[Bug 786114] [NEW] liferea does not get focus when selected from messaging menu

2011-05-21 Thread Franz Dietzmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: liferea

When selecting liferea from the messaging menu, the window opens, but
does not get the focus. This means that the global menu displayed is
still that of the previously active application. This is especially
annoying if you try to close the application, as it will close whatever
was active before.

How to reproduce:
1. Have e.g. Firefox open and maximized
2. Select Liferea from Messaging Menu --> Window opens
3. Click close button in Global Menu --> Firefox closes, Liferea stays open

[Bug 658672] Re: nozomi module completly crashes ubuntu after 3G connection is established

2010-10-13 Thread Franz Dietzmann
I just tried the i386 Live-CD to check if this is an issue of the 64bit
version. In the Live environment, the card was instantly recognised, I was
asked for the PIN and could connect. I didn't even have to modprobe nozomi. As
there was no freeze after starting Firefox and surfing a bit, I decided to
install this instead of the 64 bit version.
Unfortunatly, after installation, the same problem as before. Ubuntu almost
instantly freezes when I start Firefox or Evolution.
What is strange though is that it takes a lot longer until the freeze if I just
use the terminal. I wanted to check for Updates, so I did apt-get update, which
went fine and then apt-get upgrade, which downloaded the first 10-20MB fine
before freezing again.

[Bug 658672] Re: nozomi module completly crashes ubuntu after 3G connection is established

2010-10-11 Thread Franz Dietzmann
Hi,
I booted a live-cd after reproducing the bug again, so the logs would be right
until the freeze. One thing I noticed playing around a bit is, that the freeze
only appears when I actually try to use the connection. I can load the module,
enter the PIN and connect and the computer will work just fine. Just when I
open a program that transfers data (Evolution, Pidgin, Firefox) the freeze will
appear after a couple of seconds.

[Bug 658672] [NEW] nozomi module completly crashes ubuntu after 3G connection is established

2010-10-11 Thread Franz Dietzmann
Public bug reported:

I have a Option GT Fusion+ mobile broadband PCMCIA card (Qualcomm MSM6275),
which in previous releases used the nozomi driver and worked pretty well.
Now after installing Maverick, the card was not recognised at all.
As there was not much information around I simply tried "sudo modprobe nozomi".
The card was then recognised and NetworkManager asked for a PIN, I set up the
connection details and NM also established a connection.
The problem is, shortly after the connection is established, the computer
completely freezes, no more key/mouse inputs are recognised, only a hard reset
works.

This is on a fresh install (no upgrade) of Ubuntu 10.10 64bit.
Please let me know which further information or logs you need.

[Bug 505330] Re: Unable to make Internet connection with Option Globetrotter Fusion+ on Ubuntu 9.10

I am the original poster of # 425312. As I needed the connection, I switched
back to jaunty for the time being. Today I just installed the lucid-daily and
the card now is recognized and I can connect to my network. So for me, the
problem is solved in Lucid.
This is for a Option Fusion+ with Qualcomm MSM6275 Chip.

[Bug 501972] Re: messages stored but not displayed

2010-01-06 Thread Franz Dietzmann
I have (I think) the same problem on a Jaunty 64bit. I was wondering why
I did not get any new Emails the last few days from any POP3 accounts
(Hotmail, web.de, gmail). Now Pidgin today notified me of a new mail in
Hotmail, I went to Evolution to fetch it, it said it was getting the
mail, but nothing showed up in the inbox. So I went to Hotmail itself to
check if there was mail and just found it in the Trash there, alongside
some other mails from the last few days.

This pretty much makes Evolution unusable for me. If there is anymore
info I can provide please let me know. Testing on Karmic is not possible
for me, as it does not recognise my UMTS-modem and therefore can't
connect to the internet.

Okay, I'm sorry, I should have checked that before. The card is actually

[Bug 425312] [NEW] NetworkManager does not recognize Option Fusion+ PCMCIA-card

2009-09-06 Thread Franz Dietzmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: modemmanager

Release: Ubuntu Karmic 64bit, all updates
modemmanager version: 0.2.git.20090820t183237.cd75023-0ubuntu1

When I attach the card, I was expecting it to show up in the
NetworkManager applet, just as it did in Jaunty and get prompted to add
the details of the connection. But nothing shows up in Karmic.

deamon.log output after attaching is just:
Sep 6 19:36:40 Hamlet modem-manager: (noz0) opening serial device...
Sep 6 19:36:40 Hamlet modem-manager: (noz1) opening serial device...
Sep 6 19:36:40 Hamlet modem-manager: (noz3) opening serial device...
Sep 6 19:36:40 Hamlet modem-manager: (noz2) opening serial device...

The card comes up in lspci as:

03:00.2 Network controller: Option N.V. Qualcomm MSM6275 UMTS chip

It is using the Nozomi driver.

Please let me know of any other logs or command-output that might help
solve this.

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-07-13 Thread Franz Dietzmann
I highly doubt that it had something to do with permissions, as there
were really all kinds of files (audio, video, documents..) from
different sources (downloads, self-made..).

I didn't mean this to be a cause of the bug, but rather a result and
maybe an indicator to where things might be going wrong.

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-07-13 Thread Franz Dietzmann
I just read through all the comments (I hope), and did not find this
mentioned, so I thought it might be helpful..

I had the problem for a long time, but didn't bother too much. Now it got
annoying and after some searching I installed mainline 2.6.30 to see if it
would work.
As has been mentioned here before it does, but unfortunatly my UMTS didn't work
anymore, so I just deleted my Trash and went back to .28
After logging in I found I had 10GB more space on my Home-Partition (the Trash
only had ~1GB in it) The partition is only 40 GB total, so that's a lot. I
checked if something was missing, but didn't find anything, which was strange.

I ran baobab just out of curiosity and there I found 5GB in
~/.local/share/Trash/expunged/
On closer inspection these were all files I supposedly deleted a long time ago,
when the freeze appeared afterwards. I have no idea how they got there, I'm
just a user...but maybe that info can point someone into the right direction.

[Bug 340873] Re: [Jaunty] modprobe requires .conf filenames now

2009-05-25 Thread Franz Dietzmann
The irda-utils package does not install at the moment at all

There is a patch in the comments that seems to "fix" this (even if it
doesn't, I don't know about these things), or at least gets the package
installed again and working. So I think the interest is understandable,
if people need to use their IR-ports.

[Bug 340873] Re: [Jaunty] modprobe requires .conf filenames now

2009-05-22 Thread Franz Dietzmann
I am wondering though: The patch Daniele provided in Comment 18 solved
the problem in irda-utils for me, so far everything works flawlessly.
It's been more then 5 weeks since then, why is this fix not released?

2009-05-20 Thread Franz Dietzmann
There is the command "patch", you'll find a short tutorial on it on
http://www.linuxtutorialblog.com/post/introduction-using-diff-and-patch-
tutorial .

The file you need to apply the patch to is
/var/lib/dpkg/info/irda-utils.postinst
Or at least with patching this one the installation worked for me.

I just found out about this after I edited the script by hand...

[Bug 363100] [NEW] System Monitor applet does not show Mobile Broadband traffic

2009-04-17 Thread Franz Dietzmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Ubuntu-Version: 9.04 64-bit
Package-Version: gnome-applets 2.26.0-0ubuntu4

While using an Option Globetrotter 3+ PCMCIA-card (Nozomi-driver) the
applet in the panel does not show any network traffic. When opening the
Systemmonitor itself, traffic shows up in the "Resources"-tab.

Please let me know of other info/logs that might help with this.

It seems that due to the crash some files in /usr/share/gconf/schemes are now 0
byte, eg. /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gnome-terminal.schemas
Is there a way to reset these schemes to default? Ithink this could probably
solve the problem.
