[Bug 747627] [NEW] Sony VAIO VGN-SR51MF/S does not wake up from sleep

2011-04-01 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm using Kubuntu 11.04 beta, but this bug was already present in
previous versions of (K)Ubuntu.

My laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-SR51MF/S. The video card is an ATI Radeon Mobility
HD4570.
glxinfo says the opengl renderer string is "OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4
on AMD RV710"

When I switch my laptop on, the screen stays black and the harddisk
activity led keeps burning - not flickering, but continuously burning.
No useful activity seems to be happening.

I closed the bug with the resolution "Invalid". If you think "Won't fix"
is better, could you change it to that? Thanks!

[Bug 636407] [NEW] Bluedevil tries to operate without the adapter powered on

2010-09-12 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluedevil

In the 'configure adapters' section of bluedevil's taskbar icon context
menu, one can switch off the power of the bluetooth adapter.

When the power is switched off, all other commands and options remain
enabled.

I would expect bluedevil
- disables all other commands and some of the settings until the power is on
again
- (proposes to) switch on the power again if the user tries to interact with
bluetooth devices

[Bug 635359] [NEW] Bluedevil forgets added devices

2010-09-10 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluedevil

After I paired my laptop with my phone I would expect it to show up in
the list of 'Known Devices' in the taskbar icon's context menu. The
pairing succeeds (BlueDevil confirms this), but the phone does not show
up in the list.

[Bug 477757] Re: when trying to remove konqueror while activating fglrx using jockey-kde, i get this error and kpackagekit fails

2010-09-09 Thread Hans Bakker
I'm running Kubuntu Maverick now. Jockey-kde does not offer me to enable
fglrx, so I can't try.

Maybe someone else can test it?

Just a general test if jockey and kpackagekit handle the lock when
working next to each other should be OK, no need to test specifically
for ATI and Konqueror.

[Bug 50692] Re: New Sony Vaios hotkeys don't work (fn_key polling)

2010-03-27 Thread Hans Bakker
I am running Kubuntu Lucid with all updates applied and lsmod | grep sony
returns:
sony_laptop33756 0

So I think the sony-laptop module is installed.

The Mode, Activity and Settings hotkeys above the normal keyboard are
filed in different bug reports
(http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25835 for the non-
recognized buttons and http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-7063
for the shifted Activity buttons)

The zoom buttons do not work because of X11 not being able to use
keycodes with a value > 255
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11227)

The External display button simply has no action to connect it to. Maybe
an action to show the monitor setup KCM could be created?

[Bug 500613] Re: Monitor brightness can not be controlled by hotkeys

2010-03-27 Thread Hans Bakker
xev correctly recognizes the buttons as XF86MonBrightnessDown and
XF86MonBrightnessUp.

In System Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse the display brightness keys are
correctly recognized as brightness up and down when clicking "Custom
key" for a random action and pressing those buttons.

This means that X11 and Qt do know that the buttons are pressed.

Probably the bug is in KDE, then?

Btw, this is a regression from Kubuntu 9.10.

[Bug 525271] [NEW] Screen corruption on HDMI monitor when it is hotplugged

2010-02-21 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When my external monitor is connected from the start and I change its
resolution to 1920x1080, the resolution change goes well.

When my system is already running, I hotplug the HDMI monitor (e.g. I
come home, get my laptop out of standby and plug the monitor in) and I
select 1920x1080, the resolution changes but the video is corrupted (it
"swizzles") , as if a wrong frequency is used.

I'm using Kubuntu Lucid, all updates installed, on a Sony Vaio VNG-
SR51MF/S laptop with a Benq G2410HD monitor.

[Bug 518481] [NEW] nepomuk:/ KIO slave does not work properly / does not exist

2010-02-07 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

I'm running Kubuntu Lucid, all updates installed and nepomuk + strigi
running.

The nepomuk KIO slave does not work properly. When clicking a nepomuk
search result that points to a folder, dolphin tries to open it with an
address like "nepomuk:/res/0d327547-d96a-4c1e-9727-f8ecb3cd9f7c/" and
shows an error on the status bar "File or folder nepomuk:/res/0d327547
-d96a-4c1e-9727-f8ecb3cd9f7c/ does not exist".

I would expect dolphin to open the found folder.

The nepomuksearch:/ and timeline:/ KIO slaves are there, the nepomuk:/
KIO slave does not seem to be available

[Bug 505653] Re: make soprano depending on virtuoso-opensource

2010-01-29 Thread Hans Bakker
soprano-daemon now recommends virtuoso-server and virtuoso-drivers, but I think
this is not enough as it will complain about virtuoso not being installed until
it is installed.
As soprano is useless without virtuoso it should depend on it and not only
recommend it.

Strigi and Nepomuk need virtuoso as soprano-backend, and Nepomuk is
needed by Akonadi, so it seems quite logical not having to install
virtuoso by hand

[Bug 509329] [NEW] Both monitors are set too low resolution when second monitor is attached from system start

2010-01-18 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-SR51MF/S) which I use together with an external
monitor (Benq G2410HD). I'm running Kubuntu Lucid (development version, latest
updates installed).
The video card is an Ati Monility Radeon 4530 HD; i'm using the
xserver-xorg-video-ati drivers.

When looking at Screen settings, there is printed (Auto) after the
correct native resolutions for both the laptop screen as the external
monitor.

What the system does when booting while the HDMI cable is already
connected and the external monitor is switched on, is that it enables
the external monitor in clone mode (which is good), but it sets both
displays to 1024x768. This resolution is lower than both the native
resolution of my laptop (1280x800) and the native resolution of my
external monitor (which is 1920x1080).

What I would expect that if the system can detect which resolution is
the native resolution, it would enable clone mode and set the
resolutions to the respective *native resolutions* instead of setting
them both to 1024x768.

[Bug 506952] [NEW] krunner's input dialog is frozen sometimes

2010-01-13 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu lucid, all updates installed.

Sometimes after using KRunner to start an application, the last entered
command (first letters + autocomplete in grey) remains there frozen.

When pressing Alt-F2, the input field should be cleared and it should be
possible to enter new text.
Instead, the last entered command (first letters + autocomplete in grey) is
still there and there is also no cursor. When typing text, the extender comes
down and shows the good programs, but the input field is not updated
graphically.

[Bug 501629] [NEW] first login in kdm fails

2009-12-30 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Kubuntu version 10.04
kdebase-workspace 4:4.3.85-0ubuntu1
When kdm comes up and I enter my credentials and I press enter, the login
screen is replaced by the KDE loading screen. This lasts very short (2 sec max)
and then the KDM login screen is back again. Logging in the second time
succeeds.

This happens every time I try to log in.

What I expect is that logging in succeeds the first time.

[Bug 501478] [NEW] Qt reports wrong Qt::Launch* key

2009-12-29 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

I'm using Qt 4.6.0 on an up-to-date Kubuntu 10.04 system. My computer is
a Sony VAIO VGN-SR51MF/S laptop which has several programmable hotkeys.
These keys are differently interpreted by Qt and X11; it is as if the
mapping is shifted.

Press a key which generates XF86Launch1.
Qt will think Qt::Key_Launch3 is pressed.

Press a key which generates XF86Launch2.
Qt will think Qt::Key_Launch4 is pressed.

Press a key which generates XF86Launch3.
Qt will think Qt::Key_Launch5 is pressed.

Press a key which generates XF86Launch4.
Qt will think Qt::Key_Launch6 is pressed.

Maybe other keys were shifted, too, but I could not check that.

You can see the keys in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Udh_rfhfIo. The
keysyms which X11 thinks they are were checked using xev.

[Bug 379006] Re: Vaio keys not working on Sony VAIO VGN-SR29XN

2009-12-27 Thread Hans Bakker
At least the 192 keycode (fifth quick launch key) should be mapped to
XF86Launch5.

The 191 keycode (Mode button) could be mapped to XF86Option, while 193
could be mapped to XF86Tools.

[Bug 500613] [NEW] Monitor brightness can not be controlled by hotkeys

2009-12-26 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Using Kubuntu 10.04
xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.99+git20091125.0061c4db-0ubuntu1

In systemsettings, the Display Brightness Up and Down keys are correctly mapped
to the corresponding actions (in systemsettings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Global
Keyboard Shortcuts; component: KDE Daemon).
When using PowerDevil or the brightness slider in the corresponding Plasma
applet the brightness can be controlled.

However, the display brightness does not respond to the keys.

[Bug 500603] [NEW] jockey proposes fglrx, but fglrx does not support plymouth

2009-12-26 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Using jockey 0.5.5-0ubuntu4 on Kubuntu 10.04.

When enabling fglrx after jockey proposed that, the X-server cannot be
started anymore.

The startup messages say 'Can not connect to plymouth'.

Until fglrx supports plymouth, jockey should not propose fglrx because
when fglrx is installed the system can not start up anymore.

Users can solve their problem then using jockey-text -d xorg:fglrx

[Bug 497092] [NEW] suggest packages to be installed when a device is plugged in

2009-12-15 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

When an (usb) device is plugged in, the computer now only responds
correctly if the right software is installed. For example, it might
propose to import photos when a camera was attached or to sync music
files when a mp3 player was connected.

But if this software is not installed, the computer does not know what
to do with it and the user might not know what software to install.

In most cases, the user will know what to install, but it would be very
handy if the computer would suggest a few drawing programs (Krita for
example) when plugging in a tablet or if the computer would suggest to
install spacenavd when a 3DConnexxion SpaceNavigator was installed.

There could be written an addition to the Device Notifier Plasmoid
(possibly based on solid and packagekit?) that has a list of devices and
a list of corresponding packages that might be interesting for the user
that plugs in such a device. This addition might then list the device
that is plugged in and add an action to the plasmoid that lets the user
install the software.

Another idea is to notify the user via the Notification Plasmoid, like
this is already done for Konqueror (which proposes to install extra
packages for multimedia functionality).

The device list should probably be based on usb ids and not on device
classes, because some cameras or mp3 players are recognised as hard
drives, while they are more than that.

[Bug 491074] [NEW] In systemsettings, a hotkey can't be assigned to switch the external monitor on, or to set the system in standby

2009-12-01 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I am using Kubuntu 9.10 with updated KDE (4.3.3) packages.

[Bug 379006] Re: Vaio keys not working on Sony VAIO VGN-SR29XN

2009-11-29 Thread Hans Bakker
I have the following laptop:
Sony Corporation

acpi_listen returns the following:
- Vaio Mode button (used to switch hotkey sets):
- On keydown: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0041
- On keyup: ^...@sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0038
- Vaio Button 1 (leftmost Vaio button):

- On keyup: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0038
- Vaio Button 4:
- On keydown: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0042
- On keyup: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0038
- Vaio Button 5 (rightmost Vaio button):
- On keydown: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0043
- On keyup: ^...@sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0038
- Vaio Settings Button (used to change what actions these buttons are assigned
to):
- On keydown: sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0044
- On keyup: ^...@sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0038

It looks strange but on keyup of Button 5 and the Settings button there
always first comes a ^ and a @-sign).

I can't assign the Mode-button, Button 5 and the Settings-button to any
action in KDE, maybe because they behave different?

Please let me know if you need more information

hotkey sets (work, play and settings)
- The first 4 Activity hotkeys do work, but the fifth (the one which is most to
the right) does not
- The Settings hotkey which lets the user assign other actions to these sets

The Sleep and Switch LCD/External monitor do work, but in KDE, I could
not find a hotkey setting to which I could assign these hotkeys.

I attached my DSDT file, because the earlier mentioned forum thread
seams to be dead.

[Bug 484408] [NEW] kdm sometimes tries to login without asking for credentials and then stops at the hard disk icon

2009-11-17 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I am running Kubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.3.3 from PPA. This bug was also
present before I used the updated KDE.

Sometimes when I boot my computer, KDM does not ask for my credentials
(I did not set up autologin). Instead it tries to log in on its own
showing the KDE loading screen, but then it stops after it showed the
hard disk icon (normally the tools icon and the loading other icons
would show up after the hard disk icon).

The computer does respond to user input, though, because I can press
Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click shutdown or reboot, so the mouse and keyboard
are working.

Rebooting the computer helps, but this is not the way it should behave
of course

** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 482619] [NEW] samba often fails to download complete files

2009-11-14 Thread Hans Bakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I am running Kubuntu 9.10, all packages up to date.
The version of the samba package and related packages is 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1

My problem is that when I copy large files from my university network to
my laptop (using e.g. dolphin), the copying stops and I get an error
that the file could not be read. The file is still available then. The
KDE file copying service has no resume functionality when I try to copy
it again, so this is very frustrating.

When I use smbget -r to download a file, it stops downloading too after a
while, but I can resume it using this tool.
The error smbget returns is "Can't read 64000 bytes at offset X"
(X being some large number depending how much of the file is downloaded
already).

I did not try to copy files to the university network. I connect to that
network using openvpn.

[Bug 107738] Re: network-manager-pptp isn't installed by default

2009-11-08 Thread Hans Bakker
It is very intuitive that when you add a VPN-connection with network-
manager-kde (the vpn tab is there), you can't connect to it. Most people
will not think of installing this plugin as a solution for their
problem.
