[Bug 1034164] Re: [SRU Regression] Unity 5.14 + Nux 2.14: Launcher tooltips are incomplete/missing
Hi, I enabled the proposed updates, updated unity (only), did "unity --replace" and it seems to be corrected. Thanks ! [Bug 986208] Re: Compiz does not remember user preferences upon system restart
If it may help, I use Alt+F2 and "unity --replace" every time I restart and it seems to work. It's faster than going back to CCSM. [Bug 805700]
Well this problem is quite old : it became obvious with Ubuntu 10.10 (I couldn't even start a live-CD or USB) until now. But I also had an issue with Ubuntu 10.04 : the use of compiz (by enabling the 3D effects) used to create random freezes. The workaround to these freezes was to install "compiz fusion icon", to check "indirect rendering" in its options, and to add it to startup applications. I can't say if it was related to our current problem. Most probably ? I would be glad to try any new kernel (or other changes) when I have time, but I'm not an advanced user so please explain the method(s) step by step... [Bug 805700] Re: Natty&Oneiric - intel 82945G/GZ graphics card - Intel driver fails
Dear all, We finally found a workaround : the grub option "pci=noacpi" allows to boot using intel driver ! I however have no idea to explain why it works... Here is the link that helped us : http://markmail.org/message/msojtkj4o4klho3t?q=lkml+list:org.kernel.vger.linux-kernel The problem seems to be closely linked not only to the graphics chipset, but also to this particular Foxconn mother board with an intel atom processor. I hope it helps. ** Description changed: + (see post #12 for a temporary solution) + Hi, When booting on a Natty live-USB on my computer, a gnome-panel like desktop is loaded instead of Unity. It seems to be related to a problem with the intel graphics driver : the Xorg.0.log tells "(EE)open /dev/fb0 No such file or directory" and then the vesa driver is used instead. If I create a xorg.conf file (by default there's nothing), with ' Driver "intel" ' in ' Section "Device" ', then restart X with "sudo service gdm restart", Xorg fails to load (No devices detected, Fatal server error:No screens found) and I see a command-line prompt (same result as when trying Ubuntu 10.10). If I do the same but with the line ' Driver "vesa" ', of course it works the same as without xorg.conf. Except that Xorg.0.log shows no error at all. Nevertheless, Ubuntu 10.04 works, with compiz effects activated ! The intel driver is OK in Xorg.0.log . Note that at first with 10.04 I had freezes, but they were corrected by installing compiz-fusion-icon, selecting the "indirect rendering" option, and making this change permanent. I can't say more. I'm not sure what package causes the problem. Sorry also for my bad english. Graphics card : Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) I tried every option available when booting on the live-usb (nomodeset for instance). Dear all, Sorry for the double post : I'm not used to this damned mac keyboard ! I also installed "mesa-utils" (after installing Ubuntu 11.10 because I didn't find out how to test this solution on live USB), and it didn't change anything after a reboot or "compiz --replace" or "unity --replace" or even "sudo service lightdm restart".
