[Bug 270596] [NEW] wireless lan does not automatically start when wired connection is dropped

2008-09-15 Thread Gnine
Public bug reported:

kernel 2.6.27-3 x64 8.10
mt-3422 laptop using rtl8180 wifi driver

1. boot up connected to LAN leaving wireless device off.
2. after logged in, unplug LAN wire. connection lost. all good.
3. alt+F2 (turns on wireless device)
network manager does not initialize wifi. no wireless network detected. no
network discovery.
4. left click network manager icon. select 'connect to other wireless network'
then choose "yournetworkname" from dropped down menu, applet shows info
(however, hex key is not being saved by applet (that's another bug)) connect
button grayed out.
expected: wireless connection should have been established with preferred wlan
after wired LAN was lost.

tried logging off and back in (no LAN and wireless device ON). no
results. then tried restarting the computer with no LAN and wireless
device ON. success. (however, i also noticed the verbose shutdown
stated wlan0 was being deactivated, even thought it acted as if it was
off the whole time)

[Bug 240331] [NEW] flickering artifacts on screen

2008-06-16 Thread Gnine
Public bug reported:

8.04 kernel 2.6.24.18-generic gnome 2.22.2 x86
unknown cause. with or without compiz running. sometimes restarting X
momentarily fixes the issue but bug still remains. only about 20% of the screen
is affected by this; some sort of mirroring of the area+flickering. also
noticed that using system>preferences>Screen Resolution tool while the
flickering is active greatly aggravates the issue, rendering the session
unusable.
no crash report detected nor auto generated. this was first spotted on 6/16/08

i386 is doomed alright. but weirdly (and thankfully perhaps), update-
manager crashed before changing the system to current broken state (on
64bit). so i'm still running kernel 2.6.24-7 and everything with it is
still fine.

[Bug 131679] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV when attempting to unlock screen

2008-02-04 Thread Gnine
i have experienced this bug on both x86 and x86_64 8.04 hardy versions on
random events while running a number of programs.
even though 32bit version seems to be more unstable about it.
resuming from screensaver (password protect on) does not seem to be exclusively
affected in my case. i have refrained from submitting duplicate bugs reports on
this issue, but i will try to provide further information as it occurs next
time.

entry in /etc/hostname does not match entry in /etc/hosts for "host"
sudo won't allow me to gedit either of these files from terminal because
it is "unable to resolve host (...)"

[Bug 179242] $sudo apt-get install -f returns "sudo: unable to resolve host (...)"

2007-12-29 Thread Gnine
Public bug reported:

ubuntu hardy heron 8.04
update-manager, add/remove, synaptic and firestarter firewall do not run/crash
on startup.
tried $ sudo apt-get install -f , command returns "sudo: unable to resolve host
[hostname]"

also, update-manager appears as active icon in panel, on double-click,
process fetches updates list but recommends "partial upgrade to install
as many updates as possible", then crashes. ignoring that and choosing
to install all updates crashes as well. force quit not possible.
