2018-10-22 Thread Gaele Strootman
I didn't enable the apparmor profile either, and I haven't done a clean
install in ages.

BTW I just read https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/apparmor.html
and learned that you need to do

  sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox /etc/apparmor.d/disable/

to keep the firefox profile disabled (otherwise it will reappear after a
reboot).

[Bug 1631627] Re: Unity 8 freezes on Nouveau

2016-10-23 Thread Gaele Strootman
Same with Nvidia GT750M (on Macbook Pro). The freeze happened while
trying to use Browser.

When I returned to Unity 7:
- desktop scaling was screwed. Icons and window contents were too big compared
to menu and title bars
- I suddenly had an Amazon icon in the launcher. When clicking on it Browser
opened with an Amazon page, and my desktop froze again.

(Ubuntu sent an automatic error report when I logged in again, BTW)

2016-02-09 Thread Gaele Strootman
Finally I found the courage to try commit bisecting the kernel. This is
the result:

4eebd5a4e72697aac25a8a57d3f888a9d5f80370 is the first bad commit
commit 4eebd5a4e72697aac25a8a57d3f888a9d5f80370

apple-gmux: lock iGP IO to protect from vgaarb changes

As GMUX depends on IO for iGP to be enabled and active, lock the IO at
vgaarb level. This should prevent GPU driver for dGPU to disable IO for
iGP while it tries to own legacy VGA IO.

This fixes usage of backlight control combined with closed nvidia
driver on some Apple dual-GPU (intel/nvidia) systems.

On those systems loading nvidia driver disables intel IO decoding,
disabling the gmux backlight controls as a side effect.
Prior to commits moving boot_vga from (optional) efifb to less optional
vgaarb this mis-behavior could be avoided by using right kernel config
(efifb enabled but vgaarb disabled).

This patch explicitly does not try to trigger vgaarb changes in order
to avoid confusing already running graphics drivers. If IO has been
mis-configured by vgaarb gmux will thus fail to probe.
It is expected to load/probe gmux prior to graphics drivers.

2015-05-24 Thread Gaele Strootman

$ modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found.

The make.log for -18 is exactly the same as the one for -16.

In /var/lib/dkms/bcmwl/6.30.223.248+bdcom/ a module for -18 has been
build.

However, this symlink is missing:

[Bug 316364] Re: Unable to unmaximize window when running on dual monitors

2012-02-06 Thread Gaele Strootman
My setup:

Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64
Nvidia card with Nouveau driver
Laptop monitor 1440x900
External monitor 1680x1050

This is what I got (starting with both monitors enabled):

Open Thunderbird, move it to external monitor, set window size to
maximized, close Thunderbird, disable external monitor, open
Thunderbird: Thunderbird is maximized on laptop screen - OK

Open Thunderbird, move it to external monitor, set window size to
1500x950, close Thunderbird, disable external monitor, open Thunderbird:
Thunderbird is maximized on laptop screen - OK

Open Firefox, move it to external monitor, set window size to maximized,
close Firefox, disable external monitor, open Firefox: Firefox is
maximized on laptop screen - OK

Open Firefox, move it to external monitor, set window size to 1500x950,
close Firefox, disable external monitor, open Firefox: Firefox is
running but not visible - NOT OK!

In the latter case, if I re-enable the external monitor Firefox appears
to be maximized on the external monitor.

[Bug 316364] Re: Unable to unmaximize window when running on dual monitors

2009-03-12 Thread Gaele Strootman
Update after some more testing:

- As described in the original bug description the probleem occurs when Firefox
has had an unmaximized size that is bigger than the small monitor resolution.
- Work-around for Firefox: use the resize option of the Web Developer extension
to resize the window to e.g. 1024x768 (see attached screenshot); then restart
Firefox.

[Bug 316364] Re: Unable to unmaximize window when running on dual monitors

2009-03-12 Thread Gaele Strootman
Update:

- "Save and Quit' with several tabs is not necessary.
- I'm not sure about step 1 (maximize Firefox). I can't remember exactly, and
right now I'm completely unable to get a sanely sized Firefox.
- This is really ugly.

[Bug 316364] Re: Unable to unmaximize window when running on dual monitors

2009-03-12 Thread Gaele Strootman
I experience the same behaviour with Firefox.

Using:
- laptop screen 1440 x 900
- external monitor 1680 x 1050
- Nvidia Twinview
- Ubuntu 8.10

Steps to reproduce:
- maximize Firefox on the external screen
- open a view tabs
- close Firefox with "Save and Quit"
- restart laptop with external monitor disconnected
- start Firefox

Firefox is now shown on the laptop screen, maximized at 1440 x 900, but
without window borders and controls.

Move is not possible.
Resize is not possible.
Maximize/Unmaximize seem to be registered while using Alt-F5/Alt-F10 (an
Unmaximize entry appears in the menu), but have no effect on window size.

Perhaps this is a Mozilla bug? See also

[Bug 178652] Re: No access to non-default sound format profiles

2008-06-30 Thread Gaele Strootman
I encountered this same bug.

Under Edit Profiles the following profiles are available:
- CD Quality, Lossless
- CD Quality, Lossy
- Voice, Lossless
- Voice, Lossy
- CD Quality, AAC
- CD Quality, MP3

All are active.

However, under Output Format only the first 4 profiles are available.
Changing the "active" field on any of the profiles does not have any
effect.

This made MP3 and AAC appear in the available Output Formats:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/195483/comments/19

There seem to be 2 bugs here:

- technical: the "active" field does not work
- usability: the "active" field should not be selectable if the underlying
codecs are not available

[Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect

2007-07-26 Thread Gaele Strootman
Using xingheader instead of xingmux (see comment #17) fixed the problem
for me. It seemed to worked for a while, so I stopped paying attention.

Recently I dug into it again and noticed that the problem reappeared, at
least since January 9th 2007.

Right now:
- "xingheader ! id3v2mux" results in wrong bitrate and track time
- "xingmux ! id3v2mux" results in wrong track time in Totem and Nautilus.

I'm not sure if my problem is exactly the same, but it's pretty close.
Written data DVD's aren't detected at all by my DVD writer.

1. Empty DVD's are recognized as such, and I can write to them with CD/DVD
Creator.
2. Once written, if I re-enter the DVD it's not detected at all. It's not
mounted.

However:
3. The DVD is detected and mounted by my CD-ROM writer in another computer.

I tried this with several DVD's, including some old ones written on

[Bug 67028] Could not install "firestarter"

2006-10-19 Thread Gaele Strootman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

When upgrading from Dapper to Edgy RC1 update-manager could not install
"firestarter".

A little later I got the message "Could not install the upgrades" and
"installArchives() failed". Not sure if this is related to the same error.

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 64155] sound juicer should warn for jitter errors

2006-10-05 Thread Gaele Strootman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

When ripping cd's Sound Juicer tries to correctly read the tracks. If it
doesn't immediately succeed (because of scratches on the cd) it wil keep
on trying at slower cd speeds. Eventually it will produce a result.
Sound Juicer will not tell you though whether the resulting file
contains errors or not. There is no way to find out other than to listen
to each file.

E.g. CDex on Windows will label each resulting file OK or X? if it
contains errors.

Sound Juicer should warn for errors too.

[Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect

2006-09-16 Thread Gaele Strootman
Same problem.

Dapper 6.06.1
Soundjuicer 2.14.4
GStreamer Pipeline: audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc
preset=1001 ! xingmux ! id2v3mux

My results:

- the bitrate is shown correctly in Nautilus, Totem and Rhythmbox
- the track time is shown correctly in Rhythmbox
- the track time is wrong in Totem and Nautilus
