[Bug 225749] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 LiveCD fails to boot when RTL8102E LAN chip is enabled - with modprobe abnormal exit on ICH8M laptop
I experienced this bug when trying to start Ubuntu 18.04.2 Live DVD on an ASUS R515M. What happened was that the screen was blank, at first I thought the issue is with UEFI... I edited grub boot options for Linux (adding "nomodeset" instead of "quite splash") and then I saw the logs about r8169, where loading stopped. I tried following the instructions from this bug report to disable LAN from the BIOS, but to no avail (there wasn't such an option, at least I couldn't find it). The workaround finally was to add to the grub boot options: "modprobe.blacklist=r8169". With this I managed to start Ubuntu Live DVD. May be useful for someone :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225749 Title: Ubuntu 8.04 LiveCD fails to boot when RTL8102E LAN chip is enabled - with modprobe abnormal exit on ICH8M laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openvz-kernel/+bug/225749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 919899] Re: Compose sequence apostrophe+c produces a cedilla instead of acute
One more short comment. Another "workaround": you may always insert the "ć" and "Ć" chars by pressing Ctrl+Shift+u and then typing the appropriate unicode codes (0106 for "Ć" and 0107 for "ć"). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919899 Title: Compose sequence apostrophe+c produces a cedilla instead of acute To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/919899/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 919899] Re: Compose sequence apostrophe+c produces a cedilla instead of acute
I guess I may have found a workaround. I use Hungarian keyboard layout with hu_HU.UTF-8 locale and I'd like to type the "ć" character with AltGr+9+c (dead_acute+c) (used in Polish and Croatian/Serbian). I have been googling and experimenting quite long to find a workaround with no success. The most interesting point was, that the file that most claimed needs the changes already contains the proper entries: /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose : "Ć" U0106 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "Ć" U0106 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "Ć" U0106 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "Ć" U0106 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "ć" U0107 # LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "ć" U0107 # LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "ć" U0107 # LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH ACUTE : "ć" U0107 # LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH ACUTE I tried changing other files as well: - /etc/console-setup/compose.ISO-8859-1.inc (I changed the lines combining dead_acute with c to result in "ć" instead of "ç", but it did not help) - adding a ~/.XCompose with the proper entries (but what for, if en_US.UTF-8/Compose already contains the proper entries?) As a last act of desperation, basing on a hint I found at http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Accented_Characters I tried adding "GTK_IM_MODULE=xim" to /etc/environment. This finally helped. Then I reverted all my previous changes (left just the one in /etc/environment), and entering "ć" is still possible. However now I see other problems with the input method (Ctrl+F doesn't work in gedit - when the IM_MODULE is not xim it works properly), so I wouldn't like to use this "hack". So my questions are: - Why are the settings in /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose not taking any effect with the default input method? (my /usr/share/X11/locale/compose.dir defines en_US.UTF-8/Compose for hu_HU.UTF-8, so it should take effect) - Why are those settings taking effect in turn when the input method is xim? - What is the default input method (I guess it's not xim), and where are those "Compose" settings that should take effect for it?
This is reproducible on Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 with firefox, terminal and gedit (with Hungarian keyboard layout). However in Skype dead_acute + c produces "ć". Is there any workaround for this problem? [Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager
Hi all, I've been watching this bug on two computers (both are constantly updated natties), and I have noticed that Skype icons appears after each second restart. So at each "odd" restart it's invisible, but at each "even" restart it's visible. I have seen checked, and it's not dependent on the login (I can log out and in, but Skype will be still in the "current state"), but the restart. I haven't applied any other workaround. I don't know whether this helps. And to join tkoun... I have switched two machines to Natty that I'm rarely using. The one that is the most used is still on Maverick, and I won't upgrade it until this bug is fixed. If it won't be fixed (maybe due to it's "Invalidity" or "Low" priority) then I may consider switching to Debian or other distro. I have seen many new Ubuntu versions at the beginning (even in alpha/beta), but this one with this bug seems to be the worse (and I'm sorry, if I need to contact my colleagues all day long by Skype, and I'm effectively unable to do that, then how should I consider this bug?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767095 Title: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 665520] [NEW] Xorg focus problems after automatic screen lock
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When I turn off a screen lock that was invoked on a screensaver timeout the following things happen: * If a Firefox window is on the top of the screen, typing to the address bar doesn't invoke auto-completion. * If I have a Skype chat window open on top, then I can't type a new message to it (it not just doesn't appear, it also doesn't get inserted) Both problems get fixed if I minimize the program to tray, and open it again (Firefox address auto-completion works and in Skype's case I can type a message). The bug can be reproduced just for the program that was on top (ie. if Skype was on top, and FF behind, then autocompletion works). It seems that the focus somehow is taken away (partly or totally) for the top application. I have to note that if I lock the screen manually then the bug also cannot be reproduced. The LD_PRELOAD trick is not working for me (on Karmic 9.10 64bit). I've got a QuickCam Express webcam, and both in Skype and Cheese I have the greenish image. [Bug 293176] Re: Ubuntu doesn't support some logitech and labtec webcams
Forgot to add: I'm using the LD_PRELOAD trick (32bit one) in a proper way (I get no error with it), because without it Skype (2.1 beta, installed from skype.com) gives a nearly full-green still webcame image, but with the trick I can see the real image, just that it's greenish. [Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6
I have the WPA network settings (with hidden SSID) saved (I managed to connect with the jaunty's 0.7.1rc4). I've tried the following: downloaded NetworkManager from their git repo, installed all prerequisites for building, and built and installed the latest version (Sep 21, with commit d548fc9a61c710076a2cf635d725586f091cb6b5 on top) (did not install anything else that they mention on http://projects.gnome.org/NetworkManager/developers/). After stopping the running network-manager, I started nm-applet. This version was trying to connect to the WPA network, but after some time it said disconnected. I stopped nm-applet, rolled back NetworkManager to the commit mentioned in my previous note (June 5, 01a1bafc1d8abee153a8aca0495c77292f4f07e3), built and installed it, and when I started nm-applet it connected automatically (and internet access was all ok). Reseting to a Sep 9 commit (aced7c25c2523b4fce5b33c31556396fce983ec0; build, install, restart) results also in getting connection automatically. Reseting in turn to the commit above the previous (Sep 10, 8d205212dcf67fa0bf4e4730bf8353f65e7059ee; build, install, restart) results in being disconnected after long trying. It's important to note, that I had to run "make clean" before building each time, then I could reproduce the above cases once more (compiled again all scenarios). So I think it's the commit from Sep 10 (8d205212dcf67fa0bf4e4730bf8353f65e7059ee) that has caused this bug. -- network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6
I also installed the version from jaunty (0.7.1~rc4.1-0ubuntu2) and it works. The version in karmic is still a development version 0.8~a~git.20080911... (there was no release after 0.7.1 as far as I see from network-manager, the latest tag I see in their git repo is 0.7.1). I see such a commit in their git repo, dated to June 5 2009: wifi: remove obsolete code clearing SSID and encryption Leave it to wpa_supplicant now; if we can't trust the supplicant to handle this, then we need to fix the supplicant. It knows better than us what needs to happen with drivers, and it already clears the encryption keys anyway. This seems to be related to our problem. So SSID and encryption related things may be disfunctional in the current state. I'm not sure they have fixed supplicant from that time on (they don't state it later in the git log). Maybe it would be worth trying whether installing from the git repo with the commit above and without it make any difference... -- network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: This happens when I choose "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer". I have tried both the 32bit and 64bit live CDs, daily builds from 2009-09-16 and alpha5. For the daily build I have a brown background screen with the mouse cursor rotating, some white "lines" going up and down and the startup sound starting and then breaking in the middle along with the screen going blank. This happens repeatedly until I shut the computer down. For alpha5 I have the same situation just that there is no sound. For alpha5 I tried installing, then it manages to start up (I can go back and forth between pages), until I say Quit and then the above scenario happens again. My setup is: Asus M2N Motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+, 4GiB Memory and a Harddrive with Ubuntu 9.04 installed (that works) and other ntfs partitions. I don't have any special cards installed on the motherboard. On another computer I've tried both CDs and they start up without any problem. The 32 bit Live CD also starts up on the problematic computer if I ran it virtually with Virtualbox (Ubuntu 9.04's host system). - Is this the same bug as Bug #428825? + I think this is not Bug #428825, because all messages (like Starting + GNOME Display Manager) say OK when I switch on console at startup. ** Description changed: This happens when I choose "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer". I think this is not Bug #428825, because all messages (like Starting - GNOME Display Manager) say OK when I switch on console at startup. + GNOME Display Manager) say OK when I switch to console at startup (the + bug occurs when X comes in after those messages). ** Attachment added: "This is the screen which I see and goes blank in some seconds (along with the startup voice broken in 2009-09-16 daily build), and then comes again (looping until I shut the computer down)." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31955154/IMG_5163.JPG -- Karmic Live CD crashes at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431216 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 431216] [NEW] Karmic Live CD crashes at startup
Public bug reported: This happens when I choose "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer".
