[Bug 886320] [NEW] powernap-now does nothing (should suspend)

2011-11-04 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

I have set ACTION_METHOD = 1 and STAGE2_ACTION_METHOD = 1 (1 means
suspend).

Therefore, sudo powernap-now should suspend the system.

Instead, it responds with:
Sending powernap the 'now' signal

and then does nothing.

[Bug 886183] [NEW] suspend to ram fails when mythtv backend is running

2011-11-04 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

I use an ubuntu server. When there is no mythtv installed, suspend to
ram works fine by using the command:

pmi action suspend

It suspends and then wakes up with no problem.

With mythtv-backend installed (this can be done by using the mythbuntu-
control-centre program and installing just the backend), the system
freezes when issuing the aforementioned command.

The following url may be relevant:

http://bml303.blogspot.com/2009/11/suspending-mythtv-backend.html

What the above solution seems to do is basically to start/stop some
services before suspending and after waking up.

I have not tried it yet, but anyway suspend should work out of the box,
otherwize it's a bug, right?

[Bug 884668] Re: sudo apt-get update fails to update extras repository because of unavailable public key

2011-11-02 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Thanks for your reply.

I added the extras.ubuntu.com repository manually to the
/etc/apt/sources.list. This is an ubuntu server system, not an ubuntu-
desktop system. Following your question I tried to run synaptic, uncheck
the extras repository, run an update, then check it back and run an
update again. However, the error still occured. So, was I doing
something wrong, or is this a bug? if there is a bug, then perhaps there
is an error in the installer of the ubuntu server, not the desktop one,
which may explain how the bug remained unnoticed so far.

Your fix involving requesting the key from keyserver.ubuntu.com worked
and now I can run apt-get update with no error messages.

I found out that scan does not work with any version of ubuntu, so this
is not a regression.

this card is supported by w_scan.

[Bug 783929] Re: power management does not shut down system when ups is low/critical

2011-10-31 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Dear Pedro,

yes the issue is reproducible in oneiric. Like before, I set it to
shutdown when battery is critically low, then unplugged the UPS and
waited for it to drain. Oneiric did not shut down when the UPS went low,
however just one second before the UPS ran out of power oneiric
displayed a message; I did not have time to read it, but I managed to
see the words "critically low". So it seems that the problem persists.

2011-10-31 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

This is a regression in oneiric, as this usb tuner used to work up until
natty.

How to reproduce the problem:

first, enable proprietary drivers for the card:

system settings | additional drivers | Firmware for DVB cards | Activate

then, install necessary package for scan:

sudo apt-get install dvb-apps

then, run command to scan for channels:

sudo scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/gr-Athens > channels.conf

output:

if one uncomments the suggesteD two lines in $HOME/.vnc/xstartup, a non-

as it is) results into a minimal Desktop.

another strange behaviour (I am also filing it as a separate bug) is
that each time I press the 'D' button, the current winDow Disappears anD
reappears when I press the D button again (notice how I capitalizeD all
D letters - otherwize I woulDn't be able to file this bug using the vnc

[Bug 883805] [NEW] sound from webcam's microphone is distorted (too high pitch, too fast)

2011-10-30 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

I use a logitech webcam that has a microphone ([USB-Audio - USB Device
0x46d:0x802, recording], the sound control reports it as webcam c200).
When trying to record sounds using this microphone, the recorded sound
sounds too high pitched and too fast, like a record that is spun too
fast. The problem does not occur with the internal microphone, only with
the webcam microphone. The problem is a new one that first occurred with
oneiric, the webcam's microphone used to work up until natty.

The way to reproduce the problem is to use sound recorder and try to
record something, then play it back. it will sound too fast and too
high-pitched. Skype also cannot make a sound call.

What is interesting is that running ubuntu-bug audio asked me to record
sound using this sound device: this time my voice sounded normal,
neither fast nor high-pitched.

[Bug 874881] Re: installing gnome shell makes system unable to halt/reboot

2011-10-15 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
After some research, I discovered that the reason for this undesired
behavior was not installation of gnome-shell, but rather the "login
automatically" option, in combination with having my home folder
encrypted. Once I enabled the "login automatically" option, the
undesired behaviour (being unable to halt etc.) started.

By the way, the system should not let me enable the "login
automatically" option as long as my home folder is encrypted (just as it
does not let one have both options during installation), since this
defeats the purpose of having one's home folder encrypted.

[Bug 874881] [NEW] installing gnome shell makes system unable to halt/reboot

2011-10-15 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

After installing the gnome metapackage (which includes gnome-shell), I noticed
the following problems:
 - There is no shutdown/suspend/restart option, only a logout option. I read
that one can reach those by pressing alt after clicking on the upper right part
of the desktop, but this will not work for me.
 - sudo halt in a terminal hangs up the system
 - the unity desktop gets broken, by missing the sidebar

All this happened after I installed gnome-shell, before everything
worked ok

[Bug 816501] Re: Cannot synchronize ~/Music folder, with "This folder cannot synchronized because it contains one or more folders that are already synchronized"

2011-07-28 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Hi, thanks for the tip. Yes, subscribing to the folder using ubuntuone-
control-panel-gtk worked. So, if there is a bug, it is with Nautilus
integration with ubuntu one; but since I cannot make it happen again, I
suppose this bug should be closed.

[Bug 808440] Re: empathy shows new msn contacts as offline

2011-07-11 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 801725 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801725

Hi,

I don't think this bug is a duplicate of bug 801725. First, the problem
reported in this bug only affects msn accounts; all other accounts are
unaffected. Second, only newly added contacts are shown as offline; the
rest are shown correctly. For these two reasons, I believe that this
should be a separate bug.

Thanks,
Giorgos

[Bug 808440] [NEW] empathy shows new msn contacts as offline

2011-07-10 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

while "old"msn contacts, i.e. contacts that were already in my contact
list when I first install empahty are shown fine, however, when I add a
new msn contact, although the contact is indeed added (and the other
person sees my status as online and is able to chat with me), its status
is incorrectly shown as offline. I am able to chat with the new contact
if I select "show offline contacts", it is just that the status is shown
incorrectly.

How to duplicate the issue:

1. create a new msn contact
2. have the new contact sign in
3. notice that the status is offline

what should happen instead:
should see the status of the new contact as online

[Bug 783682] Re: sound stops after a random interval

2011-05-26 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Thanks. I created a log from PulseAudio as per given instructions and
"fortunately" the issue occured after about 15 minutes. So I started
pulseaudio using verbose output to a file, then started listening to
some music from spdif, played some youtube videos and some local files,
and suddenly all spdif output stopped. I checked and the analog output
was working. I *think* that the issue appeared while I was playing a
local video, but this may be irrelevant.

I attache the log file.

Thanks a lot.

[Bug 783929] [NEW] power management does not shut down system when ups is low/critical

2011-05-17 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have set it to shut down when UPS is low and also to shut down when
UPS is critically low. When on UPS power, the battery discharges. There
is a notification that UPS is critically low, but it does not attempt to
shut down. Then UPS battery dies and the system abruptly turns off too.

I suspect that the reason bight be that it monitors time until battery
empties, instead of monitoring percentage of battery charge. It seems
that the time to empty is incorrect, while percentage is correct.

My UPS is a Belkin

What you expected to happen: When UPS power is low/critically low, the system
should take action based on the power preferences (either hibernate or shut
down)
What actually happened: UPS power gets low/critically low and no action is
taken.
The minimal series of steps necessary to make it happen, where step 1 is "start
the program".
1. Power Management Preferences|On UPS Power|When Power is low/critically
low|Shut down
2. Pull the plug so that system runs on UPS power
3. Wait until UPS power is low

[Bug 783682] [NEW] sound stops after a random interval

2011-05-16 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

This issue appeared in Natty, sound was working OK in maverick.

Sound suddenly stops working, without the system apparently noticing (there are
still sound controls, applications play sounds but nothing comes out of the
speakers). There are some ways I can make sound reappear:
1. sudo alsa force-reload
2. rm  -rf ~.pulse && sudo alsa force-reload
3. logout, login from console, perform 2. and then login from gdm
4. restart

sometimes 1. is enough, but sometimes I need to go all way to 4.

note: ubuntu-bug audio crashes with the following message:

[Bug 783673] [NEW] banshee loses application bar

2011-05-16 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

Banshee has lost its application bar. The only way to use it is to
logout, login in ubuntu classic (not Unity), run banshee, right click on
the task bar icon, choose maximise. Then I can at least work with the
maximized window. Then, I logout and login back into unity (not ubuntu
classic). When I run banhsee, it will remember that last time it was
maximized and it will run maximized.

[Bug 780050] [NEW] Evolution does not update google contacts address book

2011-05-09 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a google account with about 300 contacts. Evolution can see them
and can update them, but when I change something from within the gmail
webpage, my changes don't show in Evolution. I tried setting the refresh
rate to 1 minute, and I also tried to restart evolution. Still the
changes don't show in Evolution. What is even stranger is that I even
tried to delete the address book and created again. Still the changes
don't show, as if it retains the address book in a local file even when
I delete it.

2007-08-15 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Indeed the new setting "exclude from connect all" should be checked if
one doesn't want an account to connect at startup. However, when this
setting is NOT checked, the account should connect at startup, and this
doesn't happen for me.

[Bug 124370] kopete does not give "connect at startup" option when creating new accouts

2007-07-06 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

According to documentation, Kopete Account Wizard, when creating a new
account, offers the option to connect at startup. This option does not
appear at all.

Kopete version: 0.12.4 (using KDE 3.5.6, Kubuntu (feisty)
4:3.5.6-0ubuntu14)

Steps to reproduce:
Settings|Configure|Accounts|New
Select a service, say icq, press next

Connect at startup option should be among options, according to
documentation

** Affects: kopete (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 91724] Re: amarok no windows+c shortcut to pause anymore

2007-06-05 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Hello,

the answer to Andrew Ash's question (What is the shortcut set to in
Amarok's Settings->Configure Global Shortcuts ?) is: the shortcut is not
set at all, while the other shortcuts (Win+Z, Win+X etc) are correctly
set.

I reopened the bug, as I can give the information asked.

Thanks a lot, it's just a small bug, and the user can correct it
himself, but it's slightly annoying...

** Changed in: amarok (Ubuntu)
   Status: Rejected => In Progress
