[Bug 448865] Re: GTK+ apps do not render in Kubuntu 9.10 beta

2009-10-14 Thread Giovanni Masucci
The bug has been fixed by intel (I attached to thi bug report the url to
the upstream bug report).

Well, here is the final situation:

bug comes with:
intel 2.9 + qtcurve = 0.68
intel fixed it in their main branch (proper fix), while the qtcurve mantainer
found a workaround and included it in qtcurve 0.69.

So to fix this we can:
1) backport the fix from intel
2) update qtcurve to 0.69
3) both 1 and 2

2009-10-11 Thread Giovanni Masucci
ok bug fixed in qtcurve 0.69 (this only happened with gtk2 applications,
like firefox)

here is the changelog:
It has been reported that under intel Xorg drivers 2.8, that QtCurve's arrows
are not appearing. This seems to be due to the fact that QtCurve is using cairo
to draw non-antialised lines in this case. To work-around this issue QtCurve
has been changed to use the older Gdk to draw arrows. To revert back to cairo,
use the following cmake option: -DQTC_USE_CAIRO_FOR_ARROWS=true

[Bug 337505] Re: Graphical corruption in some plasma applets after upgrade to Qt 4.5

2009-05-07 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Fixed for me with qt 4.5.1 on jaunty. Could qt 4.5.1 enter the proposed
repository to be even more tested and then enter jaunty main
repository? It's a bugfix release after all. It solves a lot of
graphical corruption problems that afflicted kde 4.2.x with 4.5.0, from
the cashew one to the window corruption happening with some windows
(like when using kmail). It also solves a nasty bug I had with menu
items in konqueror menu bar.

no 4.5.1 regressions so far, even for me. I know there was one regression, but
it has already been solved with

I guess karmick packages (and the backported packages I'm using) already have
that patch... :-)

[Bug 362968] [NEW] [kubuntu jaunty]kdenlive 0.7.3 should requires libmlt =0.3.8 but jaunty ships 0.3.4

2009-04-17 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libmlt1

Jaunty recently updated kdenlive to 0.7.3, which is a GOOD thing, since jaunty
also ships qt 4.5 that makes kdenlive = 0.7.2 crash in some situations.
Unfortunatly libmlt1 was not updated with kdenlive and kdenlive is heavily
linked to this library for video processing. Kdenlive developers raccomended to
use libmlt1 0.3.8 to avoid compatibility issues.
btw: Now In kdenlive first wizard the users meets a red alert icon and some
text telling him please upgrade to the latest version of mlt.

[Bug 361618] [NEW] [jaunty] eeepc 901/1000 touchpad behaving wrong

2009-04-15 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

eeepc 901/1000 touchpad has multitouch capabilities. They worked fine in
hardy/intrepid but in jaunty we have multitouch support plus a traditional
right side scrolling. Obviously having both of them together is not comfortable
at all.
There are also various problems with drag and drop with the cursor sliding

second problem is related to the first one...

[Bug 354059] [NEW] [jaunty] kickoff focus issue (4.2.2 regression)

2009-04-02 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

Since I've updated my kde to 4.2.2 (from 4.2.1) i have this new bug:
When I click on the K-menu, kickoff is not focused. This brings mainly 2 issues:
1) I can't close it except by clicking again on the k-menu icon
2) One very nice kickoff feature is that when you open it you are ready to
search for your programs in the search bar. You simply have to use the keyboard
and don't have to use the mouse. This is not true anymore, since the searchbar
is not focuses anymore

[Bug 345156] [NEW] qtcurve kde style does not honour single click setting

2009-03-18 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-style-qtcurve

When using kde style qtcurve in jaunty, some parts of my kde 4.2.1 desktop use
double click, while others behave fine and use the default single click.
An example of the wrong behaviour can be found in systemsettings: here to open
a module you have to double click on it.
Another example is the kde file dialog where files or folder have to be
double-clicked to be open.

[Bug 338205] Re: [jaunty] plasma crashes on start with SIGSEGV

2009-03-13 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Jonathan, kde 4.2.2 should make jaunty and give this fix for free...it should
come out on the first of april...
anyway I just want to add that this bug makes the jaunty alpha 6 livecd unfit
for an eeepc 901. Plasma always crashes on start. And I suspect that this may
be a problem of all eeepc series and also of other netbooks that have 1024x600
resolution. If this is the case than we have something pretty big that should
be marked critical as this means that the desktop will not work by default for
most netbook users...

mmm...I've just noticed that the fix is now also in kde 4.2 branch.
This means it will be in kde 4.2.2, which is scheduled to be out on the 1 of

Hopefully jaunty will ship with this version of kde and get this fix for free.
In this case there would be no need to backport.

[Bug 334142] [NEW] Kapman crashes with qt 4.5

2009-02-24 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kapman

Kapman crashes with qt 4.5 shortly after the game starts. It's not an ubuntu
bug, but since it's in our repository we should either fix it or consider
removing kapman from jaunty repositories, since as it is now it's totally
unusable and Joe user installing kapman to play a nice game would have a very
bad impression of the kubuntu experience.

[Bug 327183] Re: plasma notification applet displays duplicate notifications

2009-02-10 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Ok, the problem is absent from kde trunk (tried with latest project neon
build for intrepid). But no developer in upstream bug report say to have
fixed this. Given this, given the fact that everyone with this problem
is on kubuntu and given that in kubuntu 4.2 packages there are some
backport for the systemtray I'm even more confortable in thinking that
this is a kubuntu specific problem. It happens both in intrepid 4.2
packages and in jaunty.

[Bug 259181] Re: KDM background image not displayed correctly on low resolution display

2009-02-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Settings both width and height fixes the problem from me both on 16/9 and 4/3
pos anchor=c x=50% y=50% width=100% height=100%/
Of course in 4/3 the wallpaper looks stretched but:
- most mordern note/netbooks are widescreen
- the wallpaper is an abstract one so I think this doesn't look so bad
- The garbage on the sides of the screen that we have now is way worse.
- As a side note this solves another ugly issue: when going from kdm to the
splash screen with the default configuration the wallpaper is stretched and
destretched a few times. This doesn't happen with the fix above.
So, is it possible to make this change for jaunty and possibly push it upstream?

[Bug 327183] [NEW] plasma notification applet displays duplicate notifications

2009-02-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

When I start a new kde 4.2 session, notifications work fine. Then I hide an
applet from the system tray (like kbluetooth and kwallet systemtray icons)
using the new hiding system tray items feature of kde 4.2. After this I
get...double notifications from everything (take a look at the screenshot). I
tried to unhide the applets hoping to revolve this and thentriple
notifications!
In short: every time I move a system tray icon from visible to hidden or the
opposide I get one more
duplicate of notifications. Removing systemtray applet and re-adding it to the
panel, or doing a logout, fixes the issue until I hide again something in the
system tray...
I don't know if this is specific to ubuntu packages (didn't have this problem
with 4.2rc1 under opensuse), but in the original bug report every people with
this problem is using kubuntu.

[Bug 323908] Re: Okular crashes while starting the presentation mode

2009-02-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Hello,
I can confirm your bug (desktop effects ON, intel card) on intrepid with 4.2
packages.
Could you please try to REMOVE the costum okular rule in kwin settings?
To do so:
- Close okular
- Open System Settings
- Click on Window behaviour
- Click on Window-Specific
- You'll see a list: look for okular, select it, click on remove and then
Apply.
- Open okular and try again presentation mode
Is the crash fixed?

[Bug 327199] [NEW] (KDE) Fullscreen applications flickering with effects ON

2009-02-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kwin

Desktop effects are ON by default in kde4 since 4.2 and in kubuntu since
intrepid with kde 4.1.
This means that they have to work with the rest of the desktop, without giving,
too many headaches, at least on supported cards. This is IMHO not the case
(yet).
The issue I'll mention here happens with EVERY APPLICATION in fullscreen mode,
under kde4 (for example gwenview presentation mode, konqueror fullscreen mode
and so on) Basically, when using a fullscreen app, the screen flickers as a mad
and makes the experience really unpolished and bad. In some cases, with some
video cards (like my intel gma 950), this brings to crashes (okular
presentation mode).
Basically, kwin unredirects fullscreen windows to improve the performance, but
the side effects of this are way bigger than benefits.
How to resolve the problem:

- open with your favourite editor this configuration file:
.kde/share/config/kwinrc

-under [Compositing] section add:
UnredirectFullscreen=false

- If you have no [Compositing] section create it, on the top of the
config file, and then add the option under it.

- save and exit

- Press ALT+F2 to open krunner, then write into it:
kwin --replace

- No flickering/crashes anymore! ;)

I think this should go in jaunty as default!

[Bug 292098] Re: okular can't presentation fullscreen

2009-02-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
This costum okular window rule on some configurations makes the app crash. This
can lead to data loss (okular bookmarks, highlighting and so on). Because of
this I propose to raise the priority from low to medium
See here for details:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdegraphics/+bug/323908
(Note that disabling unredirect fullscreen windows in kwin config file fixes
this crash, just like deleting the okular kwin rule, but it doesn't fix the
presentation problem, so deleting okular kwin rule is still necessary)

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-09 Thread Giovanni Masucci
From what I've understood we need a vanilla tar.gz from ralink and the
separate patches used by Eric to consider official inclusion in Intrepid, am I
correct?
So here's a clean Ralink tar.gz. Note that this version is from 15/07 and
already has the patch to have both WEP and WPA (Thanks Adam!).
http://www.itwriting.com/DPO_RT28xx_60_LinuxSTA_V1.7.0.0_2008_07_15.tgz
It should already have the EEEPC_SPECIAL_SETTING option set, so we just need
to add Eric's patches and we are set with these drivers. =)

I entered in the SOURCES folder, unzipped the drivers and applied mandriva's

[Bug 267768] Re: Can't turn off/on bluetooth via acpi in eeepc 901/1000

2008-09-08 Thread Giovanni Masucci
I forgot to say that this bug is also present in intrepid kernel 2.6.27, that
from what I've understood, doesn't use eeepc-acpi.ko, but eeepc-laptop.ko
OT:
I don't know if there's much difference between the two, I only know that
eeepc-acpi seems to work much better than eepc-laptop on my eeepc 901.
With eeepc-laptop osd are very laggy and I also can't control webcam via acpi.
So it would seem that the best solution is to patch eeepc-osd for bluetooth and
include it in the kernel instead of eeepc-laptop, but I'm no expert to take
such decision.

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-08 Thread Giovanni Masucci
I'm sorry to have given the impression to being looking for help, using this
bug report as a forum support thread... I was rather trying to be helpful
reporting my experience. Let me just add that the drivers work if I boot
intrepid with 2.6.24 hardy kernel...of course I'm using the same configuration.
This makes me think that something is wrong at kernel level or that there are
still some problems with those drivers and 2.6.27 but maybe I'm wrong. Hope
other testers are luckier than me and that this is really a problem of my
configuration.
Have a nice day.
Giovanni

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-08 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Finally, wireless works. I've built the kernel driver from Eric Anholt (the
xorg developer) git repository.
I don't know what patches he applied, we should ask him!
No problem so far...network manager works ok, even with wpa.
You can test it by doing:
sudo apt-get install git-core
git clone git://git.anholt.net/git/rt2860
cd rt2860/
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe rt2860sta

and here's a link to Eric's blog, in case someone has questions.

http://anholt.livejournal.com/39165.html?view=110589#t110589

Hope it helps...

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-07 Thread Giovanni Masucci
it seems mandriva resolved this problem:
* Sat Aug 30 2008 Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski [EMAIL PROTECTED]
1.7.0.0-2mdv2009.0
  + Revision: 277121
  - Add patch to allow build with kernel 2.6.27
ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandriva/devel/cooker/sparcv9//media/contrib/release/dkms-rt2860-1.7.0.0-2mdv2009.0.noarch.rpm
It would be really cool if intrepid would support these drivers out of the box,
since they are needed by a lot of user. Especially on new netbooks, like the
EEEPC 901/1000, which need that driver to have wifi working.

xv works for me, with video overlay and textured video (textured video is

Video overlay is efficient and fast as with xaa.

system.

[Bug 177492] Re: EXA is balls-achingly slow

2008-02-04 Thread Giovanni Masucci
here's what I made:

Option AccelMethod exa
Option MigrationHeuristic greedy
Option ExaNoComposite true

In hardy with these options in xorg.conf with an intel i945 card, I get
a system that is about as fast as with xaa. So why should exa be
disabled?

I've also added this:
INTEL_BATCH=1
in /etc/environment

Even scrolling in firefox works great!
That's wonderful!! :))
Try it out! Maybe we can still have exa+intel in hardy!

PS: now that exa works for me I'd like to try textured video, which is disabled
by ubuntu in hardy...

Having it with both compiz enabled and disabled...so I guess it's not a compiz

[Bug 140026] impossible to set the correct resolution with dual monitor (intel card)

2007-09-16 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

Hello to everyone, this is my first bug report and I'm just an user
willing to help, not a programmer, so forgive me if there's something
wrong with my report. Also please forgive my not so perfect english.

I'm testing Ubuntu Gutsy.
I have and intel gma950 card and two LCD displays. The first one ( the main
one, the notebook display) is 1280x800. The second one is 1360x768.
The problem is that, if I link them with VGA, they both go at 1360x768, so in
the first display the image is cutted on the right part.
So I tried to use displayconfig-gtk to solve this and set the second display as
a mirror of the first at the correct resolution, but it doesn't work at all:
- screen1 is set at 1366x768 and as default...I don't know if this is correct.
I think default should be the notebook at 1280x800, not the external display
connected with a vga cable. So I set this as secondary mirror display.
- screen 2 is disabled. I enable it as default and set at 1280x800. Under
model i choose LCD Panel 1280x800. Now something very bad happens: even if
under model I have 1280x800, under resolution I dont get that, but only
640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024 and so on! But the worst part
is that, no matter what I choose, the resolution of screen 1, which was ok
before, is changed to 640x480. What a mess! :)
This happens both using i810 and intel drivers.
The problem happens even if I set screen1 as default and screen2 as secondary.
So in gutsy, right now, there's no way I can set my second monitor correctly.

[Bug 140028] Right click makes the menu appear and disappear in an istant

This only happens when watching movies. When I start totem everything is
correct.
When the movie starts i have to keep the right mouse button pressed to have the

I think I've found something more. The problem appears to be caused by
totem visual effects, enabled by default when you play music. Disabling
them from totem preferences makes the music playable again.

[Bug 140030] totem has a memory leak that crash the system (gutsy)

2007-09-16 Thread Giovanni Masucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

With my intel card totem (with gstreamer) takes all the memory of the system if
i play a music file (mp3, ogg etc.).
In a second the system become too slow to respond and the only solution is
reboot. The only way to stop this is to kill totem before it's too late. Videos
work ok.
This happens with ubuntu Gutsy. Feisty was ok.
Tested with i810 drivers, with and without desktop effects (compiz).
