[Bug 67163] Re: Update-manager cannot update my Dapper install to Egdy

I have the same problem and I had installed beryl/AIGLX (but I reverted
my /etc/X11/xorg.conf to original setting since I thought beryl was a
little unstable to my taste).

[Bug 411944] [NEW] cannot use partition formated in ext3 during instalation

2009-08-11 Thread Aravind Gopal
Public bug reported:

while instaling ubuntu 9.04 64bit in my 780g chipset amd machine,
one of my partition formated in ext3 which i want to use as i use partitions in
windows.
partitioning software in ubuntu installer forced me to mount it for
partitioning in ext3.
as i don't want to mount as specified mounts such 'home', 'user' , etc. i gave
another name 'back up'.
but after installation i cant open/use it from ubuntu or windows (as it is
formated in ext3).

my intention was to back up the database folder (mysql/postgresql) to
the known/non predefined location, and then back up to some other
location. why linux cannot give options like the download folder in
firefox or my documents folder in open office setting to use partitions
instead of pre defined mount points to all. for eg . why user cannot be
able to set the 'home folder' be a folder 'home folder' named in D or E
or F or etc. drive/partition. Not needed for all existing mounts.

Re: [Bug 411944] Re: cannot use partition formated in ext3 during instalation

2009-08-26 Thread Aravind Gopal
in windows partitions (which is flexible) i can create partition in
any name and can be monitored or analysed for usage or
representation/navigation style is also more user friendly.

friend the above one is a problem but my real problem is that during
the installation of ubuntu 9.04 i partitioned and formated nearly
onethird of the hdd capacity in ext3 file system and the mount point
was given(typed, as it wasn't in the list) as 'backup'. I created one
partition as 'User' and another one as 'Home' . apart from root and
swap.
in my system winxp is loaded in the primary partition c:. d and e are
ntfs and fat32 formated partitions.
after installation of Ubuntu , i can see but cannot use the partition
'backup'. as it is in ext3 it cannot be used from win xp either.
more over it would be useful if some tips were shown about mount
points during partitioning. such as if u create a separate home
partition ur data will not be lost if u reload/reinstall Linux again,
etc, etc.
i like free areas like in win xp.

Re: [Bug 411944] Re: cannot use partition formated in ext3 during instalation

2009-08-26 Thread Aravind Gopal
dear friend,
what u answered is only a minor part of my problem.
friend please understand my real problem - ** during
the installation of ubuntu 9.04 i partitioned and formatted nearly
one-third of the hdd capacity in ext3 file system and the mount point
was given(typed, as it wasn't in the list) as 'backup'. I created one

#after installation of Ubuntu , i can see but cannot use the partition
'backup'. as it is in ext3 it cannot be used from win xp either.
if cannot be used during installation ubuntu should not allow to
create/type in new mount points.
please reply, i dont know how to use that major partition, do i need
to install ubuntu again and re partition it. also i think one cannot
format a partition in ext3/4 without a pre-determined mount
point.#
