[Bug 2064957] [NEW] Firefox SNAP unable to authenticate via NTLM to IIS

2024-05-06 Thread Giovanni Panozzo
Public bug reported:

I have an intranet site developed with IIS, where only "Windows Authentication"
is enabled.
(http header WWW-Authenticate: has "NTLM" at its beginning)

Firefox (snap version) on Ubuntu 24.04 is unable to authenticate to that
site. I removed the snap version of firefox, installed the
mozillateam/ppa version and the authentication works perfectly.

Firefox for MacOS, Firefox for windows are able to authenticate to the site
without problems.
Chrome on Ubuntu is working too.
Only the snap version seems to be affected.

[Bug 2009825] Re: [snap] thunderbird cannot sign messages with external gnupg

2024-04-29 Thread Giovanni Rito Russo
sorry are you telling me that option in thunderbird snap
"mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg" to true is useless? and therefore yubikey 5
and yubikey 5c and similar tokens that have openpgp functions can no longer be
used on thunderbird since ubuntu 24.04 does not allow installation of deb
packages but only snap, how can we do it? I would like to point out that
Thunderbir deb packages work with external gnupgp and therefore managed to
correctly recall the private key on the token.
Is it possible that when there is something that works you delete it?

[Bug 2009825] Re: snap thunderbird cannot sign messages with external gnupg

2024-04-28 Thread Giovanni Rito Russo
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS now manages Thunderbird with only the snap package,
this makes it impossible to use openpgp private keys stored on tokens
like yubikey because even activating the
"mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg" option in the snap package it has no
effect, which instead works with thunderbird deb package. in practice it
does not recall the gnupgp keys stored in ubuntu. Is there any way to
fix this bug?

I noticed that similar problems were present in the Debian package.

[Bug 48734] Re: Home permissions too open

2021-01-16 Thread Giovanni Pelosi
Probably, behind the original decision there were also issues of home
access, required by some unprivileged services, like apache (userdir).

Today, letting all users accessing any ~/Doc,~/Pic,~/Video look like a
huge security hole (MS Windows deny this).

But anyway, today 'user' access should support user namespaces
(subuid/subgid)

This is required for rootless container development (podman, docker).

Another point is "sandbox model" by snap/flatpak.

In particular in "partial" supported scenarios: Snap+SeLinux (fedora)
and Flatpak+AppArmor (ubuntu)

2021-01-09 Thread GIovanni de Oliveira
I fixed mineee

Use the following (one at a time)

sudo -i

apt install linux-image-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,') linux-
headers-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,') broadcom-sta-dkms

modprobe -r b44 b43 b43legacy ssb brcmsmac bcma

modprobe wl

systemctl restart network-manager

Just like that, it works.

Needs to be one of those, tough (lspci | grep Network to check) :

2020-12-18 Thread Giovanni Lena
@Helmut Stult (helmut-stult) I got it working both on Manjaro and Gentoo
with kernel 5.10.1 downloaded from kernel.org with #189. On Gentoo I had
to use Manjaro's running .config obtained with make localmodconfig while
in chroot from manjaro.

It does not happen at every shutdown. It happened only at the 1st shutdown that
I did after 4 minutes of uptime. Could be snapd working for updating/upgrading

After that, all the s3cmd commands worked without the annoying SyntaxWarning

Many were the justification to this related to performance but actually

[Bug 1886584] Re: Smokeping cleared notification repeated indefinitely even if edgetrigger is yes

2020-07-11 Thread Giovanni Panozzo
The SRU template:

[Impact]

 * User receives repeated notification e-mail when an alert is triggered
on an "Alert" with option edgetrigger = yes

 * backporting because broken smokeping edgetrigger option makes smokeping
   useless in many scenarios

 * the bug is fixed upstream
 https://github.com/oetiker/SmokePing/issues/183#issuecomment-533722180
   and in Debian
 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=934170#46

[Test Case]

 * Install smokeping, add an Alert with edgetrigger = yes and a target
which uses that Alert. Configure e-mail alerting.
Point that target to ping a powered on device.
Start smokeping, wait 10 minutes, power off or disconnect these
   target device from the network.
You will receive an email with "raised" event, and then an
infinite sequence of email with "cleared" event at every
   smokeping poll (5 minutes default).
A working option edgetrigger = yes should only send one email when
target is unreachable and one when is reachable again.

[Regression Potential]

 * none known

[Bug 1877615] [NEW] Move iptables from depends to recommends

2020-05-08 Thread Giovanni via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Please move iptables from Depends to Recommends.
It's true that iptables is default in Ubuntu, but if I use nftables instead of
iptables, sshguard install iptables again even if I have removed it.
Alternatively, you can put in Depends nftables as an alternative to iptables,
but you have to change the backend in /etc/sshguard/sshguard.conf
BACKEND="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sshg-fw-nft-sets"

** Affects: sshguard (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

crashing coming out of suspend. I suggest giving it a try. Note: I do
not know why the screen was initially set to 59.xx Hz.

[Bug 1641403] Re: Kernel Oops, possibly VMWare ballooning related

2019-07-14 Thread Giovanni Panozzo
Same problem here: I have an Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS VM, 32bit, running under vmware
ESXi 6.5
The VM freezes randomly once a week. With kdump the machine crashes and leaves
me crash dumps in /var/crash

I could try with mainline 4.4.31 kernel as suggested on the last post,
but that post is almost 3 years old. Which mainline kernel would you
suggest to try now or Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS 32bit ?

[Bug 1824690] Re: proc_thermal flooding dmesg

2019-07-03 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
@colin-king,

I tried your kernel and it works!

Currently I am running linux-generic-hwe-18.04-edge kernel
5.0.0-20-generic and you're version now lags behind.

Can this be integrated onto kernel 5.0?

[Bug 1824690] Re: proc_thermal flooding dmesg

2019-05-26 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hi Colin,

I tried testing your kernel but it fails on every boot, I get initramfs
/proc/cmdline error.

Currently I am now running Ubuntu 19.04 kernel 5.0 and the error
persist. I tried uninstalling thermald but the problem is still there.

I have also installed linux-firmware 1.179, same problem.

How did you patched the kernel, can I do it using dkms?

If I disable thermald, could it harm my laptop. Is there a chance of
overheating?
