var (with binding /var/home - /home) * Both partitions use the same password * I use uswsusp for hibernate/resume features * The initramfs step asks me for password at bootup: swap partition only * Later the init script ask me again for the password of the /var partition I think it makes sense to decrypt all filesystem in /etc/crypttab at the initramfs step. Here is the patch I have tested on my laptop: * it decrypts all /etc/crypttab partitions at initramfs stage * it tries to unlock with same password all partitions. * it works both with usplash and with console bootup After doing the changes, execute sudo update-initramfs -u ** Attachment added: patch-cryptroot-initramfs.diff http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15102666/patch-cryptroot-initramfs.diff -- Should try given password for next partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
