[Bug 137514] Re: sshfs locks up randomly

2012-04-26 Thread Frostybeard
In Ubuntu 11.10 sshfs locks up, for example when the remote end drops
off. "fusermount -u /path/to/mount" has no effect

When this happens, I cannot browse the directory where the mount folder
is - it just hangs. If I am in a terminal, I have to forcefully close
the terminal.

searching with "ps -e | grep sshfs" shows an orphaned process. If I kill
it, I can use sshfs again and browse folders again.

@kripton @kripton-r
I have no realtek hardware on my computer. It happens over USB networking.

[Bug 882667] [NEW] C headers are missing from armel 11.10

2011-10-27 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

I installed Oneiric onto my Pandaboard and noticed that there are no C
headers, even if dpkg -l shows that libc6 and libc6-dev are installed.
In /usr/include they are simply not there. gcc complains when #include

[Bug 947208] [NEW] Running apt-get update; apt-get updgrade borks system in 11.04

2012-03-05 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

1)-2) I ran apt-get update; apt-get upgrade today on a Panda Board with
a fresh installation of 11.04 from the image.

The update gave failure messages from dpkg at the end.
The device rebooted with a couple of penguin icons and a lot of kernel messages
in text mode complaining about the disk. Then the screen went dark and no
longer worked.

ctrl alt F4, etc. don't work.

Previously I ran apt-get update on Maverick after the Pandaboard had been
packed away for a while
and it FUBARed the system as well, hence my attempt to install 11.04.

3) I expected apt-get update to give me the latest packages without
borking my whole system.

4) instead it borked my whole system to where I need to reinstall Linux
again.

[Bug 997095] [NEW] Computer with Radeon HD 6310 boots up to black screen with 12.04

2012-05-09 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

When installing 12.04 into an Acer Aspire laptop that has HD Radeon 6310, it
boots to a black screen.
The same is also true for Debian testing (as of about 1 week ago), OpenSuse12,
and Fedora 15 and 16. (except when selecting "basic graphics" mode)

In Ubuntu, it was not possible to select an installation mode which would not
have booted
to a black screen.

It makes it impossible to install Ubuntu into the computer, because it makes it
impossible to get an ip address
to use ssh, or even install ssh, let alone install the driver from AMD. You
guys should check to see what Fedora
is doing differently that they have a "basic graphics" mode that works. Then
after installation it is possible to
install the driver and so forth.

A bit of Googling shows that I am not alone in having problems with this video
card in Linux.
I thought it would be a good idea to report it here.

[Bug 384938] [NEW] Cameras not detected/mounted in Kubuntu 9.04

2009-06-08 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

System: Quad-core Phenom, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB hd.

Kubuntu does not react to nor mount either of my cameras after upgrade.
(Nikon Coolpix S560, Pentax Optio W10)

It also appears that plugging/unplugging the cameras can cause the

shutdown not possible (hangs on shutdown), mouse and keyboard stop
reacting except ctrl-alt-del may cause the computer to beep.

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2009-06-10 Thread Frostybeard
I also have this same problem. The mouse and keyboard freeze up after a
few minutes of use. The only think I can do is shut it off the nasty
way, since I cannot restart the X server or reboot using the keyboard.

Right now I am going to try to set up an sshd on it so I can log in
remotely and try to snoop around and see what is going on.

I am running Kubuntu 9.04 on two other (32 bit) machines with no
problems. The problem machine is 64 bit. It worked fine with the
previous version of Kubuntu. The problems started immediately upon
upgrading to 9.04.

[Bug 784991] [NEW] initramfs update breaks 11.04 installation on armel OMAP4 (Pandaboard)

2011-05-18 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bootcd-mkinitramfs

Yesterday (May 18, 2011) I installed the 11.04 arm OMAP4 image to my
memory card and put it into my Pandaboard. It booted and installed
itself OK. Afterward I ran "apt-get update" then "apt-get dist-upgrade".
In the morning it said that it had failed to install an initramfs
package correctly, and the script had returned with error code -1 I saw
the text "system busy". After that, it no longer boots. I tried to
report an error throught the automatic tool, but the script hung in my
browser.

This bug is serious, since it breaks the system and makes it stop
booting.

[Bug 785946] [NEW] 11.04 armel OMAP4, system configuration keeps coming up when trying to log in, even if it is already configured

2011-05-20 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

I put a brand new 11.04 image onto a memory card. I put the memory card
into my Panda board. It resizes itself, and then boots up into a system
configuration dialog. I add my new user, keyboard layout, language, time
zone, computer name, ... and hit OK. It then reboots, and when it should
go into the login dialog, it goes back into the system configuration.
When system configuration runs, my previously selected fields are
already there. When it gets to the end where I create a new user and
name for the computer, it does not allow me to go on (the forward button
is dimmed). This has happened twice - the second time I was able to get
it to go away by rebooting a few times. Now it does not go away.

2011-05-20 Thread Frostybeard
I have this problem too. I duplicated an error to this one. After
successfully installing Natty to Pandaboard, running "apt-get update"
and "apt-get dist-upgrade" breaks the installation, meaning Ubuntu no
longer boots.

Also running the graphical update tool fails in the initramfs package
installation. I have it running now and am reluctant to reboot. Just
wondering if I can fix it before shutting it down so that it will
reboot.

[Bug 363670] [NEW] Ktorrent goes crazy on the hd after reboot with no internet connection

2009-04-19 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ktorrent

In Kubuntu Intrepid, I had been using Ktorrent to download something,
which had completed.

The computer is being used to do video surveillance with "motion". I went to
look at it, and the
hard drive was going crazy. I could not get into KDE. With CTRL ALT + F
(something) I got into a terminal finally
after much struggle. I logged in and started "top". Ktorrent was up near the
top of the list. The computer was not
in the internet. (I use WLAN, and I have to manually start it each time to get
into the internet)
I killed Ktorrent, and the crazy churning of the hard drive stopped immediately.

I had also just installed Guarddog as well, the previous day, for when I
am in the internet. "motion" uses some IP ports that I don't want to be
open to the internet like 8080 and 8081.

So it seems that Ktorrent, after previously being used for peer to peer
downloading/seeding, may go crazy after a firewall is installed and/or
the computer is not in the internet. I fear it could have physically
broken my system if I had left it like that for a longer period.

[Bug 369686] [NEW] In intrepid problem with using 2 webcams

2009-04-30 Thread Frostybeard
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Intrepic: (Video4Linux)
I have Toshiba laptop that has an inbuilt web camera. I see /dev/video0. I can
view the output of the camera in luvcview, no problems.

I connect a verified supported Logitech USB 2 MPix Quickcam that works
in anothe Kubuntu Intrepid box to this computer. I see /dev/video0 and
now I also see /dev/video1. I look at the output of /dev/video0 in
luvcview. Same as before no problem. I look at the output of
/dev/video1. It is the same as /dev/video0. Both /dev/videoX directories
are mounted to the same camera.

The new /dev/video1 shows up after I plug in the USB webcam, but it
shows the output of the original /dev/video0.

Re: [Bug 363670] Re: Ktorrent goes crazy on the hd after reboot with no internet connection

2009-04-28 Thread Frostybeard
Hi,

This system has 2 gigs installed. I don't think I was anywhere close to
running out of memory. The going crazy seemed to be due to either that
I had no network connection, or that I had just installed the firewall.
Ktorrent had been previously seeding.
