Hi,
I have this bug too but I get it randomly when using Unity 3d doing normal
work, the screen become black as if the video cable is unplugged, I need to
Alt+SysReq+REISUB to reset. It doesn't happen with Unity 2d.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-28 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi Till,
I'm sorry to say that this bug returned today after my workmate tried to print
from his PC (with windows XP) through IPP: first print good, the second trash.
I've tried to search for a firmware update in the Samsung site, but found only
drivers and user guides.
I have to restate that in Natty I don't have this problem.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-23 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi Till,
I've tried several documents, with one or more pages and almost all of them
(Photos are not affected) depicts the reported strange behaviour. I noted,
however, that the garbage printed is the same with all documents test (looked
at the fist page printed).
I made another test: downloaded an Oneric daily cd on a USB key, booted the OS
and tried to print some documents: same behaviour.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-23 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Ok these are the result from various print tests with your suggested
drivers:

Recommended driver
Turned off-on printer
doc #1 - pdf document
* job 1: good
* job 2: garbage
doc #2 - odt document
* job 1: good
* job 2: garbage

pxlmono driver
Turned off-on printer
doc #1 - pdf document
* job 1: good
* job 2: garbage
doc #2 - odt document
* job 1: garbage
* job 2: good

Generic hpijs/pcl5e driver
Turned off-on printer
doc #1 - pdf document
* job 1: good
* job 2: good
doc #2 - odt document
* job 1: good
* job 2: good
doc #3 - pdf documtent- 1 page
* job 1: good
* job 2: good
doc #4 - other odt document
* job 1: good
* job 2: good
doc #4 - test print from system-config-printer
* job 1: good
* job 2: good
doc #5 - other pdf document
* job 1: good
* job 2: good

Seems that the generic driver is printing fine, it's strange since when
i've tried it it wasn't working like the other. Maybe turning off and on
the printer did the trick.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-22 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
I've scanned the output with the recommended driver and the generic driver.
They will follow this comment.
The configuration page states that the printer can emulate PCL6, PCL5e and
PostScript3.
The paper setting is the same over multiple printings.
Tried to restart the printer, but with no joy: the first print is ok, the
second garbage.

[Bug 855412] [NEW] My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-21 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Public bug reported:

Hi,
with my laser printer (Samsung ML-2570) the first print job all is fine, the
second I get loads of sheets with random characters.
Tried the printer under Natty (to be sure it isn't an hardware problem) and it
works fine.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-09-21 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi Till,
done the followed step:
* checked Save debugging information for troubleshooting in
system-config-printer
* enabled debug with cupsctl LogLevel=debug
* cleared print queue (it was empty anyway since I don't have problem with
failed job)
* done the tips in Capturing print job data): the file in the spool queue
looks good since it opens fine in evince: it's a PDf document; enabling the
queue, the printer pukes out pages of random chars

Changed the drivers as you suggested:
* with the first, no joy, prints as before;
* with the generic driver, instead of tons of sheet full of garbage, I get only
1 page with a garbled image in it.

2011-08-31 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi Marcel,
thanks for your time in trying to solve this issue!
I find out that i can trigger this bug when i try to add a file located in a
remote folder (in my case a SMB share) in either a local or a remote zip
archive.
Hope that this can help!

[Bug 730657] [NEW] Can't use 'Crop to selection' function in Gimp

2011-03-07 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Hi, this is a function that I use very ofter in my daily work.
Open an image file, from the toolbox select 'Rectangle selection' and draw a
rectangular box into the image window; from the menu (the global menu in Unity)
'Image' the 'Crop to selection' is disabled;
The strange thing is that through the right-click menu on the selection the
function is enabled.

[Bug 723624] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing after login

2011-03-02 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi Bryce,
other than apport windows popping up after login, no crash or lockup happens. I
can work normally, only few graphical glitches when scrolling windows in
gnome-terminal or chromium-browser. I'm definely affected by bug #702090, as
you can see looking at the attached dmesg file but with no consequences.

[Bug 363385] Re: normal user can't use xsane on jaunty (without installing launching sane ??)

2009-09-05 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Hi, i've this problem too with karmic, with a multifunction device epson
(scanner, printer, fax) DX9400F.

$ sane-find-scanner | grep 0x04b
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x083a) at libusb:002:009

ls -la /dev/bus/usb/002/009
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 136 2009-09-05 15:35 /dev/bus/usb/002/009

Seems to me this is still a permissions problem, since xsane recognise
the scanner if launched as root (but crashes after selecting the
scanner...).

[Bug 376462] [NEW] n-m-a should display and notify broadband operator roaming

2009-05-14 Thread Gianfranco Liporace
Public bug reported:

Hi,
in these days i've the opportunity to test a broadband usb modem (Huawei) from
Tre Italy. The modem works wonderfully, but it would be fine if the network
manager applet can notify which operator is in use since Tre Italy can do
roaming with other operators and with those, connection costs is different (and
very expensive!).

Thanks!

[Bug 335438] [NEW] Can't make a compressed file on a remote folder

The strange thing is that looking in
