[Bug 217892] Re: gdm with x11vnc not honoring KillInitClients

2009-08-03 Thread Gustavo Narea
Why is this bug incomplete? I can't find any unanswered question.

Please let me know if you need more information. I'm facing this bug in
Jaunty too and I'd love to help.

It'd also be great to upgrade x11vnc. The version provided for Jaunty is
pretty, pretty old (it was released two years ago!). Newer versions
support a new argument (-reopen) which fixes the ugly cursor issue
caused by the -noxfixes workaround.

[Bug 109934] Re: Black and white S-video output only on PAL TVs with intel video driver

2009-08-02 Thread Gustavo Narea
OK, I think I found the ultimate workaround. :)

If you hate running randr all the time, as much as I do, you can try
this:

1.- Make sure your 'Section Device' contains this:
Driver intel
2.- Add the following section:
Section Monitor
Identifier TV
Option TV Format PAL
EndSection

That's it. Every time you turn your computer on, you'll see everything
with color on your TV.

See the attachment for a sample xorg.conf file.

HTH.

condensed list of things I can try if I experience this freezing.

I have the same hardware and, as I reported here recently, this bug is solved
with UXA:

UXA works perfectly here. Just add that line to you X config, reboot and enjoy
your Ubuntu install.

UXA fixes all the bugs of the previous driver: Display corruptions and X
freezes. Plus, it doesn't introduce _any_ bugs.

So, I'd really recommend it to you.

A workaround for this bug is to use UXA, at least on my system. I
haven't noticed side-issues with this solution, it works like a charm.

Given that it's obviously a problem with the default version of xserver-

[Bug 375358] Re: [Jaunty] My system freezes several times a day; Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work.

2009-05-15 Thread Gustavo Narea
@Mathieu: You were right, there was a program eating the CPU. This
wasn't shown in the attachments above because I took ~3 minutes to turn
on the other computer and log the output requested after the freeze.

But today it crashed and the other computer was already on, so I could
check `top` immediately and it showed that kontact was using 101% of
the CPU. It surprised me because everything was working fine, it must
have reached that point in one millisecond.

I logged that and came to launchpad.net to attach such file, but as
usual my computer froze (this time without kontact open) and I went to
the other computer to log `top` with the new freeze, but by mistake I
overrode the previous file -- and this time, top showed no program using
more than 10% of the CPU.

2009-05-13 Thread Gustavo Narea
I'm using that laptop and all the hotkeys are working like a charm. They
didn't work like this out-of-the-box, though; initially:

1.- All the keys were ultra sensitive, which I solved in System Settings -
Keyboard Mouse - Keyboard repeat - Delay = 600.
2.- The four audio-specific keys didn't have an action assigned, which I fixed
via Amarok's Global Shortcuts (Settings - Configure shortcuts).

[Bug 375358] [NEW] [Jaunty] My system freezes several times a day; Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work.

2009-05-12 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell XPS M1330 and Kubuntu Jaunty is _unusable_ here*. It
freezes _very_ often, with no obvious pattern, so I can't suggest a
package; and I don't use 3D effects at all, so I don't think this is the
same as Bug #359392.

There are a few interesting things in these freezes:
1.- I can still move the mouse cursor normally, but clicks don't work --
because the applications, the panels, the system tray... are all frozen.
 2.- I can't restart X with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. (Yes, I know it's disabled by
default, but I re-enabled it and it does work when the system is not frozen.)
3.- Many times it happens when I'm using Kmail or Konqueror. There's no URL or
anything like that I can point you to to try to reproduce this bug, because
they're no obvious pattern -- It's even crashed when I was reading a simple
HTML document locally.

The computer can freeze after a few minutes or after hours being on,
it's absolutely unpredictable.

* It's absolutely unusable because I always loose what I'm doing and I
don't know how to avoid these freezes. I also think it could damage my
hard disk, because when it's frozen I just can press the power button to
turn it off.

2008-11-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
One more update on this issue:

I can't connect to WPA2 networks, although _sometimes_ it works if I re-
try over and over again.

I don't know why in Intrepid you enabled ndiswrapper while fwcutter worked so
great on this machine. It seems to be causing this problem because it's solved
after I commented this line:
# replaced by b43 and ssb.
#blacklist bcm43xx
and replaced the lines I mentioned above when I reported this problem with:
blacklist b43
blacklist ssb
blacklist ndiswrapper
in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

Now the problem with this solution is that it takes *ages* to connect.

PS: Just in case:

 sudo ndiswrapper -l
 bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4311) present (alternate driver: ssb)

[Bug 291220] Re: [Intrepid-regression] BCM4311 stops working with 2.6.27-7-generic, with solution

2008-11-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Oh, one more thing:

If I start my laptop with the same contents /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
has by default, then the WiFi LED never turns on and to connect to my
network I have to do the next procedure every time I start my computer:
Go to System - Hardware Drivers and enable the B43 wireless driver (the
first of the list; there are two with the same title, but the second one
has no description; by the way, before enabling it, I see a message that
warns that another version of the driver is in use). Note that this is
with an updated Intrepid system, as when Intrepid was just out this
didn't even work without the procedure I mentioned when I reported this
bug.

When I enable that driver, knetworkmanager connects to my WiFi network
quickly. However, my eth0 interface is apparently disabled.

On the other hand, with the b43/ssb modules blacklisted, there's only
one driver available whose name is wl.

This is a mess. In Gutsy and Hardy I just enabled the only available
driver _once_ and I _never_ had problems.

Please let me know if I can help you further. I wouldn't like newcomers
to face this problem.

[Bug 283832] Re: bzr notification icon should not be permanent

2008-11-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Since everybody, including myself, hates the icon, why isn't it removed?

Cheers.

[Bug 291220] [NEW] Upgrade from Hardy makes impossible to connect to wireless/wired networks

2008-10-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

After I upgraded to Intrepid, it was impossible for me to access
wireless and wired networks. Everything worked when I added the
following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:

blacklist bcm43
blacklist bcm43legacy
blacklist b43
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist bc43xx
blacklist b43xx

I know only two of them actually work, but I could not remember the
exact name of the modules.

Please note that when I installed Hardy, I did *not* edit that file. I
just used the retricted drivers manager, just like I tried in Intrepid
but didn't work.

[Bug 291233] [NEW] Upgrade to Intrepid breaks the Lighttpd auth module

2008-10-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lighttpd

In Hardy, the Lighty auth module was enabled here:
/etc/lighttpd/conf-available/10-auth.conf
But in Intrepid, it's here:
/etc/lighttpd/conf-available/05-auth.conf

So, that means that if this module was enabled in Hardy, Lighttpd won't start
until:
 1. You delete: /etc/lighttpd/conf-enabled/10-auth.conf
 2. You run, again: sudo lighty-enable-mod auth

[Bug 283801] [NEW] Fastcgi is not enabled when phpMyAdmin is installed to work with Lighttpd

2008-10-15 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lighttpd

I installed phpMyAdmin and I choose to configure it to work with
Lighttpd while apt-get was installing it, however it didn't enable
Lighttpd's module fastcgi, which is obviously required by phpMyAdmin.

I was getting 403-Forbidden errors until I enabled this module.

Please, enable it when phpMyAdmin is configured to work with Lighttpd.

(I'm running Hardy)

[Bug 267193] [NEW] python-ldap is ignored by easy_install

2008-09-06 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-ldap

If I install python-ldap via apt-get and then I try to install a package
that depends on python-ldap (say repoze.who.plugins.ldap) via
easy_install, the python-ldap install by apt-get is ignored and
easy_install tries to download and install it by itself.

This doesn't happen with packages such as python-openid.

[Bug 236027] [NEW] Lighttpd's fastcgi module assumes php5-cgi is installed

2008-05-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

By default, when this module is enabled it assumes php5-cgi is
installed, which makes Lighty crash *with* *no* *warning* if php5-cgi is
not installed.

You should either make php5-cgi a dependency of lighttpd or just don't
assume it's installed (in config file /etc/lighttpd/conf-
enabled/10-fastcgi.conf).

I'm using Hardy.

[Bug 236105] [NEW] Missing socket for FastCGI in Lighttpd

2008-05-30 Thread Gustavo Narea
Public bug reported:

If I enable FastCGI in Lighttpd, Lighty crashes because FastCGI's
configuration refers to a missing socket file: /tmp/php.socket

In the errors log file, people will find something like:
=
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (log.c.75) server started
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (mod_fastcgi.c.1029) the fastcgi-backend /usr/bin/php-cgi
failed to start:
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (mod_fastcgi.c.1033) child exited with status 9
/usr/bin/php-cgi
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (mod_fastcgi.c.1036) If you're trying to run PHP as a
FastCGI backend, make sure you're using the FastCGI-enabled version.
You can find out if it is the right one by executing 'php -v' and it should
display '(cgi-fcgi)' in the output, NOT '(cgi)' NOR '(cli)'.
For more information, check
http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/Docs%3AModFastCGI#preparing-php-as-a-fastcgi-programIf
this is PHP on Gentoo, add '$
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (mod_fastcgi.c.1340) [ERROR]: spawning fcgi failed.
2008-05-30 12:40:58: (server.c.908) Configuration of plugins failed. Going down.

The work-around is:
sudo touch /tmp/php.socket
sudo chown www-data /tmp/php.socket

(Using Hardy)

[Bug 235306] [NEW] Warning: The home directory `/var/lib/pootle' does not belong to the user you are currently creating.

2008-05-27 Thread Gustavo Narea
