[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
@ C Jenkins There have been three updates to the gvfs packages in Raring this week. We cannot know if this issue is being directly addressed or it is just natural trickle down. The bug remains unassigned so the obvious conclusion is that the updates are coming from upstream somewhere. We all agree this is a very serious issue, and it needs to be fixed in older versions as well. If no one is fixing Quantal then all we can do is push on to Raring and hope. My Raring Gnome Shell is now stable although the updates keep coming and the release is now only a few weeks away. Finally, for me - but apparently not everyone, the issue is fixed in Raring with the caveat that I run Gnome Shell not Unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
@Gustavo The only other thing I can think of is that I do have all of quantal-proposed installed. Plus my system is not your system, so just because mine works with my NAS does not mean it will work for everybody. We really need proper developers to fix this issue. The best I can say is that for my hardware and my network and my NAS, mine seems to be operating as it should with updated Quantal (proposed) and the latest updated Raring snapshot. There may well be other libs that are part of the overall issue, not just gvfs and Samba.

Ubuntu is not really Debian based, most Raring packages are way ahead of even Debian Experimental. Ubuntu uses deb packaging and the basic Debian system layout but has long since ceased to be just a repackaged Debian. I am currently installing Squeeze and will upgrade to Sid. I will test and report back. This bug is enough to turn me into a KDE user. Having said that on my main machine which was Ubuntu Gnome Remix 12.10 , upgraded to Raring and the Gnome PPA added then all updated to running Gnome 3.7.91 (3.8 beta) manages to be free of this bug. On my second machine Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 daily will not install properly with a UEFI install and as I reported above an Xubuntu raring still has this bug, even with Gnome PPA added. The Debian install will not answer too many questions. It will probably work as Debian is still on Gnome 3.4. The bug may be lurking upstream waiting to float down and stuff everyone up.

Debian Sid is also free of this bug, but is way behind and still on Gnome 3.4. My number two machine is working well with Samba and I am going to leave it on Debian. [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
@AndreK I am beginning to think there is no solution for Unity users. The only two approaches that work at the moment are 1. to use Kubuntu and use eg Amarok for music or 2. upgrade a 12.10 Gnome Remix to 13.04 and add the Gnome PPA and then upgrade the lot to Gnome Shell 3.8. I am happily using Gnome Shell 3.8 and I just dumped 50gb of mp3s accross my network to make sure it truly works. And it does. Unfortunately I am not in a position to try Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 as the latest snapshot will not install on my machine and I do not think running it in a VM is a real test (maybe it is - worth a try for someone).

As others have said this bug does not affect Kubuntu and Dolphin, and you can use Dolphin on Gnome Shell or Xfce and it works as expected. [Bug 401382] [NEW] sun-java-plugin firefox 3.0 unnecessary dependency
Public bug reported: It is impossible to install sun-java6-plugin without Firefox 3.0. For users of Firefox 3.5 and all other browsers it means you cannot remove Firefox 3.0 and have a working java plugin. I am using the AMD64 version. The OpenJDK/IceTea version plugin does not work with Firefox 3.5 under AMD64. ** Affects: sun-java6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sun-java-plugin firefox 3.0 unnecessary dependency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 274428] Re: Network Manager set DNS wrong for GSM network
Until today (3/3/09) I was using Intrepid. I plug in my Huawei E169 and it happily connects and changes to the appropriate DNS for my 3G provider. In Intrepid I had updates, proposed and backports enabled. Now I have upgraded to Jaunty and the DNS settings are not updated when I insert the E169, it is still using the DNS from the ethernet connection - now unplugged. I had to go into the settings of the Mobile Broadband connection and edit the config and add the correct DNS addresses. It now works fine and survives reboots. This appears to match the above bug. I had no issue in Intrepid, but the bug has reappeared in Jaunty. I have replicated this issue on another laptop that I upgraded to Jaunty and then reverted to Intrepid for other reasons. thanks -- Network Manager set DNS wrong for GSM network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 288942] Re: clamd daemon fails to load
Stephan, I reinstalled as per instructions (also removing the previous fix of using apparmor complain) and it does function correctly. thank you Greg ps I was only loading clamd directly looking for errors Stefan Lesicnik wrote: Hi, I believe the fix for this is the addition of #include abstractions/nameservice in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.clamd. To test this: - start from a clean base apt-get purge clamav clamav-base clamav-daemon rm -rf /var/lib/clamav - install clamav apt-get install clamav-daemon check clamd is running (ps -afx or the like) process should be: /usr/sbin/clamd Modify clamd to use TCP 3310 and bind to localhost Add TCPAddr localhost TCPSocket 3310 to /etc/clamav/clamd.conf - Restart clamd /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon restart This should segfault now due to the apparmor profile denying access to tcp network related files (hosts, nsswitch resolve.conf etc) To resolve this Add #include abstractions/nameservice to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.clamd - Reload apparmor /etc/init.d/apparmor reload - Restart clamd /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon restart - This should now start correctly. clamdrib should also work correctly. aside Please correct me if I am wrong, but decided 'capability setuid' in this case is not required as clamdscan has the ability to call a file to scan with the - option. ie. clamdscan - filename. which should run it in as the current user, which i suspect clamdrib is doing therefore shouldnt be necessary to setuid. /aside Greg - please note that calling clamd or sudo clamd as per your original post is the incorrect way to start the daemon, as it should be started as root via the init script (/etc/init.d/clamav-daemon) which will result in the application dropping privileges to the clamav user. You should be doing clamd --config-file=/etc/clamav/clamd.conf -- === Greg Eden [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- clamd daemon fails to load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288942 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288942 Scott, Thank you for your help, the aa-complain works fine. I will await a solution. [Bug 288942] [NEW] clamd daemon fails to load
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: clamav-daemon I have a clean install of Intrepid beta updates to latest packages as of October 24th. Re: [Bug 288942] Re: clamd daemon fails to load
Scott, You are correct. The moment I stopped Apparmor the daemon loaded and clamdrib now works. I reloaded apparmor and it continues to work, I am thinking load order is an issue. I will try a reboot. thanks Greg Scott Kitterman wrote: In Ubuntu we have an Apparmor profile for Clamav that Debian does not have. That may be the issue here.
