2021-06-17 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
7 years later, I have this bug in Hirsute ! (or at least the same symptoms: I
click on a mailto link and a window named “close Thunderbird” appears, with the
message :
“Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you
must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use
a different profile.”

[Bug 1771000] [NEW] do-release-upgrade on a server with encrypted swap does not boot

2018-05-13 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
Public bug reported:

I’ve upgraded a server to bionic beaver, and it couldn’t boot anymore.
Using the “recovery boot” option hanged a long time with the message
"waiting for resume device".

Some googling lead be to the bug #206358, and I deduced that do-release-
upgrade “messed with my swap” (as said by @aldebx on there). This was a
LVM set-up with an encrypted swap, which may explain the bug.

My workaround, form the root login of the recovery mode was the following
1. comment out the RESUME line in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
2. rebuild the initramfs with update-initramfs -u
3. mount the /boot partiton to actually put the initramfs on the correct place

Now the systems boots again, but this problem shouldn’t have happened in
the first place.

[Bug 1005884] Re: texlive-latex3 description should contain name of the included latex packages

2012-05-29 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
@preining: OK, it can be long for other package, and putting all the
.sty files in general is probably too much. But for the specific case,
The MH bundle is not a very clear description. The Debian bug (linked
above) suggest replacing this short sentence by :

mh -- The MH bundle, including breqn, flexisym, xfrac, mathtools,
mathstyle, and empheq

If that is too much/not clear enough, using the first sentence of http
://get-software.net/help/Catalogue/entries/mh.html would be an
improvement, without being a list of .sty style. This would be something
like

mh -- The mh bundle is a series of packages designed to enhance the
appearance of documents containing a lot of math

[Bug 906100] Re: Firefox remained black and white

2012-03-19 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
This just happened to me, with Liferea instead of Firefox : Liferea was
black and white, but responsive, on 11.10. Compiz was taking ~50% of
the CPU, during the same time, I guess to render everything black and
white. It's the 1st time I encountered this bug, and it disappeared
when I killed Liferea (kill -9 was needed).

[Bug 573826] [NEW] revtex4-1 needs texcase.sty

2010-05-02 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
Public bug reported:

When compiling a tex document using revtex4-1 on lucid, I have the

[Bug 290532] Re: firefox keeps crashing WARNING **: Exception in gr::RangeSegment

2009-02-11 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
I've had the same bug, with all the symptoms and others unrelated to
firefox : The numbers (1234567890) where often not selected from the
system font (Linux Libertine) but Charis SIL. The problem was also
visible in notifiactions from liferea and on the character map.

The solution was to remove the recently added pango-graphite package.

so with the Tomboy plug-in activated.

And I confirm this crashes occur with the error message in the bug-
description. Message body length mismatch: 16064 of expected 64291 ...

[Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly when pressing the numlock key

2008-04-30 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
I believe that any work/patches that were done for MacBooks are actually
working fine: Macbook users seem to be happy with the state of the
current kernel as above. The problem seems to only effect users of the
 slim USB keyboards(such as myself).

It also affects me, using a slim USB keyboard on a MacBook

It has been mentioned that the driver(not sure?) should detect whether
the Apple Inc. keyboard is either the Macbook, or USB/External type and
 adapt it's behavior accordingly.

Agreed

For the USB slim keyboard, IMHO, num-lock is not needed at all. There
are no arrows marked on the num-pad and therefore arrow function on the
num-pad is of no use. The num-lock/clear key should definitely *NOT*
change the behavior of the alpha-num keys, as it unfortunately does
currently - this is the specific problem I believe.

With or without numlock, I still want to be able to type numbers on the keypad.
Its only functional key for me is currently the enter key. Not the most useful
one ...

[Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly..

2008-04-29 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
@Edwin Erdmanis

The fn problem is a feature: it mimics the way the keyboard works under OS X.
For me eject, volume and brightness keys work perfectly. (Hardy on a MacBook)

@Fabrice
The @# problem is solved for me in gnome by selecting the appropriate option
(«Swap keycodes of two keys when Mac keyboards are misdetected by kernel» in
the keyboard options menu.
However, the «Numeric keypad keys work as with Mac» oprion doesn't work for me.

@Ryan Lortie

Just for the record : the /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode tric
works, but disables the keypad and the fn functions altogether.
