[Bug 1305139] [NEW] Chromium inner portion of window stuck at top

2014-04-09 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

Often (but not always), when opening new tabs in Chromium, the inner
portion of the window (the "client" portion, minus scrollbars, toolbars,
menus and window borders) becomes stuck at the top of the z-order, and
any other windows in the OS are drawn underneath it. Additionally, if
you click on any folder in the bookmark toolbar, the menu for that
folder is drawn underneath the same client window.

[Bug 1079813] [NEW] Inconsistent results from "%p"

2012-11-16 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

When I run this:

convert joint/* \
-limit memory 512MiB \
-type Grayscale \
-crop 2x1@ +adjoin \
-set filename:fn '%t-%[fx:1+(p&1)].%e' \
+repage \
'separate/%[filename:fn]'

Sometimes the "p" in the fx call doesn't update properly, leading to
files getting inconsistently overwritten, like this (output from
'verbose'):

[Bug 924053] [NEW] /usr/share/icons/gnome/*x*/places does not exist

2012-01-30 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

I was getting these any time I tried to do anything with apt:

Setting up gnome-colors-common (5.5.1-1) ...
update-alternatives: using
/usr/share/icons/gnome-colors-common/scalable/places/gnome-colors.svg to
provide /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/places/start-here.svg (start-here.svg)
in auto mode.
update-alternatives: error: unable to make
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/places/start-here.png.dpkg-tmp a symlink to
/etc/alternatives/start-here-24.png: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing gnome-colors-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
No apport report written because the error message indicates its a followup
error from a previous failure.
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of
gnome-brave-icon-theme:
 gnome-brave-icon-theme depends on gnome-colors-common; however:
Package gnome-colors-common is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing gnome-brave-icon-theme (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

It turns out that apt was expecting there to be "places" subdirectories where
there were none(i.e. /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/places) when it was trying to
make "alternatives" symlinks.

This seems to me to be some sort of dependency or package
misconfiguration...

[Bug 416475] [NEW] Codeblocks IDE always crashes on window dock

2009-08-20 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: codeblocks

I use Codeblocks 8.02-0ubuntu2. Whenever I try to dock any of the
floating windows, this always appears in the console:

The program 'codeblocks' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 105202 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Then the IDE exits immediately. Totally dead.

[Bug 256086] Re: Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder

2008-10-17 Thread Greg Toombs
I am re-opening this bug. I've been adding more RSS feeds with normal-
looking titles, and several of them exhibit this behaviour: When I
initially try to subscribe, Thunderbird displays "Verifying feed" but
never gets past that. If I try to cancel and it asks me if I'm sure, the
yes/no choice doesn't affect the outcome. A broken folder is created,
often with a name with numbers in it, that you can't delete, and the
folder is empty and does not receive new RSS items from the feed. For
me, the following feeds have this behaviour (so far):

http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/rss/
http://rss.cbc.ca/lineup/topstories.xml

To contrast (if you can detect any difference) here are some feeds that do work:
http://www.projectcensored.org/feed/
http://www.democracynow.org/democracynow.rss
http://indymedia.org/en/main-features.rss
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Engrishdotcom

This behaviour is consistent and a little aggravating for an otherwise
acceptable aggregator.

[Bug 256086] Re: Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder

2008-09-23 Thread Greg Toombs
I think only the NTFS part is important ;-)
My theory is that Thunderbird for Linux assumes that it's okay to put a "?"
into a filename, and it is for sane filesystems like EXT, but not FAT or NTFS,
as that's reserved as a wildcard, so things blow up.

[Bug 257703] [NEW] Netx cache configuration dialogue has bad font

2008-08-13 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

Upon enabling the "proposed" gutsy repository, Netx was added. When I
went to the first Java-enabled page in Firefox, it brought up a dialog
that asked me where to put the repository (defaulting to /tmp). However,
the font in the dialog was blocky and un-antialiased and grainy.

uname -a
Linux 2.6.24-20-generic #1 SMP Mon Jul 28 13:49:52 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

libnetx-java version 0.5-1

The dialog should just use the system font (if that's possible).

I'll post any other debugging information if you let me know where it
is. Cheers.

[Bug 256086] Re: Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder

2008-08-12 Thread Greg Toombs
Note that if I try to rename the current feed folder to add a question
mark, Thunderbird still says that it cannot rename it, probably because
the profile is on a FAT partition. I'm not sure if this would qualify as
a bug or a feature request to work around this limitation of FAT. I
suppose Thunderbird should code a work-around for this situation,
possibly by using some escape sequence.

[Bug 256086] Re: Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder

2008-08-12 Thread Greg Toombs
I resubscribed to the feed and this time it's fine. I believe the
problem was caused by a combination of an old version of Thunderbird
that used to access the profile, the question mark in the feed title,
and perhaps the fact that the profile sits on a FAT partition that can't
handle question marks.

[Bug 256086] [NEW] Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder

2008-08-08 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

I signed up to an RSS feed in Thunderbird, "Lolcats 'n' Funny Pictures -
I Can Has Cheezburger?". The RSS feed never downloaded anything, so I
try to unsubscribe. In Subscriptions, the folder no longer has a +
beside it, and when selected the Delete button is disabled. In the
folder tree, if I try to delete the folder, Thunderbird says:

A folder with that name already exists. Please choose a different name.

If I try renaming the folder, Thunderbird says:

The folder could not be renamed. Perhaps the folder is being reparsed,
or the new name is not a valid folder name.

When I restarted Thunderbird and tried to delete the folder again, the
original folder was not removed, and two new folders appear in the Trash
folder:

Lolcats 'n' Funny Pictures - I Can Has Cheezburc69489bd
Lolcats 'n' Funny Pictures - I Can Has Cheezburger69ecb920

I can successfully delete these folders. I try to delete the original,
it says a folder already exists with the same name, I successfully
rename it this time, successfully delete it, but then when I restart
thunderbird the original has appeared again and when I try to delete
that the two corrupted folders appear in my trash again.

I'm pretty much going in circles here and don't know what to do.
(Lolcats have infected my Thunderbird account.) Nothing appears on the
command line if I run Thunderbird from there. Any ideas?

[Bug 145658] Re: xfce4-terminal graphical corruption

2008-05-08 Thread Greg Toombs
Sorry about the delay. In Gutsy, this problem seems to be caused by a
bug in fglrx, and only when compositing is enabled. There are a host of
other rendering glitches that also occur when compositing is enabled.
xfce compositing works "most of the time", but some windows often show
garbage video memory. In Hardy none of these problems occur anymore, so
I would mark this as 'fixed' rather than 'invalid'.

[Bug 50236] Re: sparc64.Installation fails at "Booting Linux..."

2008-01-13 Thread Greg Toombs
I've tried netbooting an Ultra 10. All of the 2.4 kernels I've tried
from gentoo work. All of the other kernels I've tried from gentoo,
debian and ubuntu, which are all 2.6, fail in various ways.

I've tried dapper, edgy and feisty builds of the netboot image. They all
behave similarly to what's described above - they freeze (or seem to
freeze) at "booting linux". Has there been any progress on this?

[Bug 182228] usplash default resolution is invalid

2008-01-12 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

The default /etc/usplash.conf contained the following code.

# Usplash configuration file
xres=1280
yres=1024

This isn't good, because my video card definitely doesn't have that
mode. This mode should not have been selected. 1280x800 should have been
probed instead.

It turns out that when I add the following to the end of /etc/modprobe.d

I no longer get complaints about position buffers in dmesg. But playback
is still silent, so there's no improvement.

Ogilvie, could you try adding

and see if anything improves, and recheck dmesg?

[Bug 145658] xfce4-terminal graphical corruption

[Bug 144437] Thunderbird periodically hangs

2007-09-24 Thread Greg Toombs
Public bug reported:

On my Toshiba A100 laptop with Gutsy installed, Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
(20070919) periodically hangs for about thirty seconds. For this time it
uses 100% CPU and does not redraw, and uses a large amount of memory.
When it eventually recovers, the memory is freed. Stranger, the same
thing seems to happen in windows (the profile is shared between windows
and linux), but this has only started happening recently, and no
significant changes to my profile have been made - for instance in terms
of number of stored local messages, etc. My only idea so far is that
after one of the gutsy updates, something in the linux version of
Thunderbird altered my profile and affected behaviour in both systems.

I'm not sure what other useful debugging information to include, but
will take requests.

[Bug 66516] Re: [Regression] Suspend to ram doesn't work anymore on Toshiba Portege M200

2007-09-19 Thread Greg Toombs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 50031 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/50031

I can confirm this problem as well. Suspending used to work fine on
Feisty, but now I get the behaviour described above where the power
light remains lit and the system hangs completely.
