[Bug 1072122] Re: Backintime it does not work in ubuntu 12.10

2015-08-27 Thread Germar
Without informations about the error I can't do anything here. Anyways,
I think the original reporter tried to backup to a sshfs mount which
doesn't work because sshfs doesn't support hard-links. But the SSH mode
introduced in 1.0.12 will help here. So I'll close this bug

The examples are missing in official Ubuntu/Debian package. You can find them
in:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bit-team/backintime/trunk/view/head:/common/config-example-local
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bit-team/backintime/trunk/view/head:/common/config-example-ssh

In our PPA only the path in manpage was incorrect. They are in
/usr/share/doc/backintime-common/examples/

[Bug 409005] Re: [enhancement] Feature Request Email Notifications

2014-12-28 Thread Germar
Hi Julian,

I'm not yet sure how to implement email notifications and after one year
of working on 1.1.0 I really want to release that new major version now.
So I skipped this enhancement for now (which means it will not make it
into 1.1.0) but I'll pick this up again after the release.

2014-11-12 Thread Germar
Please report this in a new bug report filled against
https://launchpad.net/backintime (not the Ubuntu package). This has
nothing to do with this bug.

This happens because you have installed both backintime-kde4 and
backintime-gnome. As soon as you remove backintime-gnome the kde4 app
will work again. But for sure I consider this as a bug.

[Bug 1357961] Re: Missing home config for anachron and root

2014-08-17 Thread Germar
This is because 'gksu' is missing in Ubuntus official repository
dependencies. Take a look at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=735122

You can either install gksu manually with 'sudo apt-get install gksu' or
use our PPA with 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bit-team/stable sudo
apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'

You might have to move your config after this from
~/.config/backintime/config to /root/.config/backintime/config and
change ownership to root.

[Bug 1357961] Re: Missing home config for anachron and root

2014-08-17 Thread Germar
What kind of dialog does pop up to ask for your sudo password? Is it a
Terminal window or a graphical dialog?

Where is your config located at the moment? ~/.config/backintime or
/root/.config/backintime ?

Official repository uses 'su-to-root' to start backintime as root. This
will fallback to sudo if it doesn't find gksudo. But sudo doesn't change
HOME environ where gksudo does.

[Bug 1357961] Re: Missing home config for anachron and root

2014-08-17 Thread Germar
Glad to hear that you could fix it. I'm aware of anacron starting to
soon. There is already bug #1332979 with a patch. But I'm also about to
ditch anacron completely and integrate it's function into BIT. Didn't
decide yet.

Would you agree to mark this bug as duplicate of bug #1332979?

Sure. If you switch users you'll have a new dbus session. But BIT has
still the old session in cache. So it will fail. Not sure yet how to
handle this. I'll think about it. Did you switch users last time, too?

If that returned no errors, it must be related to missing environ variables.

'copy links' will replace all symlinks with it's target folder. 'copy
unsave links' will only replace those symlinks which point outside the
included folders or are absolute (start with '/'). So yes, BIT will do
this with 'copy links'.

[Bug 1256703] [NEW] Shutdown dialog doesn't shutdown automatically after given time

2013-12-01 Thread Germar
Public bug reported:

New shutdown/reboot/logout dialog (transparent UI introduced in 13.04)
doesn't proceed after a given time. So after running 'gnome-session-quit
--power-off' in a script the user will have to press a button or the
system will never shutdown.

In old dialog (= 12.10) there was a countdown starting at 60sec which
shutdown the system after ran out. This made it possible to shutdown a
system automatically from command line without extra user interaction.

The dbus method which triggers the dialog indicate that there is such a
function:
~$ qdbus org.gnome.Shell /org/gnome/SessionManager/EndSessionDialog
[...]
method void org.gnome.SessionManager.EndSessionDialog.Open(uint type, uint
arg_1, uint max_wait, QListQDBusObjectPath inhibitors)

I'd expect 'max_wait' is seconds until proceed shutdown. But it doesn't
work.

-
I know there is an alternative with 'sudo shutdown -h now' and I also know how
to make that sudo command password-less. But that would only work on my own
system. I need this functionality for a OSS project where I don't want to mess
around in users '/etc/sudoers' file. All other Desktop Environs I know have
such a feature except Unity = 13.04

[Bug 1256300] Re: backintime ends with error 6144

2013-11-30 Thread Germar
You've to divide it by 256 (don't ask me why, I've no clue) so you will get
rsync return code 24:
24 Partial transfer due to vanished source files

One or more files changed before rsync could transfer them. Rsync will
transfer them next time again. You can browse the snapshot log to see
which files where effected. But normally you don't need to worry about
it.

Only if those files is a db (MySQL, Postgres, ...) you should rather
exclude the files, create a db dump with custom user-callback script and
backup only the dump.

[Bug 1181344] Re: python-keyring timeout on import if started with sudo

2013-11-09 Thread Germar
I agree with you that this is a gnome-keyring bug (didn't know how dbus
works when I reported this)

$ cat /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.secrets.service
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.secrets
Exec=/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --foreground --components=secrets

This file is the same on all systems I tested. If I run the Exec command
with sudo the faulty systems report this:

$ sudo /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --foreground
--components=secrets

** (gnome-keyring-daemon:30328): WARNING **: couldn't create socket
directory: No such file or directory

** (gnome-keyring-daemon:30328): WARNING **: couldn't bind to control
socket: /root/.cache/keyring-9D34R9/control: No such file or directory

I created 'sudo mkdir /root/.cache' and voila no more timeout and no
more dbus exceptions :D

So the fix would be in gnome-keyring-daemon to create '$HOME/.cache' if
it isn't available.

[Bug 1181344] [NEW] python-keyring timeout on import if started with sudo

2013-05-17 Thread Germar
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:
$ sudo python
Python 2.7.3 (default, Sep 26 2012, 21:53:58)
[GCC 4.7.2] on linux2
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.
 import keyring

this will take ~25 seconds only on Xubuntu. If you do this on Ubuntu or
Kubuntu (all version 12.10) it will return immediately. Also if you
import keyring with normal user on Xubuntu it will return immediately.

It is caused by a dbus call in /usr/share/pyshared/keyring/backend.py function
