I'm also seeing this problem with links not working and removing the

This was my handers.json if it's useful.

[Bug 1926030] Re: IR Remote Keys Repeat Many Times Starting with Kernel 5.8.0-49

2021-04-25 Thread Paul Harrison
This bug has been discussed on the MythTV mailing list and the problem commit
has been found.
https://lists.archive.carbon60.com/mythtv/users/636833

In summary the bad commit is this one:-

media: rc: fix timeout handling after switch to microsecond durations
BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1918516
commit 06b831588b639ad9d94e4789b0250562228722c2 upstream.

Commit 528222d853f92 ("media: rc: harmonize infrared durations to
microseconds") missed to switch some timeout calculations from
nanoseconds to microseconds. This resulted in spurious key_up+key_down
events at the last scancode if the rc device uses a long timeout
(eg 100ms on nuvoton-cir) as the device timeout wasn't properly
accounted for in the keyup timeout calculation.

Fix this by applying the proper conversion functions.

for kernel version 5.4-rc2, so this sound card is theoretically supported, if I
am understanding this correctly.

[Bug 1895422] Re: Sound card not detected on Dell Latitude 9510 (Realtek ALC711)

2020-09-14 Thread Harrison Chen
I installed linux-oem-20.04 and also turned on focal-proposed updates
and did apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.

Though -- this was only enough to get it to recognize the speaker. The
pitch/video speed is still wrong, so it's not really quite usable.

I should correct something I said earlier: video playback is just too
fast across the board, e.g. on Youtube it's playing at maybe double the
speed and the pitch is high. However, even when I slow the playback
speed down to normal (by selecting 0.5x speed) the pitch is *still* too
high.

I suspect the wrong driver is being used for the sound card. It is
still detecting "00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation
Device 02c8" instead of the Realtek card.

[Bug 1895422] Re: Sound card not detected on Dell Latitude 9510 (Realtek ALC711)

2020-09-13 Thread Harrison Chen
Update: I was able to get the speakers to make sound by installing
linux-oem and by allowing updates from focal-proposed.

As expected, alsamixer now shows a lot of options. There are still a few
issues:
1) The audio is stuttery, most playback is too fast (e.g. YouTube or MP3s), and
other playback doesn't work at all (e.g. Zoom).
2) The microphone is not detected.

Further, lspci still doesn't show the Realtek card.

[Bug 1877504] Re: libmysqlclient21 use of /usr/share/mysql collides with mariadb-server-core-10.3's use of the same directory

The crash affecting MythTV is fixed by this patch

 * debian/patches/charset_file_crash.patch: don't crash on malformed
charset files in mysys/charset.cc (LP: #1884809)

from this bug

I think the other issues with Mysql and MariaDB colliding still remains
though as hinted at in the bug description for #1884809?

2020-05-15 Thread Paul Harrison
I've done a little more debugging. Hopefully this output from a gdb
session helps.

The segfault occurs here because in this case cs->coll is NULL
https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/blob/8.0/mysys/charset.cc#L925

I don't know where the latin2_general_nopad_ci character set is coming
from since I don't see any reference to it in the upstream MySQL sources
on GitHub but I could be looking at the wrong sources.

[Bug 1877504] Re: new version of libmysqlclient21 8.0.20-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 causes mythtv-set, mythbackend and mythfrontend to segfault on exit.

2020-05-14 Thread Paul Harrison
Attached is a new reproducer that just uses the libmysqlclient directly
without using Qt.

It's based on an example from a zetcode tutorial.

I used this to compile it :-
gcc mysql_test.c -o mysql_test -I/usr/include `mysql_config --cflags --libs`

The interesting thing is if you comment out both mysql_server_end() and
mysql_library_end() at the bottom of the example it works without segfault.
Uncomment either call and it will segfault.

The mysql docs say mysql_server_end() is depreciated and new code should
use mysql_library_end() but they both cause a segfault. Ref:
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/mysql-server-end.html

This is the bt with debugging symbols installed for libmysqlclient which
is a little more informative and should help a MySQL dev pinpoint the
problem.

(gdb) bt
#0 0x7793823f in charset_uninit () at ./mysys/charset.cc:925
#1 0x7793d753 in my_end (infoflag=infoflag@entry=0) at
./mysys/my_init.cc:200
#2 0x778db173 in mysql_server_end () at ./libmysql/libmysql.cc:202
#3 0x54f0 in main ()

I'll also attached a bt with bt full in case it's useful.

[Bug 1877504] Re: new version of libmysqlclient21 8.0.20-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 causes mythtv-set, mythbackend and mythfrontend to segfault on exit.

2020-05-13 Thread Paul Harrison
My tests were done with a remote server running mariadb-server-10.1
running on a default Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS server.

The client side was running on Ubuntu 19.10 but others have also
reported problems on 20.04 LTS.

As Kim has said downgrading to libmysqlclient21 back to 8.0.17 does fix
the problem.

We have one user who has confirmed that the issue is not present when
using mysql 8 instead of Mariadb.

This simple test application may be easier for you to reproduce this
bug.

You will have to change the host, user name, password and database name to
valid options for you but once you do that the test app will crash every
time it exits.

[Bug 1877183] Re: segfault in mysql_server_end() from libmysqlclient.so.21

2020-05-12 Thread Paul Harrison
This bug also affects MythTV.

I can also reproduce this using the test app. You obviously need to
point it to a valid server and database for the bug to trigger. I'll
attach a slightly modified version of the test app that allows you to
change the DB credentials to a valid host, user, password and database.

The bug started to trigger after an update to libmysqlclient21 from
8.0.17 to 8.0.20.

The server is Ubuntu Server 18.04.4 LTS.

The client is on Kbuntu 19.10.

[Bug 1868009] [NEW] Xorg high CPU usage and stuttering on ubuntu 20.04

2020-03-18 Thread Harrison
Public bug reported:

Hi there!

I'm experiencing some stuttering on my machine after running updates
today Mar 18th. The stuttering is for all visual effects including mouse
movement, videos playing, dragging windows, animations and more. The
stuttering is not affecting sound (as far as I can tell). The stuttering
does not seem to happen on any regular interval, but does happen every
500-1000ms lasting for 50-100ms... just enough to be annoying enough to
open a bug report :P

I think that this issue is related to Xorg and the nvidia drivers doing
something, but I'm not sure what exactly could be the issue.

Here are some related links that led me to report this bug:
-
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/568173/nvidia-drivers-390-440-stuttering-ubuntu-20-04
  - This led me to start thinking that the problem could be with Xorg or nvidia
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1867352
  - I'm experiencing all of these problems reported (including the Xorg.conf
message), but I'm not getting a full freeze, I'm only getting stuttering)

Steps I've taken:
- Updated my system to latest packages on 20.04
- Installed [kwin-lowlatency](https://github.com/tildearrow/kwin-lowlatency)
when I thought it might be related to the compositor
- Toggled various compositor and Xorg settings
- A few reboots here and there

If I'm not including enough information please let me know what else to
include and how to report it.

Thanks!

I think that this issue is related to Xorg and the nvidia drivers doing
something, but I'm not sure what exactly could be the issue.

Here are some related links that led me to report this bug:
-
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/568173/nvidia-drivers-390-440-stuttering-ubuntu-20-04
  - This led me to start thinking that the problem could be with Xorg or nvidia
-
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1867352
  - I'm experiencing all of these problems reported (including the Xorg.conf
message), but I'm not getting a full freeze, I'm only getting stuttering)

Steps I've taken:
- Updated my system to latest packages on 20.04
- Installed [kwin-lowlatency](https://github.com/tildearrow/kwin-lowlatency)
when I thought it might be related to the compositor
- Toggled various compositor and Xorg settings
- A few reboots here and there

If I'm not including enough information please let me know what else to
include and how to report it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1232258] Re: tomcat7 installer fails to create symbolic links

2017-01-11 Thread Tom Harrison
Re @tdonohue post #7, I followed the path of adding symlinks to

sudo ln -s /var/lib/tomcat7/common/ common
sudo ln -s /var/lib/tomcat7/server/ server
sudo ln -s /var/lib/tomcat7/shared/ shared

I also needed to create

sudo ln -s /var/lib/tomcat7/common/ conf

mkdir temp

[Bug 1552249] Re: No builtin nor plugin backend for ipasam found

2016-10-05 Thread James Harrison
Hello,

In Alexander's comment, "We are fairly close with completing port of
Samba AD to MIT Kerberos upstream, this should happen in Samba 4.5-4.6
timeframe. "

My comment is for this bug. When he says "fairly close" is there any
time scale when we will see Xenial Samba packages compiled with MIT
Kerberos support. Samba 4.5 is public now.

Looking to use CentOS if this cant be resolved quickly.

Thanks

[Bug 1541649] Re: Plymouth needs a safe method to unlock the device on boot without a physical keyboard.

2016-05-15 Thread Harrison Smith
This affects the practicality of Ubuntu as an operating system on my
Dell Venue 8 Pro. Encrypting just the home directory is not really a
satisfactory alternative, nor is carrying a USB keyboard at all times. I
found this:

https://github.com/zrafa/onscreenkeyboard

as a rudimentary example of what could be implemented as a quick hack. I
don't have the experience to modify it in a very helpful way, but in my
tests, if I set MOUSEFILE in osk_mouse.c to "/dev/input/mice", I am able
to _somewhat_ control it via the touchscreen – emphasis on "somewhat".

[Bug 1357090] Re: Black screen on resume in Xubuntu 14.04.1

2015-01-20 Thread Nigel Harrison
I believe this is more than just an xubuntu issue or a laptop one in 14.04. I
run a desktop with stock ubuntu and unity, 12.04.4 fully upated via the
repositories with no foreign drivers for the graphics. ie nouveau as supplied
in the original install and updated only via normal updates if nouveau has ever
been updated in 12.04. The graphics card is Nvidia at least 3 years old and
certainly not one of the esoteric ones, probably close to the bottom of the
nvidia range. Suspend resume works perfectly.
On setting up 14.04 for testing on the same hardware with the exception that
14.04 is on an hd whereas 12.04 is on an ssd, it would not resume with the
keyboard and mouse hanging alternatively and never being able to get back to an
operating desktop. I went as far as doing a suspend from a real terminal using
pm-suspend. I could revert to the terminal but still not the desktop. My
rudimentary testing indicates its a nouveau driver issue. I tried the 12.04
kernel on the 14.04 but to no effect. I installed the nvidia binary and hey
presto suspend resume works. As Linus says nouveau driver taints the kernel!!
At the moment the relevant desktop is out of action but a I can resurrect it
should you require some log/error report dumps as specified by you.

I had this with 14.10 (Unity edition with Gnome 3.14 from

Fix from Comment #57 worked, except I used Dconf Editor to set the

[Bug 1320020] Re: [Inspiron 1470, Realtek ALC272, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-10-07 Thread Stanford Robert Harrison
I'm experiencing this bug on my Gateway M-6816 with Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit.
Happened after updates a few weeks ago.
I do not have Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 installed on this computer, just Ubuntu.
Headphones work fine (after the usual gateway fix for this model adding the
line to alsa-base.conf options snd-hda-intel model=eapd probe_mask=1
position_fix=1)
If we get a fix for this I'll be happy. Meanwhile I'm connecting a portable usb
speaker to get sound.

Same problem with i7 - intel 4770 processor desktop (internal 4770

1hr inactivity, computer is set to suspend. On starting up again by
pressing a key or moving mouse, the poewr button comes on constantly
(rather than flashing), the keyboard caplock/numlock keys work etc., the
monitors wake up but display nothing.

[Bug 1205397] Re: encrypted install fails because unsafe swap is detected

2014-05-28 Thread Harrison Fischberg
Hi everyone,

I ran into this problem as well, but my fix was:

Boot into Live session

Terminal, enter: sudo swapoff --all

Proceed with installation

Remember, it must be run as sudo(super user) to disable swapoff.

Hope this works!

[Bug 1286637] [NEW] Ubuntu hangs on install with black screen

2014-03-01 Thread David Harrison
Public bug reported:

I've tried with secure boot enabled and disabled and also tried with
legacy support enabled. All variations of those options were tried.
For Ubuntu, I've tried 13.10 on USB and CD and also 12.04 on CD, but
computer always hangs. I do get the option of running Ubuntu live or
installing. Doesn't seem to matter which option I choose. Another
screen comes up that ubuntu with dots that blink like its loading. I
then see some text appear but then it disappears quickly, not long
enough to read. The text looks like linux displays when booting up.
Soon as it disappears it goes to a black screen

Trying to load on a laptop peloaded windows 8. Its a HP Pavilion
TouchSmart 15 Model E8A65UA. Purchased December 2013.

[Bug 1158267] Re: broken (click-trhough) window decoration on some maximized windows

2013-06-15 Thread Harrison Smith
Something I've been wondering for awhile: How long does a fix like this
generally take before it's moved into the main repos (i.e. - I get an
'update' though the regular software channel?

I try to avoid custom built code, particularly when using said code
involves ripping out a pretty core component first... If this won't be
fixed for months, I'll probably bother with the compilation, but
otherwise I might just wait and be annoyed for a bit.

[Bug 1070150] Re: Intermittent black screen or low graphics mode message

2013-05-04 Thread Anders Harrison
This has just started happening today on my 13.04 64-bit install .
Yesterday updates to 3.8.0-19 were installed, don't know if that's just
a coincidence.

Have added sleep 2 as per comment #16, still got the issue.

This install is only about 1 week old, and was done from fresh (not an
upgrade).

sudo service lightdm restart gets me in at least, but it's a PITA.

Lenovo x121e, Intel Core i3-2367M with an Intel SSD.

[Bug 648379] Re: Artifacts when scaling down with Sinc Lanczos3

2012-09-03 Thread Mark Harrison
Given the symptoms:

1) Occurs during resizing using factors that are not powers of 2 (i.e., 2, 4,
8, etc.). Comment #2
2) The thatched pattern is the color (254, 254, 254), where pure white is (255,
255, 255). Attachment to Comment #1
3) Only occurs for pure white (255, 255, 255) starting image. Comment #3

I would strongly suspect that this is not a bug, but a rounding error
inherent in filter. It just happens that only images starting from pure
white end up with rounding errors large enough to change a pixel value
by one. The Lanczos filter actually takes on negative values at places,
so that might be enough to put a resampled pixel one value below where
it should be when the scaling isn't a nice power of 2.

In other words, this is a limitation of the filter, not a programming
bug.

[Bug 1033197] Re: can't get out of fullscreen mode

2012-08-06 Thread Richard Harrison
Ok it sounds like you are using unity. As you said it is a rite out of the box
install. Try to open the terminal press Ctrl - Alt - T
Then reset unity. Past this and hit enter unity --reset

2012-08-06 Thread Richard Harrison
If the simple reset dose not work try to run all 3 of these one at a
time in the terminal.

   unity --reset-icons

   gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compizconfig-1
unity --reset

rm -rf ~/.config/compiz-1/compizconfig/*

Please let me know if this worked for you.

[Bug 1033197] Re: can't get out of fullscreen mode

2012-08-06 Thread Richard Harrison
Ok i assumed it was unity because i could not replicate the issue. I have
replicated it.
To fix the issue open fbreader and press the o key alone. This will open the
config menu then go to the keys tab. In the action for keys area press any key
i used q. Then select toggle full screen mode. Then hit apply and the q key
will toggle full screen.
Please let me know if this works for you.

[Bug 1011747] [NEW] dpkg lock when calling on apt-get

2012-06-11 Thread Harrison Steven Sherman
Public bug reported:

when attempting to install wine1.5 on lubuntu my system froze on the
EULA agreement and I exited the terminal. Upon running apt-get
autoremove to attempt a reinstall I ran into the error:

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource
temporarily unavailable)E: Unable to lock the administration directory
(/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I first attempted to kill the apt-get process but permission was denied,
so I tried sudo killall apt-get but ran into the same problem. So I ran

rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock

follwed by

sudo dpkg --configure -a

which returned:

Thinking this error was the same as before I ran killall apt-get once
again, which had returned no response, so I entered sudo apt-get
autoremove to test for conflicting packages and returned:

I was then notified that there was a system problem and filed a bug
report, which took me to a report telling me to run

sudo fuser /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

which returned nothing

followed by:

and to then report the result.

Re: [Bug 1005686] Re: ubuntu os install crash

2012-05-28 Thread Harrison Steven Sherman
Thank you for the quick and helpful response, I will run diagnostics to
make sure my hardware is all in check. Since reporting the bug I have
discovered that I can use the disk to install ubuntu so long as I don't
check the check for updates while installing option and instead install
the updates later, but when installing the updates some did not want to
install. I have had no system bugs other than this since, but I did think
it was strange not all the updates would install.

On Mon, May 28, 2012 at 8:14 PM, Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
1005...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to
install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing
operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using
software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event
that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's
status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 923242] Re: Cannot restore rhythmbox from notification area in gnome-shell after closing window

2012-02-13 Thread Mark Harrison
I've reported this upstream
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670038), and a Rhythmbox
developer replied that this problem was a consequence of an Ubuntu-
specific patch.

In case I wasn't clear, the problem is with restoring Rhythmbox from
Gnome3's Message Tray in the lower-right corner.

[Bug 921610] Re: playback halts, refuses to play subsequent tracks

2012-01-28 Thread Mark Harrison
I had the same problem until I turned off crossfading (Edit -
Preferences, Playback tab, uncheck Crossfade between tracks).
Crossfading never worked with MP3s, so no big loss.

[Bug 923242] [NEW] Cannot restore rhythmbox from notification area in gnome-shell after closing window

2012-01-28 Thread Mark Harrison
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome-shell. When I close the rhythmbox
window, it is still accessible through the notification area (or
systray, whatever it's called) in the lower-right corner as expected. I
can still pause and skip to the next or previous track. However, I
can't restore the window, whether by right-clicking and selecting Open
or by left-clicking and clicking on the info box. I have to restart
rhythmbox from the Activities menu (it doesn't restart playback, just
shows the currently running instance). If I minimize instead of closing
the window, then restoration works through either of the notification
area methods.

[Bug 743198] Re: You have no chance to survive make your time error

2011-12-14 Thread Matt Harrison
I have made a quick patch that gets this to work for me.

Some of this is not very clean and by far not the best way to do it, but
it seems to work fine as far as using Pithos.

This is to be applied to pithos/pandora/pandora.py

2011-12-14 Thread Matt Harrison
If your on Ubuntu running this in the folder you downloaded
pandora.py.patch to should do it:

sudo patch /usr/share/pyshared/pithos/pandora/pandora.py
pandora.py.patch

Anything else, just replace the pandora.py or pandora.py.patch paths.

[Bug 743198] Re: You have no chance to survive make your time error

2011-12-14 Thread Matt Harrison
Just a FYI about the patch. I based my patch code on the misc.sync method taken
from here:
https://github.com/PromyLOPh/pianobar/blob/2da38556d614b9bc969f65b3683c2ce6eb99e6bc/src/libpiano/piano.c

The case 0: block starting at line 248.
and
The case 0: block starting at line 892.

I did the decoding different from pianobar, just using the default
pandora_decrypt from Pithos and using a regex to strip out anything but the
timestamp.
It worked in my case, and lets me listen.

Kevin Mehall: The timeoffset is set to self.time_offset. That should
keep it for all future xmlrpc calls unless the Pandora class is ever
created without doing a login call. Not sure if it does without
reviewing the entire codebase.

I also like the cleaner implementation in xmlrpc_call instead of just
not setting listenerId to not send the timestamp.
