[Bug 483824] [NEW] Sound becomes squeaky when multiple applications/games try to access sound devices
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm running Acer Aspire 5739G on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit and having a very strange sound problem. As far as there is one or sometimes only two active applications/games running (for example, Rythmbox alone or Rythimbox with Xmoto game), laptop and Ubuntu seems to process sound correctly. Anyway, when there is more applications trying to create sounds out of my laptop speakers, sound becomes squeaky instantly (all you can hear is making-no-sense squeak noises). This situation ALWAYS happen with these programs running at the same tame: * Rythmbox or any other application running alongside OpenTTD game. * Rythmbox or any other application running alongside i4Poker Client on Wine using PlayOnLinux. With all the other applications/games combinations this bug seems to happen less often, but it still comes out on times. I've spent about a week googling for a fix to this problem, but came with no results. By the way, as it is known that Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit is unable to detect 5739G's WiFi card while acpi is enabled, I'm booting my machine with a temporary fix mention on ubuntuforums here: http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305190 . If you have no will to check the link out: it is suggested there to turn off acpi by adding an acpi=off criterion to the boot configuration in GRUB. I don't know if disabled acpi have something to do with my sound problem, but if I boot my machine with acpi enabled (sacrificing WiFi ability), the problem seems to remain. I'd love to know if this is really a bug of Ubuntu/sound drivers or is the problem my machine specific. Thank you in advance.
