[Bug 1294239] Re: dnsmasq preventing DNS lookup with firepass sslvpn

2014-03-23 Thread GNUbee40
Thank You for your help so far. resolvconf is installed, Result of "dpkg
-s resolvconf" attached below.

I dont have /etc/resolv.conf, but /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head -
and ./base. No symlink to run/resolvconf either. It only contains one
empty folder, "interface", and one empty file, "postponed-update".

Even more puzzling "dpkg -s dnsmasq" says the package is not
installed??? So why does disabling it in network manager break the dns
lookup then?

Maybe the changes in Mint to the Ubuntu system are more profound than I first
assumed. I was pretty sure dnsmasq was involved in this error after reading
various blog and forum posts and therefore found it relevant to report the
error here.
I am sorry to waste your time. I did report the error to Mint. Sadly they did
not react so far.

[Bug 1294239] Re: dnsmasq preventing DNS lookup with firepass sslvpn

2014-03-20 Thread GNUbee40
Did that before and did it again today. The result: No DNS lookup at all -
inside or outside VPN. Actually I cannot test the view server when dnsmasq is
disabled because I cannot even connect to the vpn in FF, even if try to connect
directly to the IP address. I can enter username, password and OTP at the login
page, but the tunnel will not build up. The page keeps connecting forever.
Anyway - I will rather connect by IP adress to the view server than loosing DNS
lookup altogether. Seems dnsmasq is indispensable for this now.

 Linux 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:41:14 UTC 2012 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux

lshw output is attached below.

Firefox 26.0 with F5 Network Access plugin, Ver. 7080.2012.1101.1

VMware Horizon View Client, V. 2.1.0 Build 1213173

Details about the error: (you cannot reproduce this as this a classified
access)

Connect to gateway (server.domain.dk) via Firefox. After input of
username and password on startpage I receive an one-time-password. After
typing it the ssl-vpn builds up without problem.

Start up Vmware Horizon View Client. Type in server address of View server
(XXX-esa.domain.dk).
Expected behaviour: Connect to server and ask for username and password.
What happens: Server time out, cannot resolve hostname.

I aquired the IP.adress of the view server. Instead of xxx-esa.domain.dk
I typed ###.###.###.### in the View Client and it connected as expected.

Conclusion: Domain name in View Client could not be resolved. This was
not a problem with Ubuntu 10.10.

I would like to add that I also have problems with network connectivity
on a Virtual Machine (Win Xp) installed in the same system. Virtual box
log states, that resolv.conf cannot be accessed, thus NAT services by
Virtual Box are non-functional.

[Bug 1294239] [NEW] dnsmasq preventing DNS lookup with firepass sslvpn

2014-03-18 Thread GNUbee40
Public bug reported:

I am using Linux Mint 13 (based on Ubuntu 12.04).
Since upgrading I could not access my workdesktop. This solution uses a F5
firepass plugin in Firefox to create a sslvpn tunnel. Then I connect to my
virtual desktop by VMware View Client.
The F5 firepass connection would build up without problems. But the Vmware View
Client would fail to connect to the View Server with the error message "Could
not resolve hostname". After aquiring the IP address of the View Server I could
connect again without trouble.
It seems the dnsmasq package prevents dns lookup in this setting. But disabling
it in network manager broke DNS lookup altogether.

[Bug 271755] Re: variable rate mp3 have wrong length

2011-03-22 Thread GNUbee40
This problem seemed to have been fixed in Jaunty 9.04 and, for me, has
reappeared in 10.10. It seems that bitrates are now only showed in discrete
values of 32, 64, 128, 144, 196 and so on.
Interestingly, VLC shows different overall-bitrates than Rhytmbox and Nautilus.
But when looking further in Functions - Media Information - Statistics, VLC
also shows the bitrate of Indata with the same wrong value.
Once again, in Jaunty the bitrates were shown in continuous numbers, each song
had its own bitrate, so VBR files were clearly read correctly. When did this
regression occur - and how?
BTW, WMP mostly misreads the length and bitrate of VBR MP3s as well, while
Winamp reads them reliably.

[Bug 496221] Re: Gnome power manager default thresholds for critical hibernate/shutdown are too low

2011-01-09 Thread GNUbee40
Hi! I chose to reactivate this error because it persists in 10.10.
Power manager seems not able to estimate the battery state. It keeps saying
(Estimating...). The battery then runs down until red state without any kind of
warning.
Also there are problems with the power management of my Ralink WLAN. It
frequently is unable to connect if run on battery, or suddenly might disconnect.
The fix zsolt provided in #9 (never thanked you, man) worked with slight
modifications under 9.04. Have not bothered to apply it to 10.10, because I
mostly don't run my battery down more than 40 %.

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty, karmic] Sound muted after boot

2009-12-21 Thread GNUbee40
Re #81: Dear Mr. Chen. Thanx for your efforts! However, I don't understand what
you're saying. Powerdown symptoms?
When and how was this fixed? I still have no sound on login. Using the fix #38
will work ONLY for the Master level and PCM level which are successfully
restored on boot. But all other settings still get muted including front and
headphones, which means - all output is still muted. Thus, running "alsactl
restore" on every login is the only functioning workaround for me right now.
If I understand you right this won't be fixed before April 2010?
Is Pulseaudio the culprit in all this?

[Bug 339891] Re: [Jaunty] wireless rt2860 not connecting to WPA

2009-11-22 Thread GNUbee40
I would like to stress, that WPA (TKIP) and WPA2 (AES) always have been
functional. The problem is mainly related to connecting to Routers which offer
both Encryption methods at the same time = mixed Cypher. This is standard
setting on most routers for compatibility.
WPA Enterprise has also been problematic. Thus reports about accessing
Institutional or Corporate Networks with the new driver are needed.
For me, the Jaunty driver (1.8.1.0) has ceased to work reliably also in single
cypher (maybe a problem with the router). For now i have downgraded to 1.7.1.1.
Will test 9.10 soon.

[Bug 372169] Re: Java: Webbank logon applet freezes Firefox

2009-07-22 Thread GNUbee40
Hello there!

There seems to happen nothing with this bug, which still persist: 9 time of 10
FF freezes, when the Webbank applet is started.
Java Console shows that this happens when a live-connect session is attempted.
There are numerous reports on the www about broken live-connect support under
FF3. I also read, that the live-connect method is on the way out as a
authentication routine. Never the less, I was under the impression the guys
from Mozilla had the will and know-how to fix this problem. Clearly, this
hasn't quite happened yet.
In the mean time I can announce a peculiar workaround for this bug: When
accessing this live-connect test page
http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/samples/ColorBlockApplet.html
not only it works correctly, but subsequently, live-connect also succeeds when
logging into webbank. I can log in and out numerous time within the same FF
session. As soon as I restart FF I need to load the test applet again prior to
webbanking, otherwise FF continues to freeze.
FF under Windows XP does NOT show this strange behavior.
I hope someone here can make something out of this and maybe shed some light on
the mechanisms.

Regards

[Bug 339891] Re: [Jaunty] wireless rt2860 not connecting to WPA

2009-06-18 Thread GNUbee40
Hello Everyone!

I guess it is important to sort Driver related problems from Router related
ones!
I run Ubuntu Jaunty with unmodified rt2860 staging driver (that makes it ver.
1.8.1.0 I guess - forgot how to check it), but a modified RT2860.dat file,
which enables N-speeds. I currently use Network manager ver. 0.7.0.100.
We have 3 different APs in our shared flat. One of it is the D-Link DIR-635.
Connection to this router can be troublesome: prolonged authentication time,
failure to connect, sudden loss of connection, or loss of SMB or internet
connections while staying associated to the router. In the last case the router
cannot be reached by Ping either, even though connection seems to be
maintained. I'd like to stress, that this router seems to show similar problems
with various Windows clients: they get connected to the router, but not to the
internet! This occurs rather randomly and might be related to running the
Router in mixed 802.11 mode (n,g,b),
With the Belkin 54 G (802.11g+WPA) and the Level One AP (802.11g+WPA2) there
seems to be no such trouble.
Right now I am connected to the DIR-635. Settings are: Mixed 802.11 Mode
(n,g,b), WPA Auto, Cypher set to TKIP (WPA). It can be set to AES (WPA2) as
well, but I find it slows Authentication a lot, sometimes so much that NM jumps
to the Belkin instead. However, for some time I ran the router with Cypher:
AES; WPA mode: WPA2, without major trouble.
I presently cannot connect to WPA Enterprise network at my university
(eduroam). This was possible with earlier versions of the driver.
To round things up: testing connections with different routers or testing
routers with different clients might be essential to get a better grip of what
the driver trouble consists of. Some of the newer routers with Draft n have
their own issues. For sure is, that mixed cypher continues to be non-functional
both with WPA Personal and Enterprise. The first patch seems to work for some,
but there is at least 1 case reporting total loss of connectivity to encrypted
networks after applying it.

I have a (somewhat) working connection now, so I am reluctant to try both later
drivers or patches. But I would like to participate in an ordered approach to
sort this out.
Regards

I do not use desktop effects as these have been deactivated since Jaunty and
cannot be reactivated, probably due to graphics issues.
The error occurs when one of the windows is set to be always on top. Start up 2
windows (e.g. Nautilus). Then start up Rythmbox and minimize to tray. Test:
Maximizing Rythmbox works. Set first window to be always on top. Test: Rythmbox
maximizes correctly behind the"always-on-top" window. Then minimize RB. Bring
second window into foreground. Test: Rythmbox will now stay behind the first
AND the second window, instead of maximizing behind the first always-on-top
window. As soon as first window is no longer alway-on-top, the error disappears.
I guess this error is introduced by the new GNOME desktop functionalities.

[Bug 384994] [NEW] Rythmbox doesn't come back to foreground from tray

2009-06-08 Thread GNUbee40
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hi!
I am not sure, if this is a GNOME problem or a Rythmbox problem.
The action: several windows open. Firefox is maximized in Foreground. Rythmbox
minimized to tray. When clicking on Rythmbox icon the Rythmbox window does not
appear in the foreground, even though the Rythmbox button in the bottom bar of
the Desktop appears and is shaded. Minimizing Firefox reveals Rythmbox window
in the background. Clicking on the Rythmbox tray icon repeatedly will not bring
the Rythmbox into foreground. But clicking the Rythmbox button in the bottom
bar repeatedly will.

[Bug 384989] [NEW] Playback stops unexpectedly at end of song

2009-06-08 Thread GNUbee40
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This bug seems to be reported before. But here I will report additional
problems.
The action: playback directly from the library (no playlist); 120 songs
selected by entering term in search box; Shuffle mode activated, Crossfading
activated (0 secs). Playback stops randomly at the end of a song. Pressing
'Play' again might resume playback - or not. Pressing 'Next', never the less,
will play the next song. However, later on there might be two songs playing at
the same time! Pressing Play/pause will pause one of the overlying tracks. Then
playback might halt again after the underlying track has finished. As you can
see, the behavior is somewhat unstable, which is underlined by occasional
hangups in playback (brief pauses). The latter doesn't seem to correlate well
with system load or memory usage.
I have been using Rythmbox for a year now and never experienced this behavior
before. I wonder if this has something to do with the system was woken up after
being in suspend mode.
Restarting Rythmbox did not resolve the issues.
If it is desired I will attach debug logs.

[Bug 372157] Re: Openoffice Calc- Print range lost when copying sheet

2009-05-08 Thread GNUbee40
Yes!
Usually OOo will define print areas when Print Preview is clicked.
But that does NOT happen, when the sheet is a copy of a already existing sheet!

Try to copy a spreadsheet to a new location in the same file. Then click
Print Preview. Nothing is shown at all. No print areas defined, and the
page settings are gone as well.

Now try to move or copy a spreadsheet to a new file. Click print
preview. The preview is shown, but the page settings (Landscape, align
tables etc.) are lost.

What this means: When a spreadsheet is copied, both print areas and page
settings are lost in the process, and no new print areas are defined, when
Print Preview is clicked.
When a spreadsheet is copied to a new file, print areas and page settings are
lost as well, but new print areas are defined when Print Preview is clicked.

[Bug 372169] Re: Java: Webbank logon applet freezes Firefox

2009-05-05 Thread GNUbee40
Ok. Have checked plugins by accessing about:plugins in FF. Have attached the
HMTL. Seems only the classic plugin is installed.
The error now appears more regularly. The last 5 times i tried it crashed.
Still would like to log this...

[Bug 372169] [NEW] Java: Webbank logon applet freezes Firefox

2009-05-05 Thread GNUbee40
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

We already know of problems with Java and Webbanking starting under Intrepid. I
also experienced these.
Now with Jaunty however things are a little bit different.
On some occasions when opening the logon to my Webbank, the applet won't start
and Firefox freezes. However this is not reproducible. Next time i try the
applet might load instantly.
I read on the net, that the pop-up blocker of Firefox might interfere with
these applets. But deactivating it does not prevent the error from happening.
I am using two danish banks. Links provided below:

I am using the Sun Java 6 applet. (See attachement)

Tried the error console of Firefox but found only errors regarding CSS
style sheets of the page. If someone knows appropriate logs i could post
I would be thankful.

[Bug 372157] [NEW] Openoffice Calc- Print range lost when copying sheet

2009-05-05 Thread GNUbee40
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

Hi!

I use Ubuntu 9.04 updated per 05.05.2009. The problem i report has
existed in previous versions of openoffice also.

Every time i copy a spreadsheet to a new location, either in the same
file or to a new one, the print ranges of the sheet and the page
settings are lost. That means i have redefine areas to be printed and
setup the page all over again. Also I wonder, why Open Office won't make
auto print ranges, when i click Print Preview. If I don't define print
ranges manually, clicking Print Preview will show nothing at all.
