After upgrading to 11.10, I get this too. After idling for a while, my monitors go into power-off state, and nothing seems to wake them up, not mouse movements, not keyboard activity, not anything. Ctrl-alt-F1 does not work, and hitting caps lock does not make the keyboard LED blink.
