[Bug 532271] Re: minimise icon out of order
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 532633 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 I just read the duplicate bug report. That's about left/right placement, which might be more visible but far from as bad as changing the order but not the position.I couldn't care less about the position, i have not seen any studies that imply anything is better than the other. In short: * This bug report is about the changing the button order, * The duplicate bug is about position. I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear, but there is a big difference. Thus it would be nice if you could remove duplicate status. I'm trying to avoid the flamefest about left vs right... [Bug 532271] Re: minimise icon out of order
@Wimmer it's not a feature request, It's a severe which is going to cause problems, just like a crasher. You just can't change the ordering because the theme/mockup needs it. If you can't fix metacity in time, then change the theme. Sorry if I don't understand the importance classification correctly. -- minimise icon out of order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 532271] Re: minimise icon out of order
@Dmitruy * It is certainly not part of the the themable properties. GConf is for configuration, not theme. * Just because you can change defaults, doesn't mean you should. * It will be inconsistent with gnome on other systems, including all previous ubuntu releases. But please, google for muscle memory and see why this is a really really bad decession. The task of maximizing/close/minize is such a repeated task that for most users it's a a habit and subconscious. Often users won't even notice that the visual hint (icon) has changed and have a habit of clicking 'leftmost/middle/rightmost'. This is also often refered to as muscle memory - ie your hand remembers where the actions are because you don't consciously think about it. You don't change button orders or locations unless there is a very very very good reason, and frankly 'because the mockup said so' is not a good reason. Please, I'm not pulling this out of my ass ;). Also, if the change is because the rounded corners aren't possible in dialogs, because minimize button isn't shown, then patch metacity to allow such a theme. -- minimise icon out of order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 532271] Re: minimise icon out of order
@Mathew, it's because the designer was using wrong button order. @Dmitrijs, not here the offending file is still present and the rounded corners are still broken, compare /usr/share/gconf/defaults/90_light-themes -> maximize, minimize, close: with /usr/share/gconf/schemas/metacity.schemas -> ... menu:minimize,maximize,close... If the correct standard gnome button order is used the theme is wrong. And i havent seen any reason why ubuntu should change button order. It's a really bad thing to do. ** Changed in: light-themes (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- minimise icon out of order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 532271] Re: minimise icon out of order
It's on purpose, moreover installing light-themes modifies system defaults, (gconf), this it is changed for all themes! The offending packaged file is: /usr/share/gconf/defaults/90_light-themes Wit contents, /apps/metacity/general/button_layout :maximize, minimize, close Reverting the odd change is basicly done with gconf-editor and changing /apps/metacity/general/button_layout to :minimize, maximize, close Don't forget the ':' -- minimise icon out of order https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is pointless... nm fails when setting up wpa_supp config and then you want a log from wpa_supp. Wireless and wired uses diffent codepaths for setting up wpa_supp config... Well i mean 802.1x authentication support (802.11x is not even authentication or a spec at all), however it can surely be used on wired connections. [Bug 284505] Re: 8.543 Crashes on login screen
I see my bug got hijacked 1) Bryce (or Automatic Bot disgusing as bryce), i'm concerned with the automatic aggressive pruning of bugs on launchpad. This isn't the first time i've seen it. Really somebody else had the same trace and know i need to bothered more. It's already too complicated to use apport. Using the browser is crap especially when it shows launchpad. I can only complain about launchpad since I can't fix it myself). Please explain why a new xorg log would change anything? I havent seen any important kernel or fglrx updates, that other than pure luck whould fix the bug. I've attached an lspci dump. 2) Everyone else but korsic posted different stack traces, it's not the same bug or doesn't appear to be. Suddenly the cause was the vbox driver which i've never used or heard of. Unless you are 100% sure open a new bug, it's easier to duplicate a bug than to split one bug into two. Bad launchpad experience. I guess my headline wasn't specific enough. ** Attachment added: "lspci -vvv output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19343461/lspci -- 8.543 Crashes on login screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 202814] Re: Resume from standby works with "pm-suspend" but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules)
Bernhard, i got intrigued that that lshal |grep quirks showed nothing and it still uses vbe-post. I found the cause (A weird ubuntu patch). 88_change_pm_quirk_policy.patch changes the logic in a distinct way. For example vbe-post quirk. -[ "$HAL_PROP_POWER_MANAGEMENT_QUIRK_VBE_POST" = "true" ] && QUIRKS="$QUIRKS --quirk-vbe-post" +[ "$HAL_PROP_POWER_MANAGEMENT_QUIRK_VGA_MODE_3" != "false" ] && QUIRKS="$QUIRKS --quirk-vbe-post" Normal hal: enabling quirk requires the value to be true. Any other value disables the quirk. With patch: disabling the quirk requires to be false. Any other value enables the quirk. It's whitelist vs. blacklist. But the fdi files are upstream expects to enable quirks only when needed. So values like "foobar" or null (or whatever bash unset variables evalutes to) causes the quirk to be enabled with this patch. The changelog even says: - 88_change_pm_quirk_policy.patch: Patch by Matthew Garret, undocumented, non-obvious purpose. Applying a patch and knowing is has a "non obvious purpose" shouldn't happen, even if it's from Matthew Garret :). ** Also affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Resume from standby works with "pm-suspend" but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume
Current hardy, macbook pro 1,1 15" I made the same but shorter comment in bug #202814. Thanks tip of pm-suspend to get this working Bernhard :) So after messing around it seems it's because acpi-support isn't used at all and pm-utils is. So /etc/apci-support does not do anything See /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux (Assuming this is called) Calling "pm-suspend" works since it's called with no quirks (see pm-suspend --help). But hal on my machine has 'power_management.quirk.vbe_post = true' because of 20-video-quirk-pm-apple.fdi changing it to false fixes resume/supend from System->Quit "logout window" You can check with lshal |grep quirk and see what quirks is set and change the corresponding fdi files for you machine. This bug is caused by either: * Hal quirks is wrong for fglrx platforms with kernel 2.6.24. * Hal is supposed to use acpi-support on ubuntu but patch isn't applied ? PS in /usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults I also had to set SUSPEND_MODULES="ath_pci" keeping network working. [Bug 202814] Re: Resume from standby works with "pm-suspend" but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules)
So after messing around it seems that it's because acpi-support isn't used and pm-utils is. pm-suspend works fine since it's called with no quirks, but hal on my machine set quirk.vbe_post = true. In hal I had 'power_management.quirk.vbe_post = true' because of 20-video-quirk-pm-apple.fdi changing it to false fixes resume/supend from System->Quit. So this bug is not in gnome-power-manager but in hal (!). -- Resume from standby works with "pm-suspend" but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Somewhat same for me with a macbok pro.. getting "abnormal status 0x7F on port 0xD407" After trying at DMA/100 and PIO/0 speeds it gives up and then finds the the CDROM drive. Then it stalls.
