[Bug 2077960] [NEW] frequently loosing keyboard in some apps + WORK AROUND

2024-08-27 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Since I upgraded my machine to Ubuntu 24.04, I frequently loose keyboard
in some applications.

- Using mouse in the affected application works perfectly but hitting keyboard
keys does not input anything.
- When it starts, some applications works others do not.
- Closing & Reopening affected app does not solve the problem.
- Re-running the app with "dbus-launch " makes it work temporarilly again.
- WORK AROUND *Running "ibus start" makes everything work again.*
- (When it happened to Firefox, it seemed that I couldn't enter anything in the
initial "Master Password" dialog box, but then I could enter whatever I wanted
in the URL bar of FF !?!)

*Seems that ibus is very unstable...*

Not sure what to provide as info. Here is what I have :

My machine is quite recent (2yrs? and UEFI mostly up-to-date) :
```
$ dmesg | grep Dell
...
Dell Inc. Precision 7560/0Y1R4H, BIOS 1.31.0 04/12/2024
...
```

```
$ ibus version
IBus 1.5.29-rc2
```

```
# apt install ibus
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
ibus is already the newest version (1.5.29-2).
```

MY /tmp is filled with dbus-* dirs... (due to my launch of 2/3 apps with
`dbus-launch `?)

[Bug 1943062] Re: mplayer does not support AV1/dav1d (a.k.a. mplyer is bundled with an outdated ffmpeg)

2021-09-14 Thread G.M.
So can you explain why the video at link below (which is the one quoted
in the original message) does not play in Linux Mint (where mplayer says
it is the Debian version) ?

https://upload.disroot.org/r/35mvWXhS#O5Sud9anGqDShOOR972aWtzpBhC+efIslIszs870YxQ=

Reminder: error message specifically lists video format (dav1d) as the
problem...
"Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x31305641."

(I've tried with all the possible video outputs listed by "-vo help".
None works)

Problem seems to have been solved a few months ago for Mageia:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28504
It seems the source of the problem is that mplayer is bundled with an outdated

Video was downloaded from:

with firefox and plugin "Video Download Helper" and by selecting the mkv
version.

[Bug 1884525] Re: Cannot start calibre

2020-12-12 Thread G.M.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1898904 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898904

Hi there,

I don't think this bug is a duplicate of bug #1898904. Here the error is
NOT "AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'cancel'" BUT
"PyCapsule_GetPointer called with incorrect name".

I upgraded my Linux Mint 20 this morning & got the error in this bug not
the other one.

The bug is there since 06/2020 & we are 12/2020. Does this means that
Calibre is not usable for all Ubuntu (&derivates) uses for ~6 months?!?
I find it strange... If it would be the case, this bug would have
received a LOT more votes/attention, no?

Whatever, this bug is very blocking for me as I use Calibre a lot to
read/convert books and comics. I've installed the latest standalone
binary build of calibre as recommended by @eschwartz and it works
seamlessly (I used `wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com
/linux-installer.sh | sh /dev/stdin install_dir=~/calibre-bin
isolated=y` to install it as user for testing purposes).

Can someone tell me (or point me to documentations that explain) how I
could create a wrapper package that executes this script and how I can
ask Ubuntu's maintainers to replace the current faulty package from the
repos by such a wrapper package?

Thanks

[Bug 1903514] [NEW] can't associate due to strange notification usage

2020-11-09 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When I try to pair my computer with my phone, using "Make Discoverable"
on the computer an "associate with" on the phone, the phone displays a
PIN to be accepted and I click it. In parallel, the computer displays a
desktop notification (XFCE pop-up notification here) that SAYS the PIN
must be accepted, but clicking the pop-up does nothing (apart making it
disappear) and there's no place where I can accept the PIN in any menu
in blueman... Thus the operation always ends up failing (and blocking
the phone for any new BT operation until a timeout occurs)...

When I do the converse: pair my phone with my computer, only yhe phone
displays notifications to be accepted and it works flawlessly...

[Bug 987578] Re: Evince is not allowed to use exo-open

2020-09-08 Thread G.M.
Hi,

This bug is back in Document Viewer/Evince(*) 3.36.7, at least under
Linux Mint 20 Ulyana.

Apparently, evince does not try to use exo-open anymore, but launches firefox
directly (or via a sh shell?!?!) :{
I get error: "sh: 1: exec: firefox: Operation not permitted"

I've tried the trick found here to modify /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince
but with not success.

I used (NOTE: I have absolutely no idea what "ixr" could mean, thus what I'm
doing...):
/usr/bin/firefox ixr, -> error about "option" x being in conflict
/usr/bin/firefox r,   -> does not work
/usr/bin/sh r,-> seems very dangerous & does not work

(*) Life would be a LOT easier for bug reporters if only one name would be used
for app, instead of one name in CLI (/usr/bin/evince) and another in GUI
(Document Viewer)...

Hi,

I encountered the same problem today.

Removing splash did not help.

Disabling plymouth worked, but I face a console login screen. It was
also impossible to start lightdm manually. Apparently in my case lightdm
is the problem...

[Bug 1865363] [NEW] nm-applet unstable behaviour when multiple AP have the same name

2020-03-01 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm using a public wifi network to access the internet (in the spirit of
FON - https://fon.com/). Let's name it XXX.

There are multiple access points with the same name that "offer" this
network. Many are in conflict with one another, using the same channel.
Also, each AP is regularly switching channel, so I cannot associate a
channel to a bssid and work with bssids instead of network name.

nm-applet manages this situation very badly:

- nm-applet seems to select the AP with the strongest signal, even if it
is in conflict with 10s of others APs, leading to a very bad connexion,
while still displaying an icon showing very good signal;

- Also, as a consequence of its selection, quite often, nm-applet
switches from one AP to the other, creating very instable situations,
leading to even worse connexions throughput;

- Trying to solve the problem, I saved the network, modified the
connexion manually to fix one channel (let's name it YYY1), saved the
connexion as "XXX-c[han]YYY1", then disconnected. Then I reconnected to
the network, but nm-applet seemed to have switched to another AP using
another chanel (YYY2), so I repeated the operation, and saved a
"XXX-c[han]YYY2" network. Now, nm-applet, in its list of available
networks, now randomly displays either simply "XXX", or at times "XXX >"
(with a triangular char showing that there are sunetworks available)
with "XXX-channelYYY1" are "XXX-channelYYY2" as sub networks. In the
second case, if I select the network with less/no channel conflict, then
the connexion is quite good and stable.

  > As can be seen in the attached picture, in the terminal, there are
many access points available for XXX network, several using channel 11
or 7. As can also be seen there are 2 saved networks in nm-applet "Edit
networks", one fixed to chan7, one fixed to chan11. However, nm-applet
just lists "XXX" in its list of available networks...

- Finally, there is no simple way in "Edit connections" to copy an
existing configuration, so I cannot easily create a connection for each
possible chanel. So, even if point above would be solved and nm-applet
always display the avaliable "XXX-c[han]YYY" sub networks, I cannot
simply create an entry for each channel and manually select the channel
that is less in conflict than the others, based on my script that lists
all the APs and the channels they use.

Does anyone has a solution to this kind of situation?

[Bug 1851875] Re: Atril crashes when trying to select text in a specific file

2019-12-17 Thread G.M.
Hi,

I'm under XUbuntu 19.10, and both Evince and Atril crash on most PDFs I
generated from LaTeX (beamer presentation, or MCQ build with
AutoMultipleChoice), when I do simple things like double click anywhere
in the PDF, try to select pieces of text, etc.

It seems to be the same problem, as I'm on Intel GPU:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics
520] (rev 07)

So probably the problem lies in a shared library...

I've been using the computer for a few days now after upgrading the

Thanks!

I would be glad to know what has changed (and also how to debug so
drastic crashes) so that in the future I would not waste so mcuh time
(and work) due to similar problems...

[Bug 1833474] Re: Radom & frequent total crashes since upgrade to 19.04

2019-10-07 Thread G.M.
Hi all,

I've managed to track down where the problem comes from.

CONTEXT

- I use one of my neighbors' access point/portal to access internet
(based on FON principle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fon_(company)).

- Since the access point is not that close from my apartment, I baught and use
an external Wifi adapter with a (supposed to be) 5DBi antenna. This is the
exact following "ALFA" model:
https://www.dx.com/p/alfa-awus036nh-network-ralink-3070l-wifi-network-card-2000mw-alfa-wireless-wifi-usb-adapter-with-5dbi-antenna-white-2053330.html

- In order to be able to put this device outside my window, I plug it to my
computer via a 2m USB armored cable, similar to this one (with the
characteristic little bump / fuse?)
https://mpshop.tn/3035-thickbox_default/rallonge-usb-male-femelle.jpg
I tried with several cables (non-armored ones or longer cables, armored or
not). All lead to kernel not recognizing the device or intermittent
disconnection from the AP or disappearing of the device after a few minutes.

The chipset is apparently detected as a RaLink and the kernel tells me it uses
the 'rt2870.bin' firmware:

Under Linux (XUbuntu 19.04), everything works fine (detection of
networks/connection to networks/upload&download), apart the fact that
the computer totally freezes/crashes in less than 2 hours as soon as the
ALFA device is plugin. When I use the computer without the ALFA device
plugged, everything works fine (tested reaching a 12 days uptime!)

Under windows (10 1903) everything works fine whatever the conditions
(there's no crashes, even with the ALFA device plugged, tested reaching
24hrs uptime - sorry, I'm not able to use Windows more than that ;)...).

So my (informed) guess is that there's a bug either in Linux's RaLink
module or 'rt2870.bin' firmware.

How can I provide more details, so that the bug is corrected ?

PS: I don't see how this is not a security issue: a computer that freezes
brutally and in a non recoverable manner (CTRL-ALT-DEL & SysReq are useless)
1) reflects a very big problem in some module/firmware code, that probably can
be related to a buffer overflow of some kind which could be exploited
locally/remotely to take control of the machine
2) has a very strong probability to lead to data corruption (as it is clear
that apps/fs/disks are not shutdown correctly)
3) even if it is not the case, being potentially able to voluntarily (locally
or remotely) execute the part of the code that crashes the machine, i.e.
perform a Denial of Service, is very serious problem...

PS2: I'm aware that I use potentially chinese non-guenuine
devices/chipsets/cables and that can be the source of many problems.
However, the Linux kernel should, at worse, refuse to recognize/use the
device, but crashing after woking correctly a few hours is not an
acceptable option.

[Bug 1795433] [NEW] Some XFCE 4.12.4 custom keybindings not working

2018-10-01 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 18.04.1 on my old desktop computer. I
assigned a few keys via XFCE's menu Application > Settings >
WindowManager > Keyboard, including Ctl-Alt-a to "maximize window".

This worked for a few weeks, but this morning I dist-upgraded the
machine (didn't do it for ~1-2 weeks) and it does not work anymore.

When I assign "maximize" to Ctl-Alt-b, it works again, but not when I
switch again to Ctl-Alt-a.

I have cleared almost all the other keybindings, with no more luck

This key sequence seems to be intercepted somewhere in the lastest
version of XFCE (4.12.4). Indeed, when the "Window Manager" settings
window is opened, and I type Ctl-Alt-a, I see the "style" pane blinks.
In other windows Ctl-Alt-a selects/blinks the first available button. So
it seems Ctl-Alt-a is interpreted as something like "select (first)
pane/GUI element".

[Bug 1730922] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10 => nothing sent to cups

2017-11-08 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10, when I try to print something from
evince, nothing is sent to Cups (I see nothing in the printer's queue
with system-config-printer).

The only thing I see in the logs are many lines like :
[ 1549.847075] audit: type=1400 audit(1510129355.497:59): apparmor="DENIED"

 pid=2062 comm="evince" requested_mask="m" denied_mask="m" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

Any idea what could be the problem/how to solve it? Or at least any hint
how I can debug the printing chain?

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1700944] [NEW] less display is broken when using option to show line numbers

hi,

alias less='less -r -N'

Now, msot of the time, when I open a file, less displays the file
starting at line 2 (sometimes even at line 38 or more), with no

[Bug 1698375] [NEW] Capture mouse pointer ?

2017-06-16 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I didn't find any documentation on how to capture mouse pointer with
"scrot", so I think this is currently not possible. However several
tools can do it, so I think it might not be a difficult addition.

I would love to be able to do that without installing big graphical apps
with lots of deps like xfce4-screenshooter or gnome-screenshot.

Indeed, I was trying to report a bug in Inkscape, where the tool
selected is incorrect and this can be 'seen' only by the change in the
mouse pointer...

[Bug 1698332] [NEW] Why is there no 'Downgrade to...' options in the popup menu on lines?

2017-06-16 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

There's a very useful tool: "Upgrade to Polyline/Bezierline".

It allows users that have created a single segment line, to add a
segment to get around an object that would come across the line.

Unfortunately, if the user draws a line, then selects this option by
error, there is no way of "Downgrading to" a single segment line, apart
destroying the polyline and re-creating a fresh new single segment line.

I understand that "Downgrading" is not easy as information is lost and
managing that (and related user new interactions) might be too much to
pain for the developers for the utility of the new service.

I think an option solve this problem could be to completely get rid of this
whole idea of "Up/Downgrading to", and simply always allow the user to
Add/Remove corners/controls.
- If a corner is added => transparently switch to Polyline
- If a control is added => transparently switch to Bezier
- If there is only 1 segment/control and it is removed => transparently switch
to single segment line
Wouldn't that gretly simplify the user experience at the expense of a very low
quantity of code to add?

[Bug 1698327] [NEW] Why does an automatic switch of tool occur?

Public bug reported:

Let's say I selected the tool "Text edit". If I click on a non-
text(-editable) object, why does the selected tool automatically
switches to the default tool "Modify Object"?

This is very annoying in cases where there are lots of (potentially
interlaced) texts/groups and you miss the one you aimed, you now have to
steps to do (re-select the Text Edit tool + click again but on the
correct text object) to recover the situation.

2017-06-15 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

When I select a group and hit CTRL-Shift-g to ungroup it, what occurs is
that the elements are ungrouped and each element is selected. This is
wanted. However, when I then click on an individual element (because I
want to modify this single one before re-grouping the elements), instead
of selecting this element and unselecting the others, this simply does
nothing. As a consequence, I have to *first* unselect all the ex-group
elements (e.g. by clicking somewhere in a blank spot), *then* select the
individual element I want to change. This more than triples(*) the
number of mouse clicks necessary for a simple edition of an element, the
is far from productive...

(*) particularly when you consider you should not have to ungroup elements to
modify a single one inside a group.

[Bug 1698149] [NEW] Cannot change text inside a group

2017-06-15 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Once a group is formed, it is impossible to change the text inside it
without ungrouping first.

What is particularly annoying is that I can change all the font
characteristic and./or alignment, but not the text itself when I click
on "Properties" in the context menu of the group!!!

As to design a drawing correctly, you are advised to use multiple levels
of groupings, such an erratic behaviour implies you often have to
ungroup to the deepest level, which makes using Dia very slow and
unproductive when you have a lot of text :{

[Bug 1698147] [NEW] Create group + copy + ungroup copy (after several attempts) results in copy disappearing + ungrouping of original group !!!!!

2017-06-15 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Using Dia 0.97+git

I've come across this very annoying bug several times today:

1. What I do:
- Create a group with a) a CISCO "server with PC router" icon + b) short
underlying text legend
- Copy this object and move it to its definitive place
(- enventually unselect everything + reselect the copy)
- Hit CTRL-Shift+g to ungroup the copy

2. This results in
- the whole copy of the group disappearing
- the ungrouping of the original group!

This does not occur everytime, but after several manipulations on my graphic,
when it starts behaving like that, it wont stop... Even after a restart of
Dia!!!

[Bug 1697448] [NEW] calendar: how to manage multiple calendar files?

2017-06-12 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm using BSD's "calendar" to print dates of interest at each opening of
a terminal (in fact, of a shell...).

As you can guess, I need the number of entries to be as low as possible
in order not to pollute my screen.

For the moment, I use "calendar.french", but there are too many entries
there. I'd like to use only the files
"/usr/share/calendar/fr_FR/calendar.fetes and
"/usr/share/calendar/fr_FR/calendar.jferies".

I've tried with multiple "-f" options, but then "calendar" defaults to
its basic behaviour: using "calendar.all".

My first remark is the following: I think there's a bug here since it
does not warn the user that there is an error in parsing the command
line.

My second remark is : does anyone knows an option/trick I could use to open
multiple calendar files? I've tried the following, but it does not work:
calendar -A 3 -B 3 <(cat /usr/share/calendar/fr_FR/calendar.{fetes,jferies})

Thanks

OK... Just tried to test the new package

# apt-get install less
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
less is already the newest version (481-2.1ubuntu2).

But the problem is still there, so the patch is unsufficient

[Bug 1679740] [NEW] memtester crashes computer

2017-04-04 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I wanted to test my RAM, so I installed memtester.

On my machine with 2*4GB RAM, I typed in:
$ memtester 8GB 10

Immediately, the computer got frozen...

According to the docs (man page):
"memtester will malloc(3) the amount of memory specified, if possible. If
this fails, it will decrease the amount of memory requested until it succeeds"

So, apparently, memtester succeeded reserving 8GB. I would be glad to
understand how, since:
1. My machine just has that amount physically, but with the OS+other running
software, only 5794044 bytes are free
2. I have set up some paranoïd configurations so that no user process can
request more than 2GB:
$  ulimit -m
2097152

How is it possible that memtester did not got rejected by the OS when asking
for more memory than available?
How is it possible that memtester did not got rejected by the user process's
limits?
How to prevent memtester (and any other software) to crash my system by simply
greedily asking for memory?

[Bug 1679732] [NEW] ThB 45.8 uses 100%CPU and its windw freezes on start

2017-04-04 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This morning I dist-upgraded my Ubuntu 17.04 and got ThB
1:45.8.0+build1-0ubuntu1 installed.

Since then, when I start ThB it start using 100% CPU (1 full core) and
the window freezes. I have no other solution than kill -9 to stop it...

FYI, I have 3 email accounts and 2 google calendars (thus required
extensions), plus passwords saved but protected by a Master passwd.

BTW, I still have the same problem I've reported countless times over the last
couple of years: since I have 3 emails+2 calendars, everytime I start ThB , I'm
facing 5 popups to enter my master passwd... Quite annoying.

[Bug 1679722] [NEW] blank lines added betweeen normal output lines?

2017-04-04 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I've been using the 'calendar' tool from this package for several years
now without any problem.

A few month ago (after I upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04, if I recall
correctly), I've noticed a very annoying change: now, between every
'normal' output lines, is added a blank line. This makes the output very
large where it is not useful.

Also, I found absolutely no way to remove these extraneous outputs...

This is particularly annoying since I'm calling calendar from my .bashrc
, and now I've almost a quarter to a half the screen already used when I
open a terminal...

Now, my output looks like:

$ calendar -f ushollidays
Apr 04 Tandy Corp. acquires Radio Shack, 1963 (9 stores)

Apr 04 Martin Luther King assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, 1968

Apr 04 NATO Established, 1949

Apr 04 Gandalf visits Bilbo

Now, my output looks like:

Before it looked like:

$ calendar -f ushollidays
Apr 04 Tandy Corp. acquires Radio Shack, 1963 (9 stores)
Apr 04 Martin Luther King assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, 1968
Apr 04 NATO Established, 1949
Apr 04 Gandalf visits Bilbo

Could you please restore the previous output, or at least add an option
to remove the additional useless blank lines?

Thanks

[Bug 1643506] Re: Upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10 results to crash at launch

2017-03-15 Thread G.M.
Hi again,

In case anyone finally decides to read this page some day... OK I got
the problem and solution...

I switched to Ubuntu 17.04 and the problem is still the same. So I asked for
help on the project page:
https://github.com/QupZilla/qupzilla/issues/2135

Their remark lead me to find indications on the web that QupZilla 1.8 uses
libwebkit that has become a pile of crap, and that users HAVE TO switch to
QupZilla 2.x branch, which uses libwebengine:
http://blog.qupzilla.com/search?updated-min=2017-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&updated-max=2018-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&max-results=3

Would be great if the Ubuntu team would realize the problem and release
a package with QupZilla 2.x/libwebengine5 instead of the non-working
pile of crap that QupZilla 1.8/libwebkit has become...

[Bug 1654532] Re: mplayer no sound from script

2017-01-08 Thread G.M.
While shutting down my computer, and particularly when closing FF, I
realized that sounds do indeed play!!

Could it be that flash (I always have jango.com opened in a tab) is
blocking sound from mplayer/pulse ???

How could I resolve that ?

[Bug 1654553] Re: Firefox 50.1.0 report malware on downloaded epub files!

2017-01-06 Thread G.M.
** Description changed:

When downloading .chm/.epub/.pdf files from a given site, FF 50.1.0 reports
that there are malwares in them.
- This is certainly wrong (clamscan reports no problem on the files...) and
seems to be *only* based on *wrong suppositions* on the origin URL...
+ This is *certainly* wrong (no antivirus detects them as problematic(*)) and

Indeed, downloading from supposedly "illegal" sites (is a site that
proposes links to supposedly illegal stuff illegal in itself? Whoi are
you to decide it is illegal?) does not means you get "illegal" files
(how do you know I don't own the rights to get the file), nor that the

not use, so I REALLY DON'T CARE of what FF assumes of the risks I'm

[Bug 1654532] Re: mplayer no sound from script

I'm now wondering if that could be a bug in pulse, since the output of
mplayer shows that it believes it plays the sound correctly, whereas
there's no sound in the speaker...

[Bug 1654532] Re: mplayer no sound from script

2017-01-06 Thread G.M.
Still more strangely, if I use "play" in my script, which makes it work, but
then call the script from cron, it does not work again.
[BTW, mplayer never works in cron since it does not work in a script]

** Description changed:

  Hi,

I cannot manage to get mplayer output sound when running inside a

  I have a script:
  -rwxr-xr-x ~/Softs/alarm.sh

  Which contains:
+ #!/bin/bash
  mplayer ~/.sounds/alarm.ogg -loop 3

  1. If I run the script with:
  . ~/Softs/alarm.sh
  I can hear the sound.

  2. If I run the script with:
  ~/Softs/alarm.sh
I hear nothing but the output of mplyer is normal, the same as when it play a
sound correctly.

I've read millions of forums, tried millions of options of mplayer
(DISPLAY=:0.0 mplayer, -vo null, -ao pulse, -volume, -af,
- -softvol/-softvolmax, -really-quiet...)
+ -softvol/-softvolmax, -really-quiet...), still no luck
+
+ I've tried with/without the begining shebang in the script, no more
+ luck.

I've also tried other players, like aplayer (same problem) and play (no
  problem).

Does anyone have an idea if this is a bug and/or where does this
  difference in behaviour comes from???

Strangely, if I use "play" in my script rather than mplayer and start it with:
~/Softs/alarm.sh &
Then I have no sound until I type fg...
There MUST be some system-wide audio thing I do not understand.

[Bug 1643506] Re: Upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10 results to crash at launch

2016-12-06 Thread G.M.
Hey guys,

It's been almost 3 weeks that this bug report is sitting here and there's
absolutely no answer from anyone, whereas it is very critical since the
software isn't running at all...
What is happening to you guys?

I'm reported the bug directly to the QupZilla team (isn't there an automatic
process to do that?)
https://github.com/QupZilla/qupzilla/issues/2135

In the process, I've found this page:
https://github.com/QupZilla/qupzilla/wiki/Bug-Reports

It says:
Make sure, that you have installed the latest QupZilla release.
For QtWebkit-Engine: Version 1.8.9, released November 11, 2015
For QtWebEngine: Version 2.0.1, released June 8, 2016

I have absolutely no idea how to check what are the versions installed
on Ubuntu 16.10, but that might be the key to the problem...

[Bug 1643506] Re: Upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10 results to crash at launch

2016-11-25 Thread G.M.
Can someone at least provide a workaround... It's been 5 days and the
program is just totally unusable... It's just far from being
productivity-compliant! Not the idea I had of a Linux for work...

Also it seems related to a bug in QT5 or ligc... So it might impact A
LOT more program than just QupZilla and also it might be a security
issue!

Is it related to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qupzilla/+bug/1568140
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qupzilla/+bug/1620302
?

[Bug 1644192] [NEW] "firefox 50" crashes frequently

2016-11-23 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Just dist-upgraded my 16.10 this morning. FF50 came with the upgrade.

In less than 1 hour, it's the fourth time it crashes!

The last crash, I had 4 tabs opened:
- a google sheet
- http://jango.com with a song playing
- http://mindmatcher.org

I also had a second window opened with a single tab:

I was trying to copy (C-c+C-v) a cell to another when FF crashed and
abruptly closed all the windows.

I can't find any log with more info...
[EDIT: I just found that line in my dmesg:]
[ 6364.448376] Chrome_ChildThr[23754]: segfault at 0 ip 55d952cdaae9 sp
7f2d2ddfe370 error 6 in plugin-container (deleted)[55d952cd2000+3e000]

PS: It's quite annoying, when trying to report a bug about FF50, using
the specific expression "firefox 50", to get a proposition of *all* the
previous bugs for *all* the *previous* versions of FF!

[Bug 1333400] Re: xscreensaver does not respect disable screensaver suppression of applications

2016-10-17 Thread G.M.
Hi,

I'm hitting the same bug.

For more information, I'm using the trick given in mplayer's man page to
prevent xscreensaver to run while watching a movie:
mplayer -heartbeat-cmd "xscreensaver-command -deactivate" file

When playing a movie, I see the following message repeated regularly (I imagine
every 10 minutes, since it's the delay for the heartbeat, by I've not verified
that):
xscreensaver-command: not active: idle timer reset.

Might be the same problem as:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xscreensaver/+bug/926064 ?

[Bug 1622494] [NEW] nm-connection-editor asks passphrase but does not connect automatically

2016-09-12 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When I log into my Ubuntu (dist-upgraded today), I see a pop up a dialog (from
seahorse?) that asks for my passphrase. I assume it is called by the
nm-connection-editor/NetworkManager/the related tray icon for network
management), since it's the only thing that requires this kind of passphrase
right now.
I enter the correct passphrase, then then nothing happens, no network is
connected to.
However, I've at least one wifi network that is configured to "Automatically
connect to this network when it is available" and that wifi network IS
available.

As a conclusion, I don't now really where the bug is, but the option
"Automatically connect to this network when it is available" does not
work, particularly in the case where you have protected your wifi keys
inside a wallet.

[Bug 1600759] Re: Kernel crashes

2016-07-13 Thread G.M.
Hi again,

@brad-figg: Since whole computer is totally frozen (even SysReq keys do
not work), I indeed cannot run apport.

@sbeattie: since the problem resides in the kernel, and the computer is
totally frozen, I assumed that this was a security issue, as an attacker
could locally/remotely freeze the computer... But if you say it is not,
I'll trust you...

FYI, I removed the xscreensaver-gl* and xscreensaver-data-extra and the
problem disappeared. I'm thus convinced to bug can be found in the video
driver, when some OpenGL command is run.

[Bug 1403938] Re: Sound problem with firefox

2016-07-12 Thread G.M.
Again, noticed a "funny" behaviour:

When I open an HTML5 sound/video (e.g. from jango.com) in FF, an entry
for it appears in pavucontrol. If I mute this, then close the FF tab,
the entry in pavucontrol remains, whereas it disappear as soon as I
close the window/stop the music when I don't mute anything.

Even more funny: If I open another FF tab on with another HTML5
sound/video, then change its volume, to set it to a different value as
the other, then I close this new tab, then the old entry is removed, but
the new entry remains!

THERE'S CLEARLY A BIG BUG IN HOW THE STREAMS ARE HANDLED BY CubebUtils!!!

[Bug 1602180] [NEW] no megamv?

2016-07-12 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm still having trouble to get used to the fact that the synopsis for
"megaput" is not "megaput " or
that you have to manually create the dest dir before doing a megacopy.

Thus, I often end up with all my files being uploaded to the /Root of my
mega account.

Unfortunately, there is no "megamv" command to help me reorganize my
stuff. The only solution is to rm then upload again or to use the web
interface. That's a pity.

Could you implement a megamv command? Also, using megafs + mv command
does not work :{

[Bug 1602175] [NEW] quick search

2016-07-12 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

It's been a long time I wanted to report this VERY ANNOYING bug, but I
forgot.

The bug is as follows:
- Do a Quick Search with "/", using all uppercase word, for example "ARRAY" in
page: http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2002/12/05/RAID.html
- Realize that Quick Search is case insensitive
- Hit CTL-f to switch to "Full" Search
- Click on "Match Case"
- Realize that the switch lowercased your query text... Whereas you asked for
the settings of the search to be changed

I still don't know if it's the switch to "Full" search or the click on
"Match case" that lowers the query text, but that's very annoying If
I click on this button it's clearly because the current settings of the
search did not work and I want to change it, not because I'm a stupid
jerk and I need the machine to decide for me what I want to do...

[Bug 1598875] Re: Impossible to access an hidden file/dir in firefox 47 "open" dialog - aka "interface nazis" stroke again!!!

2016-07-04 Thread G.M.
** Description changed:

I'm using the brand new firefox 47 for a few days now.

I've noticed that the (open) dialog boxes have changed. I understood
that's related to a move to full support of gnome(3?).

Unfortunately, it seems that the "interface nazis" stroke again: there's
absolutely no way to access a hidden file/folder (e.g. ~/.pics) from the
"open" dialog box, nor to copy-paste a path! Vry annoying...

Those are just recurrent regression "bugs" from gnome developers...
Apparently Linus' stroke a few years ago didn't help :{ Who can make
them understand how annoying this is?
+
+ I'm talking about this dialog:

Using geeqie 1.2.2

When printing:

- Asking to print in landscape on priter (or in ps file + ps2pdf

[Bug 1580219] Re: screen switches off

2016-06-13 Thread G.M.
I find it quite incredible that no one as reacted to this bug, either to
confirm it or to correct it... I'm not the only one to have a dual
screen with an Haswell architecture (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U). Am I?

However, in case someone has the same problem, I found the workaround:
you have to return to a working kernel, in my case: 4.2.0-35-generic
#40-Ubuntu SMP.

Since it is not in the repositories for 16.04 LTS, you have to get it manually
(and the dependencies, fortunately there are few
linux/linux-image/linux-extras/linux-headers) from:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily/kernel/
and install them manually with:
dpkg -i or gdebi...

[Bug 1590369] [NEW] pulseaudio not playing from cron when flash outputs sound

2016-06-08 Thread G.M.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I've come across a very strange bug:

- WORKS: Playing sound from commandline with /usr/bin/mplayer -ao pulse -vo
null alarm_clock_short.ogg
- WORKS: Playing youtube videos or jango.com flash streaming music either in
firefox or qupzilla
- WORKS (when no other sound is being played): Setting cron to play a sound
every minute/hour (with the exact same mplayer command as above)
- WORKS: Playing youtube videos or jango.com sound AND, at the same time, the
mplayer commandline *from a terminal*

- DOES NOT WORK: Playing youtube videos or jango.com sound AND, at the
same time, running the mplayer commandline *from cron*

There's no error in the logs, either from cron or from redirecting the
output of mplayer or anywhere else...

[Bug 1580219] Re: screen switches off

2016-06-06 Thread G.M.
Trying to reconfigure Xorg not to use the intel driver, I ran:
Xorg -configure :1
This just gave me a black screen with a mouse pointer... Since using the keys
to switch workspaces lead to changes in the mouse pointer, I understood that my
apps where still there, but not displayed...
I used C-A-Suppr to restart and it worked.

But this clearly means that the Xorg intel driver IS BROKEN, so please
DO SOMETHING... At least revert it, since it was working flawlessly in
15.10...

[Bug 916591] Re: The browser causes 20-40% CPU load when displaying an animated gif

2016-06-05 Thread G.M.
I have the same problem, but on an old dual-core desktop machine,
firefox takes up to 105% CPU (or more) and often freezes the whole
machine.

A typical example is when sufing the:
http://izismile.com/
web site and open a few tabs with some of its pages. There's always a moment
where you open a page like:
http://izismile.com/2016/06/03/page,2,daily_gifdump_30_gifs.html
and the whole firefox / computer freezes.

Interestingly, just opening a single tab with the page:
http://izismile.com/2016/06/03/page,2,daily_gifdump_30_gifs.html
alone does not seem to cause any problem.

Also, using about:config and all its options to clean up memory
(GC/CC/Minimize) does not help...

So I assume there is a memory leak somewhere that reveals itself under
high usage.
