[Bug 990862] Re: opengl ceased to work properly since upgrade to 12.04

2012-05-21 Thread GreatBunzinni
I've just updated the kernel and installed NVidia's proprietary drivers
(post-release update) made available through the additional drivers
app, and it appears that OpenGL is once again working as expected.

I don't know exactly what did it, as I've already tried the post-release
update drivers before and that didn't panned out, but I'm glad
everything is back to normal.

Thanks for the help,

[Bug 990862] [NEW] opengl ceased to work properly since upgrade to 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

I've just upgraded to Kubuntu 12.04 and I've noticed that an opengl
application I'm developing failed to work. Among the problems,
rendering has since become terribly slow, even with nvidia proprietary
drivers, and the opengl rendering screen sometimes turns black.

As a test, I've turned on KDE's desktop effects. Once I did that and
restarted KDE, the desktop became excruciatingly slow and the desktop's
background became black.

This leads me to suspect that something with opengl isn't working since
the upgrade, and this is a bit of a showstopper.

[Bug 879173] [NEW] Wifi connection dies with CPU high load

2011-10-20 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

I've noticed that, when I run some application which is CPU-intensive
such as compiling and doing some number crunching, the wifi connection
just dies out and stays dead as long as the CPU load is high. Once the
CPU load dies down, the network manager suddenly is able to re-establish
the connection. This happens both when a single CPU core is taxed or
when I run multiple demanding processes.

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10, but this problem was already present in
previous Ubuntu releases.

The expected behaviour would be that the wifi connection didn't died
when the CPU got taxed.

[Bug 757720] Re: ubi-partman crashes with exit code 141 during live install

2011-08-31 Thread GreatBunzinni
I can't speak for everyone, but I suspect that my problem was caused by
bad RAM, which also caused a set of other unrelated problems. I won't
test it if that's the cause, because I don't have the time or the
resources to run the install processes on two different distributions.
Yet, maybe some other user who also experienced this problem can test
this.

Nevertheless, there is a problem with ubi-partman, specificallly it's
cryptic error codes which don't say anything at all. it would be nice
if some work was invested in it so that a user could have a clue
regarding what went wrong with their installation.

[Bug 508875] Re: [needs-packaging] OpenSCAD package

2011-07-25 Thread GreatBunzinni
It would be great if ubuntu supported this project. Currently, it
appears that the only way to install it in kubuntu is either by
compiling it from source or to install it through an unknown ppa, and it
would be much better if Ubuntu offered it in the distro's repositories.
Adding to this, the current picking of CAD software is, to put it
mildly, poor, and a better alternative (or at least a little
competition) would benefit Ubuntu's users.

[Bug 807260] [NEW] Ubuntu lacks support for ACPI in Acer Extensa 5620z

2011-07-07 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

After long months of having my acer extensa 5620z laptop constantly
running at terribly high temperatures (acpi -t pointing around 80ºC for
both cores), which led the monitor lid to crack near the heatsink, I've
decided to spend a bit of digging on how to improve cooling. To put a
long story short, I've added acpi_osi=\Linux\ to /boot/grub/grub.cfg
by adding acpi_osi=\\\Linux\\\ to /etc/default/grub followed by
running sudo update-grub2 and now, with this change,, the very same
laptop only goes 70ºC on demanding loads.

[Bug 785402] [NEW] Offer a reinstall GRUB option on the installation ISOs

2011-05-19 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Some users are using Ubuntu/Kubuntu on multiboot systems along with some
flavour of Windows. One problem with Windows is that when it is
reinstalled, it hijacks the boot process. This forces any linux user to
reinstall GRUB just to be able to use any OS besides Microsoft's.

As this is a major problem which linux users are forced to endure, they
tend to rely on Ubuntu's installation media to try to fix this problem.
The thing is, Ubuntu's installation media lacks a reinstall GRUB
option, which then forces ubuntu users to either jump through hoops to
retake their computer or, worse yet, force a reinstallation from
scratch.

It would be nice if Ubuntu/Kubuntu's ISOs all offered a reinstall GRUB
option.

Kubuntu, with KDE 4.6.2.

Could this be caused by a missing package related to the DE?

[Bug 678139] Re: Let users disable wireless network interfaces

2010-11-29 Thread GreatBunzinni
I see what you mean but I really don't believe that this is really a
bug. You have network manager automaticallyl ignoring the user's wishes
and forcing him to use a network connection which he wishes to avoid. I
don't know if this is the case but if network manager suddenly opted to
connect through a mobile network connection then that could lead network
manager to force the user to incur in needless spending. So, besides
being a nuisance it can possibly be a source of needless expenses.

[Bug 678139] [NEW] Let users disable wireless network interfaces

2010-11-21 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-networkmanagement

If a user happens to have multiple wireless network interfaces connected
to the same system (i.e., has a wifi PCI card and connects a USB wifi
dongle or a mobile broadband dongle), the network manager application
automatically selects the best connection which is available in this
system. Yet, it is impossible to turn off a specific network interface
or even select which interface should be the one performing the
connection. That means that users who may wish to disable a particular
network interface to avoid connecting through them or even if they
simply wish to test the connection through a particular user interface,
they will have network manager forcing some other network connection on
them, actively undermining the user's actions. That turns a simple user
task into a hugely frustrating event.

It would be great if network manager enabled the user to manually select
which network interface to use and which to avoid, no matter what's the
best network connection available at that particular instance.

[Bug 666881] [NEW] The SuperLU package must be updated

2010-10-26 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu's current SuperLU package lists as being:

Version: 3.0+20070106-3

That means that it's a version which is almost 4 years old. Meanwhile,

So, how about providing a more up-to-date version of this package?

[Bug 603936] Re: Firefox crashes when opening some websites (namely sapo.pt)

2010-07-12 Thread GreatBunzinni
I don't believe that it is a good idea to mark this bug as invalid.
This problem was caused by a bug in the 10.04 install/update process,
which made it possible for an invalid package to remain installed which
had quite a few nasty consequences. It may not be a firefox bug but
it's still a bug nonetheless.

Nice. I've disabled libflash-mozplugin and firefox didn't crashed. It
appears that it was a leftover package and it stirred up some trouble.
Once I've uninstalled it and reinstalled flashplugin-installer it

[Bug 603936] Re: firefox crashes when opening websites

2010-07-10 Thread GreatBunzinni
I've created a clean profile and tested firefox with www.sapo.pt. Once
again, it crashes. This time I wasn't able to provide a backtrace as
running firefox through the firefox -ProfileManager --debug command
opens ddd instead gdb.

[Bug 14335] Re: nautilus wants to execute all text files on vfat and ntfs drives

2010-05-16 Thread GreatBunzinni
I don't believe this problem is a Nautilus bug. The exec permissions
are the same to Nautilus as they are to other file managers such as
KDE's Dolphin. Moreover, this very same problem also affects any shell.

So, to put it in other words, the problem behind this is the poor choice
for the default traditional UNIX permissions that are attributed to FAT
(and maybe other) file systems which don't support traditional UNIX
permissions. From there, File managers and the like are dragged down by
this bug.

[Bug 581128] [NEW] Error connecting to /dev/dsp

2010-05-15 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lingot

I have an Acer Extensa 5620z which is running Ubuntu 10.04. When I run
lingot I get an error message informing me that it's unable to open
audio device /dev/dsp and refuses to run. After upgrading lingot from
0.7.4-2 to 0.8.1 (downloaded from the project site and compiled from
source) I get the exact same error whether I choose ALSA, OSS or Jack.

Meanwhile, Lingot 0.8.1 runs perfectly well on a Kubuntu desktop still
running Kubuntu 9.10.

[Bug 483257] [NEW] Adding bookmarks through the keyboard shortcut doesn't add visual markers to the progress bar

2009-11-15 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

I've added a keyboard shortcut for the Bookmark this location command
and when I repeatedly tested that shortcut no visual marker (the little
green flags) was added to the track progress bar. Yet, when I clicked on
the edit bookmarks button (the little yellow star) I was presented with
a long list of newly added entries, all labelled default layout.

It would be great if the bookmark this location keyboard shortcut
could be used to add functional bookmarks to the track.

I've just noticed that this bug entry was added to Ubuntu's launchpad,

[Bug 468627] [NEW] libumfpack doesn't pack any header files

2009-10-09 Thread GreatBunzinni
Hi, sorry for the reply delay. I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 and this behaviour
is present in Firefox/Shiretoko 3.5.3. The re-launching problem occurs
even after a considerable amount of time passes since first quitting
firefox, even after passing over 10 minutes.

On a side note, I suspect it may have some relation with the flash
plugin, as it's also responsible for hanging firefox under some
circumstances .

2009-05-20 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Firefox, when launched from a command line interface and when quitting
the app, produces a long list of complains about memory leak problems.
To make matters worse, usually when I try to again launch firefox a
dialog window appears informing me that that isn't possible due to a
firefox instance being already running.

2009-04-29 Thread GreatBunzinni
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 316889 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316889

Steve, if you don't have any constructive comment to add then consider
not posting at all.

Having said that, jaunty desperately needs an Amarok 1 package. Amarok 1
is usable while amarok 2 isn't. It lacks features, it's UI is a mess and
it makes everything harder to accomplish while in amarok 1 everything
was a breeze. The apt family of tools already support installing
specific versions of a certain software tool. Please don't treat
(k)ubuntu users as beta testers and make it possible for them to easily
use the best software around instead of mindlessly forcing the cutting
edge even when it means an absurd amount of steps backwards.

[Bug 318449] [NEW] boost serialization library throws compiler error

2009-01-18 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libboost-serialization1.35-dev

It appears that the libbost-serialization headers throw a compiler error
and fail to compile. GCC 4.3.2 throws the following error message when
trying to compile any code that includes the boost serialization header:

r...@kubuntu:test2$ g++ test.cc
In file included from test.cc:2:
/usr/include/boost/serialization/list.hpp:75: error: redefinition of ‘struct
boost::serialization::implementation_levelstd::listlong int,
std::allocatorlong int  ’
/usr/include/boost/serialization/list.hpp:75: error: previous definition of
‘struct boost::serialization::implementation_levelstd::listlong int,

/usr/include/boost/serialization/list.hpp:75: error: redefinition of ‘struct

std::allocatorlong unsigned int  ’
/usr/include/boost/serialization/list.hpp:75: error: previous definition of
‘struct boost::serialization::implementation_levelstd::listlong unsigned int,

[Bug 300875] Re: Compilation on g++ at the library Iostream.h

2009-01-18 Thread GreatBunzinni
It is not a bug. It's a compiler error due to badly written code. You
need to know that iostream is a standard header and therefore is located
in the standard compiler include path and that cout is included in the
std namespace.

Why not try to learn the fundamentals before claiming a compiler error
is a bug?

[Bug 211089] [NEW] kernel update left Ubuntu without restricted drivers

2008-04-02 Thread GreatBunzinni
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 211066 ***

Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 beta and my system sports an NVidia card and an
atheros wireless card. After receiving a notice that there was a linux
kernel update available in the repositories and running that update,
after rebooting the system I was left without any restricted drivers
installed. That meant that I didn't had any graphics driver and no
internet access. To make matters worse, the Hardware Drivers
application stated that there wasn't any hardware present that needed
drivers. So in the end that little kernel update forced me to perform a
complete reinstall.

[Bug 154943] Re: sound volume keyboard shortcut keys don't change sound volume

2008-04-01 Thread GreatBunzinni
This bug still persists in Kubuntu 8.04 beta. On the other hand, it
isn't present in Ubuntu 8.04 beta.

[Bug 193483] Re: upgrade to KDE 3.5.9: KDE applications hang when USB mass storage device is plugged in. Drive isn't auto-mounted

2008-03-30 Thread GreatBunzinni
I've installed the current beta release of Ubuntu 8.04 and the same USB
mass storage device worked like a champ. Then I did a clean install of
Kubuntu 8.04 and the exact same problem still persists.

[Bug 157094] Re: USB mass storage devices are mounted with unsafe permissions

2008-03-30 Thread GreatBunzinni
This issue keeps on getting stranger, now that I noticed that ubuntu,
through GNOME (which is known for it's very restricted configurability),
offers the ability to not only setup the removable drive permissions but
also all mount options, all that through a GUI application.

So, what gives?
