[Bug 495696] Re: blueman fails to release rfcomm0 when "disconnect device" is used with SP or DUN profile connections

2013-12-15 Thread Gaz Davidson
Same problem in Ubuntu 13.10, blueman 1.23 when connecting to a GPS
sharing app on my phone over rfcomm. If the connection is lost at some
point then I have to restart bluetoothd before I can connect again. I've
tried using `rfcomm release rfcomm0` which deletes the serial device in
/dev/ but the blueman UI still thinks something is in use.

Same issue on Dell XPS L501X with "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad", except I

Could this have something to do with the problem?:

[Bug 975469] [NEW] /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk is an empty dir after upgrade to precise

2012-04-06 Thread Gaz Davidson
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade, this dir is empty when it should be a symlink to
java-6-openjdk-amd64. This causes jvisualvm to fail to start as it can't
find a jdkhome.

The problem can be fixed by removing the directory:

sudo rm -R /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk

Then reinstalling the offending package:

apt-get install --reinstall default-jre-headless

[Bug 970475] Re: eclipse doesn't start !MESSAGE Missing imported package com.ibm.icu.text_0.0.0.

2012-04-01 Thread Gaz Davidson
The workaround in #2 causes failures in plugins later on.

I'm unable to install the Android SDK unless I do it as root, then when
I run again as my normal user the plugins are in an errored state
because one of them has a dependency on com.ibm.icu (Plug-in
"com.ibm.icu" version "4.4.2.v20110208" referenced by this feature is
missing.)

[Bug 967924] Re: rhythmbox DAAP plugin causes crash when saving settings

Just removed rhythmbox, removed dobey's ppa and installed rhythmbox from
standard 12.04 repositories. Confirmed this is fixed as of today's
updates.

I guess I don't have access to mark this as resolved though. Can someone
do that?

[Bug 940749] [NEW] Segfault in _elementtidy.so when parsing trivial HTML.

2012-02-24 Thread Gaz Davidson
Public bug reported:

Some files cause elementtidy so crash the Python interpreter. This has
been tested on 2 different 64-bit machines running Ubuntu 11.10 (mine
and the attached test was also run by dtmbmw325i in #ubuntu on
freenode).

I have attached a minimal example file and script which demonstrates the
problem.

In an effort to debug this I downloaded the sources, patched, recompiled
and installed... The problem then went away!

I guess that this would suggest an old problem in a version of gcc from
February 2005; suggest recompiling and repackaging to fix.

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

It's badly named, should say rightmost display. I worked around it by
switching my monitor outputs, which sucks as a general solution but
worked in my case

[Bug 579822] Re: Large window size crashes compiz

2011-02-02 Thread Gaz Davidson
I have this in issue in Ubuntu 10.10, Compiz 0.8, Gnome 2.32.0. I am
using AMD's proprietary driver and have a 3 monitor desktop at
5760x1920. Resizing a GTK window larger than 3104 pixels wide causes my
session to crash and I'm returned to the login screen.

Chromium can be resized without problems but FireFox causes me to be
logged out, as do all Gnome apps that I tried. I also tried KolorPaint,
a KDE app, this also caused the problem.

I've attached the image I used to find the maximum size, in case that's
useful to someone.

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2011-01-12 Thread Gaz Davidson
Disclaimer: I know nothing of GTK or Cairo.

First up, the source:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-system-monitor/tree/src/load-graph.cpp

This comment:

// FIXME:
// on configure, g->frames_per_unit =
g->draw_width/(LoadGraph::NUM_POINTS);
// knock FRAMES down to 5 until cairo gets faster

This value is set to 10, not 5. I haven't profiled it, but that comment
would suggest cairo_curve_to is the problem. The canvas appears to be
stateless, redrawing everything every frame. The obvious solution is to
implement a cache for the graph rather than blaming Cairo for the speed.

Cairo must have ways to manipulate graphics buffers. Keep two around as part of
the load graph state, one for the background and one for the graph. Draw in a
cyclic manor each frame like so:
1) Work out a width based on the last drawn position and the current one. Blank
it out from left to right, wrap around if necessary.
2) Draw the line segments from the last drawn position to the current "cursor
position"
3) Stamp down the graph background onto the canvas
4) Draw the line segments in two halves, giving the illusion of a scrolling
buffer

This will remove 99.9% of the smooth line drawing calls, it will cost a
small memory cache, but that's the reason we have RAM anyway.

Workarounds:

a) Do as the comment says, set frames_per_unit to 10 instead of 5, this will
draw less line segments. This will call g_timeout_add with a larger interval.
b) Set the default /apps/procman/graph_update_interval to something higher, say
2000 or 5000. This would just suck.
c) Draw jagged lines instead of smooth ones, this may be faster.

[Bug 257713] Re: No thumbnail for .svgz file

2010-01-24 Thread Gaz Davidson
I can't see thumbnails for svgz files either. Not sure if this is a
regression or a different problem, because opening in EoG no longer
fixes the thumbs.

If I rename a svg file to svgz it does re-render the thumb, if I rename
a svgz file to svg then it doesn't re-render it. librsvg appears to be
built with --with-svgz, but I'm not sure.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10
