[Bug 1541649] Re: Plymouth needs a safe method to unlock the device on boot without a physical keyboard.

2016-05-15 Thread Harrison Smith
This affects the practicality of Ubuntu as an operating system on my
Dell Venue 8 Pro. Encrypting just the home directory is not really a
satisfactory alternative, nor is carrying a USB keyboard at all times. I
found this:

https://github.com/zrafa/onscreenkeyboard

as a rudimentary example of what could be implemented as a quick hack. I
don't have the experience to modify it in a very helpful way, but in my
tests, if I set MOUSEFILE in osk_mouse.c to "/dev/input/mice", I am able
to _somewhat_ control it via the touchscreen – emphasis on "somewhat".

[Bug 1158267] Re: broken (click-trhough) window decoration on some maximized windows

2013-06-15 Thread Harrison Smith
Something I've been wondering for awhile: How long does a fix like this
generally take before it's moved into the main repos (i.e. - I get an
'update' though the regular software channel?

I try to avoid custom built code, particularly when using said code
involves ripping out a pretty core component first... If this won't be
fixed for months, I'll probably bother with the compilation, but
otherwise I might just wait and be annoyed for a bit.

[Bug 1075025] Re: Empathy shortcut bug Shift + F

2012-12-06 Thread Harrison Smith
For what it's worth, i find this bug to be more than a little
annoying... Has this been resolved in a newer build than is available in
the main distro repo?

Also, as a work around you can cut/paste a capital f, if you really need
to.

[Bug 876815] [NEW] Unity 11.10 Cannot create launcher for Matlab

2011-10-17 Thread Harrison Smith
Public bug reported:

When creating a non-terminal launcher for Matlab, the flag -Desktop must
be appended. Given there is no mechanism to create custom launchers in
Unity in 11.10, there is no way to create a launcher for Matlab.
Additionally, there are many possible applications where a launcher with
more than just the binary path would be useful/required, and for all of
these apps, Unity prevents such usage.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
