[Bug 1312811] [NEW] A program can start with it's title bar hidden behind the top bar

2014-04-25 Thread Glome
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS at least LibreOffice Writer and Gimp can start with
their title bars hidden behind the top bar.

See attached screenshots.

Since the title bar is out of reach it's not obvious how to drag the
window down if one does not know that you can alt drag windows to move
them.

[Bug 998198] [NEW] New window option in Gedit quick list opens a window with two tabs if a Gedit window is already open

2012-05-11 Thread Glome
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
- About Ubuntu

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

3.4.1-0ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen

When selecting the new window option from Gedit quick list a window with
ONE tab should be opened.

4) What happened instead

When selecting the new window option from the Gedit quick list a new
window with TWO tabs is opened. This happens only when one or more Gedit
windows is already open. If the option is used when no Gedit windows are
open the new window has only one tab.

[Bug 992639] Re: Nokia CS-15 Internet Stick (3G modem) does nothing (regression)

2012-05-07 Thread Glome
After browsing some forums it seems that 12.04 also breaks Nokia CS-17
and perhaps many others.

I also found a work around for this bug:

Open file: “/lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules”

Find lines:

# Nokia CS-15
ATTRS{idVendor}==0421, ATTRS{idProduct}==0610, RUN+=usb_modeswitch
'%b/%k'

Comment the second line out by placing # -character in front of it and
save the file.

Plug in the Internet stick and type eject /dev/sr1 to the console (or
eject /dev/sr0 if the computer has no CD-drive).

[Bug 992639] [NEW] Nokia CS-15 Internet Stick (3G modem) does nothing (regression)

2012-05-01 Thread Glome
Public bug reported:

When Nokia Mobile Phones CS-15 (Internet Stick 3G modem) is plugged in
a usb port nothing happens. No pin code is asked. Not even the light in
the stick turns on.

lsusb list the device as:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0421:0610 Nokia Mobile Phones CS-15 (Internet Stick 3G
modem)

Tested wth Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
It worked fine with Ubuntu 11.10 so this is a regression.

[Bug 825777] Re: Display will not turn on in Oneiric with Llano APUs

2011-10-21 Thread Glome
My workaround was to first install Ubuntu 11.04, install the proprietary driver
and then upgrade to 11.10.
This way 11.10 never needs to be booted without the working driver.

[Bug 875784] Re: Titlebar buttons of non-maximized windows do not have hover effect

2011-10-18 Thread Glome
After a bit more investigation, it seems that it's the whole titlebar
that does not refresh, not only the buttons. So if I switch tabs in
FireFox the title does not update.

Also at random the titlebar of a window might suddenly start working
(refreshing). I'm not sure what triggers it, but when a titlebar starts
working it continues to do so until the window is closed.

I also tried Unity 2D and it does not have this bug.

[Bug 825777] Re: Display will not turn on in Oneiric alpha builds

2011-09-14 Thread Glome
I can confirm this bug with Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 on HP dv6-6145eo
CPU: AMD A6 3410MX
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6755G2 (HD 6520G and HD 6750M hybrid crossfire)

During the boot only black screen is shown (not even the back light is
on). I can still hear the login sound so it's only the screen that is
not working.

Ubuntu 11.04 works fine.

[Bug 661394] Re: Compal/nvidia breakage in system76 laptops

2011-02-05 Thread Glome
Just tested OpenSUSE 11.3 and it does not have this bug.
Since Fedora 14 does not have this bug either it seems that this is Ubuntu only
bug.
This is weird since both Fedora 14 and OpenSUSE 11.3 use kernel newer than
2.6.32 which is the last that works with Ubuntu.

[Bug 661248] Re: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT doesn't work with nvidia-current 260

2010-10-15 Thread Glome
I can confirm this bug.

I have GeForce 8600m GT on Acer ASPIRE 5920G laptop and have the
identical problem. (low resolution with nouveau, black screen with
nvidia-173 and only command line with nvidia-current (260)).

The same laptop with the same card works perfectly with Lucid using
nvidia-current (195?) driver.

[Bug 467223] Re: Unable to stop drive

2010-09-08 Thread Glome
is this problem present with the latest updated Karmic's or Lucid's
packages?

I don't know about Lucid, but it is still present with the Karmic.

I want add that this only happens with the Maxtor drive. I also have 1TB
Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive and it works just fine.

[Bug 467223] Re: Unable to stop drive

2010-09-08 Thread Glome
I just tested this with Maverick (10.10) beta and the bug is still
present.

When selecting Safely Remove Drive for the Maxtor drive I get a dialog
with an error message:

Error Detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb
USB device: /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.7/usb2/2-2)
SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: OK
STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory

The Iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive still works fine so the problem
only exists with the Maxtor drive.

2009-10-31 Thread Glome
Public bug reported:

When trying to safely remove Maxtor Basics 500 GB USB hard drive by
selecting Safely remove drive from it's desktop icon's right click
menu an error message is shown:

Unable to stop drive

Error detaching: helper exited with

Error STOP UNIT for /dev/sdc: Success

Selecting Unmount instead gives no error messages.

Using Ubuntu 9.10

Just want to add that the same Safely remove drive option works just
fine for Kingston 4 GB USB memory stick and Verbatim 1 GB USB memory
stick and gives no errors with them.

[Bug 386037] Re: Nautilus gives no error message if an application fails to start

2009-06-12 Thread Glome
 Is this reproducible?

Yes it is.

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

1. Take an application. Any application will do. Compile a simple Hello
World- example if you don't have any.
2. Do something to make the application not to run. Such as remove its
execution permissions or remove a package it depend on.
3. Double click the application on Nautilus in order to run it - No error
message is given!
4 Try to run the same application from the Terminal and a proper error message
is given.

To fix this bug simply make Nautilus show error messages like the
Terminal does.

[Bug 386037] Re: Nautilus gives no error message if an application fails to start

2009-06-12 Thread Glome
did you create a launcher or just run the binary directly?

I tried just to run the binary directly.

Trying again, this time with the latest version of Ubuntu (9.04), it
seems that in the case of missing execute permission it does indeed show
an error message, but not on the two other cases I tested (missing
shared library and segfault).

[Bug 386037] [NEW] Nautilus gives no error message if an application fails to start

2009-06-11 Thread Glome
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If I try to run an application by double clicking it in Nautilus and the
application for some reason fails to start I get no error message. If I
try to run the same application in the Terminal, I always get an error
message such as Segmentation fault (core dumped), error while loading
shared libraries: xx.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory or ./a.out: Permission denied. Without an error
message it is impossible to tell what went wrong and if the application
did something or not. Nautilus should show the error messages too. Even
better it should give a solution to the problem such as offering to
install a missing package or asking if the user want's to give the file
execute permission.

[Bug 386037] Re: Nautilus gives no error message if an application fails to start

2009-06-11 Thread Glome
There is no crash report because nothing has crashed. This bug report
simply reports that Nautilus does not give informative error messages
like the Terminal does.
