[Bug 1493208] [NEW] local-avahi-notification doesn't show its message localized
Public bug reported: This is a followup to bug #1478249 and this side effect commit: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/update- notifier/ubuntu/revision/863 So in there the domain name used for localization is fixed. But that's not enough, the message local-avahi-notification displays is still not localized in a fresh build. The reason is that the locale is not specified. In other binaries of update-notifier there is a call to gtk_init() which does that. This one has no gtk_init(), so we need to manually call setlocale(). [Bug 1241028] Re: Menu not translated
Hi Gunnar I think the other patch had some merit by reducing the number of strings a bit, but given that here we work with fixed number values, this solution should not pose much problem from translation POV. I have been thinking on the ngettext problem, and my best guess is that this happened because the a-l-m code runs inside the g-c-c process, but uses its own translation domain. This is when ngettext does not work, as it uses the default translation domain of the main process - g-c-c here. So you would need dngettext() to explicitly set the translation domain: http://www.valadoc.org/#!api=glib-2.0/GLib.dngettext -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241028 Title: Menu not translated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/activity-log-manager/+bug/1241028/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Approved the template, it has got imported. However as the po files are not in the same directory as the pot, those are still in the queue. Is it really necessary for them to have an own directory? [Bug 376464] Re: Software Centre, Synaptic should point to the DDTP
Matthew, Nightmonkey is there as a stop-gap measure, because LP is not as perfect as we would like it to be. In an ideal world, such UI buttons would lead directly to the Launchpad template. That certainly would need a lot more work to work than wiring in a button with a link and two variables. Making sure that it's possible to really contribute would be easy - just change the permission of ddtp-ubuntu from restricted to open. This would mean also some extra work to make sure updates are pushed out in a timely manner to make sure nothing "bad"[0] sticks there for a long time. You are also right that the ubuntu.hu domain is not really reliable at large - for example, even I don't know the owner, it's a miracle that we are still afloat :). It is possible however to run an own copy of it, if Infrastructure is willing to host that terrible spaghetti code (its author said something like this!). [0] For example, Facebooks translation is entirely crowdsourced and there is no "native QA team" to check the new translations before they go live. A Hungarian entrepreneur thus made his company "advertised" on the login page of Facebook - for a few hours until the "translation" was noticed and reverted. Daily bzr exports, nor "when mvo has time to push them live" are clearly not the desirable update frequency needed for blindly trusting the community. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376464 Title: Software Centre, Synaptic should point to the DDTP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ddtp-ubuntu/+bug/376464/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1072828] Re: [REGRESSION] release upgrader tool became untranslated
This happens because of the fix of the above mentioned bug was not perfect: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-release-upgrader/trunk/revision/2574#DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeMain.py Here we can see that the gettext.bindtextdomain and gettext.textdomain calls are inside of the 'if' branch. This is wrong, these should be called anyways, and only the localedir should depend on the datadir option (I have a gut feeling that the current working directory + mo isn't good either - ./setup.py build_i18n puts the mo files into build/mo. But this is offtopic here, and didn't tested it much.). I'll propose a branch, which results in this nicely localized screen. Also bug 1059641 is solved by it too, as those strings are coming from the same file as these - but they disappeared too quickly and I couldn't make a screenshot. So I'll just mark that bug as a duplicate. ** Attachment added: "After the proposed fix" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1072828/+attachment/3471089/+files/upgrade-fixed.png ** Branch linked: lp:~kelemeng/ubuntu-release-upgrader/bug1072828 ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Assignee: (unassigned) => Gabor Kelemen (kelemeng) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072828 Title: [REGRESSION] release upgrader tool became untranslated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1072828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 982924] Re: "Record you passphrase" notification untranslated
Hi Nobuto Thanks for your work on this bug. You are right, if the description is in many lines, then it cannot start in the same line as the Description: string. This is documented here: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch- controlfields.html#s-f-Description intltool works consistently with this documentation, that's why it did not appeared translated for you first. With the change in the paste the localization should work fine, so please commit that into the proposed branch too. I have learned about this behavior in bug #514401. update-notifier displays the content of these .note files, and it tolerates multiple line long Description fields. You can report this if you want, but I think we could just live with this bug, as it normally does not affect anything, until we want to start localizing the strings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982924 Title: "Record you passphrase" notification untranslated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/982924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1072828] Re: [REGRESSION] release upgrader tool became untranslated
Hi Brian This was not an upgrade to quantal, but a dist-upgrade of quantal, because of a package had to be removed. Sorry if this was not obvious. The file you mention was last touched in august: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 71017 aug 16 22:01 /var/log/dist- upgrade/main.log so this won't help us. [Bug 1019441] Re: Please update the ubuntu-docs Precise package with translations for 12.04.1
Hi Jeremy Good point. Fortunately, there is no need to hurry, we have some time to think. Looking at schedules, there is a LanguageTranslationDeadline on 9th August, which means we should aim test language packages to be uploaded a week before. Precise language packs are scheduled for export on Tuesdays, that puts the deadline to the 30th. July, if the goal is to have the latest translations. On the other hand, the language pack update schedule is the one invented for normal releases, and does not take into account point releases. I think we can and should change that :). I'll ask dpm about this as soon as he is back from his holidays, early next week.
