[Bug 1882440] [NEW] BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error) when using xfreerdp

2020-06-07 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

when using xfreerdp with Windows 10 and using the a screen capture tool on the
remote host (windows 10) xfreerdp consistently fails with BadLength X error.
I reported this also to xfreerdp, where it was designated as potential internal
error in X/Xlib.

2019-09-04 Thread Hans-Peter Schmidt via ubuntu-bugs
I had the same problem with 237-3ubuntu10.28 AND 237-3ubuntu10.26.

237-3ubuntu10.25 was the solution.

[Bug 1834055] Re: Cannot run Update-Manager 1:18.04.11.10 + Segmentation fault

2019-07-01 Thread Hans Peter
I solved the problem with the Update-Manager.

It was a OpenSSL+libSSL problem. Removed old traces of compiled OpenSSL
and re-installed the .deb packages.

(SOLVED)

[Bug 1629788] Re: GUI won't start after upgrade to Kubuntu 16.10 Beta 2

2016-10-04 Thread Hans-Peter
After a reboot I got a message instead of the cursor: Something (I can't
remember exactly what is was) failed and I should issue " systemctl status
sddm.service " to examine the situation.
The output showed, that sddm.service was requesting the contents of the
/etc/X11/default-display-manager file. In my case the file contained 'lightdm'.
I changed this to sddm and now everything is fine.

Upgrade went fine, no issues whatsoever. But now GUI won't start. When I boot

on the top left of the screen.
I get a console with CTRL-ALT-F1 but can't start X. Xorg.0.log doesn't show

[Bug 1570040] Re: [Feature request] In dual-SIM configurations show SIM-card used in call list

2016-04-14 Thread Hans-Peter
I'd like to have another piece of info provided with the caller (or the called
person) .
I'd like to see not only the name, but also the category (don't know how this
is called) of the number.
eg I'd like to see something like 'Mother@Home' or 'Mother@Mobile'

without function.
Regarding bug #1338970: How to define a voicemail number on the SIM card? If I

[Bug 1521106] [NEW] ubuntu touch: music app is draining battery

2015-11-30 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

This is on bq aquaris 4.5.
I noticed that music app is draining battery. I guess (but I am not entirely
shure) that this came with OTA-8. I did this test many times: Start a few
applications (system settings, gallery, dialer), bring today scope to top, lay
away the phone for a few hours. When I look at the charge level graph then, I
see a horizontal line. Next, stop all apps and start music app. When a song
starts to play, I immediately pause the player and bring today scope to front.
Lay away the phone for 4 hours. After that, when I look at the charge level
graph, the line drops with 45 degrees. When I start top (via ssh) there is no
activity on the phone. music-app, media-hup, nothing pops up. After killing
(via quit from the chooser) music app, the graph gets horizontal again.
regards,
Hans-Peter

[Bug 1494641] [NEW] sending messages from today scope is clumsy

2015-09-11 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

On a bq aquaris 4.5, stable channel.
It is very cumbersome to send a message to a fav contact from the today
scope. Actually, not sending the message, that works ok (ok, you have to hit
[more] to get to it). But when the message is sent, the work begins. The back
arrow (if you decide not to send the message) doesn't bring you back to the
contact details but brings you back (why back, I haven't been there before) to
the list of conversations. From there you can swipe (from the right) back to
the contact details, which are not of interest anymore, and another back arrow
brings you back to the today scope where you can choose another fav contact.
That is so clumsy!

Hans-Peter

[more] to get to it). But when the message is sent, the work begins. The back
error (if you decide not to send the message) doesn't bring you back to the
contact details but brings you back (why back, I haven't been there before) to
the list of conversations. From there you can swipe (from the right) back to
the contact details, which are not of interest anymore, and another back arrow
brings you back to the today scope where you can choose another fav contact.
That is so clumsy!

[Bug 1494680] [NEW] dialer app laggy since September OTA

2015-09-11 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

Since the September OTA, dialer app is laggy on a bq aquaris 4.5.
If you hit the number keys, the numbers will be displayed with delay. The delay
varies, but is mostly there and substantial.
This is even if dialer ist the only active app and the cpu is idling.

[Bug 1490421] [NEW] feature request on ubuntu touch: show song info on lock screen

[Bug 1490243] [NEW] gallery app deleted wrong pictures

2015-08-30 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

This happened only once. I couldn't reproduce it. This is how it went:
I edited the second to last picture (rotate). Then I rotated the third to last
picture. On both occasions, I didn't save the changes but reverted to original
(I guess, cant verify, because the pictures are gone).
Then I deleted the last picture. After the delete dialog, this last picture was
still shown. So I deleted it again. Still the picture was there. So I quit and
returned to the picture browser. The two pictures (2nd and 3rd to last) were
gone. I rebooted the phone, but they were gone.

[Bug 1490245] [NEW] usability issue when placing a call from today scope

2015-08-30 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

There are actually three issues:

1) When you hit the red Call Button, the call isn't placed, but the dialer
app is startet and a number is copied to the
dialer field. You have to hit the green Button. I guess this is annoying.
The red button says Call not Start dialer.
2) When the call is done and you revert to the today scope, You are still in
the Contact screen of the person you called.
You have to hit the back button to call another favourite contact. Most
(every!) time I called a person I am done with that
contact. I don't need the contact details anymore. So after hitting Call
it would be nice if the today scope would
revert to the today main screen automatically.
3) You never see on which telephone number a person is called when you place
the call from the favourites screen of the today
scope. You don't see the number on the contacts screen, and the dialer app
shows the name only. It would be nice,
if the dialer would show something like Erwin Lindemann@office or in
addition to the name (Erwin Lindemann) the number.

[Bug 1474389] Re: ubuntu touch contacts app: no access to contacts on SIM

2015-07-30 Thread Hans-Peter
My providers name is A1 (a Austrian provider)

I can navigate to settings - phone - A1 services
I get an empty list there (nothing there but the title bar A1 Services).
So I guess my phone can't access the services on the SIM.
I don't want to import these special numbers into an address book. This is only
a workaround.
Right now, it is not possible to access my voice mail (special service called
A1 MAILBOX) by typing
MAILBOX into the contacts search field, because no service entry is shown in
the list of contacts.

[Bug 1458771] [NEW] ubuntu touch: today scope / favourite contacts / default phone number

2015-05-26 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

Hi
Don't know if the home scope is the correct place to complain about the missing
default telephone number. But it definitely hurts most there. When you select
a fav contact and hit the call button, it copies the first (I guess) number of
the contact to the number field in the dialer app. This happens with gmail
contacts as with local contacts. I can't find no possibility (nor in gmail nor
in contacts app) to move a phone number to the top of the list or mark it as
preferred or default.
So this is the question: Is it possible to mark a phone number as the default
phone number of a contact and does fav contacts use this number when you hit
the call button?

[Bug 1458784] [NEW] ubuntu touch: today scope / favourite contacts bad integration

2015-05-26 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

Hi!

Just two things I'd like to see in fav contacts: If you select a
contact and hit the call button, it doesn't place the call, but it only
opens the dialer app and copies the phone number to the input field. You
have to hit the green button to place the call. I think this is
annoying. If I hit the call button, I want the person to be called
immediately. There is no benefit of not placing the call. There are no
options in the dialer app. You just have to hit the green button.

The other thing is a little inconsistency with the dialer app. If you select a
contact and hit More and Open Button, you get to the properties screen of the
contacts app. Contrary to that, if you select contacts in the dialer app and
select a contact you first get presented a list with the persons phone numbers
and icons for messages and properties. If you want to call a number you have to
tap the number. I think, most time you select a contact from fav contacs, you
want to contact this person and for that, it should be the same routine as in
the dialer app. Most disturbing is, because you are taken to the properties of
the contact, you must not tap the phone number itself, but the telephone icon
at the right edge of the screen.
In my opinion, first thing you should be presented after hitting the more
button, is that small list as in the dialer app. Even better, forget about the
more button. The list could be presented immediately. So my ideal fav. contacts
screen has the red (why not green as in the dialer app) Call button, which I
like and then the small list as in the dialer app (with all the contacts phone
numbers and the message icons, and the contacts properties icon. ) This would
hold another advantage: You see which number is called when you hit the Call
button (supposed it always dials the first one from the list). Right now, you
never see which type (home, work, ...) of number is called when you tap the
Call Button. You don't see anything in the fav. app and the dialer app just
shows the number, not the type of number.

[Bug 1303266] [NEW] kubuntu 14.04: gui strange behaviour

2014-04-06 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

Hi guys,

14.04 is working great, but I notice this strange thing. I have a Radeon 3100
in my PC. It has two connectors, DVI and VGA.
GUI is working seamless, glxgears showing 60FPS under all conditions (all
effects enabled, wobbly windows and dragging the glxgears window around ...).
When I connect the TV set to the VGA connector everything works as it should.
But after the first boot after shutting down the PC (and disconnecting the TV
set) the GUI is not seamless anymore. glxgears
shows FPS between 50 and 60, dropping down to 30 if dragging the window around.
After the second boot it is the same. The gui is stuttering.
After the third boot everything is fine. No stutter, glxgears shows 60FPS under
all conditions.

This is always the same. The system needs to be booted 3 times until it
is recovered from the connection at the VGA port.

I have added the logs, in which I can't see anything noticeable. But
maybe you guys do

regards,
Hans-Peter

[Bug 1290232] [NEW] kubuntu 14.04: graphics driver not working properly

2014-03-10 Thread Hans-Peter
Public bug reported:

Did the upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 yesterday (9-mar-2014). After that,
desktop behaviour was strange. I realized that the graphics driver chose the
strange resolution for both my display (as DVI-0, std resolution = 1680x1050)
and the tv screen on VGA-0 (std resolution = 1920x1080). When i turn on the tv
set, graphics driver switches to resoltion 1280x1024.
It is not possible to set the position relatively to each other. It always says
'absolute'. One time it was not possible to 'de-unify' the screens. So i
experience a lot of strange behaviour.
My graphics card is a Radeon 3100.
I think base problem is, that the ati-driver cannot be loaded. fglrx driver,
can't be loaded, either. But fglrx quit support for my card some time ago.
Until 13.04 the radeon driver was working very fine.

[Bug 1290232] Re: kubuntu 14.04: graphics driver not working properly

2014-03-10 Thread Hans-Peter
Hi Jörg,

I removed the ati-driver and did a fresh install. After reboot the
driver was working well (Blur effect was on, for example). When I
plugged the TV screen into the card, resolution somehow messed up, but I
was able to start the Display Configuration in System Settings. I did
all the adjustments and applied them. The accept dialog did not accept
anything and the screen was frozen. It did not revert to the old
settings, too. So I killed the X process and after that, it came up
nicely and this is what I have till now. If you want to, I'll keep an
eye on iy and report into this bug.

regards,
Hans-Peter

BTW: the upgrade to 14.04 was not smooth. It stalled and I had to issue
dpkg --configure all manually. Maybe the graphics driver thing is a
result of this.

Hi

I did a reboot with the tv set on and everything was working fine. But
then I turned off the tv set. It seems as if the gui hasn't noticed
that. I can drag windows out of the display screen to where the tv
screen is configured.

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2014-01-13 Thread Hans-Peter
Christopher, I've already tried this earlier in the process (tried to bisect
the kernel), but failed on it. Also I guess, bisecting is not really
necessary, because we know the point in time when the error arose. On the other
hand, in Trusty the problem is most possible solved. My plan now is, to try the
latest development release every week or so. If the issue is definitely gone,
I'll report it in this bug report. Agree?

Christopher, I've already done this. First of all, I tried Ubuntu. But this was

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2014-01-09 Thread Hans-Peter
Christopher, I tried with the latest kubuntu image. Unfortunately the desktop
was not usable, because the mouse was missing and the desktop was only half
build (kicker was missing...) but I was able to switch to a console screen and
have a look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I found a lot of entries of the RADEON
driver, showing good progress. There was no warning or error. So I guess, the
issue is fixed in the trusty release. How should we proceed?

[Bug 1165965] Re: External display stopped working

2013-11-28 Thread Hans-Peter Schadler
I can also confirm that it works more reliable with 3.12.0-031200rc6-generic
(and 3.12.0-031200-generic), but it is still not perfect. I would have to
ability to test it on two cases where it does not work. Both are beamers
(different models, I have to check which one exactly) and both are connected
over very long VGA cables.
This is still an annoying bug, at least there was some progress so that it
started to work again for most monitors I tried. Now it would be nice to get it
working on beamers too.

Can I do something to test this? I have checked the dmesg messages and there
are no messages like
[drm:intel_dp_i2c_aux_ch] *ERROR* too many retries, giving up
what happened before kernel 3.12 (and maybe kernel 3.11.4). From xrandr output
I noticed, that the DP1 connector is shown as disconnected and also no modes
are shown (before kernel 3.12 there was sometimes a resolution of the external
monitor detected).

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2013-11-04 Thread Hans-Peter
Christopher,
I went to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/linux/ and followed the
link show build which brought me to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/linux/+builds. There I found i386
build of linux 3.11.0-8.15 in ubuntu saucy on September 20th should be the
one, which was working for me. I got the packages from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.11.0-8.15 (4 packages, 2 headers,
image, image-extra) and installed them. After booting this kernel

hp@hp:~$ uname -a
Linux hp 3.11.0-8-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 20 04:11:16 UTC 2013 i686
athlon i686 GNU/Linux
hp@hp:~$

desktop effects were not available still.

This leads to two questions:
1) Was the 3.11.0-8.15 kernel included in the saucy upgrade distribution
package when I upgraded to saucy on Sep.25?
If not, how can I find out which one was included? I could also try the
previous and the next kernel to that one.
2) What makes us believe the problem lies in the kernel and e.g. not in the X
server area?

Hans-Peter

Christopher, please see http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/SSD/Scheduler and search
for elevator. It explains, that it is a disk IO Scheduling mechanism. Should
not interfere with graphics. I'll get the development release tonight and test
what's happening.

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2013-11-04 Thread Hans-Peter
I had no success with the latest development release. System boots to
the stage, where one can choose wether to try or to install ubuntu. when
I chose try ubuntu, the screen got black, I saw the mouse pointer,
which I could move around and this is how the system looks like the next
30 minutes (or as long as I wait). I've tried to boot with two
different USB sticks. BTW, I have already installed the upstream kernel

hp@hp:/proc$ cat version
Linux version 3.12.0-031200rc4-generic (apw@gomeisa) (gcc version 4.6.3
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #201310080738 SMP Tue Oct 8 11:49:39 UTC 2013
hp@hp:/proc$

but as always - no desktop effects.

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2013-11-04 Thread Hans-Peter
** Description changed:

On raring, my radeon 3100 was working pretty well. desktop cube switch was
working, for example. Blur effect slowed the desktop down. When I upgraded to
saucy on sept. 25 I soon noticed that the desktop was very fast. I could even
enable blur effect and it didn't do any harm. After the update on Sept. 30. all
the graphics performance was gone. Most desktop effects are disabled.
Compositing type is set to XRender, Qt graphics sytem is set to Native. When I
try to set Compositing Type to OpenGL and Qt graphics sytem to Raster, I get
the message, that 6 desktop effect could not be enabled. Detail window says
this is because they require OpenGL. I have no idea where to start digging, so
any help is appreciated.
  regards,Hans-Peter
BTW: I'm not using the fglrx driver. I guess they quit support for the 3100 a
year ago, or maybe two (or they messed something up)

[Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2013-11-03 Thread Hans-Peter
Hi Christopher,
thanks for your help. I had visited the HP download site. The enhancements of
3.14 were a more reliable flash process - so I didn't install it at first. But
to be on the safe side, I did now.
After finishing the flash process, I could not observe any changes. Same
behaviour as in the bug description. What makes me wonder is the fact, that it
was working for a few days.

hp@hp:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
786F6 v03.14
11/15/2011
hp@hp:~$

best regards,
Hans-Peter
